I remember when we first got our huge honking satellite TV setup in the early 80s, there was some porno channel which would frequently 'unscramble' itself every couple of weeks or so, supposedly to drum up business. But it was on one particular satellite with almost nothing else on it, and in such a position that it was sort of conspicuous if my dad saw it. It was pretty funny. We'd hear him coming downstairs and then have to slowly and awkwardly traverse the dish over to the part of the sky with most of the movie channels, superstations on it. Fun times.

I remember reading somewhere that the death of grindhouse and other low rent movie theaters in big cities like New York sort of dried up the independent film market, coupled with the rise of the porn industry, so you had all these aspiring filmmakers, or out of work directors, people like Radley Metzger, etc. They sort of sought the greener pastures of making porn. I dunno. I could be remembering it wrong.
