Listener comments!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02am Mr. Pumpy:

Allow me to deflower this accu...hello Nick!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02am Stevel:

Thank you as well, Nick! It is a great comfort having you all here. Peace.
  12:03am BH:

rub-a-dub-dub, Nick
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03am mariano:

Hey Nick, everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03am Phillippe Bastille:

Howdy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03am Phillippe Bastille:

hey Mariano
  12:03am MONEYBAG$:

It’s really weird to hear something that is not that Dylan song now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04am coelacanth∅:

hello Nick and everyone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04am mariano:

Hey Phillippe, whats up!
  12:05am Crudmobile:

Are you sure this isn't Dylan? It sounds like Dylan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05am Ken From Hyde Park:

Wolfman, wolfman, rub-a-dub. That's about all I remember from the show just finished.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06am Phillippe Bastille:

@Mariano me, somehow. Hey coel
  12:07am opurt:

3 hours of Paul Dresher with a dash of chimpanzees?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07am mariano:

Some of us have just been through a 3-hour psychological experiment courtesy of Dave the Spazz, for those of you who weren't tuned in.
  12:08am P-90:

Nice track. It isn’t Bob Dylan, but then what is?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09am Phillippe Bastille:

I was wondering. I just spent 3 hours of watching programming written by Andy Breckman so I'm as equally befuddled
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09am mariano:

I think it technically makes us all OT-9 in Scientology.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09am Scott Williams:

Goddamn, you do know how to start a radio show, Nick! Killer, this.
Swag For Life Member 12:09am Nick Name:

hello all - hope you are all well
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Scott Williams: ^^^ yeahhhh
  12:10am ron-ji:

Play us some Dresher,
Play us Light Moves
Play us some Seger
Play us Night Moves
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

i had to run away from Dave the Spazz
Swag For Life Member 12:11am Nick Name:

scott - thx for you and everyone for keeping the skeleton crew / good ship running
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12am Phillippe Bastille:

It's Friday now on the US east coast, just in case anyone out there is bothering to keep track of that kind of crap anymore
  12:13am Jim H:

Wait is this Dylan too?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Phillippe Bastille: I'm not there yet
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14am Phillippe Bastille:

@Granny Give it time, give it time...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Phillippe Bastille: i'm giving it 2 hours and 45 minutes and then i'm done
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14am coelacanth∅:

weird...on Evan's show (explorers room) he played "wash mama wash" by Dr, John and a track by R.L. Hubbard; so both scientology and the idea of "bustin' some suds" were discussed on the comments board.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

what's the frequency coelacanth∅?
  12:16am Jim H:

Plague fiddle, yes?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17am Phillippe Bastille:

Granny I'd give it just a few minutes more, just to be safe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18am coelacanth∅:

haha hey Granny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18am spodiodi:

aloha, Nick Name, and thanks for the show. hi again listn0rz
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18am coelacanth∅:

hey Phillippe!
Swag For Life Member 12:18am Nick Name:

@Jim H : yes, spread by a lover who shouldn't of been visiting and instead using social distancing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19am Rory:

meow
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20am Rory:

Sit back, zone out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21am coelacanth∅:

sometimes i wish i still had terrible sleep issues and could hear Stan every thusday-friday like i used to.
it is kind of getting back to that point though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22am spodiodi:

coel, Stan is some of my favorite sleep fmu
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22am spodiodi:

Stan and Wm. Berger got me through some hard nights
Swag For Life Member 12:24am Nick Name:

Stan says hello right now to you, via me (earlier on the phone today) he wishes you all well
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25am spodiodi:

cool, thanks, Nick! thanks, Stan -- same back to you both, and everybody!
Swag For Life Member 12:26am Nick Name:

thankyou spodiodi
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27am coelacanth∅:

for sure spodi. his voice is soothing too!
...the only problem is that his show must be the beginning of his day, whereas it's the end of mine. he usually starts fairly mellow, veers into deep space then in the last hour gets all crazy! exactly the opposite of what i'd do with a 3-6 slot.
back in the day though i'd nearly fall asleep for the majority of his show then turn it off in time and crash.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28am coelacanth∅:

Nick -wishing well-wishes right back at Stan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29am spodiodi:

i hear you; agreed on the order. end up repeating the first third quite a bit (at least while sleeping)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29am TomDash:

Hey there Nick Name - enjoying the late night expansions as I decompress before bed...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31am mariano:

I used to love when Liz Berg had a 9-12 show and the first hour would be super-mellow, abstract, and ambient. Great way to start the day. Then she'd go into really amazing guitar-band stuff then of course the robot music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33am coelacanth∅:

spodi my biggest problem was for several years mid-late 90s. no internet, no archives. i was so Thankful when thursday rolled around because i knew i'd have a better than usual chance of getting some sleep, thanks to Stan.
i forget who else was on in the middle of the night then...some other good ones for sure -maybe Daniel Blumin?
but Stan stands out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33am coelacanth∅:

(and i Love Blumin, lest i be misunderstood)
  12:37am Jim H:

Wow. Horse Lords almost made me forget about JFK. Totally new to me. Great set Nick. Thx
  12:46am zenkoan:

One awesome thing after another in this set. Freeform sets us free, even when we're locked inside
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47am Rory:

Skeleton crew and DJ’s holding down the fort of free form, carrying the torch of brightness in these dark times! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47am mariano:

Well hell, if it's gonna be that kind of a show, I'ma pack me another bowl.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49am mariano:

Full disclosure: I knew just what kind of a bowl-packing show it would be ;)
Avatar 12:51am ToTetsu:

A packed bowl of milky corn flakes?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52am mariano:

Ooh, good idea! Wait, no cereal :(
  12:53am Jim H:

Would that be ramen? Packed with miso umami goodness?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54am mariano:

Yes, we have no ramen. Good ideas for my shopping list though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54am coelacanth∅:

a bowl of cookies? special cookies?
  12:55am spodiodi:

coelacanth∅, that's cool you were able to listen then. i think i ran into wfmu in 99... but 2013 stands out for me for sleeping w headphones in bed. was crushed when i had to dump some favorite downloaded saves on my nuissancePhone recently. still put the phone under the pillow sometimes these days
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56am coelacanth∅:

ramen has been hard to come by where i normally buy it. i think i got the last pack 2 weeks ago
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56am coelacanth∅:

(but then, i only will buy one brand, one flavor)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57am spodiodi:

my friend used to make "beer cookies" for his dog (young and stupid; high school; dogs made it, despite Ed) beer cookies were served in a bowl
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58am spodiodi:

and i should say dogs. or lhasa apsos anyway (j/k apsos)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59am mariano:

Special cookies would be nice, coela. Wait, spodiodi: is "nuisancephone" the Simpsons reference I think it might be?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00am spodiodi:

yes sir, mariano - oft referred to as such in spodiland
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00am spodiodi:

das is NICHT eine boobie, btw
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01am Phillippe Bastille:

good night, my friends. Thank you Mr. Name and the skeleton crew
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01am coelacanth∅:

spodi (i've lamented this before) the laptop fmu site doesn't have an option to download a show
...sorry you had to dump what you had though. 'woulda bummed me out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01am spodiodi:

ist*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01am spodiodi:

night, Phillippe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02am mariano:

Hah! I love that one, spodiodi. 'Night Phillippe, take care!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02am coelacanth∅:

gnight Phillippe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02am spodiodi:

Abe <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04am spodiodi:

at least we can still get what we need in a the phone's browser in a pinch, battery be damned (i think?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07am spodiodi:

really pleasant sounds, Nick
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13am coelacanth∅:

spodi i might be mistaken, but regarding the other overnight show hosts in the late 90s i think it might've been Bryce &/or Rich Hazelton &/or Dan Bodah & (def) Cozmic Cowboy & (def) Bethany ("stochastic hit parade" -not "A440". with 3 hours she explored a lot and her show included far more than classical music. i used to call her at the station) ...Tamar? &/or Clay (the other Clay)...Pat Duncan was at midnight, before Stan. i remember that; and the transition wasn't as difficult as one might imagine!
...anyway point is: Fucking Stellar overnight line-up! (even if i'm mistaken about a couple)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15am coelacanth∅:

...(Stellar, though not necessarily conducive to sleep!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20am mb:

This is my first God Speed experience. Now i understand the hype.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20am spodiodi:

very cool, coelacanth∅ -- i didn't know some of those DJs were around back then. i began listening during the day at work, with Diane's Kamikaze Fun Machine, and Joe Belock having been a couple of my first favorites at the time. stellar for sure
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21am Scott Williams:

That God Speed was killer, this lovely 'trane working incredibly well too
  1:21am BEAVO:

Glad your here Nick stay safe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27am coelacanth∅:

haha i might be mixing shit up, as far as what nights and what years ...i still had sleep problems into the 00s.
...Diane was on at night in the 90s, and goes back long before that... and by 2000, at least, Fabio, gateway to joy and inner ear detour
...and our illustrious Scott Williams! (if i recall correctly)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29am coelacanth∅:

(i mean about being on at night)
Swag For Life Member 1:30am Nick Name:

agreed coelacanth∅ - Hail Scott W
Swag For Life Member 1:30am Nick Name:

hello , likewise BEAVO
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33am Scott Williams:

@coel, I was late-nite from '97-'99 or '00, others at that hour in those days: yep, Bryce, Belock, Joe Gaer, Bill Zebub, Maryann, Eva, ummm.... there's a lot I'm missing. I recall Donna B being afternoon in those days, Diane too? Fabio's been on Thursday forever, he was on Sunday nights before that. Stan and Rich have likewise held down their general area forever
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36am Scott Williams:

Bethany, Suisman, Bodah, Cosmic Cowboy - I think of them as the "Class of '43 (Monty)" - pretty sure they all started once we'd moved here. Also Mosurock, Hatch, and of course Mike Lupica!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38am spodiodi:

Irwin and Fabio were some others of mine that followed after those two. i think Diane was the first interaction i had with a person at/through the station, via email. i haven't done as much night time listening regularly, but have enjoyed most of those you listed here and there a good bit, if not all at night/then (present company included -- thank you gain, Nick, and Scott!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38am coelacanth∅:

wow, i don't want to say which but i don't at all remember 2 of those names.
i remember Stan being moved to monday for a minute, following Donna. threw my whole cricadian rhythm out of whack!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40am coelacanth∅:

(circadian)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40am spodiodi:

all of the night time shows make for great driving music too -- i associate them all with road trips
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41am mb:

Hi Scott Williams. Thanks for holding it down!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42am Scott Williams:

My pleasure, mb - thanks for the hat-tip
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43am coelacanth∅:

Diane had a weekend evening at some point, but i could be way off as far as what years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44am coelacanth∅:

it's much easier to know the schedule(s) now than then. i got the lcd for a few years but never memorized it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44am Scott Williams:

More than once, I've found myself driving a friend to the airport while Stan is on, and it's just perfect. Stan has a very definite arc not just in the progression of his show, but also on his mic breaks - they are utterly engrossing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45am coelacanth∅:

agreed.
Swag For Life Member 1:45am Nick Name:

yes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45am spodiodi:

i love his voice and manner, etc
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46am Scott Williams:

folks like Diane, Fabio, Donna - they've been here since the 80s, so they've been all over the schedule at some point or another
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46am spodiodi:

"This is Stan. How ya doin?" is music to the ears
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47am Ken From Hyde Park:

Love Stan. It's nice that someone curates his playlist. Seems every week, someone is asking what is being played. At least they can check the archive later and see it.
Swag For Life Member 1:47am Nick Name:

great spodiodi
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49am coelacanth∅:

haha, and then Irwin has pretty much stuck to the same time slot for ...over 4 decades?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50am coelacanth∅:

...or did he move around a little too at some point
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53am Scott Williams:

I'm sure Ol' Pal Irwin moved around a bit back when, but he's been somewhere between Ken and SSD as long as I can remember - sometimes with Michelle Boule (RIP), sometimes followed by Bob Brainen
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55am spodiodi:

SSD worked it's way into my heart next... like a worm
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56am coelacanth∅:

was it Michelle who did the incorrect music with him? (please forgive me if i'm mixing something up)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00am mariano:

How about Terre T - she goes pretty far back, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02am coelacanth∅:

mariano i'm sure at least to the 90s, yeh
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03am coelacanth∅:

...another one i miss. so many.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04am coelacanth∅:

Wm. Berger went way back too. and Jim Price -wayyy back!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06am Scott Williams:

Michelle was Incorrect Music, yes. Terre T I think goes back to early 90s. She was already a star when I got here, in 96. Did she follow, or precede Jeff Cobb?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08am Scott Williams:

Jim Price, way back to mid-70s. Wm Berger, I think early 80s.
  2:12am Anita:

Hi all, hope you're safe and sound! Enjoying the show so far...thanks Nick and Scott.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13am coelacanth∅:

Maria Levitsky? or was she post-2000?
...sorry! i could reminisce (and test my memory) for hours! i'm a geek.
i need sleep soon though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13am Scott Williams:

When I got here, I remember thinking the superstars (aside from Jones and Hound) were: Gaylord Fields, Michael Shelley, Laura Cantrell, Hova & Belinda, Jeffrey Cobb, Terre T - ie, the seniors when I was a freshman, all early 90s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13am spodiodi:

Barron Mordant yeah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15am coelacanth∅:

i used to love Glenn Jones' interview show. -Excellent interviewer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16am Scott Williams:

Maria Levitsky was my 1st favorite DJ! 1995: driving to a class on Friday afternoons, listening to her show and thinking how cool she was. Called herself a dilettante on-air! I miss Maria so much, too rarely does she visit the area now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19am coelacanth∅:

cool. i listened to her pretty regularly, got her "you rang" premium and jacked her bed loop for a sound collage!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21am Scott Williams:

Yeah, Jones doesn't interview people, he finds people he has a genuine interest in and has a conversation with them, with tape rolling. Sometimes they're dicks (RAY MANZAREK), but usually they're really cool, because... well, because JONESY!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23am coelacanth∅:

haha! ...and perfect description.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28am coelacanth∅:

Scott aside from keeping the wheels turning at the station Thank you also for indulging us (me? -i don't know if everyone else fell asleep) with wfmu history.

i need sleep.
Thanks Nick! Brilliant program as always!
good night spodiodi, mariano and all
take care everyone stay strong
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29am Scott Williams:

G'night coel!
  2:31am Syl:

Excuse me, could anyone tell me who the lovely piano and male voice piece was, earlier in this set? Was it Ian Wm Craig?
Swag For Life Member 2:31am Nick Name:

yes that was some good WFMU knowledge from Scott, thx coelacanth∅ - have a good weekend
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32am Ken From Hyde Park:

Catch you later, coel. I hope you score some ramen the next time you're out.
Swag For Life Member 2:33am Nick Name:

Hello Syl - yes Ian William Craig, from Canada on the 130701 imprint, an offshoot of Fat Cat Records
  2:34am Syl:

Thank you, Nick!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40am Hugo (NL):

Goodmorning everyone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40am spodiodi:

late goodnight, coelacanth!
Swag For Life Member 2:44am Nick Name:

Syl: you are welcome!
Swag For Life Member 2:45am Nick Name:

Morning Hugo (NL)
  2:50am Anita:

Hey sorry to briefly interrupt the WFMU chat, but has anyone had any luck ordering toilet paper online at someplace other than Amazon? I went to local stores today and all the shelves were bare, checked a couple of local restaurants that have been delivering tp along with food and they were all out, and now can't find anything online! If you have any tips, please let me know. Thanks...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52am mb:

Great show. Thanks for the oral history Scott. WFMU #1
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55am mariano:

Night coela, though I'm probably way too late. Thanks so much Nick and Scott, y'all stay safe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56am mariano:

Anita: Sorry, couldn't tell you. Tried the usual spots like Walmart, Target, etc?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56am Hugo (NL):

what a great piece this is!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56am Ken From Hyde Park:

These guys mention Staples & Target, but who knows if they're in stock anymore? www.businessinsider.com...
Thanks, Nick & Scott. See you for the Bluminifillin.
Swag For Life Member 2:56am Nick Name:

likewise mariano, have a good weekend
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58am spodiodi:

thanks, Nick and Scott!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58am spodiodi:

extra thanks on the history, as mb said
  2:58am Anita:

Yep, no luck...every place is out of stock now until at least Saturday. I can wait. Thanks anyway! Yeah, love this Paul Dresher piano duo by Edmund Niemann & Nurit Tilles (just looked it up on Discogs...I'd rather read about music than tp haha). Thanks Nick & Scott!
Swag For Life Member 2:59am Nick Name:

Thx Ken From Hyde Park / spodiodi have a good weekend
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59am Scott Williams:

Thanks Nick! Another great show. Good night everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59am spodiodi:

The Internet Did It was great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00am spodiodi:

good night all
  3:00am Syl:

Loved all the transitions and juxtapositions of your show tonight, Nick. Just beautiful
Swag For Life Member 3:00am Nick Name:

thx Anita - good luck with the bog roll hunt
Swag For Life Member 3:01am Nick Name:
