wow dude. my first taste of other music, given to me by my uncle when i was about 4 along with a light box to stare at in the dark, was emerald web's dragon wings and wizard tales

Cool, thanks Yvang!

Duck, whoa you remember that from when you were 4?? You must have had a cool uncle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30am

Much obliged, Yvang!
  4:32am
Sally:

I don't know what's cooler, getting an Emerald Web record at age 4 or getting a light box to gaze at in the dark at age 4 :)
Avatar 4:36am
duck:

don't quote me, it was way back there tho. the album is synthesizer & flute. there's a part with a dragon sleeping that stuck with me. i still do things with lights but my uncle is into lettuce. also, this music gets me high
  4:44am
Sally:

I just listened to a little bit of it on Discogs and will have to listen to the full thing later. I read the duo (Kat Epple and Bob Stohl) performed in Planetariums.
  4:47am
Toothgrinder Tom:

I’ve never even heard of Emerald Web until this a.m,
  4:50am
Toothgrinder Tom:

By the way when he said The Beach Boys rebuilt their studio in Holland to record their album - was that really necessary? Why not just use a pre-existing studio in Holland?
  4:51am
Sally:

Yeah Tom, I thought the same thing ha
  4:52am
Toothgrinder Tom:

Or did he really mean they just customized a studio with some equipment they brought from America?
  4:54am
Sally:

I knew the Beach Boys moved there with their families to record that record but forget they built a studio. I think it was like a communal studio they customized?
  4:54am
Toothgrinder Tom:

@Sally I’m relieved!
  4:55am
Sally:

Sort of like the one Can built? I dunno. Just guessing 'cause I'm lazy and don't want to Google it.
  5:01am
Sally:

@Hi from Holland, what's the real story behind the Beach Boys' Holland LP if you're still there?
  5:06am
Toothgrinder Tom:

I guess if they were there for an extended stay with their families it might make sense, and of course they would have had the resources. It just sounded a little extravagant for just one record, the way Stan phrased it. I remember reading that the a Rolling Stones had a mobile studio in a bus or camper van that they used to record one of their albums in the early 70’s so maybe it was the thing to do in that era.
  5:12am
Toothgrinder Tom:

Wikipedia quotes one of the band members saying it was a difficult record to make because ‘it was a rough little piecemeal rebuilt studio in a garage next to a cow pasture’ and it ‘didn’t have the right electricity’. Not sure why they chose to work there though.
  5:15am
Sally:

Ha that's cool... yeah it definitely sounded extravagant to ship studio equipment form America all the way to Holland just for one record, especially given that description! Didn't Deep Purple record at that Rolling Stones custom built mobile studio in Switzerland? Yeah Smoke on the Water was about that, I think.

Damn Stan, you sound GOOD! Here at Mission Control groovin on what you're puttin' down!
  5:25am
Toothgrinder Tom:

@Sally, yeah that sounds familiar. I think I read about the mobile studio in a book about the recording of ‘Exile on Main Street’ but honestly it’s all a bit hazy.
  5:26am
Toothgrinder Tom:

@Robbo I’m from here and I love his accent!
