Avatar 8:59am fred:

Good morning Jeff and listeners
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:00am Jeff Golick:

Afternoon, @fred!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02am listener james from westwood:

BOOM BOOM BOOM goes the drum for D:O!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02am Andrew Waterloo:

good morning
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03am Jeff Golick:

@listener james! @Andrew Waterloo! Lovely to see you!
Avatar 9:05am Wolfgang ist da!:

Hi All in the Outermost zone!
  9:06am Listener Robert:

You still do this from Detroit, or am I mixing you up with another DJ? (Like maybe mixing up DO with DA?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07am Jeff Golick:

@Wolfgang (aka Stork)! How goes, my man?

@Listener Robert, hello! I'm Brooklyn-based. Who is DA?
Avatar 9:15am Wolfgang ist da!:

Hanging on, Jeff. What a lovely track from Ethiopia!
Avatar 9:18am Sem:

Hello a nd good morning, Jeff, and greets to the D:O faithful, despite the fact that destinations out and about have become in some regards problematic.
Avatar 9:18am hyde:

hello!
  9:19am Listener Gregory:

Good morning. By the grace of God, still congliptious. Hope Jeff and all the Douters are as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21am Jeff Golick:

Stream-parent @Sem! Good morning to you!
Greetings, @hyde!
@Listener Gregory, keep on conglipting!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21am WR:

Listening as I try to invent new breakfast dish involving oatmeal, egg, ghee, chocolate and peanut butter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am Jeff Golick:

@WR! An egg-ghee omelet?
  9:30am Listener Robert:

Oh, how could I have forgotten you were in Brooklyn, Mr. Golick?

DA is Dave Amels -- DA the DJ. Maybe he was the one in Detroit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am WR:

Maybe I've missed it but haven't noticed you mentioning your physical space over lap of home studio and away at college son. So is he still away or ?
  9:32am Listener Robert:

Is the whole of Balance Problems supposed to fuck with your inner ears by doing these L-R channel tricks?
  9:33am Listener Gregory:

Feeling a bit minimal today?
  9:33am Listener Robert:

Actually the loose wires in my headphones do that to me all the time anyway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am ParUbi:

Good morning! Hey there, Jeff and everyone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am Jeff Golick:

Hey, @ParUbi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38am Jeff Golick:

@LR: I didn't experience those L/R issues in my headphones -- not sure!

@LG: feeling all kinds of ways.

@WR: we took pity on the kid (and ourselves) and airlifted him to a farm/compound in rural NJ, where his girlfriend's family is holed up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38am WR:

Balance achieved by putting the peanut butter & chocolate and just a bit of buckwheat pancake mix into the oatmeal before adding the egg.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am WR:

Yet to see if the mixture will hold together for the flip.
  9:41am Listener Robert:

JG, I wouldn't call them "issues" on Balance Problems, I thought they were interesting aural tricks as per the album's title. But my headphones DO have issues.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am WR:

Sounds like an excellent isolation solution Jeff. Good that option was available.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am Jeff Golick:

@WR: "yet to see if the mixture will hold together" is pretty much the theme of this whole operation.
Avatar 9:52am duke:

Hello Jeff and non-Jeffs
  9:52am Listener Gregory:

Interesting about Voice of Chunk. I fell in love with it on first listen. And I think it stands up well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56am Jeff Golick:

@duke - hello there!

@LG: yeah, I had different ears in '89l
  10:00am bigplanetnoise:

Good morning, Jeff & all...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am Jeff Golick:

Big greets, @bigplanetnoise!
  10:07am Gina Bacon:

Morning!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am Jeff Golick:

And the hits keep coming' -- hello, @Gina Bacon!
  10:10am Gina Bacon:

The Miles documentary “Birth Of The Cool is really great, if people are looking for things to watch!
  10:10am Gina Bacon:

Whoops. Need another “
  10:10am Listener Gregory:

"Anything I can do, I can do better" is a great way to challenge yourself.
@Gina, I enjoyed that too.
  10:12am bigplanetnoise:

Coffee first, documentaries later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am Jeff Golick:

@Gina: yeah really enjoyed the Miles doc. I was especially happy to hear from Frances.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am WR:

I'm hearing and eating success for both mixtures. Well done. I was about to write that this is the most "in" recording I've heard with Bennick and then they took it out. Well done.
  10:14am Gina Bacon:

Good idea, bigplanetnoise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am doctorjazz:

Hi all! Watta playlist! Sorta a S. I. Greatest Hits! As usual, will need to check it out later!
  10:20am bigplanetnoise:

Perfect Sunday am soundtrack. Thx, Jeff.
Avatar 10:21am Sem:

Hittin' the sweet spot this morning, JG. Sounds wonderful from where I sit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22am Jeff Golick:

Might be the first Phil Woods I've (knowingly) played here with Lee Morgan.

My absolute pleasure, @bpn!

Hey, @doctorjazz! How you holding up?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22am Jeff Golick:

Yay, @Sem!
Avatar 10:26am Wolfgang the Dubious:

I'm kvelling already with the bopping. Love that Lee rekkid!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27am Stanley:

I've just had a little nap.
Woke up to some easy listening Roland Kirk and had to see where it was coming frrom.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27am doctorjazz:

I'm good, Jeff! Two daughters holed up with us here.
Avatar 10:27am Wolfgang the Dubious:

Great to hear it, Doctor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28am doctorjazz:

Is this the "missing Broadway" set?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29am Jeff Golick:

Sorta, @doc. It's my "missed my chance to fill in for Acid Jazz Hands" set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29am Gina Bacon:

Love this Rahsaan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31am Jeff Golick:

@Wolfgang: I am late to that Lee Morgan album! Only recently got to it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am Jeff Golick:

I think technically he was still "Roland Kirk" at that point, but I'm gonna leave the Rahsaan on there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am Jeff Golick:

Masabumi Kikuchi can go groan-to-groan with Keith Jarrett any day.
  10:34am Listener Gregory:

Yes, I thought it was Jarrett.
  10:35am Listener Gregory:

BTW, wasn't "Leave the Rahsaan On" the name of your first band in high school?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am Jeff Golick:

hahahaha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am WR:

Interesting showcase for Kirk it was, having many of his signature maneuvers, multi horn chorus, whistle, vocalizations but all subdued to the service of the song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am coelacanth∅:

good morning Jeff & DOers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am Jeff Golick:

Good morning, @coelacanth∅!
Avatar 10:38am fred:

@doctorjaz: so do your daughters like the new "wallpaper" (aka overflow record shelves) in their rooms?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am coelacanth∅:

good job, Cat!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am ParUbi:

Hello Dolly has more than one cover?!
  10:48am Listener Gregory:

You could make up an entire Jazz Hands show with just the Paul Motian "On Broadway" series; or Jarrett's Standards albums. So, I think you could do it, Jeff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51am Doug Schulkind:

Hello, D:Oers! Let's have some Dewar's!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am doctorjazz:

Fred-haven't taken over their rooms, still have room elsewhere for incoming albums. Their rooms are so cluttered with their crap that couldn't really store much in them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55am coelacanth∅:

it's a bit early, Doug don't you think?
-just a sip
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56am Doug Schulkind:

There are extraordinary times, coelacanth∅. They deserve extraordinary measures.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56am Jeff Golick:

@Doug Schulkind. @Doug Schulkind!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56am Jeff Golick:

@ParUbi: ha. It's true!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Reporting for duty. Greetings, Jeff and WFMU comrades!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58am coelacanth∅:

true Doug.
...just one more sip
  10:58am Handsome Johnny:

Hello Jeff, freeform in deed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58am coelacanth∅:

the 'Elevators!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am Jeff Golick:

Ayo, @Granny Spicy Tuna!
@Handsome Johnny! We know no other way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

hey! pass that Dewar's on the left hand side
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am coelacanth∅:

ice?
  11:00am Handsome Johnny:

Where is Dutchietheo?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am Gina Bacon:

Johnny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am WR:

So interesting this set, playing performers from my youth but tunes I've forgotten or didn't get to remember in the first place.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am doctorjazz:

I'm actually on "furlough" since April 1. As opposed to what's happening in hospitals, most offices are extremely quiet. All "routine" visits are on hold, sick kids get telephone screened, handled at home if possible. The other doc I work with was out for about a week (she tested negative for Covid-19, but there's a pretty high false negative rate, I'm pretty sure that's what she had). When she came back, the 2 of us were sitting around most of the time. So administration offered a furlough, I was mixed, family pushed me to take it. Looking into doing telemedicine in New Jersey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am coelacanth∅:

never heard the Johnny Thunders song, but i couldn't help but think of "i'm alive" by 999
Avatar 11:03am fred:

Good morning Doug. Is the yoga class over?
Avatar 11:04am Wolfgang the Precarious:

On day drinking: pandemics invoke airport rules: if you wanna manhattan at 7:30 in the morning, go for it. In Germany, airport rules apply at all times anyway. They sell hard liquor at every gas-station.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05am Doug Schulkind:

@fred
Yes, all done. Yoga by Zoom video. At one point I was doing downward-facing dog, and my dog was licking my head.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am Jeff Golick:

That's her way of saying, "good dog, Doug."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am doctorjazz:

Been meditating with the family, which also gets the dogs thinking I'm sitting there to be licked and pet them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am WR:

Heard Horse Lords for first time on WFMU recently. Interesting band but more interesting to me is that their Wikipedia page does not mention Beefheart Magic Band influence.
  11:07am Handsome Johnny:

Busy day in the garden, doing chicken coop and run maintenance. Lifting a glass of beer to all listeners out there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am doctorjazz:

Horse Lords track is terrific!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am coelacanth∅:

Jeff haha!(@11.06)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am Jeff Golick:

Cheers, @Handsome Johnny! And to all <<clinks coffee mug>>
Avatar 11:08am fred:

@Doug: Just one class? After your last show, I was afraid your wife would make you take five
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am Doug Schulkind:

Yeah, this is sublime.
  11:09am Handsome Johnny:

fred, good one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09am Doug Schulkind:

I am sticking to my one class per week. Gotta maintain my routine. Wife and daughter are indeed up to 4-5 classes a week.
  11:09am Listener Gregory:

@doctorjazz, I heard a story about independent doctors' offices. As you say, their business has gone down greatly, and some specialty surgeons, for example, can do almost no work. They are having to lay off staff and may go bankrupt. Another sad consequence of the epidemic. It's a weird contrast to the stories of overrun ER doctors, etc.
Avatar 11:10am John from NP:

Horse Lords... discovering good music!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10am Uncle Michael:

Anyone else hear the Saharan influence in this?
  11:11am Handsome Johnny:

@Uncle, what Oasis?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am Jeff Golick:

Hellooo, @John from NP!
And yeah, @Uncle Michael!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am Jeff Golick:

Horse Lords do a tremendous version of a Julius Eastman tune.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am doctorjazz:

OK, falling down on the job, Jeff...my first visit to the Bandcamp link for Horse Lords (but, I did miss the 1st set).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am Uncle Michael:

Horse Lords...Fanfare had a real Tuareg thing going on with the guitar.
Avatar 11:15am fred:

I saw Horse Lords once, in the basement of a crowded bar (last minute show to fill a gap in their tour). Great show anyway
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

i stepped away to prepare my gaiwan of puerh (clink to Handsome Johnny!) and missed Horse Lords. Apparently i need to go back and investigate later…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am Jeff Golick:

Oh man, @fred; jealous.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am Doug Schulkind:

Jeez, fred, just the crowded bar sounds good. The House Lords was a bonus.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am doctorjazz:

Some great 2020 releases...expect less to come out the rest of the year...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am Uncle Michael:

37.5% of all FMU plays of Fanfare for Effective Freedom have been on GTDR.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am Jeff Golick:

Keeping up our end of things.
Avatar 11:28am fred:

@doctorjazz: maybe, maybe not. With musicians holed up, there could be a burst of creativity (maybe solo records though)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am doctorjazz:

I just looked back at the Ben Goldberg Bandcamp link...breaks my heart.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

enjoying this whole set wow
Avatar 11:41am fred:

@doctorjazz: I'm worried that many small venues might not reopen after this. It's even worse in Paris as they had already been hit hard by a 6+ week transit strike in December/January
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am WR:

Was listening to No Mas yesterday. Still digesting if this is essential for me, but they are on my radar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am Jeff Golick:

@fred: that is indeed a concern.

@WR: kind of an updated Jayne Cortez/Firespitters thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am Jeff Golick:

Check out Stork at the top of the hour, over here: wfmu.org...

He put flowers out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am doctorjazz:

@Fred-that would truly be a sad consequence (and, I fear, pretty likely)>
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am WR:

Have yet to hear intensity of Jane Cortez in the three tunes I've listened to, but they have a groove going. And I'm glad they are going for it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am doctorjazz:

Who Sent You, available in maroon vinyl, just shoot me...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49am doctorjazz:

Downloading the BEN Goldberg...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49am ParUbi:

The historical precedents precede the birth of most of the living. That's what's weird for me. Also, there's a jumping spide on my screen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49am doctorjazz:

(it's free, with a request for a donation...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Jeff, you're speaking my feelings, too
  11:50am Listener Gregory:

This show is the East Village of WFMU.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am doctorjazz:

Thanks so much, Jeff! Great show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am Doug Schulkind:

@Listener Gregory
We prefer the L.E.S. to the East Village.
Avatar 11:53am Wolfgang the Precarious:

Fine old show, Jeff.
  11:53am Listener Gregory:

@Doug, I really went back and forth on that. You're probably right.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am Doug Schulkind:

The Stork Club is up next on the Drummer Stream. Shuffle on over here for more intimate distancing: wfmu.org...
Avatar 11:54am hyde:

if this show is the Lower East Side of WFMU, I'd like a pastrami on rye from Katz's and some smoked fish from Russ and Daughters
  11:54am Listener Robert:

Doug, did you ever play with the L.E.S.? Friend of mine does sometimes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am doctorjazz:

Anyone see the New Yorker tribute to Adam Schlesinger? Kept me up until all hours, listening to all the links...

  11:57am bigplanetnoise:

So great! Thx, Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am Dave Sewelson:

beautiful Jeff, thanks
  11:57am Listener Gregory:

@Hyde, The Horse Lords were the pastrami, and Lounge Lizards the smoked fish. Don't put them on the same sandwich, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am Jeff Golick:

Oy. Can't keep up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

lovely, thank you, Jeff! See you in the Stork Club, idiots! xoxox
