Avatar 3:09pm Hoboken Jack:

SHIVAS give me shivers
  3:09pm William Main:

Be sure to ask Robbie Robertson about his fine performance in the very underrated film Carny (1980) with Jodie Foster and Gary Busey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm Craig in MoTown:

Got my tix for The Shivas, gonna be fun!
Avatar 3:10pm Hoboken Jack:

Yes Pumpy but we're estranged. Damn autocorrect, we're strange.
  3:11pm medson:

Hey TOPT and everyone. No work today and you’re turned up load. Strappin in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm Handy Haversack:

Your brother sure can get crabby, @Hoboken Jack.
  3:12pm captain mike:

Got your Stones tickets yet Mr.Todd?
Avatar 3:13pm MFlynn:

Yeah,Message board works with kindle. How about that?
Avatar 3:14pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@captain mike: it's tempting despite the $$$ but the show this past summer was so incredible I might want to leave it at that. Nowhere to go but down from that one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm Mr. Pumpy:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm Mr. Pumpy:

@Handy...good one! He's the crab to his yuppy...
  3:15pm captain mike:

I saw them last year too Phenomenal stage design Isn’t Ronnie Wood at the top his game these days?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm Mr. Pumpy:

Wait, are yuppies a thing still? I'm dating myself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm Handy Haversack:

Try the veal! (Really, don't.)

I mutter "yuppie baby mfer" under my breath a lot when the wealthy kids flooding the neighborhood get in my way ... or open a new CBD boutique ... so ... maybe?

Faz Waltz was bringing it! World premiere!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm mb:

Ohhh. Ty Segal does a mint cover of this. Great selection, selector!
Avatar 3:19pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@captain mike: Agreed on Woody, but I think you can say that about the whole band.
  3:19pm Joey D:

Never knew this until Ty Segall covered it which kicks ass but this original is also great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm Mr. Pumpy:

Well..then there are yuppies, I've been validated! Funny story, I teach high school and I used the phrase, "I'm dating myself." once. A student of mine said, "Mr., that's so sad! You are dating yourself?!" Talk about solitude...that would be taking it to a new level, dating myself!
  3:23pm egould310:

@Mr. Pumpy

Maybe you don’t see yuppies anymore because... you’ve become one yourself?!?!
  3:23pm ChasG:

Have the recent Elevator Operators EP? Love to hear a track. Everything you’re playing is killing it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Handy Haversack:

Mr. P -- I was gonna say there's nothing wrong with dating yourself! You never argue about where to eat!
  3:24pm captain mike:

Really enjoyed Mr Wood’s Chuck Berry Tribute lp recently as well Cheers Todd!

This is such a badass recording.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm Handy Haversack:

  3:49pm ChasG:

  3:52pm ChasG:

Evidently the comments don’t take hand clapping emojis.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Mr. Pumpy:

@Handy...I'm coming. We'll look out for each other on the old farm!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm Handy Haversack:

Mr. P -- coming to which? Maggie's farm? Did you not hear Bob?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm Mr. Pumpy:

Yes...Maggie's Farm!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Handy Haversack:

We was warned!
  3:59pm ?:

None of The Hawks including Robbie appear on the version of “Maggie’s Farm” you played. That is Mike Bloomfield on guitar with Harvey Brooks, Al Kooper and Sam Lay backing him at Newport ‘65.
Avatar 4:03pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

Can't win them all. A great track nonetheless!
Avatar 4:05pm JayPHunt:

I loved Ronnie Hawkins & The Hawks growing up in London Ontario and later The Band. I can't wait to see Before Were Brothers. Thanks for bringing this great interview with Robbie.
  4:07pm John from Florham park:

Hello fellow TOPT listeners
  4:09pm ChasG:

Cool info from Robbie re: banjo string for high E, then move others down to create a “light gauge” set for heavy bending on a Telecaster.
Avatar 4:11pm Woo:

The guitar talk is great and I don't usually like guitar talk.
  4:12pm John from Florham park:

@Woo todd and the rest of the DJs on this station are a cut above the rest
Avatar 4:15pm Woo:

That they are. I need WFMU.
  4:17pm John from Florham park:

@Woo WFMU keeps me sane in a insane world
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm mb:

Great show thanks.
Avatar 4:23pm Fredericks:

I just hawked up a loogie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm Handy Haversack:

Was that last question about the "persona" in reference to Dylan? I missed a second.

That organ.
Avatar 4:24pm Fredericks:

My favorite Band song: Chest Fever.
Avatar 4:25pm Woo:

Great interview Todd
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Handy Haversack:

Not sure math was their strong suit.
Avatar 4:32pm Fredericks:

Woo: Technically, I probably knew the Three Dog version first.
Avatar 4:33pm Woo:

Fredericks, me too. It was the flip of one of their hits. A worthy flip.
  4:35pm John from Florham park:

@Gandy digging this interview too I see
  4:35pm MFlynn:

Thanks Todd. Really enjoying the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Band were putting out material that sounded like it had always existed as soon as it was released.
They weren't the only ones - but they characterize it for a particular era in a particular way...
  4:36pm John from Florham park:

I mean handy sorry
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm listener 126464:

Hi Todd! Knocked loose a memory of seeing The Last Waltz at Zeigfeld.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Handy Haversack:

@John, definitely. Enjoying the whole show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...course - the Culture & the Times were moving o fast & far out - Back to Earth was the furthest thing out there could be...Everyone felt that influence - & the Dead, Beatles, Stones, Elevators & Credence are among those who joined the ride to one extent or other...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Mike Sin:

Loving the interview! Robertson has always been very articulate and his clarity really gets his perspective across.
  4:40pm John from Florham park:

Has anyone here ever watched the last waltz? Great documentary
Avatar 4:41pm JayPHunt:

I wonder if we will ever see the long promised box set "From Bacon Fat To Judgement Day" It was to include all unreleased tracks from Levon and The Hawks between leaving Ronnie Hawkins and joining Bob Dylan. Garth Hudson has been the driving force behind it for 15 years, but it seems to be being held up by Robbie Robertson. Maybe when "Once Were Brothers" is released he will let it go ahead.
  4:43pm Jimmy:

crappy hippie music by the band
Avatar 4:44pm Fredericks:

Actually, my very favorite Band song is Stage Fright.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Today they'd just call it Americana I think !
  4:47pm John from Florham park:

This is not hippie music just damn good music
Avatar 4:48pm Woo:

I won Rock of Ages on the radio a long time ago. I loved when radio stations would give records away on the air.
  4:49pm John from Florham park:

This has to be from the last waltz
  4:50pm Jimmy:

for hippies. this aint rock & roll
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm patrick321:

Damn, Todd, what a monster set.
  4:51pm Jimmy:

stupidest cocaine movie
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...was just thinking today how @ one time drums were not allowed in the Grand Ole Opry
...there's always been this other culture or movement that refused to let Corporate forces dictate how owns the U.S. American legacy...
LBJ signing the Civil Rights Bill in 1964 of course lost the South to Conservatives - & I think the divide continues today in the Musics... Dylan w/ the Band were so defiant of audience expectation : that's so very Punk - altho' Dylan often been regarded as the beginning of taking Rawk 'seriously' - the opposite of 'Punk' or Roots Rawk. In fact - he wanted to be Little Richard before he wanted to be Woody Guthrie... & then The Band formed in Isolation...
  4:51pm SeanG:

then go elsewhere Jimmy ya dunce
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm Handy Haversack:

@Woo, the rock station where I grew up had a Perfect Album Side contest. You send in a themed set of songs to win a $50 gift coin to Turtles. You were not allowed to send it in on auto parts. They had learned their lesson.
  4:51pm John from Florham park:

@Fredricks mine is the night they drive old Dixie down
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Doobois:

Gawd damn, this segment kicked ass! Thanks, TOPT. You rock!
  4:54pm huudy:

I watch the Last Waltz at least once a year.
That Neil Diamond track alone will bring you to your knees.
Great movie!!
  4:54pm CC:

Great stuff, Todd!!!...
Avatar 4:55pm Woo:

At times they would give away 6-packs of 45s. Basically they were unloading their promos. I have some pretty obscure 45s from being the third caller.
  4:55pm John from Florham park:

@huudy I agree
Avatar 4:56pm Fredericks:

Think that song was my first introduction to the Band, JfFP.
Avatar 4:57pm Fredericks:

Handy, Todd's last set would have won the $50, no?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

'Last Waltz' directed by Martin Scorsese of course.
  4:57pm John from Florham park:

@fredricjs what a great intro into the band
  4:58pm huudy:

Garth's story bout being the band's paid music teacher so he could tell his parents he was making money with all that band stuff lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm Handy Haversack:

@Fredericks, I'd vote for it! I won once my writing the songs in the study guide for getting your driver license from the DMV.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm Frank In Queens:

Uh-oh! You hear that Jimmy? The Grateful Dead!
  5:07pm George in WO:

I was at the Watkins Glen shows. Band, Dead, Allmans.
  5:07pm Jimmy:

what happened to this radio program?
  5:07pm CC:

They didn't boo you guys too long back when you started backing Dylan..!?!...
  5:09pm Frank Zaatar:

I was there too! The Band''s set sounded the best at that show. Band + Owsley's Wall of Sound = sonic gold.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Being very generous w/ his time !
  5:12pm SeanG:

i really dig that first robbie solo album

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm Handy Haversack:

I think that was the joke? He was so far gone ...
  5:39pm Marc from Fort lee:

Excellent music Todd. Regarding the interview with Robbie Robertson, if Richard, Levon and Rick were still alive I'd bet they would have a different spin on the breakup of the Band. Although he is one of the greatest guitarists of all time, Robbie got to full of himself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm Spinning Giant:

Thanks & Cheers - me and my 2 super awesome kiddos are listening up in rural Ontario, Canada
