My poor sweetie is so used to me listening to 'bad' music that the only time she's ever expressed confusion was when I listen to Micah's Music of Mind Control and asked why I was listening to such boring, bland music.

I like it, I do! Totally, WWR is always subjective. But here, this is some gooooood stuff big D. Just don't play American Pie (unless it's The Brady Bunch version) like Greg played on Monday. Ha!

@Otis - your American Pie is my Popcorn ;-)

We are all travelling in a musical elevator and the direction is permanently set to go down. Thank you Darryl.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Darryl! Hello! :-) lol
  2:13pm
Martinibomb:

I agree that WWR is a subjective show and the context of what he plays next to other songs is important. This is why I would make the argument that he'd never run out of material.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm
Rich in Washington:

I remember a time when Lee and Nancy were considered 'bad', kitschy, etc. It's all so subjective.
Avatar 2:13pm
Otis Fodder:

Shall we link to the 72 or 720 versions of Popcorn on the WFMU blog again? Ha!

"The Percolator" is Popcorn's grandpappy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

To be fair, I *adore* Golden Earring so all very, very subjective :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm

72 versions of Popcorn??? Are you trying to kill me? LOL!
Avatar 2:15pm

Yep, I never stopped loving Xanadu, and shouted my love growing up in school..l today's it's cool, but back then, I don't know how I escaped getting beat up.

I like the music but damn Otis.. Xanadu the movie SUCKS! I dunno what to say Lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm

Same with Abba - you couldn't admit that you loved Abba or ELO at my school in the 70s. Even tho I loved them both. Instant kicking.

  2:16pm
Martinibomb:

Anyone watch that Densha Otoko series I posted? It relies heavily on ELO
Avatar 2:17pm
worldsworstrecords:

that's a good point Rich... but i could end up just playing bad house, rap, grime and garage
Avatar 2:17pm
Otis Fodder:

Yep, long time ABBA lover. Even Erasure covering ABBA!
  2:17pm
Listener Robert:

A lot of it is setting and expectations. Years ago I sat in the car in the driveway of my friends' new home, and asked their son Drew, 8 years old or so, if he wanted to lower his musical taste, which he very much did, so we listened to Irwin's Incorrect Music segment (successor to his old Atrocious Music segment), which came in his last hour. That led into Bob Brainen's opening, and Drew laughed at the xylophones in his opening theme, "Image". I had to explain to him that the funny program was over.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

79 versions of Popcorn is my idea of Hell. Actually, my idea of Hell is being locked, alone, in a pitch black cinema being forced to watch the Breakfast Club on a loop and having only grilled tomatoes and liquorice to eat and blackcurrant juice to drink.
  2:18pm
Martinibomb:

Densha Otoko also uses a Popcorn-esque track extensively
Avatar 2:18pm
worldsworstrecords:

Do you reckon that's Ray Manzarek on keyboards?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I would sincerely hope it wasn't. lol!

That's why warmup performers are used for the live audience before a TV show.

Yeah, that guitar was quite swingin' for a Marcy record. Would be interesting to know more about the production of some of her records. She was on quite a few labels. I sometimes think that the albums I run into most frequently around here are just the ones which were local-to-me labels, as that one you (Otis) inquired about last week was entirely unknown to me.

Avatar 2:52pm

Nice tune this, and some decent playing, but very dull lyrics
  2:53pm
Listener Robert:

That one I know, WWR, but it's more applicable to comedies done IN THE STYLE OF documentaries, like "Arrested Development". I'm thinking of something more in the vein of history-based comedy--comedy purporting to be based on well-known actual events.
