Avatar 9:06pm Marty McSorley:

hey hey everyone. recorded this one in my basement this afternoon. hyped to have a new show for you. and shooting to be back all the way live from the basement next week!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06pm radioronan:

Cheez-it supply stats? This song never loses it's relevance. Mickey Newbury classic. Hey Marty!
Avatar 9:09pm JakeGould:

Suggested this elsewhere, but a lot of DJs are saying they are recording from basements, closets, under blankets and such… I think pics would be great to memorialize this weird and cool stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09pm mariano:

These shows will be remembered as your Basement Tapes, Marty.

Margaritas and cheezits. Not just for breakfast anymore.
Avatar 9:11pm Marty McSorley:

we are down to one box of cheez-it. this week we killed two 12 packs of modelo, a big bottle of rum, almost all of a bottle of tequila, and about 2/3rds of a handel fo jamison. i just ordered 7-11 delivery of a 18 pack of coors light. and some more mixers for the hard shit we got left.
Avatar 9:11pm coelacanth∅))):

i don't understand the chicken reference, but that's okay.
great version by les surfs

Avatar 9:13pm JakeGould:

@Franco: There’s Kenny Rogers, the man and artist… And there’s Kenny Rogers, the guy who figured out how to make money on his name without really doing much other than saying roasted chicken is good.
Avatar 9:13pm Franco Twinkie:

Coel, Kenny Rodgers Roaster - a fast food chain that is/was truly horrid.

Avatar 9:14pm coelacanth∅))):

damn, why would he do that to his good name?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15pm mariano:

MadTV used to do a pretty good sendup of Kenny and his roaster informercials. There was one skit where he and James Brown were hired to dub over a kung fu flick that was pretty funny.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16pm mariano:

Wait, did the Corleones know that the don's wife had a secret recording career?

On thing that is kind of hazy - was there a picture of him on the sign? The one in Hollywood was on Vine St. near the Merv Griffin Theater AND Pic'n Save.
Avatar 9:17pm JakeGould:

@coelacanth∅: It’s a celebrity retirement plan. Either figure out how to — basically — sell out in your twilight years or go to your grave literally fighting over t-shirt sales like all of the Ramones did.
  9:17pm cvh:

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, especially with everything going on.... but on the 90.1FM signal, the audio is going in and out.
Avatar 9:18pm coelacanth∅))):

yeah Jake, the sad truth there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18pm radioronan:

Gonna have to arrange for a cheez-it survival package to the basement bunker next week. We need our DJ to be nourished enough to keep spinning those rekkids.

  9:21pm cvh:

re: my comment above -- the intro to each song seems to come in loud and clear, and then the audio drops down a lot. Maybe some kind of audio compressor issue?
  9:22pm CC:

it might just be atmospheric conditions CVH???
  9:23pm cvh:

@CC -- could be, I guess... but I'm not getting any kind of static that would indicate that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23pm mariano:

Was that the Foreman Grill with "set it and forget it"?
Avatar 9:24pm Marcel M:

Marty! All. Great to hear you live, brother. Cheers!
  9:25pm CC:

what is your weather like up there right now???
Avatar 9:26pm coelacanth∅))):

i just remember seeing those ads and thinking all those punches must've knocked him right back to 11 years old
  9:26pm Carmichael:

Good call on the Jameson, Marty.
  9:27pm cvh:

@CC -- no major weather. And I just tried the webstream, which sounds ok. So, I dont know! I just wanted to put it out there to let folks know. If it keeps up I guess I'll email the station.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm steveo:

91.1 is also coming in spotty for me in Brooklyn. Are you listening on a mono receiver by any chance, cvh?
Avatar 9:27pm coelacanth∅))):

mmm maybe some jameson is in the cards here too
Avatar 9:28pm Marty McSorley:

i emailed ken to let him know. i dont have his number here at home to call or txt him hopefully they will be able to get it figured out.
  9:29pm CC:

where I live you need a good antenna for everything that comes in off of a satellite!!!
  9:29pm cvh:

thx Marty. It would suck to have a transmitter issue at this time with everything going on. Good news is the webstream seems fine.
Avatar 9:29pm Franco Twinkie:

Mariano, Yup! throw in some short ribs and head out to the garage with your crack pipe.
Avatar 9:29pm coelacanth∅))):

i have no antennae hooked up to my receiver but i could go out to my car and check 90.1. just got home and don't really want to get back in my car though!
(much as i like driving)
  9:29pm cvh:

@steveo -- its a stereo
Avatar 9:29pm coelacanth∅))):

...glad you're playing the 12" of this
Avatar 9:29pm Snortley:

Seems like 91.1 is out-of-phase. Sounds better in mono, but then there's usually interference hiss.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm chresti:

Sounds good online.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm Daisy:

Called MGMT aka Ken and he's going to investigate. thanks for letting us know!
Avatar 9:30pm TDK60:

Hello. Odd, 91.1 FM won't work in mono but does in stereo.
Avatar 9:31pm JakeGould:

Well, it could also be a internet issue of two transmitters are behaving that way. Internet service has been consistently unreliable since mid March when everyone started working from home. ISPs are not really setup for continuous demands for bandwidth on consumer connections like this. So it’s all spotty.
Avatar 9:31pm JakeGould:

Thank you board op/cop/mop Daisy!
Avatar 9:31pm Marty McSorley:

thanks for holding it down at the command center Daisy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31pm mariano:

Ah, you holding down the fort this evening, Daisy? Thanks so much!
Avatar 9:32pm Snortley:

@TDK60: That's an indication it's out-of-phase.
  9:32pm Carmichael:

I should hang out more with my 6 sons named George.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32pm Handy Haversack:

91.9 seems solid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm mariano:

Oh man, El Rey! The national anthem of Latino machismo!
Avatar 9:33pm JakeGould:

What about five guys named Moe?
  9:33pm cvh:

@snortley, what seems to happen ist he intro to each song seems to come in loud and clear, and then the audio drops down a lot. I have no idea what that means, though.
Avatar 9:33pm Marcel M:

Got the wife singing along and tranlating this Vincente Fernandez
  9:34pm kym:

Weren't there a couple of daughters named George, also?

I lived in a heavily armed gang territory for many years. I saw corpses laying in the street. I almost got use to it.

Thanks for the Saturday night at home. Why do I ever leave??

A couple months ago we bought our first "new" car in over 20 years, had mostly been driving beaters. I put "new" in quotes because they had to sell it as used because Hyundai had titled it as part of a small set of cars for the press to play with and take to pre-release car shows (it was a new model), and then they never used it. Only had 50 miles on it. Car is waaaay smarter than I'll ever be. This is our (ahem) last car we will ever buy.

radioronan, I have memories of stalling in my mom's Carmen ghia, driving in SF.

i had a friend who had a... 65? and it was just one problem after another. he either totaled it or ruined it after a few months.

A friend's mom in HS had a 68 Mustang with, I think, a 357 engine in it. We were able to drive it around quite a lot for a couple of years.Brakes started to go, and we'd have to stop a couple of hundred yards from the lights and stand on them to keep it from just moving ahead anyway!

Before that, though, once Atlanta got one of its super-rare ice storms, and we went out and used it to push other cars up hills the drivers didn't know how to negotiate.

This sounds super, Marty.

if i had lots of money i would not buy a new car. i'd maybe put a new, efficient motor in an old car.
but i don't want a car that makes decisions. and no anti-lock brakes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49pm Cooh John:

The vocals are killing me.
Avatar 11:49pm Marty McSorley:

yeah i been playing this slowed down on my show for a few years now. love it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm Handy Haversack:

Yeah, new cars just confuse me. I am still not even sold on power windows. Beginning of the end!

I was watching one of those car restoration shows and the guy put a couple electric motors and batteries in a Pinto and turned it into a dragster. I'd drive that.

All I have to say about the quiet in Brooklyn is every one of my neighbors wonders if looting might occur at some point.

At some point the few stores still open might call it quits for now. I mean I have seen the one nice laundromat out of 8 or so that closed in my neighborhood close this week. Ditto with a few other restaurants that have heavy take out but it still doesn’t cover their expenses.

Avatar 11:51pm coelacanth∅:

i resisted power windows for a long time, until i learned that, because the mechanism is lighter, they're good for energy-saving.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52pm radioronan:

Chesti yeah trying to get over the hill in a standard to see the intersection. Carmen Ghia was probably better bet than 390 engine Thunderbird boat though.
Coelacantho - it was a looker!

re: audio issues on 90.1FM … ahhh yeah its gotta be a phase issue, as the piano on this LCD Soundsystem track is coming in fine, but almost no vocals....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm Handy Haversack:

Greenpoint is not as quiet as maybe it should be, or at least it wasn't on Friday. Kate said the parks were pretty crowded today and people were doing a shitty job keeping distance. She did a lot of jogging in place and waiting for the way to clear.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm Phillippe Bastille:

@coel car is primarily my bride's (the Suburban is still spewing along for me), and it's really the first car I've ever felt safe riding with her while she was driving. She is a baaaad driver and this thing corrects all her tailgating-lane-wandering flaws.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm mariano:

Yeah, what the fuck is up with crowded parks? "Hey, it's the worst pandemic in a century, let's all go crowd together!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm Your Ace From Exchange Place:

@Daisy. Wondering if the Mono button on the channel strip is accidentally engaged?
It's one of the 3 buttons on the channel strip above the fader.

...sorry to be a backseat board op.

justified Phillippe!
Avatar 11:57pm JakeGould:

@HandyHaversack: No disrespect to Greenpoint, but some of the dumbest behavior I am seeing is in the typical gentrified neughborhoods. I was out in Prospect Heights and Park Slope today and honestly I was stunned at how many people were walking around without face masks. And how many people were jogging and cycling without much social distance concern.

Next level entitlement.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm mariano:
