"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

Vic Arpeggio was the classic jazzy detective.
  11:33am hinorm:

Like I told this guy "i like Giant Steps" and he was like "I've been playing jazz for years. You can't understand Giant Steps the way I do."
Avatar 11:35am John Allen:

that's not a flower, it's math
  11:37am hinorm:

exactly. So now, when anyone asks if I like Jazz, I say "i hate music, leave me alone"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am David (in London):

@hinorm - Re that Giant Steps guy: the statement of the crashing jazz bore throughout the ages. Next time retort acidly "If you feel the need to big-up your understanding of jazz, you clearly don't really get it." That should send him a nice shade of crimson...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am steveo:

looks like that line of storms has reached j.c.; do you see any funnel clouds, john?
  11:42am hinorm:

@David (in London) I will take your advice the next time I'm unfortunate enough to encounter him. thank you

Love you JA,thx
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am mariano:

Hey JA, everyone, happy Friday! You know, I never noticed the comment at the top of the page - I'll never understand tuning in to FMU just to hear one kind of music. I've learned so much from FMU over the years by being exposed to all sorts of music that falls outside my personal comfort zone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am mariano:

At the top of the program page, not the Playlist page, to be clear. Anyway, thanks JA, great show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am David (in London):

@mariano - I like the way it ends 'I like Joe Belock a lot'.
  11:59am Mike Wolf:

Really awesome to see Gunn + Alan Licht + James McNew + Laura Ortman + William Tyler and others cover “All Tomorrow’s Parties” with noise and authority last nt at Union Pool
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm mariano:

Yeah, that is funny, David!
  12:00pm Mike Wolf:

THAT’s the morning show I wanted!
