Peeking in early to wave hello! Hope all of y'all are safe and sound!
Avatar 11:58am
Tony Coulter:

Hiya, James!

Tony Coulter:

So, can anyone ID today's mystery LP-under-the-cassettes? A fabulous prize could be yours.
Avatar 12:01pm
Tony Coulter:

And, also, can anyone ID the mystery organism pictured on the cover?
  12:03pm
Kay:

I was thinking blue crab. It momentarily reminded me of amorphous androgynous - tales of ephidrina, or prodigy - the fat of the land.
Avatar 12:05pm
Tony Coulter:

Heya, Kay! Nope, it's not either of those. It's from the '70s.
  12:06pm
Dean:

The Turtles Greatest Hits
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:07pm
Yvang:

Hi! I hope this is not a close up on a Pangolin. These pangolins, they're given too much attention.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:07pm
listener james from westwood:

'81! Horrifying year in its own right but I'd take it over this one in a trice.
Avatar 12:09pm
Tony Coulter:

Hiya, Dean and Yvang! Nope, it's not a turtle or a pangolin. I think it's something microscopic, though, honestly, I don't know what it is.

As for the record, here's another clue: It's UK prog, on the same label as early Genesis.
  12:15pm
Dean:

Hmmmm...London? At least my US pressing of From Genesis to Revelation is on London...
  12:17pm
B.S.:

This group had something to do with that great "California Dreaming" cover?!
Avatar 12:18pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Dean: Not that early! Beginning with the 2nd album....
Avatar 12:20pm
Tony Coulter:

Greetings, B.S.! If they did a cover of "California, Dreamin'"," I don't know it -- so, maybe not who you're thinking of.
Avatar 12:21pm
Tony Coulter:

If this track sounds familiar ... I played it on my show last week....
  12:22pm
Dean:

My Trespass is on ABC, but something tells me they were working with Charisma at that time in UK.
Avatar 12:24pm
Tony Coulter:

Yep, Charisma, it is.

I will reveal the identity of the mystery record in a few minutes. This is your last chance to win today's fabulous prize.
Avatar 12:27pm
Tony Coulter:

OK, today's mystery LP is: String Driven Thing: "The Machine That Cried" www.discogs.com...
  12:29pm
Kay 2:

Never heard of this band but really liking it. Easing the pain of figuring out the Philly school taxes I owe by tomorrow (they didn’’t extend the date.) Thanks Tony!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm
Jeff Golick:

Nice, @TC. Cover by the great Hipgnosis crew.
  12:29pm
Dean:

Dang. Just ID'd it in discogs! What prize did I fail to win?
Avatar 12:31pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey, hey, Jeff G! And Kay 2 too (assuming you're not the Kay above, replicating yourself)
  12:32pm
Kay 2:

Correct. It’s rare to see another Kay out there. Hi other Kay!

  12:44pm
Kay (1):

I'm guessing the mystery album mystery creature is some kind of body louse.
  12:46pm
Dean:

Yes, that's how you pronounce it. I lived not far from Cerritos pre-'01. There's a large Indian community nearby. One day I had lunch at a vegetarian Indian restaurant there. I was struck by the music playing over the PA, and I mentioned to the floor manager that it sounded like work Kavi Alexander was producing for his Water Lily Acoustics label. The manager replied, "Kavi was here yesterday. He gave me a copy of the new release."

Another Cerritos story: I'd been looking for years for a 2CD live recording from Kosmos in Amsterdam by Nikhil Banerjee. Scoured Southern California record stores, but couldn't find it. One day I dropped into a small shop near Cerritos and asked about the record. The clerk walked over to a bin and found the record.

Squeeze that listening, but don't squeeze the Charmin.
  12:51pm
Dean:

Looks like there's a Ginger Leigh band out of Austin, Texas. That Ginger is female.
Avatar 12:51pm

Wouldn't dare squeeze the Charmin. Heck, I worked hard to hoard that stuff... :)

Hi there! Sad I missed the first tape. Three more at least.
Avatar 12:54pm

@ Dean: Yeah, I noticed that other Ginger Leigh. At least we can be reasonably certain there's only one band called Aural Indifference.
Avatar 12:54pm
Tony Coulter:

Ahoy, Bob!

WR:

Crappers. Stipid work. Made me forget to connect and consequently missed all of aural indifference. Oh well, nouse crying over missed bits.
  12:55pm
Dean:

Actually, it'd be kinda cool if every band had an Austin, TX, counterpart. The Beatles, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Guru Guru... Whenever you mention a band, you have to specify, Austin or the other one?
Avatar 12:57pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey, hey, WR!
Avatar 1:01pm

There is very little online mention of this male, non-Texan Ginger Leigh, but he is briefly discussed here: livingarchive.doncampau.com...

Believe it or not, this song ("No Sugar") is a Guess Who cover.
