I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Avatar 12:03pm Mayuko:

Good afternoon, my radio family fred! Good morning chresti! Hallos Jake! Hi Dropof!! Glad you currently don't have any colleague preventing you from listening to this show!!! (or so I imagine)

Good morning rw! Somewhere on Earth it might be summer!

Thanks for tuning in, sinister dexter, tmoyo, and my radio family Sem!!

In my mind it’s summer. It is sunny, tho.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm ParUbi:

Hey everyone, hi Mayuko
  12:04pm P-90:

Good Afternoon DJ Mayuko! And VertiPlayers...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Greetings, Mayuko and WFMU pals. Sounds like a lovely morning…
  12:06pm Dropof Goldensun:

Things have been crazy lately with my job. I missed the last two shows. :( (will catch up in the archives) Today is the first time listening from home. So nice being relaxed with headphones!
  12:06pm P-90:

Did I hear a Pileated Woodpecker back there?
  12:07pm JosephB:

Good morning/afternoon Mayuko and all!
Avatar 12:07pm Mayuko:

Happy to have you here, ParUbi, P-90, Granny Spicy Tuna!!
Avatar 12:08pm Mayuko:

@Dropof oh no, hope the craziness is settling. I'm glad you can relax and listen from home!!
Avatar 12:08pm Mayuko:

@P-90 I thought it must have been an woodpecker, too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm ParUbi:

I used the electric weed-wacker this morning, and now my arms are all trembling. I have the muscle tone of a portabella mushroom
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm sinister dexter:

would love to know everyones favorite bird
Avatar 12:09pm Mayuko:

Good morning, Joe B!!!
Avatar 12:09pm Mayuko:

Think red-bellied woodpecker is my favorite bird.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm ParUbi:

@sinister d-- I'm partial to my brand new parakeets!
  12:11pm Dropof Goldensun:

Everyone’s hours were cut quite a bit. I’m no longer working Saturdays. Fridays are the new Saturdays where I work alone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm coelacanth∅:

greetings Mayuko and all
  12:12pm Ivan:

Hi Mayuko! Hope everyone is doing OK
Avatar 12:12pm fred:

@sinister dexter: I love crows. I'd probably love ravens too, but I've never seen one
  12:13pm JakeGould:

@Dropof: Hope that the hours you have work out.

In NYC they just announced the school year (meaning up until June) is cancelled with all classes going online.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

I like to hear the mourning doves cooing in my eaves, and the ruby-throated hummingbirds sometimes think i might be a snack (pink hair) and i always swap jokes with the ravens and crows…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm tmoyo:

I think kingfishers are cool
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm doctorjazz:

Hi folks!
  12:16pm JakeGould:

My favorite bird is this one completely white pigeon — but has specs of gray from a pigeon/dove parentage — that has a few feathers on it’s feet and hangs out in Union Square Park. I have even seen it during why excursions to Manhattan during this shut down. Still looks amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Great blue herons are mesmerizing to watch while they hunt, ducks of any kind usually make me laugh, seagull cries pierce my heart in a sweet melancholy way. How am i to pick a favorite?
Avatar 12:16pm Franco Twinkie:

Hey Mayuko! Up and at um on another day.
  12:16pm Dropof Goldensun:

JakeGould, it is what is. At least I still technically have a job. I have friends who have furloughed or just laid off. I filed for unemployment b cause of the lost hours. We’ll see how it plays out.
  12:18pm JosephB:

I think the cassowary is my favorite bird. Remember the cassowary show?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm coelacanth∅:

wood thrush, for the song
Avatar 12:18pm Mayuko:

Thanks for being here, coel, Ivan, and doctorjazz!!
  12:19pm Dropof Goldensun:

This is wonderful listening while laying down with my headphones! Silver lining!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm chresti:

Ha ParUbi. Mushroom tone.
Avatar 12:19pm Franco Twinkie:

RW, are you able to go for a spin on your bike? It looks real nice outside this morning.
  12:19pm rw:

I'm with Granny. Favorites are always tough for me.

Dropof, was filing for unemployment difficult? I've been considering it but I have REAL difficulty with forms / bureaucracy of any kind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Mayuko and gathering. I like the yellow-headed blackbird in general and the Central Park Duck in particular. I wonder where he (she?) went?
Avatar 12:21pm Mayuko:

@Jake ha that's not great, since some big portion of my job involves schools. then again I'm kind of got used to income instability since I moved to the US!
  12:21pm JosephB:

@rw I did it. It was fairly straightforward for me, but I was an employee for the past few years, not an independent contractor. If you have good tax records on hand it's not that bad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm ParUbi:

Hey Granny ST, thanks again for the postcard! It's super neat!
  12:22pm JosephB:

@rw and I hate forms too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm doctorjazz:

Hey, Coel, sending music out to a few people, having trouble keeping what goes to who straight. Did you want all the versions of Love's Forever Changes (mono, outtakes). And did I send the Trane Atlantic stuff? This living at home is driving me crazy (to paraphrase Robbie Robertson).
  12:23pm rw:

Franco, I also REALLY want to take the bike out! I switched out the chainring yesterday (in my living room) to make it easier to pedal because I'm old. Looking forward to testing it out. But I also want to listen to Play Vertigo. Oh! And I did find that copy of R. Wyatt's biography. Looking forward to riding up to SGV at some point (maybe once this pandemic subsides) to say hello and loan you the book!
Avatar 12:24pm Mayuko:

@GSTuna I love that hummingbirds think your pink hair look delicious! I think that as a compliment!!
  12:24pm Dropof Goldensun:

rw are you in NJ? It was very easily done online. Wherever you are you should do it if you qualify because the federal government is also contributing an additional $600 a week I’ve been told. But you have to be on your state unemployment to get it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm coelacanth∅:

hummingbird, for the bizarreness
Avatar 12:24pm Mayuko:

Hey Franco! What is your food/art project today? How did the easter donut project go?
  12:25pm JosephB:

@rw Biking sounds like the perfect activity right now. Also ditto what Dropof said
  12:25pm rw:

Joe, have you been working? I was thinking if I applied for assistance I could pass it along or split it with my assistant. I'm just afraid I will go through the hassle and not qualify.

Dropof, I'm in CA. Thanks. Maybe I'll look into it later today...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm chresti:

rw, its not too bad to sign up online, less bothersome than doing taxes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm coelacanth∅:

dr.j i'd definitely Love Love! any Love you got!
i have the record but i'm always interested to hear alternate versions and such. Thank you!
...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm doctorjazz:

Plan on getting out and biking with the family around 3pm today.
  12:27pm rw:

Mayuko, the music is sounding good this morning.
Avatar 12:30pm Franco Twinkie:

It looks real good Mayuko. It's the way it has to be right now - me talking to a stuffed rabbit while eating a donut.
  12:30pm rw:

Doc, that sounds nice. This pandemic seems to be good for families and dogs. From what I've seen out on the sidewalks and streets anyway.
Avatar 12:31pm Mayuko:

@Franco when are we having an online screening party of your videos?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm coelacanth∅:

about Trane, i'm not home so i cannot check but as i remember the only atlantic albums i have are live at the village vanguard and vol.2 of same.
i'm probably forgetting something but i'm drawing a blank.
Thanks again!
Avatar 12:32pm Mayuko:

@rw morning-appropriate music today!!!
  12:32pm rw:

Also, docjazz, thanks for posting the John Prine link the other day. Great one. Much appreciated.
Avatar 12:32pm Mayuko:

Welcome on board, Ken from HP!
Avatar 12:32pm fred:

@rw: Dogs sure seem to have a great time these days. Walking a dog is one of the allowed reason to be out here (and at any hour), so they get a lot more walks than usual
  12:33pm rw:

Live at the Village Vanguard is the best record ever. Maybe I DO have a favorite something!
  12:33pm JakeGould:

@rw: Are you and your assistant on the books or off the books? Because there is a small business loan program launched in the middle of this that will allow you to get up to a $75,000 loan. But it’s not exactly a loan: If you can prove at least 25% loss in revenue and 75% of the loan goes towards employee salaries, you can default on the loan and never pay it back. This applies for even single proprietorship businesses like being self employed.

The way I understand they did this was instead of just given businesses $75,000, by doing it as pseudo “loan” it is FDIC insured. Meaning if a bank gives you a loan, and you default, the bank still gets money from the federal government due to FDIC. It basically makes banks the bureaucracy but it’s known that if you default it won’t affect your credit rating and nobody cares.
Avatar 12:33pm Mayuko:

@fred a lot of animals seem to be having a great time. I saw the news of goats all over a city I think in Ireland, and cows relaxing on a beach somewhere.
  12:34pm JakeGould:

But you have to be an LLC or single proprietorship. You can’t be someone who pays quarterly taxes and then get this.
  12:35pm JosephB:

@rw I'm not working. As far as your assistant, he should just apply himself. With state and federal combined, you get about $1000 a week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm doctorjazz:

Thanks, rw, a friend sent the Prine article to me, found out really sweet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm sinister dexter:

gots this crazy fascination for pied billed grebes
Avatar 12:36pm Franco Twinkie:

Mayuko, right now everything is just a pile of files. I'm good at the mechanical set ups, but hopeless at digital editing. I was barley able to get in the door at the editing facility for another project before the clampdown.
  12:37pm rw:

Thanks Jake, but I don't think I would qualify. My assistant is also an independent contractor so I have no employees. It's a pretty small operation. That's interesting though about defaulting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm chresti:

@fred, that's how my son and partner are able to venture out in SF, with their dog.
  12:40pm rw:

Joe, sorry about the lack of work right now. Hopefully you'll be able to pull through. And I think EG has applied (or attempted at least).
Avatar 12:41pm Mayuko:

Aw! I never seen pied billed grebes, they're so cute!!! Reminds me of coot, like the placement of their legs seem similar.
  12:41pm JosephB:

@rw Thanks. I can pull through this, I'm just wondering what things like might look like on the other side. You probably already know, but I should mention that independent contractors DO currently qualify for unemployment because of the crisis. It just might take a while to actual see the money come through because things are such a mess right now.
  12:42pm JakeGould:

@rw: Well, it’s actually just a small scale version of how the government funds larger things with grants and such if you think about it. I looked it up and it’s called the SBA’s “Paycheck Protection Program”: fortune.com...

Sounds like it’s not a 123 process and bureaucratic, but hey… We all have time nowadays if qualified.
Avatar 12:42pm Mayuko:

("Position", rather than placement??)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm sinister dexter:

i like watching them hunt fish , they can dive long time , and control their bouyancy they can sink like a submarine
Avatar 12:44pm Mayuko:

@Franco we have TIME!!
12:45pm Dave In St Albans UK:

I have a soft spot for our local Great Crested Grebe. The mating ritual is wonderful. We have many in our local lakes nearby. PS great show. Thanks.
Avatar 12:46pm fred:

Mayuko, with all that time, I hope you still have some tea to put in your bourbon
Avatar 12:48pm Franco Twinkie:

Mayuko, Here is shot from last summer in San Francisco.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm WR:

Hi all. Dropping in to hear what condition my condition is in. Soon going out for a walk and search for edamame and shumai and soba which the local grocer doesn't stock and our usual sources have chosen to close.

Ahhh... the Bourbon-Spiked Tea, one of my favorite bird species

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm doctorjazz:

Sounds a bit like Yom Kippur in Boro Park...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm WR:

This 1954 Japanese Buddhist chant curiously sounds more familiar than expected. I was hearing parallels to rural shape note singing.

Avatar 1:07pm Mayuko:

@fred I have good amount of green tea left, I guess I'll eventually have to see how bourbon works with them rather than black teas with all sorts of nice flavor. Might be just fine.
Avatar 1:08pm Mayuko:

Hi WR! Jeff g! rbrt!! Thanks for tuning in!!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm tmoyo:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm tmoyo:

Have a good day rw!
Avatar 1:19pm Mayuko:

@rw Play Vertigo 20 minutes delayed would be the biggest change for me but I really don't think it'd the end of the world, communication-wise. To think people had to write letters back in the days. I don't think it's impossible to survive that again!
