Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22am steveo:

yeah, i mean, i think it's somewhat obvious that it will be better once he actually starts :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am David (in London):

steveo - There was a really good UK thriller in the mid 1980s called Travelling Man, in which the hero travelled aboard his narrow boat, Harmony. Available on DVD and still very good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am steveo:

what p20 said; really super set

D(iL) interesting, thanks; I'd only previously associated narrowboats with Amsterdam... but apparently the UK canals are quite a thing; glad to be learning about them

@steveo, funny one of their friends is called steveo.

most people my age are called steveo :)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29am WoodsOfNH:

I knew a steveo when I was at UMaine.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32am David (in London):

annie - Which film was it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am steveo:

i've been really getting into videos about backpacking & through-hiking so having a houseboat is sort of an extension of that. (no hiking of my own while sheltering at home, alas)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am annie:

"Traveling Man"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am WoodsOfNH:

James Elkington reminded me a little of Daniel Bachman. Very good.

My pleasure, Israel. Hey Dave - you have to, you never know what might happen when singles get together.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am David (in London):

annie - Oh, ha ha, right. I had a quick peak online, and it looks like a very different kettle of fish. But if JL is in it, I'd be willing to give it a go too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am p20:

@WoodsOfNH: Elkington is much more song-oriented. Daniel Bachman has been getting into some long-format, droney pieces lately, embellished with field recordings - some "Deep Americana"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am WoodsOfNH:

@20 Right. Was also going to say that he reminded me of Leo Kottke.

  10:41am Rick A.:

One of the few benefits of working at home is listening to Joe's show. Normally, I would unavailable from 9-12:30. I listened constantly to that Johnny Rivers' live at the Whiskey A-Go-Go album when I was in high school. New York's own John Ramistella, has a song called "The Snake" in the new Guy Ritchie movie which is worth seeing, his best in years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am annie:

i'll watch that first, then go to the LL version. as Steve Buscemi's character in "fargo"says: i'm going crazy out there by the lake"...

@pantz: I'm a big fan of Barton Fink: "I'll show you the life of the mind!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49am David (in London):

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51am p20:

@pantz: I'm not sure what you mean. Sorry if I offended you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51am pantz:

@David in London I live in the home of the Lebowskifest. Let's roll!

i have no tv here, by choice, and when i go to a pet-sit gig,the teevee is dominating the living room. i miss it.....but..not..bu.. yes..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am p20:

@HH: Crazy thing is, when I saw that movie I had never seen John Goodman before and I had no idea who he was - I live in a bit of a self-constructed bubble. It was so weird to see the psycho killer from Barton Fink show up on the "Roseanne" show :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58am Crudbringer:

Waiting for the scene when Roseanne wanders into the kitchen at two in the morning and finds him staring at his knife.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58am David (in London):

Excuse the bad language, but I must therefore just raise the matter of John Goodman going mental and smashing up the car: "This is what happens when you **** a stranger in the ***".

@David: I have to restrain myself from saying that pretty much hourly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00am pantz:

Speaking of Lebowski, has anyone seen "The Jesus Rolls"?
  11:01am Bill W:

I first saw John Goodman in David Byrne's TRUE STORIES film...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am David (in London):

@pantz - No, but it was a real stinker in the ratings apparently.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am annie:

True Stories!!!! best film ever!!
  11:02am Rick A.:

In our current moment, this Lebowski quote feels most relevant: "Say what you will about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude. At least, it's an ethos!" Our current tin pot dictator has no ethos and thus his legacy will not last though he is creating much destruction on the way.

tbqh I don't like much of the Coens' output in the '90s -- too smug and snarky. They recovered with THE MAN WHO WASN'T THERE and have generally pleased me since.
