Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

Who could ask for more at the COPA?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:05pm doctorjazz:

Hi Dancing Fools!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:06pm Webhamster Henry:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08pm WR:

I was going to make a joke about the stream playing Cowboy Copas before your show being good lead in for your show, and then you start with Copa cabana. STRETCH.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12pm Webhamster Henry:

You should check out Bea Lillie doing "I went to a Marvelous Party" (and everything else she sings).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm WR:

that was seemless going from Stritch to Coward, seemed the same accompanist and one voice slipped in for the other.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm Webhamster Henry:

"It's a Boy's Life" is like that great "No Dames!" bit from HAIL, CAESAR !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm Bronwyn Bishop:

@Henry: It is sort of like an early prototpye, but even less subtle as it's from a musical set in a world where gay relationships are the norm, and the protagonists are an explicitly gay couple (in 1975!!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm Webhamster Henry:

"Ivor Novello" (Jeremy Northam) makes an appearance in Altman's "Gosford Park".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37pm doctorjazz:

Saw Groundhogs Day, liked it (and didn't expect to).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm doctorjazz:

Fits nicely following the nuns.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43pm Bronwyn Bishop:

@WR @ 7:13: Thanks!! I was a bit stressed about that transition because the Stritch track cuts off really abruptly so I'm relieved that I pulled it off lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47pm WR:

doctorjazz, you mean the movie or the musical? I first saw the movie a few months ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:49pm Webhamster Henry:

Jeez this 1992 Sondheim tribute was very uneven. But it's best for "Broadway Baby" and the stunning "Green Finch and Linnet Bird" by Harolyn Blackwell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50pm Webhamster Henry:

This was during that period where there were more Sondheim Tributes around than shows.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm WR:

and I've just learned a bit about Tim Minchin so I am less leery of the Groundhog Day musical than I was at first.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm doctorjazz:

I saw the movie when it came out, but I was referring to the musical in the post
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm diciassette:

Bernadette Peters just pops out of that album cover, doesn't she
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Tim Minchin is great as a songwriter and a performer - I like his song "The Song for Phil Daoust"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01pm Uncle Michael:

I missed Sherie Scott? She's from HERE.
Avatar 8:10pm JakeGould:

Gah! These colors.

Hello Bronwyn B!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:11pm Cmurtha:

HOW IS IT I JUST LEARNED THAT YOU ARE ON THE AIR, JUST NOT STATION AIR? Also, at a time that I can hear now that I am back in the states.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm Webhamster Henry:

You usually don't do themes, but a little Harold Rome tribute would be nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm Cmurtha:

I wish Satan would buy me drinks and call, not to be edgy but, It'd probably add some odd spice to life. How many Faustian Bargains are you allowed per call?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Hello old comments buddy JakeGould!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Cmurtha is back!!!

I had an acquaintance in high school who swore up and down she had summoned Satan. "Satan got all up in my grill," she said.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm Cmurtha:

I am sad to see according to google there is no Gypsy does Gypsy...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm Cmurtha:

What does one do when the devil fronts?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm Bronwyn Bishop:

@Henry: Great idea!! I <3 Harold Rome!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm Webhamster Henry:

Sing Out, June!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34pm Uncle Michael:

Another Broadway brush with greatness: Me and mom waiting outside the stage door to meet up with Bobby LuPone, Patti's brother, when he was in the original cast of A Chorus Line.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm Webhamster Henry:

I saw the Tyne Daly version of Gypsy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50pm Bronwyn Bishop:

@Uncle Michael: Did you know him? My friend Susan went to high school with him and has the same story about meeting up with him outside the stage door!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50pm Bronwyn Bishop:

@Henry: How was it? I've heard wildly polarizing opinions on Ms Daly's performance
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm Uncle Michael:

My mom knew him because she worked at the Goodman in Chicago, where he'd been in Sam Shepard's Tooth of Crime.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53pm Cmurtha:

Thanks for the show, which I will have to try and catch now since I know it exists!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55pm Webhamster Henry:

@BB I don't remember much about it except "All I Need is the Girl", which actually gave you an idea of how great a simple, straightforward Vaudeville number could be.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56pm Uncle Michael:

Nope...the show after that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56pm Cmurtha:

I think it starts in march
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57pm WR:

Thank you for another fabulous show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm Webhamster Henry:

I'm friends with Michael Sansonia, who I think was a musical director of the Orpheum version of Little Shop. My kid was in a local production as one of the Audrey IIs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm diciassette:

Thanks Bronwyn!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01pm Webhamster Henry:

Thanks for crate digging the Broadway Bin!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01pm Uncle Michael:

I saw Lee Wilkof in a NON-musical...written by...George M Cohan.
