Carmichael, Johnny Otis was on KPPC in Pasadena in the early '70's every Monday night. He would have Frank Zappa on and they would talk about the good old days at the El Monte Legion Stadium. A few years later I saw Johnny and Shuggie opening for The Mothers.

i once had a relaxed conversation with Carrie Brownstein who, as you might know, copped the windmill move from Pete (in tribute) and didn't think to ask her how many strings she broke trying to get it down.
i should've, as i'm counting on never meeting Mr.Townsend.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm
Mr. Pumpy:

@coelacanth∅ I don't know about her...but I have done it many times and may have only broke 1:100...as a ratio. However, I was pretty aware of the fact I may break strings...and not all pumped up by having a thousand or so geezers eyeing me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm
coelacanth∅:

i'd pronounce "psch" as sick; but i don't have to pronounce it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48pm
Mr. Pumpy:

I like that you qualified the conversation as being relaxed...and I think/i know why you did. Nothing worse than those obnoxious one-offs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49pm
coelacanth∅:

haha we -er, they weren't *always* geezers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm
coelacanth∅:

yeah it was after a (sleater-kinney) show that hardly anyone showed up for and we just walked behind the stage. she gave us a hug and just wanted to chill.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52pm
Mr. Pumpy:

That's a Townshend thing I picked up on over the years. He loves calling the crowd geezers. One of the best lines, I think it's in The Kids Are Alright...he is talking about the silliness of being appreciated/worshipped (as he is wont to) and he says something like, "You know, you do something on stage and a thousand geezers sort of go, 'AHHHHHH!'"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm
coelacanth∅:

...and, not being a guitarist i can't qualify my assumptions about broken strings
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm
Andrew Waterloo:

@Mr. Pumpy they were opening for Caribou for whatever reason drew in a lot of indie rock fans who didn't understand how music could be made from toys and pedals.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm
Mr. Pumpy:

She does seem down to earth...glad to hear she is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm

Caribou are okay...I guess, but I lean towards my Fuck Buttons. Hopefully they opened a few peoples craniums and let the sun shine in.

I preferred Caribou under the Manitoba moniker. Much more chaotic. Two live drum sets.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm
Mr. Pumpy:

He was, and is, always critical about his part in the nonsense, and I'm sure it incensed his bandmates. He is a bit of a tortured individual...and I get it. Here is the actual quote, and it explains it a bit more, "You have to resign yourself to the fact that a large part of the audience is sort of thick, you know, and don't appreciate quality however much you put it over. The fact that our group hasn't - hasn't got any quality. It's just musical sensationalism. You do something big on the stage and a thousand geezers sort of go, "Ah!". It's just basic Shepherds Bush enjoyment."
