Hello, and good afternoon, Mayuko, & fred.
  12:00pm Ortley:

So ready for this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm listener james from westwood:

Seismic waves, ocean peaks, or pulsar musings? They can be all three!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm Doug Schulkind:

@listener james from westwood
Or maybe animated Joy Division LP cover?

Hello Mayuko and listenerds!

Quarantine Greetings, Mayuko and Vertighosts.

So nice that this is happening, hey everyone, hi Mayuko
  12:04pm JosephB:

Now that we're all social distancing I'm really grateful to have this already (physically) distant little community

It is very nice to have this gathering as usual!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm fred:

I can't remember who said once they were making ice cream, but now I wish I had the skill/equipment
Avatar 12:18pm JakeGould:

Hey Mayuko!
Avatar 12:18pm Mayuko:

Me too! Think it was rw who said he was making home-made mint ice cream? maybe someone else.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm fred:

Nice Nihiloxica track!
Avatar 12:19pm Mayuko:

This Nihiloxica track IS great!!!!!
Avatar 12:20pm Mayuko:

Hey Jake, what are you doing here? Thought you were out and about in the city. haha!
Avatar 12:22pm JakeGould:

Going out later actually.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm chresti:

Morning Mayuko and Vertigo-ers!
Avatar 12:23pm dougseidel:

Mayuko - thanks for being!
Avatar 12:24pm Mayuko:

Good morning chresti! Thank YOU for being here with us, dougseidel!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Dropof Goldensun:

Not just Nihiloxica! Everything so far has been so good!
Avatar 12:25pm Mayuko:

@tmoyo how are things in Japan? Kinda weirdly calm over there it seems.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm fred:

Using ISRCs as track names is a nice twist on "untitled" tracks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm tmoyo:

Yeah, schools are reopening in April and people are hanging out in parks in droves.
I don't know what happens once the Olympics gets cancelled...which seems inevitable at this point.
Avatar 12:29pm Mayuko:

@Dropof oh nose! I see some microorganism on this board now though it looks kinda friendly!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm maestroso:

G'day Mayuko! I'll be listening in the car as usual. Hope you're well and safe.
  12:31pm JosephB:

@tmoyo It surprises me that people in Japan seem to be handling this so casually. Here in LA, I can't even go to work anymore.
Avatar 12:31pm Mayuko:

@maestroso I love how your routine has no changes. Hope you're well too!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Dave in Vermont:

for the past many Saturdays at work I have been telling my coworkers that at noon we are going to listen to to Mayuko, it's almost time for Mayuko.
Then on a recent Saturday one of my co-workers said to me it's almost time for Your Yuko.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm tmoyo:

@JosephB Many offices are making their employees work from home, but still, the government hasn't taken any strict measures.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Dropof Goldensun:

The microorganisms in my lab are a little more friendly than what's going around. I don't want to name names but I think I know which virus I'm talking about! ;)
Avatar 12:36pm Mayuko:

@tmoyo @JoeB Japanese people had already been obsessively washing hands and wearing masks every winter and also good at social distancing, so maybe nothing much has to change. (Kidding. I know many men there don't wash their hands after using bathroom which is gross! >:(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Dropof Goldensun:

*you know
Avatar 12:38pm Mayuko:

@Dave Haha! Well I'm so glad you've somehow convinced(trained) them to listen to this show which is kinda miraculous.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Dave in Vermont:

thanks, My Yuko
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm fred:

I really liked this Primitive World track
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Dropof Goldensun:

Everyone here at work is listening to you!
  12:42pm JosephB:

@mayuko @tmoyo It is kind of crazy that the 'rona hasn't spread more over there. Maybe the masks really do help.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm melinda:

Hi everyone!
  12:44pm melinda:

@Joseph they probably do
Avatar 12:45pm Mayuko:

Hi melinda! Thanks for tuning in!
  12:45pm melinda:

@Dave that’s funny
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm tmoyo:

JosephB, I heard that there are fewer tests in Japan than other countries, so the numbers could blow up...
Avatar 12:46pm Mayuko:

@Joe B We as Japanese can overcome everything with strong willpower and bamboo sticks. I recommend you follow our example.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm tmoyo:

haha, Mayuko, you are on point!
Avatar 12:47pm Mayuko:

Maybe bamboo *spears, rather.
  12:47pm JosephB:

@mayuko はい‼︎
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm fred:

@Mayuko: You forgot to mention the shamisen plectrum
Avatar 12:48pm Mayuko:

@fred The whole album of that Primitive World is pretty great!
Avatar 12:49pm Mayuko:

@fred yes, that too. Discipline!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Dropof Goldensun:

JoesphB, I myself am only wearing gloves when I go out shopping but I have to believe the masks do help to some degree for various reasons. To be honest, telling people to stay at least 6 feet apart and masks do nothing contradict each other. Keeping a distance is to prevent droplets spread though the air and so is a mask if worn properly. Distance is better AND it leaves more masks available for healthcare workers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm chresti:

And bamboo skewers, deadly!
Avatar 12:53pm Mayuko:

Why would you guys wanna hang out with other human beings anyway? #antisocial4life
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Dropof Goldensun:

On another note, I have bamboo growing uncontrollably in my backyard!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm listener james from westwood:

Oh, wow, I remember mention of those folks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm fred:

FI means Finland, 3AC is the code for the label, 20 is the release year, 28020 is a track ID
Avatar 1:03pm Hams:

this is a good time to snack.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm melinda:

Interesting how personal distance comfort levels are cultural. I've heard of people from more crowded places moving to the US and unintentionally creeping people out by standing super close when queuing in public spaces, regardless of how many people are around.
Avatar 1:04pm coelacanth∅:

greetings Mayuko and all
Avatar 1:04pm spodiodi:

hi Mayuko, all. thanks for the show!

I had been looking forward to this week, young composers at work were supposed to premiere a first draft of their graduation pieces. Now that my workplace has closed its door for a while, I don't know what happens to them (they paid a lot for that year of training, in tuition, hardware and especially rent)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Listening from a social distance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm doctorjazz:

Avatar 1:15pm Mayuko:

@Hams Yes! I'm anxious that all my pile of chocolate wafers is already gone, and lockdown JUST started!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm chresti:

A friend had a court date next week, for an eviction from his apartment, luckily for him, the courts have been closed and a halt on evictions order is in effect.
Avatar 1:16pm Mayuko:

Wow fred! @1:01 That's impressive!! should have seen that comment while still on mic :/
Avatar 1:17pm Mayuko:

Hi coel, spodiodi and Rickwaukee! Glad to have you guys here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm listener james from westwood:

Extraordinary Sandoval track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm ParUbi:

I've been thinking about planting bamboo. As I understand, some are less likely to grow out of control than others. I guess I'm interested in the "clumping," not "running," kind.
  1:19pm Jeff g. via app:

Great set, Mayuko. Hello!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm chresti:

Bamboo is best planted in containers, I've heard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm Uncle Michael:

I'm not just staying home, I'm refusing to leave my basement.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm ParUbi:

Hey Jeff G! Hi chresti, UM, listener james, everybody up the scroll, of course Mayuko again
Avatar 1:23pm Mayuko:

@melinda That is interesting. I certainly feel uncomfortable when strangers are standing close to me (unless it's on the dance floor) think it must be cultural. Feel the strong need to start singing Sting (♬Don't stand so close to me♬) to creep them back off.
Avatar 1:23pm Mayuko:

Hi Ken, doctorjazz! Thanks for tuning in!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm chresti:

Hi ParUbi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm ParUbi:

Yeah, containers might make sense.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm doctorjazz:

Working on teaching the old dog (Ozzie) new tricks.
Avatar 1:27pm Mayuko:

@Uncle Michael Haha, that's great!! Cold war era style!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm fred:

clicky-star for this Lasse Marhaug track!
  1:28pm Rickwaukee:

I listen to this while I'm getting waxed
Avatar 1:28pm Mayuko:

@ParUbi bamboo is such a nice thing, apparently as long as they're under control! I wonder if cats eat them. I want plants that cats don't vandalize.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm ParUbi:

Here's a factoid that I found interesting: "Bamboo absorbs 2x more carbon dioxide than trees, which is why they are known to act as carbon sinks. It also generates a vast amount of oxygen, totalling up to 30% more than most plants and trees. "
Avatar 1:31pm Mayuko:

Jeff G! Thanks!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm fred:

I like this Public Immorality (this statement needs context)
Avatar 1:33pm Mayuko:

So Dropof is contributing a lot to the environment protection by letting his bamboo go out of control?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Dropof Goldensun:

Mayuko, yes I am!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Dropof Goldensun:

I do like my bamboo but I have to continually keep it at bay. I didn't plant it, it was there when I bought the house. Now let me get back to sharpening my machete.
Avatar 1:37pm JakeGould:

There was exactly one crappy souvenir shop open on Canal Street yesterday and the guy was watering the bamboo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm melinda:

Bamboo is lovely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm Dropof Goldensun:

Mayuko, not sure about bamboo and cats but my dog loves to attack it viciously! My cat doesn't leave the house. Maybe I'll bring some in as an experiment for you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm fred:

If anyone wants to dabble in contemporary dance while isolating, Rosas has put up a page teaching the moves in a part of the classic Rosas Danst Rosas. You do need a chair though: www.rosas.be...
  1:38pm JosephB:

Heading out for a hike now. I'll catch everyone next week. Thanks Mayuko!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm melinda:

Japanese knotweed, which has different leaves, similar stalks, is also attractive but aggressive. And high medicinal value.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm ParUbi:

But cutting down subtropical forests for bamboo crops is not a good idea, guys
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm ParUbi:

@melinda-- knotweed is *everywhere* in my neighborhood now. Super-invasive, but the shoots are edible
  1:40pm P-90:

Bamboo is an important, even amazing plant. For many years it has been pointed out by scientists that bamboo is the plant you would want to bring if you were colonizing another planet: it grows fast; can be used to build shelter, furniture, tools, etc; the young plants are very nutritious to eat, the fibers can be woven to make sturdy fabrics, rope, and so on. And it absorbs a LOT of atmospheric CO2. So if we look at strategies for repairing and rebuilding the planet we already live on, bamboo is an enormous potential resource.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm Dropof Goldensun:

Not to dwell on the topic of bamboo but one more thing. The name of my "band" is Bamboo Time Machine. One of the guys in the band was asking me for pieces of bamboo and when I asked him what he wanted it for he said he was building a bamboo time machine and we all immediately loved the name. P-90 we constantly hear everything you just mentioned from Patrick, the guy who coined the name!
Avatar 1:42pm JakeGould:

You can also whack people in the head with bamboo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm tmoyo:

great band name Dropof!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm chresti:

I have a bamboo cutting board, also bamboo toilet paper is available, although I'm not sure it's 100% bamboo
Avatar 1:45pm coelacanth∅:

as wonderful as it is, it is not native to north america and has the potential to irreversibly obliterate the ecology.
Avatar 1:46pm Mayuko:

Yes no wonder why Japanese thought they could fight B29s air raid with bamboo coz why not? Such an amazing plant.
Avatar 1:46pm Mayuko:

@coel oh that's too bad! no native any kind of bamboo over here?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Doug Schulkind:

Please refrain from mentioning toilet paper at this particular moment.
Avatar 1:48pm coelacanth∅:

Mayuko i don't know but i've never heard of one
...knotweed nearly as bad, for the same reason
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm fred:

@coel: the same might be said about much of the US population, though
Avatar 1:49pm coelacanth∅:

(but i think there are indigenous knotweeds here)
  1:50pm P-90:

Dropof: Cool band name. Should also add in this context that hemp has many of those same qualities: grows fast, produces useful fibers, absorbs vast amounts of CO2 per kilo of growing plant material, and also fixes lots of nitrogen, meaning you can grow it almost anywhere there’s some water, than chop it down and plow it into the soil where it enriches the soil for other crops to grow. So: I’m betting we’ll see lots of hemp and bamboo planted in years to come here in North America, as our culture comes to grips with the necessity of combating climate change.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm Dropof Goldensun:

P-90, Patrick is also a very big fan of hemp and especially it's medicinal cousin!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm listener james from westwood:

Thanks, Mayuko, and stay safe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm fred:

Thanks so much Mayuko for this great show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Dropof Goldensun:

Thanks Mayuko! Everyone please stay safe!

Yes to hemp.
