I don't think I knew Jennifer Warnes went back this far
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Guido from Cologne:

"The Secret Life of J Eddy Fink" is possibly Janis' best from her teenage prodigy carreer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm Funky16Corners:

@Kris - Oh yeah, two albums for Parrot in 1967 and 1968. Both excellent
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Guido!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Funky16Corners:

I get choked up listening to Harry. One of my very favorite voices.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

oooh, Nilsson! Knew how to weave a dreamy sound…
Avatar 3:33pm Erica:

Matthew & Son's a great album by Cat Stevens. His voice sounded a bit deeper during the late 60s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Larry: Nilsson is the only singer who can make me laugh and cry at the same time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Funky16Corners:

I hope you dig the CD Granny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

YAY!!!
Avatar 3:45pm Kris Holmes:

The next prize up for grabs is Vol.1 of the Best of Hullabaloo Collection: Hit Sounds Of The Swingin' Sixties DVD thanks to MPI for this prize. A $20 pledge will get you in it to win it.
Avatar 3:47pm Erica:

Didn't even sound like Michael McDonald. Sounded like another black Motown singer. Man Michael's soulful voice had come a long way after.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm Brian in UK:

@F16C, my first LP record bought with my paper round money was Matthew and Son. Great quality pop
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm Doug Schulkind:

@Larry and Kris
Hello, gents. I just arrived at WFMU. Sorry I didn't see your emails earlier. Kris, did you get console access?
Avatar 3:51pm Kris Holmes:

yep, all good
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Doug! Ken took care of it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Doug Schulkind:

Fookin' a!
Avatar 3:55pm Erica:

I remember back in 2005 when VHS tapes were being phased out to be replaced by DVDs. Nowadays you can find DVDs in thrift stores and the bargain bins in Walmart. They're still around but Bluray and HD digital formats have taken center stage now.
Avatar 3:56pm Erica:

Just referring to Larry's DVD collecting.
Avatar 3:57pm Kris Holmes:

Next up on the prize block is Jim Sullivan's s/t LP courtesy of Light In The Attic Records
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm Funky16Corners:

@Erica - This is really the time to stock up on CDs. They are cheap and plentiful
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Brian in UK:

@Doug, Sem and Stanley should be at WFMU right now. Big hellos.
Avatar 4:00pm Erica:

Agreed Larry. Now that vinyl is back, I need to buy more CDs to add to my collection.
Avatar 4:01pm Kris Holmes:

lots of great CDs at thrift shops these days
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Funky16Corners:

I've been buying a lot of used boxed sets
Avatar 4:04pm Kris Holmes:

Thankyou Doug & Darcy for your pledges
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

I think i've had and played just about every format except wax cylinders and reel-to-reel. Yes, even Edison Diamond Discs!
Avatar 4:05pm Erica:

Where'd you find that Jim Sullivan album Larry? Sunny Jim sounds like easy listening meets 70s soft rock and country. Great mellow sound.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm Funky16Corners:

I've never taken the dive into reel to reel. Not yet, anyway
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm Funky16Corners:

@Erica - It was recently reissued, along with his first album and a set of unissued stuff. It's all very mellow and groovy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

I'm gonna try walking and listening (not something i usually do, but i am enjoying this all so much!) It is a beautiful day in San Francisco and i must get out of my isolation cell while i may!
Avatar 4:09pm Erica:

Dang this song was ahead of its time with those lyrics.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Erica: indeed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Although i think it goes in cycles. Flappers were probably onto some of this, too.
Avatar 4:10pm Erica:

It also goes from pop/rock to psychedelic pop.
Avatar 4:11pm Erica:

The song has that typical late 60s sound but the lyrics weren't something you'd hear on the radio at the time. (it mentions sex).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Brian in UK:

Irwin Had some of the Tom Wilson tapes on his show. My favourite is the Boylan Brothers as Playback as Appletree Theatre, arguably up with the best psychedlic records. One of the tricks was to use jazz musicians.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Funky16Corners:

Tom Wilson even interviews Harumi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

I hear Bessie Smith's "Empty Bed Blues" on the radio the other day and i'm fairly certain it wouldn't have been broadcast over the radio waves at the time it came out. WOW!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

of course, Bessie doesn't use the word "Sex." Mae West got arrested for that!
Avatar 4:22pm Kris Holmes:

Next prize is a 45 by The Elevator Operators courtesy of 13 O'Clock Records
Avatar 4:22pm Kris Holmes:

Thankyou Paul & Joseph for your pledges
Avatar 4:24pm Kris Holmes:
