Hey, David and travellers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm redkayak:

That water in the picture today looks very kayak-able :)
Avatar 3:02pm David Dichelle:

Greetings ßrian, Monkeyz, Phillippe, Redkayak, Sem, Yvang!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm Mark Hurst:

Hi David!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm Carmichael:

Where I come from, that water is called a "creek". Heya David and aquarians.
Avatar 3:04pm βrian:

But does it rhyme with with "rick" or with "reek?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm redkayak:

@David - Ahoy captain!
Avatar 3:05pm David Dichelle:

Hey Mark and Carmichael - it's too tame and managed to be a creek, I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm Carmichael:

I'm a (sub)urban hipster, so it's "reek".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm redkayak:

Looks like a canal?
Avatar 3:05pm David Dichelle:

Ahoy, Redkayak - yes, lots of kayaking happens right there, including kayak polo or whatever it's called.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm chris:

hi, David and waterway aficionados.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm redkayak:

Awesome. I'm waiting for spring!
Avatar 3:06pm βrian:

A drainage canal, yep.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Webhamster Henry:

I guess that Russian train was going to Novy Sad.

Hey Chris and DrJ!
Avatar 3:07pm David Dichelle:

And Henry!
Avatar 3:09pm David Dichelle:

Yes, Henry, it might be the Baltic-Balkan Express.

Oh sorry, Melinda, wish there were a way to post it to the app as well.

That’s ok
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm redkayak:

I need a Medici-type patron to underwrite a worldwide kayaking year, lol....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm redkayak:

Any takers?
Avatar 3:20pm David Dichelle:

How much would you need for that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm redkayak:

.....although my wife may not appreciate my idea to be a kayak-bum!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm redkayak:

@David - I'll get my accounting team on it ;)
Avatar 3:24pm βrian:

@redkayak: Resist the urge to plate your hull with gold ...
Avatar 3:24pm David Dichelle:

Are you familiar with kayak polo (if that is the name)?
  3:24pm melinda:

It would be cool to live in a place with canals, there don’t seem to be a lot of them in the US. Princeton NJ has one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm chresti:

Hi David and subway riders! Home from work..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm redkayak:

@Brian - hahaha....will do. Fortunately, I was born with a plastic spoon in my mouth....
Avatar 3:25pm David Dichelle:

Hey Chresti!
Avatar 3:25pm βrian:

Well, there's Brooklyn's claim to fame, the Gowanus Canal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm redkayak:

@David - No, I'm not. Sounds interesting!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm redkayak:

I have plied the waters of the mighty I&M Canal.....
Pretty cool old defunct waterway....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm chris:

i would write this bands name in english as Auction. loved that first set!
  3:27pm melinda:

@Brian how could I forget. Such a great name, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Stanley:

Good evening all.
Melinda - Syracuse has the Erie Canal. (I know someone from there.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm chris:

Аукцыон could even maybe be closer to 'Action'.. dunno...
Avatar 3:30pm Sem:

Hello, Stanley, good evening.
  3:30pm melinda:

I guess I just live in the wrong place for canals.
Avatar 3:32pm Sem:

Venice is sinking, meaning much more canalage to kayak, I guess, melinda should you choose to up-sticks and move there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Mark Hurst:

This isn't bed music, this is flutbettmusik
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm redkayak:

@Sem - Gotta think the food would be vastly better than Chicago's too...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm fred:

Good evening David and all on the train
Avatar 3:36pm David Dichelle:

Good evening to you, Fred!
Avatar 3:36pm βrian:

I was just having a look at the Gowanus canal on Google Earth. I don't think it'd be my first choice for kayaking.
Avatar 3:36pm Sem:

@redkayak: I thought Chicago was a gourmands' heaven, or maybe I am thinking of Cleveland.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Phillippe Bastille:

Naming for bodies of flowing water is kinda weird in some ways, makes perfect sense in others. Here's how it was explained to me: streams flow into creeks, creeks flow into rivers, rivers flow into bays, bays flow into oceans. My cousin and I both have shacks on the water; his is on a creek that is a larger body of water than the river ours is on. Our river empties into the bay no more than a quarter mile from where the river my cousin's creek feeds into enters the bay. If our river emptied out a quarter mile north of where it does, it would be a creek, not a river. Fishing would be great in either one.
Avatar 3:38pm Sem:

Oh, boy, ancient Canadian Content. Thank you, DD.
Avatar 3:38pm David Dichelle:

Mark: Eine kleine Flutbettmusik is a little-known old favorite.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm redkayak:

@Sem - Actually, I think there are some good places to eat around here... Which brings me back to needing a Medici-type patron to underwrite my dining budget ;)
Avatar 3:39pm David Dichelle:

My pleasure, Sem, a double pleasure in fact as you will hear...
Avatar 3:40pm Sem:

hahaha, probably do-able, if the treacherous deed isn't too onerous, @redkayak.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Mark Hurst:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm dutchtheo:

Howdy David and all on the shady lane, where is the courtship going?
Avatar 3:43pm Sem:

The interrogation process is lengthy and obscure....
Avatar 3:44pm David Dichelle:

Hey Dutchtheo, an apparently happy marriage in this one, for a change.
Avatar 3:45pm David Dichelle:

Hello Stanley - just saw you up there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm fred:

I guess many of the Roud songs don't end well
Avatar 4:01pm Sem:

Karen James was unknown to me, but looking at the Folkways .pdf of this album, I see she sings songs collected by Dr. Helen Creighton, who is justly revered in Canadian folk music circles for going out and collecting and recording songs from Nova Scotia's tiniest villages, mostly along the Atlantic shore. This would be the 20s,30s,40s and later.
Thanks for this particular rabbithole, David.
Avatar 4:04pm David Dichelle:

Fred: A good number, I suppose it would be interesting to do a count.
Avatar 4:05pm David Dichelle:

Sem: Thanks, I only went halfway down that particular one myself.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Michael 98145:

now this is something you don't hear every day
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Webhamster Henry:

Oh ok it's a santur and setar run through an octavizer I guess.
Avatar 4:19pm David Dichelle:

WH, You are right about the instruments, not sure about the process on the setar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Webhamster Henry:

The liner notes say spectral processing - I don't think a setar can play that low!
Avatar 4:24pm David Dichelle:

I see electro-acoustical augmentation, probably the same thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm doctorjazz:

Reggae Klezmer, cool!

Shades of Souad Massi with that last one.
  4:51pm ?:

Hey David, Listening with brother Regan out on Long Island, any covers of Billy Joel? Haha.
Avatar 4:51pm David Dichelle:

Stanley, true, and high praise at that, I would say.
Avatar 4:52pm David Dichelle:

Hey Brad and Regan! Not today, I'm afraid.
Avatar 4:52pm David Dichelle:

How are things on the Island?
Avatar 5:00pm Brian in UK:

Hello David and fellow travellers.
Sad that Souad Massi cannot live in her homeland.
5:01pm Dave In St Albans UK:

Hi David. Enjoying the Subway journey.
Avatar 5:02pm Brian in UK:

@Dave have you sorted out your loft after the storm?
Avatar 5:04pm David Dichelle:

Good evening Brian and Dave!
5:06pm Dave In St Albans UK:

Yes I have sorted out that damn leaky roof! Glad I checked things. Thanks Brian! Happy householder now and able to relax with some Subway musical last.
Avatar 5:07pm David Dichelle:

Oh, did you have damage from this week's storm?
  5:10pm Filip Pagowski:

Greetings David... listening intently from the French Alps, 10 km outside of Chamonix. Getting some snow, I guess leftovers of the big Ciara storm making it's way into the western Alps...
Avatar 5:10pm Brian in UK:

The weather is changing so quickly over here. Snow/sleet then barely half an hour later blue skies and snow on the hills.
5:11pm Dave In St Albans UK:

Yes. Ripped up a corner of the roof. All done. Weather calmer and now I can relax and enjoy tonight's show without "the problem" at the back of my mind! Thanks David for your excellent show as always.
Avatar 5:12pm David Dichelle:

Thanks Dave, sorry to hear about that, but glad you got it back into shape.
5:12pm Dave In St Albans UK:

@Brian. How bad was it where you are?
Avatar 5:13pm David Dichelle:

Hello Filip, that is a lovely part of the world, and with actual snow! We've had no lasting snow this winter at all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm Stanley:

Great to hear a song dedicated to a tea urn
Avatar 5:14pm David Dichelle:

Nothing like a good old samovar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm doctorjazz:

Bogdanov is GREAT! Dancing in the office!
Avatar 5:15pm Brian in UK:

Dave, a few trees down on the railway lines, nothing major but boy did it blow. Just put a new tarp on the shed roof and it stayed there, was well pleased with that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm Stanley:

... and how fared the chickens, Brian?
5:19pm Dave In St Albans UK:

@Brian in UK Glad to hear that! I had to pin down the trampoline as it looked suspiciously airborne once or twice (or maybe I was imagining it).
Avatar 5:19pm Brian in UK:

Stanley, well they did not like the wind but survived it. Due to the short days they usually go offlay for a while. We are still getting 2/3 eggs a days still.
Avatar 5:20pm Brian in UK:

Dave, apparently trampolines are the biggest trouble on railway lines after trees falling.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Stanley:

Good to hear they're okay
  5:21pm Brad:

Half joking. Great selection as always!
Avatar 5:22pm Sem:

Doctor, my uncle thinks he's a chicken.

I think I can help him.

Just as long as he keeps laying eggs, OK?
Avatar 5:24pm Brian in UK:

Stanley, are you all set for your excursion across the water?
Avatar 5:24pm Brian in UK:

Ah Sem the old ones are the best.
Avatar 5:25pm Sem:

Just so, BiUK, just so.
Avatar 5:25pm David Dichelle:

Thanks, Brad - hope all is well over there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm Stanley:

Avatar 5:29pm David Dichelle:

That's great, Stanley! Sorry I won't be over there this year to meet you.
Avatar 5:29pm David Dichelle:

Carmichael, nice simulpost!
Avatar 5:29pm Brian in UK:

Carmichael, how are you doing this last few weeks?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Stanley:

Shame, David.
Avatar 5:30pm Sem:

Brian: found a little bolthole in Jersey City, flying into Newark for the last few days of the Marathon. Kilt and tam o' shanter, and good sunglasses.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Phillippe Bastille:

No snow here either. We pay our neighbor in brownies to clear our driveway (small driveway, big snowblower) and my sons used the last package of brownie mix last night, so it better not snow now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Stanley:

Darn it, Sem. I'm gonna have to rethink my outfit!
Avatar 5:33pm Brian in UK:

Another old one.
'Is anything worn under the kilt?'
'No, it's all in perfect working order'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm Carmichael:

Doing OK Brian, thanks for asking.
Avatar 5:34pm David Dichelle:

Sem, enjoy it as well - it is a lot of fun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Carmichael:

One of these days I'll get to the marathon. Didn't know there was a dress code ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm doctorjazz:
