Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hope you're all up and having a bop about :-)
Avatar 4:03pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

Hey GG & listeners! No other way to start this really, isn't this considered the first brit r&r song?
  4:03pm ?:

Helloooooooooo!!!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hello Photocopy!!! Certainly one of the first of the British ones from our very own British Elvis :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I see a question mark there ;-)
  4:04pm Rob:

that was my Hello ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm chresti:

Lol!!! Hello there Rob :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Go Ann-Margret! Go! Groovy! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I tried to find a cleaner copy, but to no avail so I think it's the recording itself
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I've installed a frothy coffee machine in the Jungle Room and we also have a Coca-Cola dispenser :-)
Avatar 4:07pm StringOFperils:

We're going dancing ?? Aww, I don't have a thing to wear....and you are definitely NOT getting that picture.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hi StringOFperils!!! Lovely to see you the other night! :-D
Avatar 4:08pm StringOFperils:

aww shucks
Avatar 4:08pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@4:06 DJ GeorgyGirl: is this a sw radio off-air recording? sounds like.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Lotis Blossom F. Odder:

Playing hopscotch from one chat to another. Hello all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Photocopy - not sure - all the info seemed to indicate live so maybe a session?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I spot an Otis! Hello! :-)
Avatar 4:10pm StringOFperils:

Better even than Joe Strummer. wooo hoooo
  4:10pm Elizabeth:

Hello Georgy and everyone!
Avatar 4:10pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@4:09 DJ GeorgyGirl: the signal waas "disappearing" and coming back, like sw. Some of the Beatles early BBC stuff survived by off-air sw recordings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hello Elizabeth!!! :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Photocopy - aha! That makes sense :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm Lotis Blossom F. Odder:

'tis I, posing as a flower.. like in the Bonzo song, Quiet walks...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@StringOFperils - I do prefer this one I have to admit :-)
Avatar 4:11pm StringOFperils:

some punk grammar there SOP
Avatar 4:11pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

The Renegades' version of Cadillac was a huge hit in Finland in 60s. They were from Birmingham but considered "Finnish" as their career was here really.
Avatar 4:12pm Franco Twinkie:

Dance party? Why the hell not!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Photocopy - I shall have to look for that! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Franco!! Hey there! :-D
Avatar 4:12pm Martinibomb:

your set is soooooo GOOOOOD
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Martinibomb!!! Hello!! :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm ParUbi:

This is very cheering
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@ParUbi - excellent!!! Glad I can do that :-)
Avatar 4:14pm spodiodi:

yeah chresti, i had to steal the cat from Jan's playlist (look at it go! :D )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

OK, i posted a wild dancing picture on Instagram, tagged you and WFMU. FUN!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Granny - you are a STAR!! :-D
Avatar 4:16pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@4:12 DJ GeorgyGirl: whaaaaat? Haven't you heard The Renegades version? It is titled simply Cadillac. Much slower, and more loud-quiet tension/dynamics. Their version of 13 women KILLS. They really were "our own" Beatles in terms of teenage hysteria
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Photocopy - the name is familiar ... no doubt I'll find it on my hard drive and realise I *do* know them ;-)
Avatar 4:19pm Martinibomb:

Is it the same song? I know that Renegades one I gotta co compare now..
Avatar 4:19pm spodiodi:

i could use some nibbley bits!
Avatar 4:19pm Martinibomb:

tho that Renegades song is very cool! I just never connected it with brand new cadillac as the same song?
Avatar 4:19pm spodiodi:

haha go nan
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@spodiodi - there should be a cheese and pineapple arrangement on the table in the corner :-)
Avatar 4:20pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@4:19 Martinibomb: yes, just very different, slower tempo and jumps between quiet and loud.
Avatar 4:20pm Martinibomb:

yeh! you are right, gah I've heard that song and never really connected it hahah hilarious
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I used to work in an American style 50s diner in Brighton and this was on the jukebox ... except we used to sing "Why must I be a keen raver on drugs?" LOL! ;-)
Avatar 4:21pm Martinibomb:

It feels so different! I'm not really a lyrics person so I never noticed they were the same
  4:22pm Blony Tackburn:

The only thing my nan was shaking in front of everyone was the large cheque she got from my uncle every Christmas Day.
Avatar 4:23pm spodiodi:

dancing with all this pineapple is a trick!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@spodiodi - juggle! :-)
  4:23pm CC:

Hey GeorgyGirl and all..!.. hope all is well with everyone... maybe that tornadoes cut was a recording from one of your pirate radio stations offshore???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hello CC!!! Also lovely to see you the other night! :-)
Avatar 4:25pm StringOFperils:

reminded me of Andy Stewart's 'Johnny Where's Yur Troooozers?' for a bit there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Where's Yer Troosers!!! There's a blast from the past! :-)
  4:27pm Blony Tackburn:

Thank Crunchie it's Covid
Avatar 4:29pm Franco Twinkie:

Did that guy just say "Tiny glucose bubbles covered in chocolate"?
  4:29pm Blony Tackburn:

honeycomb
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Franco - yep. Sounds terribly unappetising but it's delicious in reality :-)
Avatar 4:30pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@4:23 CC: re: pirate radio, it is wonderful some of John Peel's The Perfumed Garden shows (Radio London) were captured as private off-air recordings for posterity.
Avatar 4:30pm Mr Fab:

Totally fun, crazy show today, GG. And great to hear a cover of my San Fernando Valley homeboy Ritchie Valens there, on "C'Mon on let's go." (My grandmother is buried in the same cemetery is Richie!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hello Mr Fab!!! :-D Glad you're having fun :-)
Avatar 4:32pm Franco Twinkie:

We have all kinds of crap over here that someone decided is food, but that is new one on me.
  4:32pm Blony Tackburn:

my grandfather is buried next to someone called Bert Peas
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Franco - I'm rather partial to your fabulous Cap'n Crunch :-)
Avatar 4:34pm Franco Twinkie:

Yes! Total crap.
Avatar 4:35pm StringOFperils:

Feel like I'm breaking out in 'spots'...and craving a chip butty. What the hell?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@StringOFperils - I could just go a chip butty right about now :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Rich in Washington:

Oh wow. I've heard of this but have never HEARD it!
Avatar 4:37pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

that "wah-wah" effect the Krew Kats' guitarist made was groovy, especially because there were no pedals for such things back then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Rich - I wonder what became of that backing band? ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Photocopy - it's a great record, isn;t it? :-)
Avatar 4:38pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

There is none of the "BOOM_BOOM_BOOM_BOOM" Pete Best used on almost every song as the producer took his bass drum away
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

If you listen closely you can hear Paul on the backing vocals :-)
Avatar 4:39pm StringOFperils:

Slow Down Neville. that should have been a single right there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

LOL!!
Avatar 4:40pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@4:38 DJ GeorgyGirl: quite inventive, why he thought of doing that tone control wah-wah sound is beyond me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

To the tune of "Go Down Moses" - "Slow Down Neville" ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Is everyone having a rocking good time? :-)
  4:41pm CC:

Yeah Cha Cha... I remember Lennon talking about him in some interview???
Avatar 4:41pm StringOFperils:

tapping me winkle pickers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Linda Lee:

hahahahihihi!! hoohohohooo!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm Linda Lee:

Granny!! just got your amazing card!!! thank you love! what a treat!
Avatar 4:42pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@4:41 CC: you mean Lennon talking about Peel? Peel did a long interview with John & Yoko for a show called Night Ride if I remember right...
Avatar 4:42pm Franco Twinkie:

A chip buddy is french fry sandwich, right? That does sound good. There is a place close by that does a french fry burrito. They call it a spudrito.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Listener Bob! Hello! :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Linda Lee:

'don't roll those bloodshot eyes at me' :-D
Avatar 4:47pm djcher:

Thank you everyone!
Avatar 4:47pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

welcome djCher! This song (A Picture Of You) is on one of the first (if not the first) BBC sessions Beatles made, at least the copy I have is definitively from some private off-air tape, I guess keeping a recording from some Liverpool unknowns was not the top priority of BBC back then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

The BBC wiped so many wonderful things back in the days which is so sad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm Linda Lee:

that was Beatles! really?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Your favourite seagull is in the next back announce to guide you through a hand wash :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Linda Lee - yep :-) With Pete Best on drums :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm Linda Lee:

fabulous. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

You can't beat a bit of skiffle :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm Lotis Blossom F. Odder, friend to all Seagulls:

I am ready for our weekly PSA (Public Seagull Announcement).
Avatar 4:51pm coelacanth∅:

hello GeorgyGirl and frigateers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hi coelacantho! :-D
Avatar 4:54pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@4:48 DJ GeorgyGirl: especially in 1962 The Beatles did not mean a thing to BBC, like they did not mean to Decca either ;) By the way A Picture Of You was recorded on their second BBC session June'62, with Pete Best still behind the kit (the "you're fired" drama two months ahead of him)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Photocopy - I do love that song :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

David Q Seagull there! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm Lotis Blossom F. Odder, friend to all Seagulls:

Thank you David, I will try that later this evening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

:-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm Linda Lee:

yes, chickens have feet!
Avatar 4:57pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

I have wasted so many hours of my life with the Beatles' bibles of Mark Lewisohn that I even know Ringo Starr was spending his unemployment days looking for work by wandering around in the company of a DIY chip butty - you know, he gutted a bread and threw the chips in; I mean, shouldn't the chips be baked into the bread? I have yet to taste this beauty.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

chickens, however, do NOT have lips
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Linda Lee - they have pretty gross feet ;-)
Avatar 4:58pm StringOFperils:

Passerines are birds that, like the House Sparrow, have three toes forward, one backward, e.g. when sitting on a perch, non-passerines don't. As a rule of thumb, songbirds are passerines, others are not. ... These are often called "suboscines" (where true passerines are "oscines") or also "semi-passerines".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Photocopy - bread roll split open, buttered, and then fried chips put inside, and then squished a little. Delicious :-)
Avatar 4:59pm spodiodi:

cats walk alone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Granny - chickens are not great kissers ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@StringOFperils - ah, so the fourth one is an extra grip?
Avatar 4:59pm djcher:

Leaving chat but tunes are still going strong while I put away groceries! Bye for now! Thanks GG!
Avatar 4:59pm StringOFperils:

chickens are great kissers if you're a Mason I think
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@spodiodi - cats walk you. And you have to bow before them ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

DJ GeorgyGirl: yeah, that peck on the cheek could be more than you bargained for!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@djcher - thank YOU lovely!! :-)
Avatar 5:00pm spodiodi:

i'm learning
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm Linda Lee:

they're far more gross without though.
Avatar 5:00pm StringOFperils:

yeah some birds can get a grip, and some can't....kinda like me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I am now disturbed at the thought of chickens kissing me. lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm Linda Lee:

come on now, what other song is this?
Avatar 5:01pm Mr Fab:

Dang that Walking the Dog was massive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@StringODperils - ba-doom TISH! ;-)
Avatar 5:01pm spodiodi:

i wish i wasn't thinking about the chicken lady from Kids in The Hall right now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@spodiodi - Yes!!! Oh goodness .. lol
Avatar 5:02pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@4:58 DJ GeorgyGirl: OK, for some reason I though the chips were inside the dough when baking?! I want my chip butty! NOW! fries: yes, bread rolls: sadly none here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

i'm thinking about the Egg Lady from Pink Flamingos
Avatar 5:03pm StringOFperils:

Edith Massey....ew
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I really want a chip butty now! lol
Avatar 5:03pm StringOFperils:

ha ha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

well, there was a chicken scene, too, and i do not want to think of that!!!! AY!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

You're all very naughty and I love you dearly :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

For all that Elvis was the undisputed King of rock and roll, a huge number of British artists seem to be more influenced by Buddy Holly. There's that distinctive hiccup time and again. :-)
Avatar 5:06pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

I can't have a chip butty now sadly either. I just bought 5 carton boxes of food via home delivery. It wasn't easy, no such service where I live, and of the two shops available (in nearby towns) the bigger one was fully booked until the 21.!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm Linda Lee:

oh! of course!! the song was "Mystery Train'!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

All of the deliveries from our supermarket chains are booked up until April too. It's insane.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Linda Lee - aha! yes! Well spotted :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm Linda Lee:

i've been digging it out since i asked the question! :-D
Avatar 5:09pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@5:06 DJ GeorgyGirl: another fun beatles fact mr. Lewisohn told me in his book; when Buddy Holly played Liverpool, none of them attended, but played a small private party/youth club instead (as Johnny & the Moondogs or Quarrymen, can't remember), even if the Buddy Holly tickets were not expensive - and the show was not apparently sold out. When Eddie Cochran played Liverpool, only George Harrison attended.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm Linda Lee:

_____ and the ______s? sure was aware of the convention, never thought to ask why!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

So many amazing clubs in Liverpool. Totally gutted that I couldn't do the return visit this May. Next year!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Linda Lee - I'm sure it's a big band hangover
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm Linda Lee:

not country& western?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

God, I love this song SO MUCH
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

this is a hot classic, indeed—pure rock n roll!
Avatar 5:13pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@5:11 DJ GeorgyGirl: The Who version from Live At Leeds blew my mind as a kid!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm imagining a bunch of sharp-dressed teens :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Photocopy - my friend Christine was at the Live at Leeds gig :-)
Avatar 5:14pm StringOFperils:

I have read that small combos in general evolved out of the inability for the front persons/band leaders, the 'names', to pay or hire large dance bands during WWII, because the payroll became impossible and things collapsed into small units, and stayed that way, The band leader, however, remained on the marquee. Could be that, in part.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm Linda Lee:

that seems right.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@StringOFperils - ah :-) That makes sense
Avatar 5:15pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@5:13 DJ GeorgyGirl: hey, i remember chatting about this! How old was she then?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Whenever i hear the line, "each one wishing the other was a man" i think, YOU wish, mister!!!! LOL!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Photocopy - she was at Uni so early 20s?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Granny - LOL!!! Love it :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm Linda Lee:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

brilliant segue to the banjo pickin' ad, GG!
  5:17pm CC:

Bill Haley & the Comets is the first group I can think of???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Granny - I would like to take credit for that ... but it was pure fate :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm Linda Lee:

i was looking for something early 50s, coming out of the big band era
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I now think that there should be a band called Somebody & The Somethings ;-)
Avatar 5:19pm StringOFperils:

There was a band in eastern Canada (still might be) called Buddy Wassisname & the Other Fellers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I mean ... rock and roll came from the blues, and country, and touring bands ... so maybe a mix? I don't know. It's a good question! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm Linda Lee:

Somebody & the Nobodies :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

LOL!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Linda Lee:

macrame'! been waiting for that one to come back. now it will.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm a trendsetter ;-)
Avatar 5:22pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@5:19 Linda Lee: just checked, and yes, there is a band with that name
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm Linda Lee:

absolutely. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm Linda Lee:

is there really? haha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Confession - I absolutely, categorically, 100% cannot do any stepped dances. I have tried many times and failed. I have no left/right coordination. lol. I've even broken furniture. ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm Linda Lee:

am i hearing a little ska here?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I do believe so, yes! :-)
Avatar 5:24pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@5:18 DJ GeorgyGirl: also Somebody & The Somethings can be found from discogs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm Linda Lee:

thank Gaia the hippies freed us of step dances forever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

How about Wotsit & the Thingummys? ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Linda Lee:

somethin & the whatevers?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Whatsiname & The You Knows lol
Avatar 5:26pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@5:25 Linda Lee: they are a real band, yes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Linda Lee:

so hard to be original :-D
Avatar 5:27pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@5:25 DJ GeorgyGirl: holding our collective breath while waiting for the debut of Wotsit & the Thingummys!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Also, back in the day, most of these artists would have no idea where Tallahassie or Tennessee or wherever actually were :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

That's my new band then! Wotsit & The Thingummys :-) Playing near you. Well ... online ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Linda Lee:

let alone Rock Island :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

i still don't know where tallahassee is
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

i've been to Rock Island! My great great grandmother lived there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

FLA is ... Florida? No idea :-)
Avatar 5:29pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@5:27 DJ GeorgyGirl: @5:28 Linda Lee:
yep, i just thought about Lonnie Donegan having no clue about what he is singing about and yet starting a new thing in the UK
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Linda Lee:

'tis the capital of the state of Florida. northwest
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Where is Rock Island?
  5:29pm Rob:

Yes it is in Florida
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

i think FLA = Free Lesspeeyun Advice
  5:30pm Rob:

Rock Island - Illinois
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Linda Lee:

this is not Wimmoweh, but it's close.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Granny - LOL!!! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Linda Lee - it's almost there, isn't it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Rock Island, Illinois is on the Mississippi River and was a big hub of industry back in GGGranny's day
Avatar 5:31pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@5:29 DJ GeorgyGirl:
wikipedia says:
The Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad was a Class I railroad in the United States. It was also known as the Rock Island Line, or, in its final years, The Rock.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Linda Lee:

could be Fierce Lespeeeyun Animals
yes, especially the backing vocals!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Rob - Illinois? Oh! Thank you :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I suppose Chicago makes more sense if it's freight
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Rock Island line was the rr that connected the river transport with the land transport
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm learning new things :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm Linda Lee:

that sounds like a fine idea for a show, GG! rock & rollers set to invade
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Rock Island was pretty much smack dab at the center of the settled US back then
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I went to a fondue supper in Chicago when I was ten. Yes, it was the 70s ;-)
Avatar 5:34pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@5:32 DJ GeorgyGirl: I'm learning new things every single time I listen to a WFMU show (or any other intelligently compiled radio) and additionally, chatting with other listeners at the same time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Linda Lee:

what were you doing in Chicago, GG?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Photocopy - good, innit? :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

