Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19pm chresti:

It was on KLON, Long Beach, too, the Johnny Otis show
Avatar 9:20pm Franco Twinkie:

Carmichael, Johnny Otis was on KPPC in Pasadena in the early '70's every Monday night. He would have Frank Zappa on and they would talk about the good old days at the El Monte Legion Stadium. A few years later I saw Johnny and Shuggie opening for The Mothers.
  9:21pm Carmichael:

I remember the intro, Johnny OTIS! Johnny OTIS!
Avatar 9:21pm Franco Twinkie:

  9:21pm Carmichael:

Wow ...
  9:24pm Carmichael:

Hand Jive? Was that the song?
  9:24pm stubs:

ORALE! I knew I heard Chente from the other room!
Avatar 9:27pm Franco Twinkie:

Yeah, Willie And The Hand Jive was the one that would get a lot of airplay. The one that would NOT get any airplay was The Signifiyin' Monkey off of Cold Shot, with Delmar Evans.
  9:28pm Carmichael:

Apologies to Shuggie. Your dad was famous, but we still love you.
Avatar 9:29pm Franco Twinkie:

Also, Put My Spell On You was a wonderful bit of hoodoo nonsense.
Avatar 9:31pm coelacanth∅:

hola Marty y camaradas
  9:32pm CC:

Bongos are so crazy!!!
Avatar 9:33pm Franco Twinkie:

Johnny would have all his friends in his review. I really liked Marie Adams And Her Three Tons Of Joy. Plus size women dirty dancing and tearing the roof off the place.

Dandy Nelson envies these bongoes!

some of these lyrics are really amazing to me!!!
  9:57pm CC:

you can't just sit down and write these kind of lyrics in a couple of hours... and you probably have to rehearse singing them for at least a couple of months over and over?!?

Did he just say 'moose cock'? Seriously. I think I heard it, and it's the punchline to one of my favorite jokes.
  11:14pm CC:

I think it would be harder learning lyrics to these kinds of songs than even Bob Dylan songs!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm Cliff back in the U.S.S.A.:

I know this dude at work named Rakeem
  11:16pm CC:

I can't help thinking about that David Bowie song where he said that his brain hurts like a warehouse!?!...

@Mr Pumpy - great debut indeed. the 2nd of their 3 produced by the recently passed Andy Weatherall.
  11:40pm spodiodi:

good music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm Cooh John:

Clicky star
Avatar 11:42pm coelacanth∅:

i once had a relaxed conversation with Carrie Brownstein who, as you might know, copped the windmill move from Pete (in tribute) and didn't think to ask her how many strings she broke trying to get it down.
i should've, as i'm counting on never meeting Mr.Townsend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42pm Andrew Waterloo:

I remember seeing them live on this tour. Half the audience had no idea what was going on.
  11:43pm bo:

you're just slaying here in Baltimore Marty
  11:44pm CC:

if I ever had to go to the doctor I think I would pick a lady doctor???
Avatar 11:44pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm Mr. Pumpy:

@java...word RIP
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm Mr. Pumpy:

@Andrew...that is amazing...and sad! I'd have it no other way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm Mr. Pumpy:

@coelacanth∅ I don't know about her...but I have done it many times and may have only broke 1:100...as a ratio. However, I was pretty aware of the fact I may break strings...and not all pumped up by having a thousand or so geezers eyeing me.
Avatar 11:47pm coelacanth∅:

i'd pronounce "psch" as sick; but i don't have to pronounce it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48pm Mr. Pumpy:

I like that you qualified the conversation as being relaxed...and I think/i know why you did. Nothing worse than those obnoxious one-offs.
Avatar 11:49pm coelacanth∅:

haha we -er, they weren't *always* geezers!
Avatar 11:51pm coelacanth∅:

yeah it was after a (sleater-kinney) show that hardly anyone showed up for and we just walked behind the stage. she gave us a hug and just wanted to chill.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52pm Mr. Pumpy:

That's a Townshend thing I picked up on over the years. He loves calling the crowd geezers. One of the best lines, I think it's in The Kids Are Alright...he is talking about the silliness of being appreciated/worshipped (as he is wont to) and he says something like, "You know, you do something on stage and a thousand geezers sort of go, 'AHHHHHH!'"
Avatar 11:53pm coelacanth∅:

...and, not being a guitarist i can't qualify my assumptions about broken strings
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm Andrew Waterloo:

@Mr. Pumpy they were opening for Caribou for whatever reason drew in a lot of indie rock fans who didn't understand how music could be made from toys and pedals.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm Mr. Pumpy:

She does seem down to earth...glad to hear she is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm Mr. Pumpy:

Caribou are okay...I guess, but I lean towards my Fuck Buttons. Hopefully they opened a few peoples craniums and let the sun shine in.
Avatar 11:54pm coelacanth∅:

haha did he say that even when he was playing to teenagers about "my generation"?
  11:54pm CC:

this is a great tune!!!
  11:56pm CC:

I'm not trying to sound like Donald Trump or anything... the word 'great' just came to mind???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm Blues Mandinga:

Avatar 11:57pm coelacanth∅:

i lean toward the fuck buttons too. in fact i could press them all day
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm Andrew Waterloo:

I preferred Caribou under the Manitoba moniker. Much more chaotic. Two live drum sets.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm Mr. Pumpy:

He was, and is, always critical about his part in the nonsense, and I'm sure it incensed his bandmates. He is a bit of a tortured individual...and I get it. Here is the actual quote, and it explains it a bit more, "You have to resign yourself to the fact that a large part of the audience is sort of thick, you know, and don't appreciate quality however much you put it over. The fact that our group hasn't - hasn't got any quality. It's just musical sensationalism. You do something big on the stage and a thousand geezers sort of go, "Ah!". It's just basic Shepherds Bush enjoyment."
Avatar 11:58pm coelacanth∅:

Thanks Marty!
  11:59pm CC:

great show Marty!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00am Mr. Pumpy:

Danke Marty.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00am Ken From Hyde Park:
