There are a lot of words Dutch and Norwegian have in common i hear :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am Otis Fodder:

Oh god yes, Dynamite! Loved that mag!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

I think what i like is Sunshine Pop.
  11:52am melinda:

@Granny I definitely like sunshine pop, but I’m not crazy about the term
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Now i realize that why i always like The Electric Banana is because they're to The Pretty Things what The Dukes of Stratospheare were to XTC
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

melinda: this is why it's important to keep mutating the language! ;)
Avatar 11:57am Martinibomb:

dukes of the stratosphere are total faves! haven't heard them in awhile @granny

Yes, Malvina Reynolds wrote Little Boxes.

Yo ho Otis! And fellow friends of Friendly-ness. i actually have that "Holiday In New York" album but haven't gotten around to listening to it yet. (As with so many other records) Should I?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Rich in Washington:

I also have the Holiday in New York. It's kind of peculiar. Its cover has glitter set in the artwork.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Rich in Washington:

Hi Otis!
Hi everybody!
  12:24pm melinda:

The Bluetooth speaker here in the store where I work has crappy volume adjustments and I always worry about playing music too loud for customers, but when someone wanders in having a phone conversation I’m happy to blast the tunes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Otis Fodder:

That's great. I will be playing some Blowfly soon... but will preface it with MELINDA turn down the volume. Haaaa.
  12:27pm melinda:

Haha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Rich in Washington:

I think Dennis Dragon was the Surf Punks one, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Otis Fodder:

That's right Rich, I heard that too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Rich in Washington:

oh yeah!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Rich in Washington:

That debut Negativland LP is something else.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Rich in Washington:

I remember hearing snippets from it on late night Portland radio during the 80s and having no idea what it was for many years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Rich in Washington:

He's pretty emphatic with that 'SAY IT!'. Don't we get a choice?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Otis Fodder:

So good. Breaking out stuff out of the old 'Ovenguard' music stash now. Just added this Wobbly to Discogs.
Avatar 12:48pm Martinibomb:

goood stuff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Rich in Washington:

Fascinating. I was not really aware of Wobbly's stuff until he sort of gravitated towards People Like Us and Negativland.
Avatar 1:02pm Mr Fab:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Otis Fodder:

I was blown away when first hearing this Koala tape in the late 1990s... outside of Tipsy, this one made a huge mental mark, still engraved.
Avatar 1:03pm Martinibomb:

^same here
Avatar 1:09pm Martinibomb:

I almost did a music video for Kid Koala back in the day.. met him a few times. It just never worked out for some reason
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm Otis Fodder:

That would have been cool!
Avatar 1:14pm Martinibomb:

The cool thing about having a longer show as you and I know.. is that you can play long-form sutff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Otis Fodder:

Totally, I have a 16-min cut I want to play soon. Like the stretch-out.
1:26pm Kat in Chicago in the app:

Hmm, might be a good time to go grab lunch...
Avatar 1:27pm Sonderangebot:

Perfect for my porno job!
Avatar 1:30pm Mr Fab:

Chancing upon this album at a record store parking-lot blowout sale was my introduction to the weird world of Blowfly. Not long after, i saw him live and it was literally the most star-studded show i'd even been to. had no idea what a rep the guy had.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Otis Fodder:

This was your first, ha! Wow, what an intro. My intro was Zodiac Blowfly which became one of the 'what is your sign' funny bits at house parties.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm Otis Fodder:

@Sonderangebot - Ran across a stack of porno flexis a few years back... planning a 'blue' show one week this year where it's all NSFW and headphones only. Some of it is SO bad, like just bad and funny.
Avatar 1:35pm Martinibomb:

omfg a Bossa-nanny LOL
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm Rich in Washington:

Oh wow, Otis! Do you suppose they came with a magazine (no pun intended!)?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm Rich in Washington:

The juxtaposition of THIS after that Blowfly has my head spinning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm Otis Fodder:

Ha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Rich in Washington:

this makes me want to join Students for Nixon.

Falling asleep with ribbons here.
Avatar 1:45pm Sonderangebot:

@Otis Wow I can't wait! Please do it! In any case the music you play is a perfect companion to the "sexy" images I have to work on here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm Otis Fodder:

The juxtaposition of Ford playing must be wonderful! Yea!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Rich in Washington:

I dig this rock and roll music. It is both rock AND roll.
Avatar 1:49pm Mr Fab:

Did they really just sing: "Herbie Alpert, how did you manage/You were Jewish, but now you're Spanish"?!
Avatar 1:52pm Mr Fab:

We just had Li'l Fab's birthday party at a restaurant where you can play classic video games for free. Mrs Fab made Pac Man cookies!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Otis Fodder:

Yes, they did Fab at the end of TJ Taxi! That's an awesome party, RAD!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm Rich in Washington:

Happy Be Day, Li'l Fab!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Rich in Washington:

This record is so mind pummelingly dull without music. It's sort of amazing that they didn't at least put some kind of stock music under it. Such a great artifact of its time, though.
Avatar 1:59pm Mr Fab:

I hadn't played Frogger in, like, DECADES.

The phrase 'Conquer The Video Craze' makes no sense. Good thing about it not having background music - sampling! Something I've been meaning to do with this album, drops bits from it into the Sheean stream.
Avatar 1:59pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Anyone notice any playlist issues today (besides "no comments in Safari")? Otis's playlist has been a beta test today. Comment here or email me at kenzo at wfmu.org.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Otis Fodder:

It is huh! Conquer the boredom craze.
Avatar 2:00pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

P.S. Long fan of Wobbly, probably introduced at an Ovenguard show while I was in San Francisco.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm Otis Fodder:

None at all Kenzo. Not one blip. Thanks as always!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm Rich in Washington:

Wobbly's coming to my town next month, as part of Negativland.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm Otis Fodder:

Kenzo, did you go to the Ovenguard show in 1998 in Oakland, I played with Big City Orchestra's dAS and Phiineas Narco (we put contact mics on a popcorn popper and served up snacks).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm Otis Fodder:

I wish they were coming to Montreal. Last show I saw was at Great American Music Hall in SF in 2005 - All in your Head or something or other, lots of fun!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm Rich in Washington:

They're doing a planned series of little dinky tours. They'll likely get up your way, but it may take a while. Hopefully US and Canada borders will still be relatively open by then and free travel will be possible throughout states/provinces.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Rich in Washington:

working on arranging a live radio simulcast of their Portland show as I write this. Hopefully can pull it off.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Otis Fodder:

Same old issue with border and acts, never know and crossing fingers. Total crapshoot it seems. Was sad when Messer Chups had a show planned a couple years back and yep, no go at border.
Avatar 2:11pm Mr Fab:

Bummer, Otis! Spacebrother Greg & I saw Messer Chups a few years ago. Guess we got lucky.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm Otis Fodder:

One day hope to see them play live. On my bucket list of shows to see.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm Rich in Washington:

Fingers crossed for Einsturzende Neubauten later this year. I heard some rumblings about visa issues but I guess it's gonna happen. Scored tickets before it sold out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm Otis Fodder:

Ooooh, that's gonna be a good show if you can go.
Avatar 2:13pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@Otis: That all sounds super familiar, but I think I was there in 1999. I think I had MP3's of the 1998 show.
Avatar 2:13pm Mr Fab:

Wow, them Collapsing New Buildings are still around, eh? Still destroying stuff on stage?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Rich in Washington:

I don't think they've ever played Portland, but I could be wrong.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm Rich in Washington:

They are now referred to as Einstürzende Alte Deutsche. One of them drums on his walker.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm Rich in Washington:

I kid. I should talk: I pulled a muscle by reaching for my phone in my left rear pocket with my right arm.
Avatar 2:17pm Martinibomb:

Very cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm Rich in Washington:

Someone recently pointed out to me that Mike Watt sounds like Bender from Futurama on his podcast and now I cannot unhear it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm Otis Fodder:

Gonna play later and think of Bender, haaaaa
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm Rich in Washington:

This is really cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm Otis Fodder:

Really great 1969 collage/editing on this one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm Rich in Washington:

Yeah! That's what I was shooting for on a recent show, pieces of music from the late 60s with elements of sound collage in them. This would've fit the bill perfectly, had I known about it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm Rich in Washington:

neat to hear, the use of tape collage in this kind of music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm Otis Fodder:

Reminds me so much, in a way, of the amazing 'Sing Me A Song Of Songmy'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm Rich in Washington:

Yeah, exactly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm Otis Fodder:

... but 2 years before Songmy this way. Love it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm Rich in Washington:

Yeah, or Salvatore Martirano's L's GA
Avatar 2:40pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

This makes me think of Walter Murch's work in The Conversation somehow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm Rich in Washington:

Oh yeah. Murch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm Rich in Washington:

Another weird one is The John Benson Brooks Trio's Avant Slant, but the tape parts sound recorded in the studio from a script, rather than pieced together audio vérité style
Avatar 2:42pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Otis, what are you streaming with? I wonder if it's force-sending (empty) metadata, and that's why there's no song info in the live MP3 stream.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm Otis Fodder:

Sending with BUTT.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm Otis Fodder:

Yes, Avant Slant too. Good one!
Avatar 2:45pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

In BUTT settings, Stream tab, do you have anything set there?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm Rich in Washington:

Thanks, Otis! Wonderful show today!
Avatar 2:50pm Mr Fab:

As much as I love John Oswald, i never got around to this album. Y'know, Grateful Dead...but plunderphonic-ing anything sounds cool, of course.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Otis Fodder:

@Kenzo - nothing in stream, just the 'update song info' from file and manually.
Avatar 2:53pm BC Sterrett:

Howdy Folks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm Otis Fodder:

Thanks for listening all.

Hey BC!
Avatar 2:56pm Mr Fab:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm Otis Fodder:

Ha, I kid. That's your show! Ha ha. Here's Joey!
Avatar 3:02pm BC Sterrett:

I will do a show like that sometime, ...but it will be painful. If you're serious, can't wait to see what you play :)
