Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Hi John from Florham park. I am not sure about KEXP. It's possible they're doing remote and prerecorded/archival stuff like many, many stations, like my mothership station KBOO. I don't know much about KEXP, but do know that they have rather deep pockets, much more so than most community/indy radio stations.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm doctorjazz:

Hi John FFP!
Hi, Franco-I wouldn't call seeing kids in the office being on "the front line"...feel sorry for ER and hospital staff, 1st nurse passed away in NY. We are trying to keep non essential visits to a minimum, keep the waiting room fairly empty. Having said that, the doc who works right next to me was home all week (she got tested, results still pending, but I'm sure it was Coronavirus), today she's doing better after a bad week (but not bad enough for hospitalization). Another in our other office was much worse, also home but taking much longer to get better (probably age related). Being very careful with the few (regular) masks I have, and the 1 gown, washing my hands like I'm going in to do open heart surgery. But, so far, feeling well. Thanks for asking, sorry about the long winded reply.
  12:39pm bigplanetnoise:

Rest easy, Danny Mihm.
Avatar 12:40pm Franco Twinkie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm dutchtheo:

Actually i'm a mailman, work goes on, even more, everyone is buying online. But there is a " light" lockdown here, not approved by all, so lots of kids playing in the street, no school, good weather , actually i like it in a strange way, but not the fact that one can not visit their parents in old peoples homes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm doctorjazz:

Thanks, doing well, hope everyone else is.

Same here, Alex, that's the big concern, being near people that don't know they have it, is how it spreads.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Jeff Golick:

This reminds me of that Emahoy/Ethiopiques piano.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm chresti:

This set is blending nicely with Bryce, in the kitchen.

Happy Birthday tho your daughter, Dean! (Crummy time to celebrate...have a teleconference bar mitzva tomorrow).
In the office, don't have a chance to watch the video right now.
And Happy Birthday Chresti:s brother as well.

Thanks, doc. Price provides a good reality check and sensible advice.

Sensible because expert, I should have said.

Another timeless classic from the vaults of WFMU
  1:28pm Dean:

It's okay. I flubbed the listening part, too.
  1:35pm Dean:

From the liner notes to the Waterloo Lily reissue: A more typical Caravan track was recorded on 8th November 1971. "Looking Left, Looking Right" evolved from a riff that Pye had been playing in between takes in the studio. Omitted due to time constraints of vinyl, the track featured Mike Cotton on Trumpet [sic] and was recorded in two sections. The second part, entitled "Pye's Loop", was designed to be faded back in at a point the listener assumed the song had finished. "I suspect that song fell victim to both our jazz direction and time limitations" muses Hastings. After languishing in the Decca vaults for twenty-nine years both tracks have been mixed, re-assembled and appear on this CD for the first time.
  1:37pm Dean:

Hell, yes, Twilley.
Avatar 1:37pm Hams:

aw, man.
  1:40pm Dean:

Was it Pitcock or the bass player who played over the neck? Saw Twilley in Buena Park, a great show.

great show selecter @um

For a second I thought this was Scott Walker
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm People Like Us:

Yay I love this Maurizio Graf, old favourite
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm People Like Us:

Scott did do one himself for Morricone - same Italian soundtrack album
Avatar 1:44pm Franco Twinkie:

Buena Park! I love that. Dean, some of my fondest musical memories are of seen bands play in off track places around Southern California.
  1:45pm Dean:

Venue was a strip mall not far from Knott's Berry Farm. The strip had *two* clubs, the Woodstock (where Twilley played) and another venue, the name of which I forgot. Still, two of my bands played there, too, one at each.
Avatar 1:46pm Franco Twinkie:

Right on! Jamming at the strip mall.
  1:49pm Dean:

Slayer played the Woodstock, too.

"Jamming": I see what you did there.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm doctorjazz:

@Dean, had to do some work at the computer, so able to play that video in the background. Basically good advice, pretty useful video for most folks.

The House passed the revised Coronavirus Relief Bill. Looks like Massie came to his senses.

Thanks, doc. Seemed like a good balance of medical expertise and encouraging bedside manner, itself a species of expertise.

I forgot how much I love MOTO!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm Stanley:

Hi Kevin. I'm on my second out of the three beers I brought back with me. And both have been exceptional. All new to me, I relied on the fella in Coolvines on Montgomery Street. He certainly knows his stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm Stanley:

And how are you and yours?
  2:17pm dan:

I can’t believe these are the same guys that sang Radar Love and Twilight Zone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm Pedro in Arlington:

It's been 40 years since the Jam and I still haven't taken the deep dive into Weller's post Style Council work. Uh, maybe now?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm Michael 98145:

Hi UM and all. I hope everybody is healthy. I too have a major gap in terms of knowing bands (indie and mainstream) in the 90s...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm Michael 98145:

Stay tuned for the Two Trillion Dollar rain!!
  2:25pm dan:

@Michael
That’s the only rain I’ll look forward to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Stanley! Doing fine here. Getting out for a daily run along the Harbor. Very glad that I have a backyard and porch. Haven't been in CoolVines, but it's very close to my nephew, so I'll have to check it out when things calm down.Hopefully all is good in Boro of Edin. Enjoy!

You have this dan here for the next 30 minutes
Avatar 2:32pm Franco Twinkie:

I would love to be 16 again, if only to re-experience the shows I went to at that amazing time. I was the same me I am today, just less stooped over.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm Cmurtha:

That track gave me bad vibes for some reason. The segment was great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm Uncle Michael:

I'm back!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm Doug Schulkind:

I clearly don't listen to much Kacey Musgraves, but I hear a real similarity with Laura Cantrell's voice. A little thinner and sweeter, but they share quite a bit, to my ears.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm doctorjazz:

I Like Kasey, at least this album, and particularly Same Trailer, Different Park.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm Uncle Michael:

They're both great writers, too.
  2:37pm dan:

@Doug
She’s one of the only people to sound like the old country music of the Grand Ol Opry days
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm Uncle Michael:

Thank you all for welcoming Dan to the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm Doug Schulkind:

@dan
Well maybe that's exactly it. Speaking of which, the wonderful Iris DeMent shared a song on her Facebook page yesterday that had me bawling: www.facebook.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm Artie:

Hey Dan! Hey UM! Missed most of the live interaction (stupid work), but will be sure to catch it on the archive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm Uncle Michael:

This is one of those songs that would be a lot better if it was 2:00 shorter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks, Artie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm Michael 98145:
