"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

Morning, JA, J'all of you.
  9:08am banksy68:

Has anyone else heard the Ornette Coleman album he recorded with his then 8 or 9 yr old son on drums?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am p20:

I've never heard this track before. Charlie Haden's bass work is fantastic (2nd greatest bassist after Mingus, IMO). This record looks pretty strange, they cover the "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman" theme? Going to try to hunt this one down

@banksy68: Which one? Denardo started recording when he was 10, his first record was "The Empty Foxhole" www.discogs.com...
Avatar 9:10am John Allen:

Anyone hearing distortion.? Sound ok?
  9:11am banksy68:

Yes, the empty foxhole. I own a vinyl copy but haven’t listened to it in years

Avatar 9:14am Fredericks:

Usually, I baled during the Everly Brothers remix. Today I am riveted.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15am WoodsOfNH:

I was lucky enough to see Ornette & Prime Time right after Tone Dialing came out. One of the most amazing concerts I've attended. There were times like it seemed that they all had gone out on separate cliffs...how would they get back? And then...they'd simultaneously halt...and then launch off in a separate direction. It was nuts.
  9:17am testingwithfire:

hi all from Chiloe, Chile!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am p20:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am WoodsOfNH:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29am steveo:

acadia is off-brand for you, Woods
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30am WoodsOfNH:

@steveo What do you mean by that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am steveo:

  9:34am JakeGould:

Hey John! Heard a few drop out soon the track that just played. You remote?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am WoodsOfNH:

Yeah, I know. I live and work here but our "forever home," as they say, is up there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am steveo:

nice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am p20:

@steveo@9:22: That reminds me of this one: "All jazz is free jazz if you stand out in front of the club and listen from outside"
  9:35am David in London:

Woods, does NH refer to New Hampshire?
Avatar 9:35am jake6573:

This is why I listen to FMU, Gary Bartz , Blue, best thing I ever heard. Would never have heard it in my life if was not tuned in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am p20:

JA: Sound is "good enough". We can tell you are remote but it sounds OK
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am Handy Haversack:

@Woods, a couple of years ago we spent a week in the town of Penobscot, near Blue Hill. REALLY hoping to get back some time soonish ... rented a canoe that we kept strapped to the car and put it in two or three places a day. Spent one day in Acadia.
Avatar 9:36am jake6573:

Sound quality was great on that Track, did not believe stream could sound that good.
  9:37am JakeGould:

I meant to say “drop outs.”

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am WoodsOfNH:

@David in London Yes! @Handy Yes, the entire Blue Hill peninsula is gorgeous. We originally wanted to have a house on the island (MDI) but man, cross the bridge and the real estate goes up by 200%!
  9:42am JakeGould:

No prob. Streaming in mono if that matters.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am Ken From Hyde Park:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am Handy Haversack:

@Woods: I am sure it does! We really loved it there. Even entertained thoughts of what it would mean to live there. Everyone we met had four jobs, and niches we could fill seemed filled, locally, so ...

But we definitely hope to be back!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am p20:

@John Allen: Is this from "(In) The Abyssity Of The Grounds"? I didn't know Linda Sharrock had recorded any new material this century
  9:44am nholliewog:

  9:47am JakeGould:

@common: I went on the subway on Wednesday to head to the farmer’s market. First subway trip in days. The passengers in my car was one other person at the far end of the car and a comedically huge turd right in the middle of the car.
Avatar 9:48am Beast of Boonton:

I can hear Harpo Marx on this track
  9:49am morphe':

Not my comment: " Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? " JA, if that listener still listens - you owe him a Dub tune!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am Handy Haversack:

New cleaning regimen already yielding results, @JakeGould!
  9:49am Dan:

Love the sounds even more after seeing the jazz room
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am p20:

I can hear Karl Marx on this track. It represents the breakdown of bourgeoius capitalism.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50am common:

@JakeGould: it's insane out there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51am steveo:

ja, do you know who's on jackhammer?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am p20:

seriously, this is amazing. i had no idea this recording existed and i'm super-psyched that john allen is playing it right now
  9:54am David in London:

JA, yeah, dub us up later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55am karlward:

When WFMU transmits live from the Catskills, the signal is piped in right through the water, via the same aqueduct that supplies water to New York City. Little did they know, the City, that they were drinking jazz water all along.
  9:56am JakeGould:

@common: I used to go outside and relax; now everything ls just tense. Getting sun and walking but coming home and napping to avoid the turds of the world.
Avatar 9:56am mb:

I'll take another round of your jazz water. Can i have a lemon in that? No? Ok.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57am Handy Haversack:

@karlward: it only goes up to the fifth floor without a pump. That's why all the corporate boardrooms are on the top floors. They can't risk the contagion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57am WoodsOfNH:

I could really use some jazz water right about now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00am p20:

Searched for Jazz Water and found this. ibb.co...
  10:01am JakeGould:

Is “Jazz Water” some off-brand hand sanitizer?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am p20:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am p20:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am WoodsOfNH:

  10:07am JakeGould:

@p20: You need top physically go places for work?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am p20:

When I first heard US Maple I thought they were just the weirdest band. Sounds pretty normal to me now!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am karlward:

Never liked the term "math rock" but I admit that I like the geometric taste
  10:08am Slaboch:

Your remote underground bunker studio looks great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am p20:

@jake gould: I had a remote-work job already when this all started. But today I don't have to work at all.
  10:09am ami ad:

Hello D.J. Hello all.I like your style.
  10:10am JakeGould:

@p20: Well hey!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10am Handy Haversack:

Love this SY track!

When All This Is Behind Us(TM), I am going to go absolutely murder as many bagels as I can get my hands on. It will be a spree! But I am digging my new quarantine bfast of apple with peanut butter and honey.

Still, though. Bagels.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11am p20:

@jake gould: it's been 7 or 8 years since I had to go anywhere. It has its upsides and its downsides. It does get weird sometimes. But right now of course I realize how incredibly lucky I am. And I'm trying to help people who are less lucky.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am Andrew Waterloo:

is this at the wrong speed?
Avatar 10:13am John Allen:

Yeah weve got to lose turntable 2 after this one
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am WoodsOfNH:

@Handy I know. I usually have an English muffin as part of breakfast but we haven't gone into a store in a month. Have started baking bread again, which is sort of therapeutic (and tasty!)
  10:14am JakeGould:

@p20: Got it! I perms-lanced from 2001 to 2010 and honestly hated it. Crazy hours, barely decent pay, no benefits but at least I had something.

Now I am working remotely from my day job and it’s better because everyone I work with is in the same boat; we are all working from home and past 5:00pm or 6:00pm nobody is working so all good.

I too am happy I have something; so many are so screwed in this mess.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15am tom from Glasgow:

great stuff JA
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am tom from Glasgow:

lol that was at the wrong speed? it sounded cool anyway, like something that would have been on AmRep
Avatar 10:17am John Allen:

Yeah cassie sounded like thurston
  10:19am Diane:

Sounds great from the other Catskills here in Prattsville. Careful because the locals hate us "jerkoffs" (to quote the late X-Ray Burns). I do feel guilty/lucky, although I don't have a job now:(
Avatar 10:20am Mike & Dusty:

John what da heck

you have accessed the sounds from inside my head
  10:21am David in London:

I’m having joy, I’m having fun, I’m having seastones in the sun.
  10:27am The Butterman:

Is this Seastones as in Ned Lagin, Phil Lesh and a hint of Jerry Garcia?
  10:28am The Butterman:

I just busted this out this CD yesterday. No shit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29am p20:

Ooh this was originally recorded in quadrophonic. Wonder if there's any way to hear it that way
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32am sphere:

hey there. btw, for me john's voice kinda goes into the red at times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am p20:

yeah the vocal mic is a bit hot - several people have pointed it out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am Handy Haversack:

That's just how people talk in the Catskills. It's got an edgy, in-your-face attitude!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am sphere:

sorry p20, i skimmed the chat and didn't see anything
  10:37am JakeGould:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am WoodsOfNH:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am steveo:

@Todd76Pct Got to see Jeff Beck when he toured on Garage Shop (co-headliner: Steve Ray Vaughn...so good!) Yeah, that live album is great with the exception of that little bit of awful singing. On "Full Moon Boogie," I think.

Thanks for the show, JA. Wandered down some musical paths I don’t usually travel. My ears are happy, though.

@Carmichael I'm sure there were some Vaughn fans who were perplexed as to why Beck was opening. They both came out at the end and did "I'm Going Down." Good gawd, it was LOUD!!!

Oh, dang, almost 12! That happened fast!

Thanks for the show, JA -- really enjoyed it! And thanks to you and all your network (and the SKELETON BOARD OPS) for doing all the work to make this happen live! Deep appreciation!
