Here's a link to the Arts Covid Big List/ – an extensive list of Relief and Resources For Artists, Freelancers, and Non-Profits: http://artscovid.org/.

Also: BRIC has created a great resource list for artists during the viral crisis:

How the Arts and Culture Sector Can Prepare for the Coronavirus in the United States

As we take heightened precautions to support public health initiatives, including temporarily closing our doors, we want to maintain our unwavering support of the artistic and creative community and ensure that you continue to thrive. To that end, we have compiled a list of shared resources from local and national arts and culture organizations.

These resources offer assistance, such as financial support and opportunities for artists to continue to express their creative potential during these difficult times. They should not be mistaken for public health information distributed by city and state authorities.

In the coming days and weeks, finding ways to support one another will become especially crucial. At BRIC, we reaffirm our commitment to support visual artists, performers, and media makers as we unite Brooklyn through art and creativity, together, to build community and make change. We hope you will find the links below to be of use to you and your creative community as we all navigate the impact of the novel Coronavirus/COVID-19.

We will continue to add new links and resources over the coming weeks. Please check our blog for updates, or follow BRIC on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook @bricbrooklyn.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm Cmurtha:

Hello everyone. I have an odd question, but one that WFMU and perhaps this show can help answer. I've been looking for a song. I heard it on a single record, probably was a south American spanish cover of "The Black Superman", I cannot find it on google or any music service I know (unless that changed in recent years, its been a while since i've scoured). Thanks if anyone knows, and stay healthy gang!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm Marley P. Dogg:

Hi Rob, thanks for the tunes tonight! Hope all is well and stay safe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm Bas NL:

@Joe I'm a little more flat nosed from being behind my front window, but i'm happily warmed by WFMU's sounds!

Avatar 6:38pm spodiodi:

happy b-day, Threemoons!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm Rob W:

Thanks kylepw! The compilation it's on - Alefa Madagascar - is really fascinating to me. I've been a fan of music from Madagascar for a long time (ever since GlobeStyle records released music from there and David Lindley and Henry Kaiser recorded and released artists there circa 1980s) but I hadn't heard many of the artists before.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm Bas NL:

Best B-day wishes, Threemoons!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:43pm Threemoons:

And if I'm working from home, it's all WFMU all the time over here!! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm Rob W:

Same for me actually Threemoons - I'm getting to listen to a lot more FMU during the work-week than usual - another silver lining!

Stanley: I've never been to Cape Verde either. There's a actually a music conference there every spring called Atlantic Music Expo (er - I suspect it may not happen this year) and that could be an excuse for a visit sometime.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48pm Rob W:

@ Cmurtha re: your question earlier - I might have some ideas of people to ask; I'll write back off-line.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm ParUbi:

@slugluv YES. Rice. He makes the best rice. It might sound like a low bar, but it's always perfect. I can't.

Aw thanks Stashu (blushes).
It was terrific to meet you and, also, so many nice people at the Polka Party. The last night out for many of us for some time, I fear. Stay well.
Avatar 7:12pm slugluv1313:

@ Katie -- WOW very cool and not a low bar at all!
making excellent rice (brown or white or whatever) is not as simple as it would seem
Avatar 7:14pm spodiodi:

imho rice might be an exception to the ole' art > science cooking adage
Avatar 7:15pm katie:

@slugluv even with a rice cooker. Mine is always soggy. His is fluffy. even the heavy black or red rices.
Avatar 7:15pm JakeGould:

Hello all!

Went to the Union Square Farmer’s market today. Everyone was wearing masks. And the same a-hole endlessly blasting Muslim prayers — not music, just prayers — was there today.

Otherwise, normal!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm Rob W:

I don't usually get to enjoy a Schlenkerla Bamberg smoked beer so early in my show... Katie's enjoying a Daisy Cutter Pale Ale c/o Half Acre

Rice cookers really only handle white rice. I like white rice, but it's not really food — more of a comfort food.

Cooking good (whole) rice well takes practice, but it's worth it.

If we're talking beer - I'm enjoying a chocolate and raspberry stout, a Pilot (Scotland) / Amundsen (Norway) colab. Perfect for this show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm chresti:

Heavy pots with a tight lid, seem to work best for me.
  7:21pm JakeGould:

@Brian: Because of the sugar content,
Avatar 7:21pm spodiodi:

each of those beers above sound delicious. cheers
Avatar 7:22pm spodiodi:

the chocolate and raspberry one sounds supergood

Really, misterwhiteside. err.. misterwhiterice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm chresti:

I love short grain brown rice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm Stanley:

spodiodi - I wish I could send you one.
Avatar 7:24pm βrian:

@chresti: Have you ever made kheer with it? Wow!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm Stanley:

FWIW my rice cooker does short grain brown perfectly. YumAsia is the make.
  7:24pm Wuthry Guffy:

I got the Guffy.
Avatar 7:25pm βrian:

@Stanley: Is it a separate setting? When I've tried in the past, it was a dismal failure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm Stanley:

βrian - Keer with brown rice?
  7:26pm Dan B:

Amazing music Rob! Thanks for the show & also hi to Katie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm chresti:

Hi Stanley, yum Brian.
Avatar 7:27pm βrian:

@Stanley: Yes. Short-grain brown, sweetened with grade-A Vermont Amber. Lots of cardamom, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm Stanley:

βrian - Yes, it has a preset for brown rice. The trick is to adjust the water level to the rice you're using. Once you have that it's a doddle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm Stanley:

Grade-A Vermont Amber. Is that a maple syrup?
Avatar 7:31pm βrian:

Yep. Or sirop d'érable if your north of the border.
  7:31pm P-90:

This Black String is some ecstatic therapy.
  7:31pm rich:

hi rob (and katie), usually we're making dinner during your show but now you’re making dinner during your show. this black string is very nice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm Stanley:

βrian - sorry to barrage you with questions but I presume you are using milk or half and half?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm Rob W:

Hi Rich, yes, the tables have turned! Glad you like Black String - they are part of the new wave of Korean folk-experimental bands. I've seen them a couple of times and they're great live too. Hoping i can reel them in as show guests sometime down the road.
Avatar 7:33pm slugluv1313:

@ Karie and @ Rob -- where DO you find these fascinating beers???
my favorite rice is organic brown Basmati rice, but it took me YEARS to get it right! and yes, a heavy cast iron pot may be the trick, along with super low heat
Avatar 7:33pm βrian:

Whole milk. Bring it close to a boil, drop the heat low, and stir, stir, stir.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm Stanley:

Hear you βrian and I'll give it a go.
Avatar 7:35pm βrian:

Also, try to keep the sweetness mild. Then it works both as a substantial dessert or mind-boggling breakfast.

Hello all, both Trans-Pacific & Trans-Atlantic & in between. Stanley, your brew inspires me to venture beyond the BQE and seek something bolder than the pedestrian Founders Centennial IPA that I just imbibed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm Rob W:

slugluv - not to advertise too much but Super Buy-Rite in Jersey City (across the street from Home Depot, near the Holland Tunnel) has a fabulous selection and we stocked up bigtime last week! The Sparrow store on Washington St in Hoboken has a good selection though too.
Avatar 7:36pm spodiodi:

i use a decently thick steel pot, lid, and gas burner. 40 minute simmer for brown rice seems to nail it pretty consistently
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37pm Rob W:

Hello KevinfromBayRidge!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37pm chresti:

I use basmati brown rice for keer.
Avatar 7:37pm βrian:

@Brian i wouldn't count on it, stores are running out of all sorts of stuff, probably some recipe on how to make sanitizer using fennel
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:04pm listener 126464:

you can get it with or without fennel
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:04pm Handy Haversack:

Cold out there here on the NYC tip! Sounding great -- nice to come home to!

Hello, friends!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05pm Richard S:

Wow! look at all the pledgers and Swag For Lifers here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07pm Rob W:

Yes indeed Richard S - Thank you all for your support of WFMU!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07pm Stanley:

I have a friend who's partner is a prepper nut. Apparently, he's crowing now with his store of canned tomatoes, beans, etc. He's only recently gone vegan and has about fifty cans of tuna to off load.
Avatar 8:07pm βrian:

We're making pizza tonight and, for us, pizza without fennel just isn't right.

(Not that we're picky or anything ...)
Avatar 8:09pm βrian:

@Stanley: That's do say said vegan had one final tuna binge and the end product needs an exit strategy?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10pm Richard S:

@Stanley, tell your friend to give them to the nearest charitable food pantry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10pm Folsom:

I think it is funny all the flour is gone by me, everyone now started to make bread or pizza dough? luckily found flour last week
  8:10pm Rob and Kim:

Rob W! Thank you for providing some “normal” to our lives with the music tonight! We appreciate you showing up to broadcast.
Avatar 8:11pm spodiodi:

i have some vegan tuna to offload, but i might end up eating it now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:11pm Handy Haversack:

It's been pretty cool watching the Marathon total continue to climb after Marathon ended.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm Stanley:

Good idea Richard S. I'll suggest it but he probably sees it as an 'investment'. Poor sod.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Bring your radios outside for a few minutes. The space station is passing over the NY/NJ at about 8:13. It's nice and clear in my vicinity tonight. spotthestation.nasa.gov
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm Rob W:

Thanks Rob and Kim! And Ken From Hyde Park - normally I couldn't join in space-station-watching but right now I guess I can!
Avatar 8:17pm slugluv1313:

@ Stanley -- yes, i was thinking the same thing!
homeless shelters, Food Not Bombs, etc. -- even a lot of local churches, temples, etc. have food pantries :)
(i have a bunch of stuff to donate to Food Not Bombs, was emailing them but have not heard back from them since this crisis started!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17pm Ken From Hyde Park:

@Stanley: Westminster had already fed all the hungry so your contribution wasn't needed?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm mariano:

Yep, New Orleans is musically very much part of the Caribbean. Haitian music has had its influence, the second line drumbeat is very influenced by Cuban music, plus the first ska musicians in Jamaica had New Orleans black radio stations as their first big influence. The whole region's a laboratory for good music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm Rob W:

OOPS - Technical error...!
  8:30pm Joe McG:

Rob, I think you've created a remix of yourself!
