Good morning, Carol Crow! Morning other lone chat room attendee. What part of Europe ? I have traveled through Europe expansively and resided in France for a couple of years. It's 6:04am by the way.

@Buddha of Suburbia: Hamburg, Germany – rainy noon here. :)

I already broke when the music started
  6:08am Buddha of Suburbia:

Pablexa, i heard about Spamoni. I know u were closer friends and emailed him etc. I share in your sorrow. He was such a sweet person. And I was honored to when he used to call me his"medical angel." He was amazing with how he handled everything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09am Ignatatus666:

Rest In Peace Spamoni
This was a message from his son David

Yes unfortunately he passed Monday morning but he was comfortable and with loved ones. We have not yet made decisions on the memorial service but will keep you posted. And yes he sure did get the Risk Board game! Haha
  6:10am John from Florham park:

@Buddha he fought the good fight
  6:12am Buddha of Suburbia:

Oh dear! My grammatical mash up is evidence I still have sleep in my eyes. Hope u can understand my post, Pablexa. I know Ignatus666..it's strange without him. Love the name Dean. Was Spamoni from Fast Times at Ridgemont High?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13am David (in London):

Morning Carol and all Moonlighters. Hey John and hi Buddha.
Avatar 6:14am fred:

We're all missing Dean/spamoni.
@Carol: Thanks for last week's set, it was the most moving thing I've heard on WFMU, and something that can only happen on this station
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15am Pablexa RIP Spamoni:

@Buddha I only knew him as well as I know you - We are just a community here - A weird little radio community of folks that have never met, but still...…...know each other

Hi David in London! Hello JFFP!

  6:23am Buddha of Suburbia:

Agreed David. I remember one time he mentioned his son was visiting and wanted to take him out for breakfast and how he made him wait to finish listening to this show. He was a huge fan and was hooked on the friendships made here.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28am Pablexa RIP Spamoni:

Hey Elaine my Mpls buddy - Still dark out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29am David (in London):

@Buddha. Being a (now) aging Brit, I treat all chat boards with a certain degree of emotional distance. Nevertheless I consider a number of people I've got to know here as friends, and really enjoy being part of the global community it makes. The fact that spamoni drew strength from it during such a crappy period in his life, and that so many were so glad to give of themselves, speaks volumes.
  6:30am John from Florham park:

@Pabelxa would love to see an upvote button
Avatar 6:30am Brian in UK:

Hello Carol and sad folks.

Was just about to write that it is sunny, but the capricious weather is raining now.
Avatar 6:32am Sem:

Hello, David. All well there, I hope.
BiUK showed us some pictures of the recent Severn flooding near him, heart-stopping.

The flock of mourning doves I feed each winter day has arrived, fluttering down from the butternut tree like October leaves in a light breeze.
  6:32am John from Florham park:

@david in London when I first happened on the weird wonderful station I really did not know what to make of the chats, still don’t know at times:)

@Brian most of the weekend DJs have 3 shows which by the third show might be somewhat punchy:)
  6:35am adrian elaine:

i always dig some Oliveros and Dempster in a cistern - my driving around music for months on end last year was that multiple trombone record Dempster did in a cistern
Avatar 6:36am Brian in UK:

@John have you been to bed yet?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36am David (in London):

Hey Brian. Bit overcast here in the metropolis today, but thankfully still dry. I even managed a walk on Hackney Marshes yesterday. Great impromptu lakes had formed, but flocks of wading birds. Jesus, I hope that the worst of it is past now.
  6:37am John from Florham park:

@brian just woke up about 30 minutes ago
  6:37am Buddha of Suburbia:

I know Spamoni was hoping to make it to his son's wedding, which is probably very soon.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17am David (in London):

Even by WFMU standards, this show is a highlight. Consistently mind-blowing week after week. Hats off to CC.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21am David (in London):

Always latterly thought of Kerouac as something akin to a counter-cultural version of Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar': you have to read it at the right age, you don't need to go back to it until you become a parent and see it again through someone else's eyes, but it's a great part of one's development and learning about the world.

I’m not absent I’m on a mental hiatus
But I just read a message sent to me in reference to one of my silly for sale posts on market place. I listed rocks that my dog brings home. 3 random rocks for 419.00 licked clean by my dog. Here is his message :
I have massive stone collections , over a thousand Indian artifacts and mined out 100’s of tons of glacial deposit and feel confidant in my experience and knowledge of working with stone over 50 years to identify your stone as a leaverite.
*How do I explain to him they have been verified to be Carolytes?
Ok going back to the headphones
PMA Carol. Thanks again

Read all JK and The Beats as a kid growing up in Paterson NJ.
While there’s something to be said for knowing the authors life and how it shaped the work, I think that their books are sometimes better without the back story.
Avatar 8:26am TDK60:

I found Kerouac poetic even in his prose. He and his friends (Ginsberg, etc.) tried to break us out of our Puritan/suburban/Fifties stiffness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27am ParUbi:

Alan Watts was also part of that mix for me. @TDK-- those two were so important for me in developing my identity against Catholic high school
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30am David (in London):

@ParUbi. Agreed. And the associated New York School of poetry, too, Ron Padgett, Ted Berrigan, Frank O'Hara et al. They had a profound influence on me.
Avatar 8:32am Brian in UK:

Funny, never read Kerouac until I tried Dhama Bums last year. Left it half way.
Teen years were more Radiguet, Dickens and Boris Vian (translations were a bit too trendy though) Oh and Stefan Zweig a little later.
Avatar 8:32am Lixiviated Life:

@TDK60 I agree.
@ParUbi Jack always identified as a Catholic. He gave me the definition of my faith on a WF Buckley show.

  8:53am Earth Walker:

Sometimes unfortunately we’re all in disguise.
  8:53am Listener Robert:

By the way, Abbie Hoffman at the Laissez Faire Supper Club of Manhattan (early 1980s) was absolutely hilarious, referring to the Daily News and Post as Zingo and Wingo by their contests. By contrast Timothy Leary in the late 1980s was rather dull, pretty much outshined by Robert Anton Wilson, who introduced him, at a demo of virtual reality.
