Avatar 2:02pm worldsworstrecords:

Hi Otis, GG, Jan, and the erst of my wonderful WWRRS family
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm ARB:

I can't stop listening to that Genesis song you played several weeks ago and....
Avatar 2:03pm Martinibomb:

Hi WWR!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm Rich in Washington:

Helloooooo!
Avatar 2:03pm worldsworstrecords:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm ARB:

I think I might actually Like it
Avatar 2:03pm worldsworstrecords:

Hey Rich!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm ARB:

What do I do????
Avatar 2:03pm worldsworstrecords:

I'm sure Phil C and co will be happy to know that ARB!
2:03pm Dave In St Albans UK:

Hi Darryl. How appropriate, I am putting out the weekly rubbish whilst listening to your fab show.
Avatar 2:04pm worldsworstrecords:

hahaha! Thanks Dave: I did mine before I went on air!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Chris just said: "Where's Darryl's show?" And I told him that this was in fact your show, and he replied: "But I thought he played the world's worst records?? These aren't bad records at all." :-)
Avatar 2:06pm worldsworstrecords:

the first one was certainly a bit of a corker
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Who ARE you?? What have you done with the World's Worst Records??? ;-)
Avatar 2:07pm worldsworstrecords:

I'm trying to shake it up a bit, but there's some real rubbish on the way :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm Otis Fodder:

All good cuts here, where is Darryl?
Avatar 2:08pm Martinibomb:

Bruce Haack on worlds worst records...say whaaaaaaaat?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

^ Otis and I smell a conspiracy! ;-)
Avatar 2:09pm worldsworstrecords:

hey MB... it's all subjective, isn't it?
Avatar 2:09pm worldsworstrecords:

I can't just play Mrs Miller and Little Marcy!
2:09pm Dave In St Albans UK:

Has Darryl succeeded in skewing our tastes down a notch or two. This is the new "normal"?
  2:10pm Listener Robert:

I always get Alan mixed up with Aaron in terms of Copelands, but I guess that was the idea.
Avatar 2:10pm worldsworstrecords:

hahaha! Could be, Dave
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

So come clean Pharrell Hillock, you imposter! - what have you done with Darryl Bullock?? ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Rich in Washington:

I'm digging it!
One person's floor is another's Shaggs' Own Thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm ARB:

That's what I'm saying! I listen to the dregs of Phil Collins in my regular life now...
Avatar 2:11pm Martinibomb:

@WWR you keep telling me you can't do a 2hr show because you'd run out... but if it's all subjective?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Arb - but ... but ... Phil Collins is a God!!! A God, I tell you! ;-)
Avatar 2:11pm worldsworstrecords:

heh! Don't worry... it's gets a bit more WWR after this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm Rich in Washington:

My poor sweetie is so used to me listening to 'bad' music that the only time she's ever expressed confusion was when I listen to Micah's Music of Mind Control and asked why I was listening to such boring, bland music.
Avatar 2:12pm worldsworstrecords:

That's a fair point, MB
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm braced :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm Otis Fodder:

I like it, I do! Totally, WWR is always subjective. But here, this is some gooooood stuff big D. Just don't play American Pie (unless it's The Brady Bunch version) like Greg played on Monday. Ha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Otis - your American Pie is my Popcorn ;-)
2:13pm Dave In St Albans UK:

We are all travelling in a musical elevator and the direction is permanently set to go down. Thank you Darryl.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Darryl! Hello! :-) lol
Avatar 2:13pm Martinibomb:

I agree that WWR is a subjective show and the context of what he plays next to other songs is important. This is why I would make the argument that he'd never run out of material.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm Rich in Washington:

I remember a time when Lee and Nancy were considered 'bad', kitschy, etc. It's all so subjective.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm Otis Fodder:

Shall we link to the 72 or 720 versions of Popcorn on the WFMU blog again? Ha!

"The Percolator" is Popcorn's grandpappy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

To be fair, I *adore* Golden Earring so all very, very subjective :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

72 versions of Popcorn??? Are you trying to kill me? LOL!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm Otis Fodder:

Yep, I never stopped loving Xanadu, and shouted my love growing up in school..l today's it's cool, but back then, I don't know how I escaped getting beat up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm Otis Fodder:

Oops... 79 Versions! blog.wfmu.org...
Avatar 2:15pm Martinibomb:

I like the music but damn Otis.. Xanadu the movie SUCKS! I dunno what to say Lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Same with Abba - you couldn't admit that you loved Abba or ELO at my school in the 70s. Even tho I loved them both. Instant kicking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm Rich in Washington:

I still say that culture is an ugly sweater that's unraveling at the same rate it's being knit and you'll never run out of bad music/art/movies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm Otis Fodder:

Soundtrack MB, not movie. Soundtrack.
Avatar 2:16pm Martinibomb:

Anyone watch that Densha Otoko series I posted? It relies heavily on ELO
Avatar 2:17pm worldsworstrecords:

that's a good point Rich... but i could end up just playing bad house, rap, grime and garage
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm Otis Fodder:

Yep, long time ABBA lover. Even Erasure covering ABBA!
  2:17pm Listener Robert:

A lot of it is setting and expectations. Years ago I sat in the car in the driveway of my friends' new home, and asked their son Drew, 8 years old or so, if he wanted to lower his musical taste, which he very much did, so we listened to Irwin's Incorrect Music segment (successor to his old Atrocious Music segment), which came in his last hour. That led into Bob Brainen's opening, and Drew laughed at the xylophones in his opening theme, "Image". I had to explain to him that the funny program was over.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

79 versions of Popcorn is my idea of Hell. Actually, my idea of Hell is being locked, alone, in a pitch black cinema being forced to watch the Breakfast Club on a loop and having only grilled tomatoes and liquorice to eat and blackcurrant juice to drink.
Avatar 2:18pm Martinibomb:

Densha Otoko also uses a Popcorn-esque track extensively
Avatar 2:18pm worldsworstrecords:

Do you reckon that's Ray Manzarek on keyboards?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I would sincerely hope it wasn't. lol!
  2:18pm Listener Robert:

That's why warmup performers are used for the live audience before a TV show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I LOVE THIS RECORD!!!! :-)
I remember when you played the French version before!!! It's fantastic. :-)
Avatar 2:20pm worldsworstrecords:

Jodie Foster sings (ish!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm Otis Fodder:

Used to DJ out with the 7" years and years ago. Always a hit.
Avatar 2:20pm Mr Fab:

A pedos delight!
Avatar 2:20pm worldsworstrecords:

Must have been someone else GG, I only recently came across this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm Otis Fodder:

I played it before, maybe twice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Wait ... was it you or Otis? Maybe Otis. I'm getting Waylon + Jodie memories.
Avatar 2:21pm worldsworstrecords:

Paedo in a Speedo... sung to the tune of Girlfriend in a Coma
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Yep, it was Otis - Friday Persuasions era :-)
Avatar 2:21pm worldsworstrecords:

I've played Waylon a couple of times, both sides
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm Otis Fodder:

Arcesia has a really nice reissue on Subliminal Sounds from a couple of years ago on vinyl... for anyone interested. Worth picking up for the liner notes and the pressing is solid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm Rich in Washington:

Maybe this is what drove John Hinckley Jr. over the edge.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm Otis Fodder:

Excellent, Kenneth Higney!
Avatar 2:23pm Mr Fab:

ha, Higney was supposedly inspired by seeing Johnny thunders live, and wrote this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm Otis Fodder:

Oops, my mistake, Guerssen released Arcesia in 2014 - www.discogs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm Otis Fodder:

Kenneth sent me his CDs after I played him on my show last year. Really nice guy! He listens to WFMU.
Avatar 2:24pm worldsworstrecords:

I love this album
Avatar 2:24pm worldsworstrecords:

that was kind of him
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm Rich in Washington:

This is actually quite catchy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm Otis Fodder:

The b-side of this song (originally released as a 7") but on the CD reissue... was FUNKY KINKY... a fav.
Avatar 2:25pm Mr Fab:

"I don't like the sissy music of John Den-var." hey, he made it rhyme.
Avatar 2:25pm worldsworstrecords:

I love that line
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Ah. 70s school choir time. This and Michael Row the Bloody Boat. And Everything is Beautiful. I can smell the desks :-)
  2:27pm Listener Robert:

I'm pretty sure I remember this "...World...Hands" getting extensive airplay, unironically, when it was new.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

And Kumbai-bloody-ya. Kids today don't have a clue ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm Otis Fodder:

And I'd like to buy the world a coke.
  2:29pm Listener Robert:

A good way to transmit diseases, when you think about it, Otis.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

And the nun record ... not Dominique .. the other one. the 70s one. Ohhhh what was it called??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm Otis Fodder:

The one where the nun whistles the sound of music?
Avatar 2:30pm worldsworstrecords:

I've no idea, GG
Avatar 2:30pm Mr Fab:

@Listener Robert: ha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm Rich in Washington:

Oh, Micronauts!
Avatar 2:30pm worldsworstrecords:

Hey Robert!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Sister Janet Mead!!!! The Lord's Prayer!!! Phew. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

She was Australian I believe
Avatar 2:31pm worldsworstrecords:

Oh God... of course!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm Otis Fodder:

I had mironauts at around age 8. Almost as good as Star Wars toys, maybe better.
Avatar 2:31pm worldsworstrecords:

I have a 7" of that somewhere
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Whew. I pulled that one out of the very back of my brain :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm Rich in Washington:

BETTER! So much better! And cheaper.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm Otis Fodder:

Oh, that's horrible. Janet is not allowed in my home.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

We had to sing that at school.
Avatar 2:32pm Mr Fab:

Just say no, kids.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm Otis Fodder:

RE/SEARCH opened my mind to the cosmic telephony of Kali many planets ago.

I wish we had to sing Kali Bahlu in school!
Avatar 2:33pm worldsworstrecords:

Did the Buddha drink coffee?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm Rich in Washington:

For a while, people would give me that Sister Dominique record when they learned that I collected questionable records. I still think about that when I run into one, which is almost every time I go digging.
Avatar 2:34pm worldsworstrecords:

I LOVE Dominique!
Avatar 2:34pm worldsworstrecords:

Dominique, nique, nique...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

My daughter's just reading about the whole "Dominique" tragedy. Really sad story, poor thing :-(
Avatar 2:35pm worldsworstrecords:

the Singing Nun story is so sad... poor woman was totally ripped off by her convent
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm Otis Fodder:

The Links do a version of Dominique... but it's still not bad enough to like.
Avatar 2:35pm worldsworstrecords:

I love the backing vox on this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm Otis Fodder:

Wow, Angus is Gold. Solid!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm Otis Fodder:

Actually, there is one version of Dominique that is amazing. By Sam Chalpin on this LP, www.discogs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm Otis Fodder:

Here it is on YouTube. Ha! www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm Rich in Washington:

And it's in Dobly!
Avatar 2:38pm worldsworstrecords:

DOBLY!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm Otis Fodder:

Angus needs a reissue on vinyl.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm Otis Fodder:

Ah, there she is. Her 3rd and most underrated piece of work imho.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm Jan Turkenburg:

I agree Otis!
Avatar 2:41pm worldsworstrecords:

Still trying to find a copy of her first Mrs Miller Records 45
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm Otis Fodder:

I'd love that too. I did a transfer of it years ago, Dana Countryman has a complete collection.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm Rich in Washington:

Marcy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm Jan Turkenburg:

With Les Paul?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm Otis Fodder:

I feel like a swarm of Clowns for Jesus are going to knock on my door at any moment.
Avatar 2:45pm worldsworstrecords:

It does sound a bit like Les Paul, doesn't it Jan?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm Jan Turkenburg:

Do you have a minute to talk about Cheeses?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm Jan Turkenburg:

It does, Darryl
Avatar 2:46pm Mr Fab:

a swarm of Clowns for Jesus - LOL!
Avatar 2:47pm worldsworstrecords:

DENTIST!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm Rich in Washington:

Yeah, that guitar was quite swingin' for a Marcy record. Would be interesting to know more about the production of some of her records. She was on quite a few labels. I sometimes think that the albums I run into most frequently around here are just the ones which were local-to-me labels, as that one you (Otis) inquired about last week was entirely unknown to me.
Avatar 2:48pm worldsworstrecords:

There's a lot of crossover between Marcy and Mrs Miller
Avatar 2:49pm worldsworstrecords:

didn't Lex de Acevedo produce both of them?
  2:49pm Listener Robert:

The movie out 2 years ago, "The Death of Stalin", was a great dark comedy.
Avatar 2:50pm worldsworstrecords:

And wasn't her manager Fred Bock involved with Marcy too?
  2:50pm Listener Robert:

I wonder if the word "docucomedy" has been coined already.
Avatar 2:50pm worldsworstrecords:

Mockumentary?
2:51pm Dave In St Albans UK:

@Listener Robert Agreed. Underrated film.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm Otis Fodder:

She was on Word and Singcord... and listening to other albums on those labels at the time, there was a lot of pro studio cats playing you can tell.
Avatar 2:52pm worldsworstrecords:

Nice tune this, and some decent playing, but very dull lyrics
  2:53pm Listener Robert:

That one I know, WWR, but it's more applicable to comedies done IN THE STYLE OF documentaries, like "Arrested Development". I'm thinking of something more in the vein of history-based comedy--comedy purporting to be based on well-known actual events.
Avatar 2:53pm worldsworstrecords:

I see what you mean, Robert
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Listener Robert - like the series that Fred Armisen and Bill Hader did?
Avatar 2:54pm worldsworstrecords:

This is a very disturbing record
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm Rich in Washington:

WOW!
Avatar 2:55pm worldsworstrecords:

Just one song left after this, then it's all over to Georgy's place
Avatar 2:55pm Mr Fab:

There was something wonderful about that sweet, clumsy Beulah record.
Avatar 2:55pm worldsworstrecords:

www.wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm Rich in Washington:

This makes me think of Peter Jackson's Meet The Feebles for some reason.
Avatar 2:56pm worldsworstrecords:

I love Beulah, but her records are rocking-horse shit rare
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Great show, Darryl! Thank you :-)
I'm off to set out the porn studio - see you all in a minute!
Avatar 2:56pm worldsworstrecords:

Cheers GG, see you in a few minutes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm Otis Fodder:

Puppet Love. Is this safe for work?
Avatar 2:57pm worldsworstrecords:

definitely NSFW, Otis
Avatar 2:58pm worldsworstrecords:

That's you lot kids, thanks again for looking after me for the last hour
2:59pm Dave In St Albans UK:

Thanks Darryl. Fun hour.
Avatar 2:59pm worldsworstrecords:

Cheers dave!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm Rich in Washington:
