Time to conglipt some donations.

Good morning, let's all reset out circadian rhythms!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08am Jeff Golick:

Good morning, @John from Florham park!
Avatar 9:09am DJpeterDE:

I read up on this album when I saw it in the slideshow, but wasn't prepared for how it would make me feel.

It's strangely moving, @DJpeterDE.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32am Stephen O:

Good Morning. Beautiful start, Jeff!
Avatar 9:33am hyde:

i sort of forgot about this Hood record. it's really great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am Jeff Golick:

Agreed, @hyde! HellO, @Stephen O.!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am Stephen O:

That Mary Lattimore can do no wrong. I love how frequently I hear those signature notes on WFMU and I don't even need to check the playlist to know that it is her.
Avatar 9:39am Listener Gregory:

If this is atmospheric music, then "Tatas-matoes" is stratospheric music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am fred:

Hello Jeff, Scott and all
@Scott: when are you coming back with a regular show?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am Jeff Golick:

Greetings, listener @fred!

Scott says...2025?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am fred:

Scott, I'm going to hold you to that, but I hope it's sooner
Avatar 10:00am Sem:

Hello, D:O'ers and dreamers, Jeff the G, boss jock of Sunday Drummer Stream mornings, hangers-about, hang gliders, gilders of lilies, and the surprised stream surfer who finds themselves here. Please pledge and support this program, jazz folk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am doctorjazz:

Hi, daylight savings time late arrival!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02am doctorjazz:

(I Love piano trios, fall asleep to sombre ECM trio most nights)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am fred:

@doctorjazz: This is the time when you can spend money without bringing more stuff home. Though you'll probably win something and thwart your wife's hopes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14am fred:

Marcus Belgrave! I'm probably wrong, but I associate him with the Tribe label from Detroit
Avatar 10:15am DJpeterDE:

Woo this Belgrave! I have Gemini (I) but not this one.
  10:15am Dean:

doctorjazz, Do you know Laurence Hobgood's trio with Paul Wertico and Brian Torf, Union? They have two records, as far as I know, both on Naim Records. Worth checking out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15am Jeff Golick:

@Sem! Welcome and thank you!
@doctorjazz! No time like now.
@fred: I think you requested Belgrave some time back..?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am Jeff Golick:

@Dean, checking in from the left coast!
Avatar 10:17am Listener Gregory:

Wow, I won something! Thanks, Jeff and Scott.
  10:17am Dean:

Later than usual, except not really.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am fred:

@Jeff: I probably did, I love his music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am doctorjazz:

Fred...Mr wife appreciates your concern...
I'm actually splitting up a Swag For Life pledge, so the ONLY thing that comes out of it (aside from credit to the show I pledge to), is WINNING ALBUMS!
Can't hang today, though, leaving in a bit, but GIVE TO D.O., y'all.
(On a side note, I think I'll finally make it to Downtown Music Gallery tonight to see Kurt Gottchaulk...we'll see how much stuff I leave there with...)

Avatar 10:30am DJpeterDE:

i'm having a hard time believing the trumpet (behind Eddie Jefferson) is Joe Newman!
  10:32am Jeff Conklin:

This Eddie Jefferson is so great rn. Never heard!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am Jeff Golick:

@zzz! Glad you heard it.
Fellow @Jeff, Mr Conklin!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am doctorjazz:

Gotta go, maybe catch you at the end.
(Dean, just noticed your comment, been driving. Don't know Hobgood, seems worth checking out. I know NAIM put out music that isas good sounding as it is engaging, maybe more engaging because it is so good in the audio department.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am Scott McDowell:

Hey everyone pledge and support Jeff and D:O Radio!
  10:39am Dean:

Indeed, Naim produces impressive sound.

Avatar 10:48am Listener Gregory:

Algorithms are our friends!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am Brian in UK:

Good luck Jeff and Scott.
Avatar 10:49am hyde:

down with algorithms!
  10:49am Dean:

I've been hostile since I first read Vannevar Bush's "As We May Think," decades ago. The hubris of undisciplined technophiles is boundless. (Granted, this comment is more appropriate for Mark Hurst's program.)
Avatar 10:52am Listener Gregory:

There was an article in the Times how luxury housing was driving people out of their homes, and the ad algorithm placed an ad for luxury apartments in Brooklyn next to the story. Whoops!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am fred:

@Listener Gregory: That's not a bug, it's a feature. "You can get this amazing investment, and we throw in the fun of kicking out unwealthy people for free!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am Jeff Golick:

WE ARE NOT ROBOTS.
Heya, @Dave! @ParUbi! @GST! @Brian in UK!
Avatar 10:59am Listener Gregory:

@fred, there are people in this world who would enjoy that, I guess.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am Uncle Michael:

Jeff! Scott!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am Jeff Golick:

@UM!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am Uncle Michael:

Daylight Savings Time is a HOAX. Lamestream media! Fake news!
  11:04am Dean:

Can I get a notarized letter to that effect for my employer, UM?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

UM: Does anybody really know what time it is?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am Uncle Michael:

It's 25 (or six to four).
Avatar 11:07am Listener Gregory:

BTW, re: this Joe Henderson cut, I have identified that I am definitely part of the problem.
  11:08am Dean:

...CDT if you're in Chicago.
  11:09am Doug Schulkind:

Destination WOO!
Avatar 11:09am hyde:

i like those articles in the NYT that are about how creepy advertising tracking cookies are that are all on web pages where they don't tell you that they are filled with creepy advertising tracking cookies
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am Uncle Michael:

I need a recipe for creepy tracking cookies.
  11:14am Doug Schulkind:

This track isn’t quite funky enough.
Avatar 11:15am Sem:

Are brown recluse spiders part of that recipe, I wonder, UM?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am Uncle Michael:

Sem, lord knows I have plenty of those. Care to open a box in my basement?
Avatar 11:16am Listener Gregory:

@Doug, thinking the same thing. And who is this lame drummer?
Avatar 11:17am DJpeterDE:

@LG NTU Troupe drummer was Howard King
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am Uncle Michael:

This is fucking GREAT. Fool Proof? Never heard of them.
  11:18am Doug Schulkind:

He is my king.
Avatar 11:18am Listener Gregory:

@DJPDE, thanks! I don't know his work.
Avatar 11:19am DJpeterDE:

@LG me neither! Apparently he also recorded with Carlos Garnett, and (get this) one record with the Heath Brothers.
Avatar 11:20am Sem:

Boss shit, here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am Jeff Golick:

Fool Proof was kind of an 80s supergroup.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

YES!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

(Yes to this Peter Gordon eruption and yes to all you funny commentatorz!)
  11:24am Dean:

I work about a block from the building where this Gordon/Tyranny record ws recorded. Even heard The Residents there. But a few years ago the building was shuttered and fenced in, having been deemed seismically unsafe. Now there's a new art museum and film archive in town.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am fred:

My pledge didn't get credited to this show for some reason. I did it again, and it seemed to work this time. Still, I'm not happy about this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am Jeff Golick:

Got it @fred! But both are beautiful!
Swag For Life Member 11:26am zzz:

was waiting to hear what ‘trust in rock’ was all about. whoa!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

THEY go by Jaina sometimes! HI!!!
  11:34am John from Florham park:

YAY Granny
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Hi, John!
Avatar 11:35am Listener Gregory:

Woodpecker outside my house has been providing a competing funky beat. Very distracting.
  11:36am Dean:

Honestly, I think travel is overrated, a weak substitute for reading.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am Uncle Michael:

GST, is "I" not gender-neutral?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am Doug Schulkind:

Give the Drummer Radio is uniquely positioned to step in for WFMU when the apocalypse arrives. Remember when the Drummer Stream saved WFMU during Hurricane Sandy?

Step in and step up for Give the Drummer Radio and D:O Radio and

Avatar 11:39am Listener Gregory:

Jeff deserves combat pay for crossing the two tunnels to another state on the same day we lost an hour.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am fred:

Thanks Jeff and Scott!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am Jeff Golick:

Hey, @rw!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

I applies to everyone, indeed. However if i refer to Uncle Michael as "I," confusion would ensue. We wouldn't want THAT would we? (We is neutral, too. In English, at least)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am Jeff Golick:

@Andrew Waterloo!
Avatar 11:40am DJpeterDE:

@UM I think Granny was referred to by Jeff on the mic as "she" instead of "they"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

(UM: I was correcting the use of "she" when they were thanking me)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am Jeff Golick:

@GST! Sorry for the mis-gendering!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Yeah, that! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am Uncle Michael:

Ahh...I get it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

'salright, Jeff. <3 I blame society.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am Uncle Michael:

I'm a gender-neutral Uncle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am fred:

@GST: Do you mind confusion?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Even though i've had my pronouns in my name for almost a year, most folx still don't get it. Still, e persisted!
  11:43am John from Florham park:

@Granny as long as you are a decent human being, I could care less what gender you are
Avatar 11:43am DJpeterDE:

after years of insisting (when editing) that "they" should be replaced by "he or she," it has been challenging to start using "they" as a singular pronoun -- but every time I do it, it gets a little easier, and maybe before too long it will become automatic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

fred: you know i love confusion! (I also dig respect)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am Andrew Waterloo:

Matana always has the best stories. Saw her perform last year. She flew in from Germany just long enough for her set. I have only seen her solo so far.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am doctorjazz:

This Roberts track is fabulous (had to
Pull over to post!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

DJpeterDE: trivia tidbit: "YOU" started out as PLURAL and has slowly mutated into use as singular. Thee/thou/thine is singular. Just sayin'…
  11:45am Leonardo:

I'm tired of being a man. I'm tired of being a white man. I'm tired of being a straight white man. Can't somebody else take the fuck over?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am Doug Schulkind:

Apologies, Granny Spicy Tuna. You have every right to demand respect. And you don't need me saying so. And you don't need me saying what you need.
  11:46am Dean:

Start with John Stoltenberg's Refusing to Be a Man.
Avatar 11:47am DJpeterDE:

@Granny: absolutely. A lot of the "rules" of grammar are actually recent inventions, or things that one influential person really pushed hard. (e.g., I say go ahead and split that infinitive! Strunk & White were very influential but they pretty much made that rule up)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Doug: i appreciate your thoughtfulness. I always sense a lot of respect in your space (here on GTDR and WFMU in general)
  11:47am John from Florham park:

@Granny in all seriousness I have always had a lot of respect for you,.YOU ROCK
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

DJpeterDE: Strunk & White can really polarize folx!
Avatar 11:48am Listener Gregory:

@DJpeterDE, my understanding is that the split infinitive prohibition came about in the 19th century based on Latin as a model. Because Latin infinitives are just one word, they can't be split. Therefore, English shouldn't split its two-word infinitives! QED
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49am Brian in UK:

Sad thing is that a lot of people (men) patronise others and would be surprised if it was pointed out to them.
  11:49am John from Florham park:

I am learning more about grammar on the board then I did in school
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Brian in UK: it has been observed that privilege is easier to see "looking up" rather than "looking down." I can't see the privileges i have that others don't, and feel shocked when they are pointed out. So i allow myself to experience that discomfort without whining.
Avatar 11:50am DJpeterDE:

@LG yes, Latin was often the justification, but a weird one, no?
Avatar 11:51am DJpeterDE:

@Granny: beautifully put.
Avatar 11:51am hyde:

i only know about split infinitives because of "Ball of Fire" with Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

John from Florham park: this is why i love WFMU and it is my main social media.

Jeff, thanks!
Avatar 11:52am Listener Gregory:

I heard a teacher say that if you learned Latin, your grades would go up, because Latin is a highly "logical" language.
Avatar 11:52am DJpeterDE:

@hyde: and Star Trek. "to boldly go"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am fred:

@GST: You did change your preferred pronouns. Your can do that whenever you want. But give some time for people to adjust. Or don't. Your choice. But then it's no longer my choice to be ally or enemy. I think I'm already the latter
  11:53am John from Florham park:

@DJpeterDE I second that@Granny you don’t have to justify your existence to anyone or anybody
Avatar 11:53am hyde:

@DJPeterDE haha, yes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am Doug Schulkind:

@GST
I think people are trying and caring, but we have to continually strive to do and be better. At least in this space, when there is "confusion," the result can lead to more conversation and education.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am Andrew Waterloo:

There is also something about learning grammer in a second language. In your native language you master most of the mechanics before you understand them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

fred: i'm not sure i understand what you're saying

it's easy to misread tone in text. I just want to make it clear to everyone that i am not upset or angry at all. I simply practice speaking up on my behalf.
  11:56am John from Florham park:

@Granny and there a lot of knowledgeable folks on here who know what the hell they are talking about djs included
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

In fact, i feel happy to receive such kind and thoughtful support from folx here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am Scott McDowell:

It’s time people!
Avatar 11:57am hyde:

thanks for the tunes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am Uncle Michael:

Thank, Jeff! Thanks, Scott!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am Andrew Waterloo:

I have made my final SFL pledge
Avatar 11:58am Listener Gregory:

Thanks very much Jeff and Scott. Godspeed through the tunnels home!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am fred:

@GST: I apologize, and I sent you a contact request if you're inclined to hash it out privately
  11:58am John from Florham park:

@Granny you will always get that here from us
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am Andrew Waterloo:

Now I need to figure out which premiums to get
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

fred: sure! i've always enjoyed our exchanges and think you've been quite respectful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am Doug Schulkind:

Good luck with that, Andrew Waterloo!
