Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Hi everybody, welcome to the entertainment part of our show!
Avatar 12:25pm Franco Twinkie:

My sisters first husband saw Blue Cheer at Newport '68. He said at one point in their set Dickie Peterson walked over to the edge of the stage and threw up into the audience! So that bit about vomiting in that promo was not just shtick, but and integral part of their business plan.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Webhamster Henry:

Amirkhanian is a powerhouse of new music presentation and of course a composer himself. COVID-19 has cancelled the Other Minds Fest for now that he runs.
Avatar 12:45pm Franco Twinkie:

Marie, good question! But that I don't know. But hey, I offer this tid-bit in consolation: Sometimes in the '80's the same Dickie Peterson came into a friends food service business and said "I was in Blue Cheer - can I have a job?" He was not given a job.
  12:48pm evan:

gonna check out amirkhanian thanks!
  12:49pm Dean:

The curator for this year's OM is a fellow, Harry Bernstein, who hosts concerts at his home here in Berkeley. Quite a line-up planned for this year.
  12:51pm Dean:

Every once in a while I confuse Charles Amirkhanian with Charles Dodge.
  12:52pm Marie:

A friend of mine got sick at a big indoor stadium show once and vomited from the balcony down on to the main floor. Those people were livid but they never did come up and hurt us.

Avatar 1:00pm Sweet Corn Lizzie:

  1:01pm Marie:

One time I passed out at a heavy metal show and fell backwards. My friends woke me up and got me a seat and then were yelling (because it was so loud) and pointing towards this guy who had a pool of vomit by him. They told me that when I fell, my head hit is stomach, causing him to vomit. :>) Mutual life-saving?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Cmurtha:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm The Oscar:

Afternoon! I remember seeing the Nairobi Trio masks at the Smithsonian on a field trip in high school and geeking out, which put me in a pretty severe minority as a teenager in the late '90s.
Avatar 1:18pm Franco Twinkie:

Marie, you can probably relate to this: This guy I knew in high school who was a hopeless drug fiend, went to see Mountain at the Hollywood Palladium. The day after the show I asked him how it was and I said "I dunno, I took some reds and slept on the floor through the whole show. When I woke up, it was over." A few years ago I saw him fishing stuff out of a dumpster behind a gas station. Sad but true.

  1:51pm Listener Robert:

I just got some more money in my PayPal, so on the theory that if all the donors went "up yours" by 50%, we'd go over the goal, but the increment in my case is less than $10. Anyone here know if there's a way to "up yours" online by less than $10?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Jeff Golick:

(And you can up that by emailing upyours@wfmu.org -- does that count as online?)
