Oh man, Todd, the scene with the Father's ghost is amazing, if you're talking about the Olivier Hamlet. One of my favorite scenes ever.
Avatar 3:09pm Peter from Dover NJ:

Hello Todd and everyone. Staying safe. Since the governor has imposed lockdown, I don't know how I'm gonna stay sane. Life without a daily run?!

Hey @Handy! @Peter - yeah, same here. Not that I've ever run anything close to a marathon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm KevinfromBayRidge:

@ Peter. I think you can still get out and run or walk. Just not near anyone.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Gaylord Fields:

Todd, I'm resisting looking at the first-run playlist for this show to see how the second half of your show will sync up with "Creature From the Black Lagoon" — I'd rather be surprised.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Chop Scott:

I'm listening Todd--and it's actually good to hear your voice!!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Handy Haversack:

Hey, all. Was trying internet (free) poker with a friend. Not ideal, but it's a connection. Show sounds great (in the past!) How's everyone?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm mariano:

Hey David. How's the lockdown over on your side?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Stanley:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm mariano:

All good here, Handy. I have reclusive tendencies so no big diff. You holding up alright? Really glad we have the web, otherwise imagine the isolation then...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm Spinning Giant:

Yumdillyicious...thanks in reverse/advance TOPT :))
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm Stanley:

Hi Todd - one of the nights in December. Don't remember it being the NYE show.
Avatar 3:47pm spacecowboy:

i know it was a hit and all but um fox on the run ? It is just so good - one of the first singles i ever bought
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm Stanley:

I mean it sincerely, folks!
(Hughie Green)
  3:48pm David in London:

Hey Mariano, it’s OK, calm but a little eerie. I was telling Handy and John earlier that I managed to visit a bookshop today and it felt like an hour of sanity and normality on the edge of strange darkness. How are you doing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Handy Haversack:

Hey, @mariano,. We went on a ~3 mile walk with the dog to get him his flea medicine and ended up hitting several shops to add to the emergency supplies (and I had realized one of my two pairs of jeans was about to fall completely apart; got to look respectable for the apocalypse!). AND LOTS OF BOOZE. So it got fairly epic but was really nice just to see some sunlight and people and dogs and whatnot. Talked to a WFMU listener for a nice long while, and she gave us several plants.
  3:49pm David in London:

Stanley, hey hey. The Rainbow in Finsbury Park?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm Stanley:

@David - The very one. I went to a whole bunch of gigs at the Rainbow. That and the Hammersmith Odeon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm Handy Haversack:

The stores had things in place to make you stand back? And one small pharmacy was making people queue outside and come in one at a time.

My attempt to hoard onions is ongoing. I have a feeling the sufficient number of onions is irrational or imaginary or both.
  3:53pm David in London:

Stanley, that’s very cool. Wish the Rainbow was still extant. There’s some great footage on YouTube of the Ramones playing there on Boxing Day ‘77.
  3:54pm David in London:

Handy, how many onions have you managed to stash so far?
  3:54pm P-90:

Yeah right, like Todd and his audience “probably never heard of” the Graham Bond Organization?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm Stanley:

@David - I was lucky to have a cousin in the business who got me and my friends tickets. He also had a flat in Bayswater where we would hang out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm Handy Haversack:

9, David. That's the highest we have been able to maintain.
Avatar 4:00pm prguitar:

This interview is fabulous Todd! Thank you and Andy Scott!! Sweet to hear your voice!!
  4:01pm Andres Nutley:

Thank you Todd!
  4:05pm David in London:

Stanley, that sounds like a great deal all told. My brother saw Beefheart at The Rainbow, but unfortunately I was too young (sad face).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm Handy Haversack:

Now drinking a can of saison from Transmitter Brewing, named after the old radio transmitter in my neighborhood. It was a WNYC transmitter back in the day. Now a park mainly full of small, wealthy children.

Good beer, though!
  4:05pm David in London:

Handy, you are the Onion King. You can do anything. (To quote Jim Morrison).
Avatar 4:06pm spacecowboy:

social isolation isnt a problem - just check out more wfmu
  4:08pm spodiodi:

Avatar 4:08pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

Andy is a wonderful guest!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Handy Haversack:

There are notes in Andy Scott's voice that remind me very much of my friend Chris's accent. He's from a small town in the NE and says people from towns ten miles away on either side can't understand his accent. In London he has to have his wife phone for pizza because everyone says they have no idea what he's saying.
  4:09pm spodiodi:

great interview
Avatar 4:09pm spacecowboy:

didnt sweet have some thing where the drummer traded licks with a filmed version of himself?
Avatar 4:11pm spacecowboy:

when they were playing live
Avatar 4:11pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@Handy Haversack: Why is Chris ordering pizza in London?
  4:11pm David in London:

Hey spodiodi. How are you doing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm Stanley:

David - I was only fourteen at the time and well into my glam, esp Roxy Music who I also saw there.
The Hammersmith Odeon took over from The Rainbow for that size of venue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm Handy Haversack:

The heart wants what it wants, I guess, Todd! He should know better, having lived in Brooklyn, but what can you do? We can only eat the pizza we have.
Avatar 4:13pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

Well put, Handy. Great to hang last week btw.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Stanley:

This is a shit-kickin' show, Todd.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm mariano:

Sorry David, missed your message, was doing stuff around the house. I'm all good personally, thanks. Hunkered down, but that's pretty much the way I am most of the time anyway. Glad you had a few moments of sanity in the book shop.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Sweet Corn Lizzie:

What Stanley said
Avatar 4:15pm Johnny S:

TGITOPT! This is what the Dr ordered today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Handy Haversack:

With you and Sheryl, too, Todd! We really enjoyed it. Was a great way to spend the last weekend before the locks snapped closed. We are really grateful for WFMU right now -- even more than usual!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm mariano:

Thought it was gonna be "You Got Another Thing Comin'".
  4:17pm David in London:

Stanley, yeah, I’ve seen some stone cold classics at Hammersmith over the years. I still miss the Palais, but the Odeon is great for large shows. Recent highlight there have been Stevie Winwood and Mel Brooks. Both amazing.
  4:18pm spodiodi:

hi David in London, awaiting the endless end. no complaints (plus there's a sandwich in my near future) 8^) yourself?
and hi to all, and
hi and thank you, Todd-o-Phonic Todd!!!
  4:18pm David in London:

Glad you’re AOK Mariano. It’s really good to meet here and hang out with everyone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Stanley:

David it's still going? Yeah the Palais was smaller but a much better venue.
Avatar 4:19pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

SPOILER ALERT: Hamlet does not appear to have a happy ending.
  4:20pm medson:

TOPT working from home
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Stanley:

And him too!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Doobois:

Aw, yeah! Crankin' this Bowie! Thanks, Todd.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Handy Haversack:

@David, how many of Marillion's five consecutive sold-out shows at the Odeon did you manage to see?

@Todd, no, Fortinbras is fine!
Avatar 4:21pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

Had I known this show was going to air again I would have edited out the mistakes!
  4:21pm David in London:

Spodiodi. I hear you. Much the same here really, but trying to keep a cheerful face on and lighten the gloom wherever possible.
  4:22pm David in London:

Your mistakes are better than other people’s intentions TOPT.
  4:23pm David in London:

Handy, none there, but they were from Aylesbury, near to where I grew up, so I did see them at Friars, which was that towns pretty legendary venue...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm Stanley:

David - Friars! Knew it well. Saw Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson there. Small world.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm Handy Haversack:

Nice, calming siren ...

@David, still pretty cool! Another formative part of my misplaced childhood ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm Stanley:

David - you don't happen to know The Nags Head in High Wycombe?
  4:33pm David in London:

Stanley. Played my sixth ever gig at The Nags Head and saw many, many fine bands there through my teenage years. How funny. So glad you knew it too. Sadly no more these days.
  4:34pm Bluesman:

Sending love from Sloatsburg! TOPT and SOPC stay well!
  4:34pm David in London:

Handy, I always picture you in a jesters outfit.
  4:36pm Spacecowboy:

How about burn on the flame the flip side of fox on the run and just as good
Avatar 4:40pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

Hey Bluesman! Thanks buddy....hope you guys are hanging in there and we get to hang out at the Kim Shattuck tribute show when it's rescheduled.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Handy Haversack:

Kate is organizing the photographs -- fourteen years of prints from before we went digital, plus our separate relics from college and before. I use to really look trim in my motley!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm Handy Haversack:

Todd, do you know if he has heard the Wild Irish Roses cover of "Fox on the Run"?
  4:48pm spodiodi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm Stanley:

David - I believe Ron Watts is no more, either. Great to know we possibly crossed paths back in the day.
  4:52pm sam pocker:

Great set today, Todd!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Gaylord Fields:

@Spinning Giant: Sorry, was listening on broadcast 91.1 and was away from my computer. Tomorrow's show will be my first rerun in my 28 years on WFMU. Gonna try to get my home tech up to speed to be able to prerecord a show for the following week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Handy Haversack:

@Gaylord, is there a checklist of tech requirements for prerecording? For broadcasting from home?
Avatar 4:55pm dale:

some nice toe tappage here today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm Motobro:

Todd !!
Get outta town! Your gonna watch Bullit, AND from a fur lined fallout shelter...
Damn thats cool.
Great flick.
Steve McQueen was always one of my favorites. Especially because he loved and could ride the wheels off a dirt bikes. Like me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm Pablexa™:

Avatar 4:59pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@Motobro: I know how to make the best out of a bad situation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm McGroovey:

I don't have anything interesting to say now, so I'm not going to.
Avatar 5:00pm dale:

hey moto - today was a great riding day but i'm taking advantage of this work stoppage to repaint my wife's office and do some reorganizing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm mariano:

Wow, Gaylord - 28 years? Gotta be a record, huh?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm Gaylord Fields:

@Handy: There have been suggestions and guidelines going around the station internally. It also depends on if you're going to broadcast live or are simply prerecording a show to be run by someone else. I plan on doing the latter.
Avatar 5:03pm dale:

the sweet covered ray stevens? wow!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm Gaylord Fields:

@Mariano: There are about a dozen or so DJs currently on the air who predate me, some by almost two decades.
Avatar 5:04pm wickedmountain:

I Heard there is a Dj named Sheila on here when is her show on please ?
Avatar 5:04pm dale:

did they cover guitarzan too?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm Handy Haversack:

_The Cincinnati Kid_ is one of my favorite Steve McQueen movies (despite the ... *unlikely* poker). But what a problem to have -- choosing between Ann-Margaret and Tuesday Weld!

Coincidentally the names of a red and blond ale that we used to brew.

Thanks, @Gaylord! Was wondering if Ken suddenly produced pamphlets: "So You Want to Broadcast from Home!"

To repeat a common refrain: we are so grateful for all you all are doing to keep things going. Means a lot.
Avatar 5:04pm Dave the Spazz:

Love this interview. Forgot that Sweet cover Ray Stevens!

@Gaylord - yeah, but who haven't missed any shows the entire time?
Avatar 5:08pm dale:

no - i'll check it out t.o.p.t.
  5:09pm AS from MP:

TOPT - Not all interviewees seem as accommodating or forthcoming - But Andy Scott is not among those, quite a pleasure to listen in on - your questioning always on spot too, here again as usual - which always seems to give your guests comfort

Thanks AS! Glad you are digging it Spazz!

Without question, the world is a better place thanks to Queen and Sweet. Excellent bandship and listenship

@Motobro: You are in Denver? My choice there would be The Satire Lounge!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Motobro:

No I’m in Boonton NJ. Johnnies is the local haunt.
My son is in Denver and I checked the Satire outl on my last visit.
Then you turned me onto the one in NOLA on Decatur St but can’t recall the name....

As a kid back then, It felt like Sweet , Bolan, Slade etc were giving you something real and special , where as other artists of the time , you were just listening to. Great interview ,big thanks.
  5:35pm Earth Walker:

How’s it going David. Are you guys in lockdown too They imposed a curfew yesterday 20h. I’m cleverly keeping under the radar here in France. Again tonight lot’s of people were banging pots and pans making noise 20h in support of health care workers. Ya gotta love it big time !
Avatar 5:36pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@Motobro: The Abbey!
  5:37pm DaveinPA:

Avatar 5:37pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@spidermank: I tuned into Scott Muni's "Things From England" Friday afternoons on WNEW-FM just hoping to hear a new single from one of those acts...and had to put up with a lot of Greenslade in the process!
  5:37pm Earth Walker:

Not many people can pull of a Beatles cover. They did and did it well !

Avatar 5:38pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Jeezy:

Avatar 5:39pm wickedmountain:

  5:39pm Earth Walker:

Avatar 5:39pm dale:

when i moved upstate wrrv (or wpdh?) had a bumper that scott muni read - 'turn it up ad rip the knob off.' his voice was unmistakeable.

Got to tell, my first few steps into that place I though, where the hell is he sending me! Then I had the first drink... brings a big smile to my face just thinking about it.

Sitting in a parking lot just enjoying this tune
  5:40pm David in London:

Earth Walker, similar here, although without an official curfew. But spirits holding up so far.
Vintage TOPT and The Sweet are helping hugely.
Avatar 5:40pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@wickedmountain: No. He did play Gentle Giant.
Avatar 5:40pm wickedmountain:

@Dale wasn't that the same guy from the syndicated show Metalshop ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm Ignatatus666:

How many times have I heard this song ripped off for its riffs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm Matt Clarke:

@Todd: Hahah pretty much! I am on the road that leads to the Holland Tunnel
Avatar 5:41pm dale:

i don't know what metalshop is. scott muni was a deejay in ny in the 60s to 90s.
  5:42pm Earth Walker:

Right on David
Avatar 5:42pm spidermank:

@Todd-o-phonic Todd: - I had to look up Greenslade , not heard of them, not like Slade , I lived them.
Avatar 5:43pm wickedmountain:

they had a commercial for there syndicated show metalshop that said that phrase . it was a syndicated heavy metal show in the 1980s and 1990s .
Avatar 5:43pm dale:

ah! maybe the upstate station stole it.
Avatar 5:43pm wickedmountain:

Dave Greenslade was the leader of that band hence the name
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm Mike Sin:

"Encore" edition of a very insightful interview here -- reminds us that the WFMU archives are incredibly valuable!
Avatar 5:45pm wickedmountain:

Greenslade rare unknown band in America , just like Atomic Rooster, Tempest, Etc
Avatar 5:47pm wickedmountain:

maybe lol @Dale
Avatar 5:50pm spidermank:

ta for info @wikkidmountain. I think Noddy Holder said Slade was the name of a girlfriends handbag...whatever that means.? So many classics from that era , not forgetting "Lets Make A Daft Noise For Christmas" by the Goodies - absolute joy to a young boy at the time.
Avatar 5:51pm wickedmountain:

Handbag is another word for Purse or Satchel .

Avatar 5:53pm Peter from Dover NJ:

Wow. A great exposition of a band I never completely appreciated.
Avatar 5:55pm Peter from Dover NJ:

Am aware of Greenslade, I think a drummer from King Crimson played with them... haven't listened to much of their stuff.
Avatar 5:55pm dale:

i always wondered if that instrumental break in love is like oxygen was inspired by mike oldfield and tubular bells.
