And here we are
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01am Mr. Pumpy:

HELLo! Fuck...my dad left the TV on...and this guy is on again. OK...better
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02am Handy Haversack:

Lo!
  12:02am JakeGould:

And today is just another tomorrow.
  12:02am rich:

good morning all,
here's to look at: www.lukejerram.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02am Handy Haversack:

Basilisk encounters are petrifying.

Hi, Rich!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03am chresti:

Hi rich and squirrel inflatables.
Avatar 12:03am northguineahills:

I see in order to get past that sign, I need to be a plant, be right back!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03am Wendy del Formaggio:

Hey Rich!
I'm so sleepy...dunno how long I can hold out... I don't stay up late like you kids do.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03am McGroovey:

Cool crystally things. Looks like the white might sound (like).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03am chresti:

Good thing animals can read.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04am coelacanth∅:

greetings rich and squirrelly dirigibles
  12:04am rich:

pre-recorded again this week. should be live next week as i am waiting for an adapter for my headphones which may have arrived today, which it did not, so i am glad i pre-redorded
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04am Handy Haversack:

Wendy, as a fellow 1974er, I just want to say: I know you can do it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04am Mr. Pumpy:

By 'this guy' I meant Mr. Whipple. Don't tell me not to squeeze the Charmin. I earned this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05am Handy Haversack:

They can read *English*, chresti.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05am Wendy del Formaggio:

Haha, thanks, Handy. It's more that if I stay up too late, I sleep really poorly. I'm at that age where a regular sleep-schedule is pretty crucial. Or maybe it all started when I had Lyme disease. I dunno.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05am Chop Scott:

Rich! Great to hear you and Penderecki!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05am Daniel Blumin:

rich, pre-recorded sounds mighty fine!!!
  12:06am rich:

hi parubi, mr. p, handy, jake, chresti, jake, wendy (the show will eventually put you to sleep so stay awake until it does), mcgroovey, coel, chop scott, et al.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06am ParUbi:

this piece is just amazing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06am Ken From Hyde Park:

Basilisk ... isn't that the lizard that propels itself across ponds on its hind legs?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06am Wendy del Formaggio:

Rich, it would be far from the first time I fell asleep to WFMU. Not because it's soporific; because I can't bring myself to turn off the radio!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08am Mr. Pumpy:

Hay rich...how are you? All things considered, I hope you are enjoying sitting back now that all the work was done up front. Blame any technical problems on Gremlins or Russians...Or Plebeians. Even if it is the philistines.
  12:08am rich:

kfh yes and mythical reptile who can kill with a glance
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08am mariano:

Hey Rich, everyone. Handy - meant to ask you, regarding the D&D relic: is the Hyperborea you reference the Robert L. Howard version or the one from Classical mythology? KenFHP - the stare of a basilisk could turn someone to stone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08am Handy Haversack:

"Only the weasel can kill a basilisk."

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08am Mr. Pumpy:

Hay...ha! HayHa
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09am mariano:

Oh man, medieval bestiaries are a trip!
  12:09am Websie:

Good evening, Rich. Looking fwd to mic break pronunciation of Penderecki.
  12:09am CC:

hi Rich we are cratered and have to crash...Cheerz!!!
  12:10am rich:

mr p. the technical problems they don't come across in the pre-record but the inability to speak even when shouting at the computer mic continue
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10am daupomatic:

Yes. This seems like a Penderecki time we're sharing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10am Mr. Pumpy:

Speaking of D&D...it's been years, but does anyone have a recommendation of a good spot online to get my charisma on? And...do I need to know the secret handshake or whatever? Asking for...me. I want to behold some beholders.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10am mariano:

Crashing, CC? If so, have a good night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11am Mr. Pumpy:

rich...try harder. Louder. LOUDER! You'll get it.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12am daupomatic:

Sir Pumpy, I know there's a subreddit for organizing RPGs.

Ah, here:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12am ParUbi:

Don't inhale the Lysol, CC! Sleep well
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12am Mr. Pumpy:

@daupo...thank you, kindly!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13am Wendy del Formaggio:

Okay, I have to say goodnight before I'm too tired to drive home. (Okay, I am actually in my bed, but it sounded better to leave a party with that line.)
Good night, everyone! See you soon here on the playlist. Stay safe, and don't breathe if you go outside.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13am Handy Haversack:

@mariano, so, it's based on both, kind of. It's a 1e AD&D clone with a lot of rough edges sanded off and a setting that's the lost arctic continent of Earth in another dimension with a bunch of Earth tribal groups having stumbled through at various periods but once ruled by a version of the classical Hyperboreans -- sorcerer-rulers of unrivaled power until they got decadent. And then eventually a plague took out most of the continent. So vast areas of howling wilderness populated by things out of D&D, Lovecraft, Smith, Howard, Vance. And tiny human settlements. And then my version skews even a little weirder ...

Uh, Mr. P, you can just join my game, you know.

hyperborea.tv
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13am Mr. Pumpy:

Enjoy your brie pillow, Wendy!
  12:14am rich:

handy thanks i did not know only a weasel could kill a basilisk it's like a european version of a mongoose and a cobra
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14am Wendy del Formaggio:

Thanks, Mr. P. It's the most delicious pillow of all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14am daupomatic:

I haven't used it, so I'll be curious how it goes. Seems like it should be hopping these days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14am Handy Haversack:

Otherwise, I can offer advice on where to find games that would suit you, Mr. P.

Night, Wendy! Happy birthday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14am coelacanth∅:

g'night Wendy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14am Franco Twinkie:

Mr. Pumpy, A friends father wrote the forward to the Carlos Castenada book Don Juan: A Yaqui Way Of Knowledge. It was originally published by UCLA. Of course, as it would play out, it became highly contested as a work of serious anthropology. When I asked Walter, who had been Castenatas faculty adviser about it, he became irritated and dismissive and said it was the biggest mistake of his professional life.
Avatar 12:14am northguineahills:

Ghostly International Recs never ceases to surprise me. Oh, and killer Perdercki! (scheisse, phrasing?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14am Mr. Pumpy:

Handy...is that a link leading there...or is that for mariano? I want in...and thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14am zopa:

hi rich. looking forward to you being live again. bye rich. gotta sleep. i'll play the archive tomorrow whilst puzzling.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15am Wendy del Formaggio:

Thanks, Handy. Sleep well, whenever you get around to it!
Good night, Coelacanth0.
Over and out.
  12:15am rich:

good night wendy have a happy bday next friday
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16am mariano:

Night Wendy, happy birthday week!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16am Mr. Pumpy:

Handy...I trust you, bruv. What do I do? You can message me offline if it's not intuitive. Don't want to bore the prime-time crowd.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16am ParUbi:

@Franko-- because he made it all up, right? It's such a strange thing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17am Daniel Blumin:

G'night, Wendy! See ya on yr birty perhaps!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17am Handy Haversack:

Of course, Mr. P. We are playing Sundays 12-6 these days, over Jit.Si or Zoom. I will e-mail you more info.

That's a link to the game (a D&D clone). There are PDFs for cheap, too. I'll e-mail!
  12:17am rich:

our first big thank you to daisy this evening who board opping once again
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18am Handy Haversack:

Thanks, Daisy! Praise her with great praise!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19am Franco Twinkie:

ParUbi, I guess so. Academics don't truck with that kind of monkey business.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20am ParUbi:

I think it's the kind of thing that doesn't translate well into the academic world. The whole thing has its own dream logic, a kind of truth
Avatar 12:20am Fox:

Helloooo again everyone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21am Ken From Hyde Park:

'Night, Wendy. (She may already be underneath her quilt of processed American cheese squares.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21am Mr. Pumpy:

@Franco...HA! I can see that. I love that story though, but at the time I can understand the reaction because know how divisive the works were. They still are I suppose. So it goes. I don't worry myself over the politics of seemingly disparate ideologies Instead, I cherish my personal takeaways. Good stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21am mariano:

Thanks Daisy - and hi Fox!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21am Franco Twinkie:

Well, all us kiddies who were tripping out at the time loved it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21am Handy Haversack:

*Heirloom* processed American cheese squares!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22am mariano:

Handy: that's really interesting about your campaign setting. The description of the relic was really well written, sounds like you've built the campaign very carefully and with lots of detail. Good to see people using 1e AD&D, the only one I ever really played.
Avatar 12:22am Hams:

fox, hope you are feeling better, & the roommate ain't buggin' you too much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22am Mr. Pumpy:

This has a great sound. I am feeling Jerry Goldsmith in some of the more poignant Star Trek episodes. I don't mean to diminish this. I think JG hit something beautifully emotive that the masses will never be privy to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23am coelacanth∅:

the "common" basalisk (ALSO known as the jesus lizard)
en.wikipedia.org...
...preyed upon by mammals, birds and other reptiles.
  12:23am rich:

kfh it's a real kraft to make that kind of quilt
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23am chresti:

Goodnight Wendy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24am Handy Haversack:

@mariano: the world and game are a published product, a fairly successful little indie company. Well, one dude. He put a bunch of magic items that I wrote and a couple of monsters into the second printing.

I think my take on the setting is likely a little too weird for him to publish adventures I write -- but I could also get off my ass and give it a whirl! Dozens of dollars could be at stake!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24am mariano:

Holy shit, coela: my whole life I never knew there was an actual animal called a basilisk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25am Mr. Pumpy:

@par...I get all that to a large degree, but what isn't made up? I know that sound like existential claptrap, but I still pose the question. Especially while being sequestered. The reality I have is often willed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25am mariano:

What's the company, if you don't mind my asking, Handy?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26am Mr. Pumpy:

@Handy...solid. I'm down for Sunday. Please and thank you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26am coelacanth∅:

mariano, my whole life i never knew there was a fictitious animal called the basilisk!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27am Mr. Pumpy:

I love how insanely active the accu is these days. While I know I am missing so much, It is warming my heart that I can't keep up. Peace and love and WoofMoo!
  12:29am rich:

so i'll be dropping in some stuck at home things to do during the show:
nyc-noise.com
van-us.atavist.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29am coelacanth∅:

yeah it's fast-paced!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30am Mr. Pumpy:

@Ken...I would think Wendy is more likely snuggled under a duvet stuffed full of the finest and stankiest pecorino romano. We can speculate...it may even be a velveta quilt!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30am mariano:

What a coinky-dink, coela! The Accu's been a lot of fun lately indeed, Mr. P, like a party that still carries on after you've gone to sleep and is there when you wake up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30am coelacanth∅:

...oh and Mr.P no not the same CC (in case you didn't get an answer, which i don't know!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32am Handy Haversack:

(Found that cat poop I was worried about earlier BTW: conveniently placed right by the fridge! Everything sounded great while I was dealing with it -- reception on the hardest working boombox in the world was good in the bathroom!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35am Handy Haversack:

@mariano: North Wind Adventures: hyperborea.tv .

I always think of the real basilisk as the Jesus lizard and every time am like, oh, right, it's also a *basilisk*! Some animals get all the breaks!

Ain't gonna get 'em past that fence, though.
  12:35am rich:

handy don't know if you know about this label but it showed up on boing boing earlier today:
boingboing.net...
Avatar 12:37am Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

AccU would be nothing without U.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38am Handy Haversack:

Whoa, Rich! I don't see how I can NOT check it out, even if I can't do anything with it! I think I even have a €5 note kicking around here someplace ...

Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38am Mr. Pumpy:

@mariano...basilisk. And to think I used to like you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38am mariano:

Woah, that looks cool AF, rich! Memories of high school, getting baked, playing D&D, listening to death metal or Wagner. Thanks for the link Handy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39am Mr. Pumpy:

Coel too... dang...wait, I think I am the one who has a problem now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39am daupomatic:

Hyperborea at a glance looks a little like a D&D blend with Call of
Cthulhu.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40am mariano:

Wait, what now Mr. P? Basilisk? Look at it this way: coela and I had a full set of facts between us.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42am coelacanth∅:

what gets me is why did they name a fairly small, relatively harmless lizard after such a mythological one. it's not even scary looking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42am Mr. Pumpy:

Yes mariano...a tru party wherein you are like, "Fuck, I forgot to ask Handy about that theme band that revolved around margarine and supercolliders." or feeling remiss in not sharing your new idea for a car wash that serves haggis.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42am Handy Haversack:

There are a lot of metal dudes who play this game. I keep trying to get them to listen to Keilidh's show.

Mr. P, for the record, none of us have forgotten about you and Winamp!

@daupomatic, yeah, kind of! It's like D&D with all the Tolkein taken out and filled instead with Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith, Robert E. Howard, and (the way I do it) James George Frazer and Edith Hamilton.

LOTS of Clark Ashton Smith.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42am Mr. Pumpy:

I'm still so far behind! Maybe if I zip my yapper!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43am Handy Haversack:

Mr. P, you mean OLEOLIGO? Oh, shit, some of their x-ray releases are amazing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43am mariano:

I love it when the names of modules and of death metal songs/albums could be one in the same: Charnel Crypt of the Sightless Serpent, Forgotten Fane of the Coiled Goddess...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43am Scott Williams:

Sooooo into your show to this point, Rich! I am your board-op, btw
  12:43am rich:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44am Mr. Pumpy:

@Coel...thanks on the CC thang. You are a great help. The approach and cadence did not match, but one never knows.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44am coelacanth∅:

i thought it was miller time, Scott
  12:44am rich:

thanks scott, smk told me it was daisy, i even sent her the show. she will be thanked in the mic break, sorry about that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44am Handy Haversack:

@mariano: I have T-shirts for all those modules. All are like that two-pound Iron Maiden - quality cotton that just is made to soak up waaaaaaaay too much sweat!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45am mariano:

Didn't TSR get into trouble with whoever owned Lovecraft's copyrights when they included the Cthulhu pantheon in Deities & Demigods or the Monster Manual? I know the Tolkien estate made them quit using the word hobbit, thus halfling.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45am coelacanth∅:

haha yes Mr. P, *very* different creatures!
  12:45am rich:

all hail scott williams everybody
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46am chresti:

Hail Scott Williams!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46am mariano:

All hail Scott!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46am coelacanth∅:

Thanks again Scott! and Thanks for the other times, Daisy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46am Handy Haversack:

Scott, this board is OPPED! Way to go!

Yeah, mariano -- there was a whole thing. It was actually mainly the Melnibonean mythos from Moorcock's book that caused the kerfuffle. Those first couple of printings of Deities and Demigods go for a pretty penny.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46am mariano:

All hail Scott, Harbinger of Cthulhu!

Too much?
  12:46am rich:

lots of clark ashton smith sounds great you should throw some lord dunsany in there too
  12:47am Websie:

I haven't seen ALTERED STATES in 40 years, I should look if it's streaming somewhere.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47am Mr. Pumpy:

Some animals have all the luck
Some animals have all the pain
Some animals get all the breaks
Like the basilisk which has nothing but pure gain
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47am Handy Haversack:

Scott Williams? Opener of gates? The way between? Nyarlarthotep Williams?

Nah, you're good, mariano.

Hail him!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47am Mr. Pumpy:

Amazing song. This is what Buckaroo Bonsai @ would have sounded like.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47am mariano:

Oh that's right, the Melnibonean mythos too. TSR sure poached a lot of stuff, lol.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48am Mr. Pumpy:

Death metal Or Wagner? How do you parse these two?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48am Ken From Hyde Park:

Poor Skeleton Manager Ken is so out of it, he OKs a show format consisting of three hours of a single Bob Dylan song. Thanks for your consecutive show services, Scott.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49am mariano:

Websie: Altered States is definitely worth a rewatch. Mr. Pumpy: we were stoned teenagers, that's how ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49am Handy Haversack:

@rich! YEAH! I do try to get some Dunsanian echoes in my game! I like weird things to be WEIRD and nonhuman stuff to be hard to comprehend. Different agendas.

Dunsany was a huge influence on Lovecraft, of course.

Also a big Arthur Machen fan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51am Handy Haversack:

But Clark Ashton Smith is really wonderful. I go back to him all the time. His paintings and sculpture are pretty great, too, I think.
  12:51am rich:

websie parts of it probably hold up pretty well depends on how much you like william hurt i think
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51am Mr. Pumpy:

@mariano..I'm way behind, becuase I'm a minuteau man today, but the basilisk thing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51am Mr. Pumpy:

Should we do a MADLIB?
Avatar 12:52am Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

What's this about Winamp? My lifeline. Used it to make this sound collage that sampled Altered States: wfmu.org... or this one with Buckaroo Bonzai music wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52am daupomatic:

I bought three volumes of Machen at Providence NecronomiCon - this is my opportunity to dive in!
  12:53am rich:

his paintings and sculpture are nice and stories are great not so sure about the poetry though it is incredible how much poetry he wrote
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53am daupomatic:

Altered States is not my favorite Cronenberg, but you can't go wrong, really.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54am Handy Haversack:

Oooo, nice, @daupomatic! If you like it, I really recommend joining the Friends of Arthur Machen Society. They send out a newsletter, a journal, AND a book! Really nice people, too.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55am Mr. Pumpy:

@Handy, I just laughed the fuck out loud about that Winamp comment! And that's with me trying to keep to a dull roar with pops sleeping down the hall and refusing to close the door. That is funny shit. I don't use Winamp (not in two decades) , my reaction earlier was facetious, mayhaps your reply was as well. Either way, thanks for the laugh! Beyond that, if it was sincere...it was highly considerate. Thanks again!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30am Mr. Pumpy:

mariano, coel, handy...you cats still around these parts?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33am Handy Haversack:

Two guys from my work have gotten sick. One is just about recovered. Sounds like the other is having a harder time, which, you know, just sucks.

No like first- or even second-circle friends (or fam) has been sick, though a few people think they *might* have been. Everyone is guessing about a lot of things.

Swings and roundabouts. Strikes and gutters. Every day has a lot of different weirdnesses. I am working from home. Job seems stable for now. Kate has lost 2/3 of her jobs, and the rest is doubtful since it doesn't look like schools are going back.

So, like everyone, everything is weird.

One thing that really freaks me out is friends writing from out of state just breathlessly, "Are you all OK? It sounds like a NIGHTMARE!" I try to assure people that the hospitals must be, and our health workers are really taking it on the chin but that our quarantine experiences must be pretty much like theirs, just more on foot. Like our lives.

I think the news must be making NYC look pretty nightmarish, but I get all of my news from the accu and Salvage, so I am a bad judge.

I found this helpful and sane seeming. Listener Brian with a Beta B shared it: www.chronicle.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36am mariano:

So far everyone I know is fine, Mr. Pumpy. Just spoke to my uncle earlier, he works at University hospital, which is the front line here in New Orleans. He said that a few days a go, they were taking 12-14 bodies out every day. However, in the last 2-3 days, he says it's been 2-3 bodies, which he says is more or less normal (well, "normal").

Now, that's of course pure anecdata, but maybe it's a hopeful sign that confinement has started to work. There was a huge spike today in Louisiana, jumped to over 10,000 cases from (I think) somewhere in the 3-4,000 range. But part of the spike was expected, as the results of tests administered weeks ago start to come in. I guess we'll see either way.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39am daupomatic:

I got strep - so I did shelter at home, but I never developed much a fever - it was a minor stressor. But it turns out strep can give you psoriasis!

I'm also getting anxious messages from all over, but so far mostly people in my world only really have money anxiety.

@Handy, what's your poison tonight?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40am Handy Haversack:

One thing goes wrong -- a thing that needs a doctor or a hospital or just a job that can be trusted, and we're no longer just normal screwed. We're tapping whole new vintages of screwed.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50am Handy Haversack:

Everyone in NYC has a slight, dry cough, it seems. Thanks, trees. I always knew you hated us
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51am Mr. Pumpy:

Handy, thanks for sharing. It helps me personally to hear form people I know, and what they are going through. I'm guessing Kate is freelance, or some form thereof.

I've had some friends of my pop and such. Some parents of both fellow teachers and our students have fallen victim. It is rough out there.

My only close situation to my knowledge is trumpeter Wallace Roney. Through certain circumstances I came to learn he lived in my town a few years ago, and we hit it off. I was in the beginning stages of helping him write his bio. That's small beans though considering he died. He had given me his number years ago and was into putting the book together. It's yet another reminder that one shouldn't assume there will be time for this and that later.

Even the seemingly simple shit has no guarantees. Wallace went nowhere without his horn, and I am well aware why. No matter where we were he would have it in this ratty case with a broken zipper. I threatened to fix that zipper many times, alas never did it in time. What I liked about him, as I do about many, is that he had a somewhat singular vision...gigging and blowing his horn. Anyhow, I don't pretend we were like brothers or anything, but I got to know him and would call him up and grab a bite here and there as he regaled me with insane stories of the jazz world...and other things.

So...I sit here, pops fragile as well, my best bud's mom in lockdown at 84 because she lives in a 65 and over joint that got infected. She is also a great friend of mine. Silver lining of it all, I can be with my dad who we know had issues since Xmas.

I'm a few deep and babbling, but I want to finish by saying I appreciate getting to know some of you cats within the past 6 months...and it is a benefit now more than ever.

Peace and love, baby!

Damn...this Beam and Coke is going down proper...

@Handy...teaching art and they won't even put her on staff. That's some bullshit right there. I'm in the NJ system. I teach English, only for a decade now, I started late. Honestly, I thought about bailing the past couple of years...for myriad reasons. However, this whole experience has made me yearn for it more than ever. I hope that a lot of the BS which has fell by the wayside as we teach from home, stays out of the picture when we go back (like the mandate of having to wear pants...and the suggested bathing!). Much respect to Kate...I'm going to spin that record tomorrow when I set the proper time aside. Please know, living with my pop is a challenge as far as putting 45 mins together uninterrupted. I don't know what Kate H's situation is like at all, but the reason I had plenty work in public schools in NYC is because so few of them had art teachers at all. Art is merely bonus "enrichment," not part of education. Makes me sick, honestly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19am Handy Haversack:

maiano, is NOLA on Central Time? Now I can't remember. Not that it matters -- you clearly never sleep. I assume there's like a belfry or garret and some sort of refreshing brooding hour at some point?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21am Mr. Pumpy:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21am Handy Haversack:

Yeah, the NYC schools cut all arts in the seventies and eighties, and these nonprofit arts-in-ed companies came about to fill the void and give artists hard, low-paying, fulfilling work that won't ever protect them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24am daupomatic:

I left my arts-in-ed company because i moved a way for a few years. I couldn't go back to them when I returned, because i hated their business model (and the founders) too much.

He may walk out here any minute for some water or something, and it ain't no thang...or at least I'll treat it as such. Still, a bit of an adjustment from living alone across town. Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38am Mr. Pumpy:

@Granny...you are welcome, but I'm not sure what you are thanking me for!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38am Handy Haversack:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38am coelacanth∅:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41am Handy Haversack:

Four of those six make up most of my internet traffic, especially now that there are no sports, coela. And I always approve of good security protocols.

That said, I do miss baseball.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43am Mr. Pumpy:

mariano...I don't know if they like as much as can't help it. My father has a twisted look on his face during those transactions. But hey, I'm on this side of it, so what the hell do I know?! We both know this, age does not matter. One can be sixty and still be subject to the same parental pronouncement. I get that though. I am wise enough to let it go. Although sometimes he seems to be looking for a fight and that gets a greater rise. Bring it, pops!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44am Mr. Pumpy:

Killer! That was like a Chinese Fahey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44am Mr. Pumpy:

Joe B dropping in! Hey there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47am Mr. Pumpy:

Is anyone else plucking nose hairs right now? I only ask because, while it is most likely out of solitude and all, perhaps there are subliminal messages within Sungguh Terpaksa. Ouch! Hurts so good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48am Handy Haversack:

Well, shave and a haircut, two bits, Mr. P.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48am daupomatic:

I did just trim an irksome mustache hair, but I used scissors.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50am mariano:

I have one of those 'stache trimmer things, great for general grooming.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50am Mr. Pumpy:

Handy...as long as you're offering. I hope you have some lengthy shears.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51am Mr. Pumpy:

mariano...me too, but sometimes the pain is part of the pleasure. I don't think I need to expand upon that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52am Handy Haversack:

Ha, hell yeah. So glad I commissioned those Hudson River scissors!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52am daupomatic:

@coela: If you aren't already familiar, Maangchi has a YT piece on homemade veggie kimchi that seems totally fail-safe and tasty.

I must crawl off, good people. Thanks to all for hours of good company, sonic and otherwise.

Remain indoors!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53am mariano:

Oh wow, is this track from Latcho Drom the film? Great documentary about Roma music, starts in India and winds up in Spain with several stops along the way.

@mariano:

Apparatus of the Dark Kimmerians: These apparatuses serve the subterranean Kimmerians in the exploration of their dangerous, dark realm. A harness clings to the wearer’s shoulders, supporting a tight-fitting metal and leather helm in the shape of a horse’s head. Held by a stiff mane on top of the helm is a small cage in which a genetically altered songbird is wired in place, fed and watered by tubes that pierce its breast. These birds are essentially immortal as long as the apparatus functions and they meet no fouler end. The birds’ feathers house symbiotic algae that glow with a strong but ghastly green radiance, providing effective light in a 20' radius. These algae completely protect the birds from extremes of heat and cold, excluding magical effects. If exposed to toxic gases, the tiny creature dies. but this triggers the apparatus to clamp shut its horselike jaws. The wearer will be able to breathe stale, recycled air for a full day cycle before needing to replenish the apparatus’s stores. The Guild of the Pierced Breast in Krimmea can replace the bird and restore the apparatus to full functionality.