I was in Rock Island, Illinois, actually! Visiting ancestral places, for real!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Linda Lee - my mum and I were living with my aunt in Detroit for a bit (she of the Soylent Green pasta) and we visited her best friend who lived in Chicago :-)
Avatar 5:36pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@5:35 DJ GeorgyGirl: aye, especialy during these social distancing days
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm Linda Lee:

ah! forgot that you lived in Detroit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

RI is about 170 miles from Chicago, but it was on the Missippi River, where all the logs that were cut up river would be gathered and transported around the country. My family were loggers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Back when my aunt said "That's Motown over there" and kept driving .. lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm Linda Lee:

:-)
Avatar 5:37pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@5:35 DJ GeorgyGirl: now, are you gonna tell us next you saw Iggy & the Stooges in Detroit as a little girl? Then I might be jealous ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

GG, GST, so many G's! Gee!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Granny - aha!! That definitely makes sense. I love all this :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Linda Lee:

there was once sufficient, supportive employment for everyone who could work. imagine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Photocopy - that I can't claim. lol!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

i love how music contains so much history, folklore, medicine…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm Linda Lee:

yes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Granny - absolutely!!! And the stuff of dreams as well. I used to imagine Route 66 when I was a child :-)
Avatar 5:40pm StringOFperils:

Still boggles my mind that Chris Farlowe ended up in Atomic Rooster for a while
Avatar 5:40pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@5:38 Linda Lee: ever since I came of age this sort of thing was not around. Finland even had its own economic recession during early 90s when I was in my teens.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

meanwhile, i've stopped dancing and started washing all of the groceries my sweetie bravely went out to gather. I'll bet these rockers never imagined their songs being the soundtrack for that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@SOP - I know!!! Boggled mine too! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Linda Lee:

that was quite another world from this one, for sure..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Granny - imagine Elvis doing that, eh? ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

ooh, i've had the pleasure of driving along stretches of the old Route 66. Yes, i'm a bit of a romantic…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Linda Lee:

Ted Heath! a swing bandleader!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Granny - I saw a tiny bit of it in North Carolina and was so happy :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Linda Lee - he got a bit wild there :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm Linda Lee:

i don't think the American Davey Jones was the one who changed David Jones to David Bowie. i'll bet it was the British one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm Linda Lee:

yes he did. moving with the times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Linda Lee - that;s what I was wondering too :-)
Avatar 5:45pm StringOFperils:

hard to be rock n roll in a Vauxhall
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@SOP - yeah ... not really the same LOL
Avatar 5:47pm StringOFperils:

although, I do watch HEARTBEAT, and they seemed to make due...although that's a fantasy...outed myself there, watching Heartbeat (beat era Yorkshire TV show)
Avatar 5:47pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

now tell me, why do brits drive a Vauxhall instead of Opel or use Lynx deodorant instead of Axe - one of the most important questions there can be!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@StringOFperils - I used to watch "Call the Midwife". keep it to yourself tho ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm Linda Lee:

i find the car culture damn oppressive, at this point.
Avatar 5:48pm StringOFperils:

heh. I watch that sometimes too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Photocopy - plus the whole chocolate bar thing too :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm Linda Lee:

suppose it was fun at 15 cents a gallon..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm chresti:

Thanks for the hoppin' tunes, GG!
Avatar 5:48pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@5:48 DJ GeorgyGirl: Oh yeah, wasn't Raider called Twix?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@chresti - you're very welcome :-)
Avatar 5:49pm StringOFperils:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm Linda Lee:

Avatar 5:51pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Avatar 5:51pm StringOFperils:

Thanks loads GeorgyGirl. It's been right fab. I'm venturing out into danger world to purchase some bitter ale, to slake my thirst for more of this ambience. Cheers Luv!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm Linda Lee:

Avatar 5:52pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

Is this Joe Meek-produced? Is Mr. Blackmore on guitar here?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

The one four-hour show I did a couple of weeks was so much fun but I was *exhausted* at the end of it. LOL
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Avatar 5:54pm spodiodi:

fun show, DJ GG- thank you! be well 8^)
Avatar 5:55pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@5:52 DJ GeorgyGirl: this I recognized, the opening guitar lick is one some other Meek song as well, plus the homebaked compressed sound and delay effects: Wasn't this the song Meek "sang" his demo of Telstar on top of?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Joe Meek and Geoff Goddard had a SERIOUS Buddy Holly obsession ;-)
  5:55pm Rob:

This has been fun as these are all new to me - some songs I know from American artists but I am not familiar with most of these folks. Thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm DJ GeorgyGirl:
