It's no exaggeration to say that WFMU is an international community that really cares for one another. <3

And, yay, Kevin Ayers!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Handy Haversack:

Oh no, it's happening ...

The window -- the window --!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm CHUCK ROAST:

Hi, Julie and everybody. Hooray! I started back to work today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Julie:

I need more Kevin Ayers in my life I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm Julie:

hiya Chuck Roast! wow, good for you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm doctorjazz:

Hi all! Made it! (Been Busy with my main furlough activity, ripping and sharing music).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Julie:

heya doctor jazz! what kinda stuff you sharing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Phillippe Bastille:

Hey Chuck -- great to hear!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm listener james from westwood:

Ooh, prob. my fave Pretenders!
  12:27pm Mr Nobody:

Finally got in new ear buds. Sounds much better now. Lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Julie:

woohoo mr nobody
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm doctorjazz:

You name it...old R&B (Mercury Boxes), "out" jazz (a ton of Henry Threadgill, John Zorn, some David S Ware, Beatles, keeping me out of trouble...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm doctorjazz:

Glad I got here, loving the set!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm CHUCK ROAST:

Was this one for me ?
  12:35pm Mr Nobody:

Busted lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Handy Haversack:

The best thing about this exercise hell was getting to hear Kate sing "Back on the Chain Gang!" Whoo! Girl can sing!

Also good: knowing that she now has an inescapable mental image of me doing squats with my boxers pulled all the way up to my chest and my T-shirt tucked into them. Can't unring that bell!

Julie, I would send you her album! But I don't think Bandcamp lets us send comps -- or we haven't figured it out yet. And there's no way we can go in the Greenpoint PO right now. That place is a death trap even without a virus.

The James song was uplifting, too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm Julie:

Handy you can send out bandcamp codes, I've got them from people before!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Handy Haversack:

We will investigate, Julie! I will "Contact" you through your profile here for your e-mail address and figure out how to get the codes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm doctorjazz:

Handy, you work at Bandcamp? Love that site! (my bank account, not so much...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Handy Haversack:

Ah, it goes to an e-mail page -- even easier! We will delve into Bandcamp.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm doctorjazz:

Anyway, I've sent stuff to some listeners and some
DJ's...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Handy Haversack:

Dear god no, doctorjazz! Kate's band's album is up there, and I was trying to figure out if we could send Julie a complimentary copy.

Though I did spend several dozen minutes resizing images for the Bandcamp page over and over and over again to meet its wildly shifting specs ... it sure *felt* like work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Andrew Waterloo:

@Handy. There are some web tools that will create sets of images at different sizes and resolutions for you. I used to use one for Android development
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm doctorjazz:

Oh, sorry, missed some of the conversation. If you have a digital copy of her album on your computer somewhere, it's very easy to send these days, I use WeTreansfer, very simple to use on sender and receiver end.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Handy Haversack:

Hell yeah!! This is my song!! (at karaoke!)

Blasting it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm WR:

Lunch break, stream music volume up so I can actually hear as I munch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Julie:

hiya WR!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Handy Haversack: a great karaoke hit for sure! I have a lot of friends in Greenpoint, sending lots of love there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Julie:

my record had a loud scratch right in that quiet bit during the guitar solo. it's so weird not to hear that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Handy Haversack:

Do you, @GST? We have been here 20 years, so there's always a chance we know them, even!

@doctorjazz and WHH: Thanks! Will --> way!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Yay, ❤️!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Julie:

hi Ken!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm listener james from westwood:

WSOU used to use the end of that instrumental for their station ID. Can't not hear it without saying WSOU SOUTH ORANGE—SETON HALL PIRATE RADIO
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Handy Haversack:

YEAH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Julie:

oh how horrible
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm listener james from westwood:

Also, MAC of WFMU kicked ASS at Hoof & Mouth on this track, IIRC
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Handy Haversack: do you know Alice Cohen, whose music is oft played on WFMU? She's been in Greenpoint for at least 20 years. <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Julie:

I feel like I saw Alice Cohen on a bill with Glockabelle somewhere.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm WR:

doctorjazz suggestion of WeTransfer is a good one. Some content creators have pro accounts and I had used it to download from them. Didn't try the free account until doctorjazz suggested it and found it easy and clean to use.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Phillippe Bastille:

Ugh, this is starting to look like an archive show for me. Internet is not the least bit cooperative the last hour
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Julie:

oh no, sorry Phillippe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Alice Cohen plays with a lot of different acts. In the 80s she was in The Vels
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

aw, darn, Phillippe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Julie:

i'm actually amazed at how well the internet is holding up since so many people are home now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Phillippe Bastille:

Fortunately I was able to find THIS! Never been prouder of my home state! news.yahoo.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Phillippe! HOLY WTF!!?!?!? LOL!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm Phillippe Bastille:

@GST Mask: check! Hand sanitizer: check! Pants: Ummm...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm doctorjazz:

That's funny-my daughter is interviewing for work when she finishes college (this semester), and she is generally in a business suit from the waist up, and PJ's from the waist down. Seems to be the thing. But that's funny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Handy Haversack:

@GST, I don't *think* so, but let me check with Kate (when she gets off the call she's on). She's a musician and knows more people through it locally.
  1:03pm Mr Nobody:

No one told me I had to be wearing pants to tune in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Julie:

Why should you wear pants? I'm not!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Little Danny:

Hey Julie, hey all! Man I love that Living Hour album
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I need to update my vernacular. I used to joke about the cashless society of the future. Henceforth, it's the pantsless society of the future.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Handy Haversack: yeah, most of my pals in Greenpoint are musicians, surprise surprise! What's Kate's musical moniker?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Julie:

hey there Little Danny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Phillippe Bastille:

I'm usually either in shorts or snow pants. Nothing in between.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Julie:

her name is Kate she's in a band, I have to hear her of course
  1:04pm Mr Nobody:

That's what I'm saying.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm WR:

I do not do video work meetings. I tell them it isn't working. Talk to them is as far as I am willing to go.
  1:05pm spodiodi:

Hi Julie and darkppl -- been enjoying the show. like this Petula Clark
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm Julie:

hi spodiodi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm listener james from westwood:

Oh, great Linda here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm doctorjazz:

Amen to what Listener James said!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm Julie:

thanks Spodi! I feel like Linda was disrespected for a long time and now people love her again
Avatar 1:08pm PsychopathJimFields:

Love Long Long Time!!!!
Hi Julie :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm Julie:

heya Jim!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm Handy Haversack:

@GST: Current band is Creek and Kills. Previous incarnations of her main project include the Reverse Engineers and Recess.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Phillippe Bastille:

I kinda prefer the video meetings to the phone-only. I find my mind wanders more when I'm just on the phone. Nothing like the terror of hearing "so what do you think, Phillippe?" when, in fact, I'm thinking about key lime pie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Julie:

mmmm pie
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm doctorjazz:

There was a time that "interpretive" artists, that is, those that didn't write their own material (Joe Cocker comes to mind) were not considered as "important" as those that wrote and performed it (this was a small blip of time-historically, most musicians interpreted music by others or that was popular).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm Handy Haversack:

What Julie said ...
  1:11pm Mr Nobody:

Birbs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm Phillippe Bastille:

Try NOT to think about key lime pie...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Handy: Kate's collage art is indeed amazing. Alice Cohen does collage art stop-frame animation. I think they may know each other.
  1:12pm Mr Nobody:

Thanks Phillip. Now I want key lime pie.
  1:12pm spodiodi:

love your birds on mic, Julie. please send my best
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Little Danny:

Dammit you're right, PB. Derailed again by key lime pie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

…mmm, key lime pie…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Phillippe Bastille:

Yeah, unfortunately I now do too...
Avatar 1:13pm Hubig Pie:

Did someone mention pie ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Handy Haversack:

@PB: It's not working. I accidentally put myself in a graham cracker crust.

@GST: Oh, wow, she will be so psyched that you said that. Collaging the gig posters is one of her favorite things!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm WR:

Key lime pie? Key lime!!!
  1:14pm spodiodi:

pie period is enough to set this train free. and pecan is the best pie. good call, Julie
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm listener james from westwood:

Key lime! Klaus Nomi's ears just twitched in the aether.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm Little Danny:

I'm tart or I'm nothing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Pies in the key of lime!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm doctorjazz:

I'll have anyone's pecan pie, any time!!! (my daughter makes a good one)
  1:15pm spodiodi:

ken lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm doctorjazz:

Warm, some vanilla ice cream, now you got me going.
  1:16pm spodiodi:

key lime pie... you can get some on sugarloaf key
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm WR:

Pecan pie is usually so sweet, but small slice with vanilla ice cream. Pecan pie. Yum to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

i'm being very careful. my hands have never been so washed.
  1:17pm Mr Nobody:

Now I need a Florida trip to pick up a Key Lime pie from Blond Giraffe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Handy Haversack:

Pecan pie also good hotted up with some sharp cheddar on top.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Little Danny:

Ice cream belongs nowhere near a pie you amateurs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Phillippe Bastille:

Don't waste those graham crackers, Handy. We are about 5 crackers shy of a full crust here. We have everything else we need for that pie...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

never tried pecan with cheddar. oh, before the end of the day i hope to have some pie in my piehole.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm listener james from westwood:

Eliza!
  1:18pm spodiodi:

i like your conviction, LIttle Danny
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm Little Danny:

Pie confidence!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm Phillippe Bastille:

(sigh) some days I feel so at home
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm CHUCK ROAST:

Somewhere Patsy is smiling.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Handy Haversack:

The only thing we ever bake is this wildly decadent pie recipe from Kate's mother's Texan roots. Only at Tgiving. A chocolate pecan pie. The sort of thing where sugar just isn't sweet enough so Karo has to be employed *in addition*.
Avatar 1:20pm Hubig Pie:

Travis Bickle liked cheese on his pie
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm doctorjazz:

LD, I admire your confidence and conviction as well (and I'll have your ice cream).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm Little Danny:

Oh wow, I've heard of chocolate pecan pie, never spotted it in the wilds, tho.
  1:21pm Mr Nobody:

Sugarloaf? Oh man I have had some good times down in the Keys. Some days I really miss living in Florida.
  1:22pm spodiodi:

i used to have Karo on pancakes sometimes (influenced by my grandmother's sweet tooth)
some Karo on top, DoctoreJazz?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm Handy Haversack:

Correlation does not imply causation, @Hubig!

(I hope ...)

@Little Danny: It is, quite literally, Too Much.

Sometimes she makes bourbon whipped cream for it, too!!
  1:22pm spodiodi:

i think i've camped on sugarloaf key. also had some great times in the keys. cheers, Mr Nobody
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm Julie:

choc pecan pie now THAT sounds good
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm Little Danny:

@Handy: whereabout in Texas? Sounds like a central Texas thing, though pecans are grown all over the state.
Avatar 1:23pm Hubig Pie:

Sweet potato pecan pie is this family's Thanksgiving treat . Sugar and karo both in large amounts. And.... bourbon in the whipped cream
  1:24pm Mr Nobody:

Did you say Karo on pancakes? Wow that really takes me back. Was something that I remember from breakfasts with my grandparents too. Very nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

i've already clicky starred this Emily Bezar, so what can i do?
Chocolate pecan pie with a big scoop of ice cream, i'm not ashamed to be an amateur! mmmmm
  1:24pm spodiodi:

same grandmother (from OK) led me to pecan pie as well (also her fave, i think... with ice cream)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Phillippe Bastille:

I wonder how crushed up frosted mini-wheats would work as a pie crust? Cuz that's all we got
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

except, frankly, if pie and ice cream had half the sugar, it would still be plenty sweet for me.
  1:25pm spodiodi:

cheers again Mr Nobody *klinks Karo bottle*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Phillippe Bastille: sounds like a winner! I remember in college a visiting friend made a crust out of cornflakes and it was delicious.
  1:26pm Mr Nobody:

*Cheers*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Handy Haversack:

@Little Danny: Wow, ding ding ding! (Not trying to summon Mary Wing, but you know, if it happens, I'm cool with it!)

Belton. Nearish to Odessa.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Phillippe Bastille:

We used to have King syrup on pancakes, the one with the lion on the bottle. I bought a bottle a while back for nostalgia sake. Ugh. No taste
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm Phillippe Bastille:

@GST we used ritz crackers in the past, not half bad
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm doctorjazz:

I've had chocolate pecan pie, and it's good, but here I'm going to be a traditionalist and go for the regular kind, if I have to chose (but not turning away the chocolate if it's available any time).
Never tried Karo on pie, pancakes, or any other food, at least not directly (I'm sure it was in many syrups I poured on things)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

now i need some breakfast. i have pancakes and sharp cheddar—close enough?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Little Danny:

@Handy: Nice, yeah, I'm out west Texas too. Odessa puts the "rough" in "roughneck" yessir.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Charlie:

Hi Julie -- Checking in on my lunch break to say hi and listen, but I gotta get back to work. Stay well:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm spodiodi:

Karo's website has many pecan pie recipes: www.karosyrup.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Phillippe Bastille: what CAN'T you do with a Ritz?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Handy Haversack:

I like savory pancakes! Chili oil in the pan. Cheese, jalapenos, whatever's on hand.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Julie:

hey Charlie! Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

I do have a bunch of potatoes that could become latkes…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm Phillippe Bastille:

@GST: youtu.be...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Julie, this set is dazzling! Was that pie reference on purpose?!?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Julie:

Glad you are enjoying it GST!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Phillippe Bastille: trippy Andy, swinging at the PARTY!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Julie:

was there pie?? afraid I'm putting out a fire here so haven't been listening close to the lyrics
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm doctorjazz:

Ahhh, latkes. We had family issues on what to put on them as well. Some go for sweet (apple sauce), others for salt. I go both ways.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Julie:

the michelle young song seems like it might've had pie
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm spodiodi:

sweet vs savory breakfast treat thoughts lead me to crepes. been too long. used to live very close to a great place. i almost always go for a savory crepe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm Julie:

pancakes have become my post-show routine now. with blueberries.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm Phillippe Bastille:

If it didn't it should
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm Stanley:

@Phillippe: browsing the chat here and I see the bit about the police objecting to people going to check the mailbox without pants/trousers on. Is this for real or a spoof?

And hi Julie. Are we live?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm Julie:

oh yes we are live
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Stanley alas, it is for real...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Brian in UK:

Hello Julie

Stanley, well here at the modicum of modesty I would take exception.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm spodiodi:

real, but it sounds like all in good fun, Stanley. i'd like to see the ordinance/law.
personally, i never wear anything but a thong... ever,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Phillippe Bastille:

Our traditional holiday breakfast is a sunnyside up egg or two, a couple slices of bacon, hash browns, rye toast, and home-made kielbasa topped with a beet/horseradish spread
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm Phillippe Bastille:

OMG, its OMD! (always wanted to type that)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm spodiodi:

that sounds better than awful, Phillippe Bastille
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm Julie:

hi Brian!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm Stanley:

I hope so spodio.
But, Brian Americans wear 'shorts' not what we are accustomed to wearing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm Julie:

grateful for autofill I never remember how to spell Manoeuvres
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Phillippe Bastille:

@spodiodi My mom makes her own sausage. Every time I ask her to teach me how to do it she rattles off the recipe, like I'm going to remember, and then the next time she makes it she doesn't call me to actually show me...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm spodiodi:

Americans and short pants ftw
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm Julie:

no one wants to see how the sausage is made
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm spodiodi:

Phillippe, i like your Mom's sausage recipe secrecy :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm spodiodi:

when will we learn, Julie? so true
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm spodiodi:

i'm like your mom -- sometimes i find it difficult to give away secret info
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm doctorjazz:

WE had a recipe for kishka, stuffed derma, a European-Jewish side dish that I love (and my cardiologist does too, as it increases his business). But haven't gotten around to making it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm doctorjazz:

Shmaltz (chicken fat) is a big ingredient in the recipe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm CHUCK ROAST:

Tonight's menu. ...tuna salad and chili cheese fries. Yum !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm spodiodi:

that all sounds exotic and exciting and delicious, doctorjazz
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm spodiodi:

liked that Knks tune
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Phillippe Bastille:

@spodiodi my issue with my mom is that she's 90 and I'd like that recipe to live on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Phillippe Bastille:

@doctorjazz oh, man I love kishka, even after I found what it was made of.
Avatar 1:53pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

Hi Julie, and all
enjoying your show as I'm working on a website (and going a bit crazy, ;))
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm spodiodi:

Phillippe, hope you can negotiate successfully
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm spodiodi:

those fries sounds good, CHUCK ROAST
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Julie:

hey Hi Sylvia!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Little Danny:

Man I never tire of those echo-y guitar tones on the first two JA albums
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Handy Haversack:

We're having either veggie and seitan stirfry in Handy sauce or Kate's Mexican eggs.

@doctorjazz: a very sad sight indelibly implanted on my mind's eye: a friend's bachelor party ended up at Sammy's Rumanian Steakhouse for dinner. I joined *after I got out of the ER that I had to go to straight from the racetrack.*

By then, many people were feeling the bottles of vodka frozen into Kool Whip containers that Sammy's lines the tables with.

My one friend thought he finally saw some orange juice to cut the vodka with and so picked up the pitcher on the table -- and the rebounding action of a dollop of schmaltz poured into a glass of ice-cold vodka is simultaneously ethereal and definitely physical. Embodied. And slow.

Plenty of time for the realization to sink in before it hits the surface.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm Phillippe Bastille:

@spodiodi I think when she's able to venture out of the house again I'm going to kidnap her and install her in the kitchen until she teaches me.
  1:56pm Mr Nobody:

Nice. Love some JA.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm CHUCK ROAST:

Maria D's of Glen Burnie, MD. They are the best.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm spodiodi:

you gotta do what you gotta do, Phillippe :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm spodiodi:

the only thing i really know in Glen Burnie is the DMV. to Maria D's
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Handy Haversack:

Nice show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Julie:

thank you Handy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm Handy Haversack:

(I.e., Violent Femmes and Del Fuegos -- but Julie's is even better!!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm spodiodi:

second sister tune today that made me smile
  2:01pm Mr Nobody:

Get those recipes while you can Phillippe. Thankfully I was able to get most of the ones my grandfather made before he passed away. So many memories.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm spodiodi:

i don't think i'd heard that The Kinks one before either
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm Julie:

it's a nice hidden kinks gem, but I do play it every so often. sisters, harpsichord..gotta love it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm listener james from westwood:

Was in the kitchen for Juliana but was <3 for that one.
Avatar 2:04pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

Since I had an afternoon nap in place of a night's sleep I wish you all a good morning at 9pm EEST. The last two hours were very good music for waking up, slllooowwwlllly (as I usually do).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm spodiodi:

i'm a sucker for harpsichord
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm spodiodi:

good morning, chacha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm Julie:

hi there Cha Cha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm Handy Haversack:

Morning, Cha Cha! Nice way to wake up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm Andrew Waterloo:

Whenever I hear a record pop I look at my record player, then I wonder why I am looking at the record player just sitting there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm Andrew Waterloo:

Just received some records from the mail man.
Avatar 2:08pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@2:05 Handy Haversack: yep, it is, and perhaps due to the self isolation today is not exactly the first time I set the alarm clock so I'll be at least semi_awake when this show starts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm Julie:

yay records!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm Handy Haversack:

Getting the mail has become an ordeal! There's a lot of wiping down, washing hands, and setting aside for 24+ hours now. Difficult when new gaming books and CDs are arriving.

Perfectly content to let the bills sit there for a while ...
Avatar 2:11pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@2:03 Julie: something else has no filler unlike many 60s albums. I have the impression Kinks' 70s stuff might suffer from this which is why I am not so familiar with it - but your 2012(?) show did have very good songs from that era.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Handy Haversack:

(Tasseomancy is what I thought it was. Always good to check I'm still up on my -mancies.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Mr. Nobody I'm workin' it. Everything is in her head, not in a stack of recipes unfortunately.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm Julie:

yeah 70s era Kinks can be a bit more hit and miss
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm Phillippe Bastille:

Wish I had my old Kinks 8 tracks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm Andrew Waterloo:

Yup... gotta shelve those new Coil and Annie Anxiety records till tomorrow.
Avatar 2:15pm Soul Captain:

Rick Wright did some beautiful work on this album
Avatar 2:16pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@2:09 Handy Haversack: I am completely paranoid even about the home delivered groceries!

Thankfully the local church is doing all necessary shopping (groceries, meds etc.) for people at risk (like me) without delivery fees, without asking if you're a member/religious, no complaints there.
  2:16pm Mr Nobody:

Ahhh I have been waiting for some PF. Very nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm Julie:

wow Cha Cha that is nice.
Avatar 2:17pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

Just like Genesis' The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway this (DSOTM, a-side especially) scared me shitless when listening on headphones at the local library.
Avatar 2:18pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

I know I was a wuss, but hey I was only 10 years old (8 when I heard Genesis)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm Julie:

if I listen to DSOTM at bedtime the clock going off scares the shit out of me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm Michael 98145:

today is tomorrow's yesterday
  2:19pm Funky16Corners:

Hi Julie!
Avatar 2:19pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

On The Run still gives me the creeps!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm Julie:

hi michael hi larry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm Handy Haversack:

@Granny, if you're still here -- we don't think we know Alice Cohen, but she sure seems worth knowing! Will investigate further.

I was right: Kate was *super* excited that you liked her collages!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Handy wait! there are Kate collages to view?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm fred:

Damn work, I missed Juliana Hatfield. Clicky-starring that song anyway, I probably have heard it a few thousand times anyway
  2:28pm Funky16Corners:

I can oblige!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm spodiodi:

Julie, love hearing about how the music relates to, and was influenced by, your sisters. thanks for sharing your stories
  2:29pm Funky16Corners:

Testify! Coming up at 3PM - wfmu.org/playlists/shows/92657
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm listener james from westwood:

The local Wegmans I've visited during the current crisis has been playing the super hits of the 70s—lending the frenzy a surreal air—but not yet this ONJ nugget.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm Julie:

so glad, spodiodi, I thought that stuff was only interesting to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm fred:

@handy: does that get you of exercise for a day?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm spodiodi:

this reminds me that i haven't seen Xanadu in a while.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm Julie:

we can blame my sister Diane for my Olivia obsession too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm Rich in Washington:

Wonderful show today, Julie! Listening from the kitchen while frantically cooking up some grub!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm Julie:

thank you Rich!
  2:32pm Funky16Corners:

LOVE the Association!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm fred:

@Julie: so did you like or hate the JH ONJ cover record?
Avatar 2:32pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@2:27 fred: I gave it a star too - I just realized I really should familiarize myself with her music. I know I am probably the only person here who has heard very little Juliana Hatfield in their lives.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm Julie:

@fred Oh I loved it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm Stanley:

A very melodic show today, Julie, if I may say so.
Avatar 2:37pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@2:30 Julie: no Julie, actually the personal stuff is interesting to people like me who know you only from this show. This - especially during this time of very little social contact - gives a warm atmosphere to the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm Julie:

good to know, Cha Cha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm spodiodi:

not at all, Julie -- i have many aunts (who helped raise me... one of whom we've just lost) -- the sister tracks, and stories are perfect today. i'm glad the rest have each other right now. (and i'm also grateful for my own sister.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm spodiodi:

"a warm atmosphere" describes Dark Night of The Soul with Julie well, Cha Cha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm Julie:

glad you're enjoying it Stanley!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

So sorry for your loss, dear Julie. Thank you for your wonderful show. Sending love...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm Julie:

thank you Summer, Michael & Sylvia
Avatar 2:41pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@2:38 spodiodi: that's why it is so comfortable here (as well as the DJ playing music i like and introducing me to music I did not know before).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm Ken From Hyde Park:

My high school won the state Class B wrestling tournament when this Queen song was out. Nice memories.
  2:41pm Funky16Corners:

This is right out of my middle school years!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm spodiodi:

fully agree w u, chacha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm spodiodi:

i was learning to crawl (but i still am)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm Julie:

I think I may have played this really recently I remember telling the story of "borrowing" my sister's EJ Greatest Hits and immediately playing this song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm spodiodi:

did you wrestle, KenFHP?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm Julie:

man that piano work
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm listener james from westwood:

Right?! The sheet music for that must be wild.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm Julie:

don't tell Station Man Ken I've slipped into 70s radio mode
  2:47pm Funky16Corners:

We were watching Rocket Man last week and I had to explain to my sons (who are 13 and 16) what a huge star EJ was when I was a kid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm spodiodi:

our lips are sealed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm Handy Haversack:

@fred (2:31): Ha, no -- the timing was wrong. *Suspiciously* so!

@Phillippe, there are indeed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm Julie:

we had to do the same about Ronstadt to my 30 year old niece
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I couldn't wrestle my way out of a wet paper bag. I was in the band, so we played during home matches. My dad's cousin was the wrestling coach.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm Julie:

band guys > sports guys IMHO
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm spodiodi:

to be fair, wet paper bags sometimes have an unfair advantage. really depends on the bag.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Handy I believe a link is in order
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Rich in Washington:

Uh oh. Has The Ken issued an edict against 70s music? I'm mulling over doing an all 70s show at some point.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Handy Haversack:

Don't want to spam the board -- so am e-mailing you, PB!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Phillippe Bastille:
