Hello Scabheads!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm Krys O.:

Greetings!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm Handy Haversack:

Afternoon, all.
  3:03pm romandogbird:

hello
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Ken From Hyde Park:

This show is off the ringer already!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm mariano:

Hey Olivia, everyone!
  3:06pm Listener Robert:

If this is Radio Ravioli, can we rename Stashu's show Radio Pierogi?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm mariano:

Fyi, not sure if it's on my end or not, but the stream is having some hiccups.
  3:09pm Listener Robert:

Garbage Time could be renamed Radio Dump-ling.
Avatar 3:12pm northguineahills:

This Soul Jazz jewel slipped my notice.... ( I usually pick up all things Soul Jazz/Universal Sound recs related..)
  3:13pm Listener Robert:

And finally (I think) the late Joe Frank's "In The Dark" series could be renamed "Radio Dim Sum".
  3:13pm N:

Yes Mr Fingers
  3:18pm flashbazbo:

Can someone explain radio poke?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm mariano:

Oh yeah, Joe Frank... was hooked on his shows, need to revisit. Is anyone else getting steady interruptions of the FMU stream? Keeps happening with me, don't think it's my connection because everything else is working fine.
  3:19pm flashbazbo:

I don’t understand a few of the newer bistros
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm bɿɒiniɒc:

@mariano: no interruptions here, but sounds a trifle over modulated
Avatar 3:21pm northguineahills:

I prefer radio poke salad (bonus points for the Southerners who know what that may entail).
Avatar 3:23pm fred:

ADF... I only saw them three times or so, a long time ago. Not enough, I got lazy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm listener james from westwood:

Dig this Yarborough track!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Rob (Jerzcity):

@mariano - my stream's clean as far as I've been noticing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm steveo:

poke me no questions I'll pelt you no lies
  3:24pm flashbazbo:

In New York you know how to eat real fancy like. Poke salad? Uunnhhh!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm mariano:

Ok thanks for the feedback on the stream, y'all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm ParUbi:

Hello everyone! Hi Olivia!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm coelacanth∅:

greetings Olivia and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm mariano:

ParUbi and coelacanth∅, wussup!
Avatar 3:26pm northguineahills:

Poke is a PITA to boil multiple times to get the toxins out, but tastey if done right, and grows everywhere.
  3:28pm flashbazbo:

If poke is a pita that’s a wrap.
Avatar 3:28pm fred:

I'm going to miss a great show tomorrow: Ikue Mori, Nate Wooley, Mary Halverson, Susan Alcorn. But I'm going to see a Lucinda Childs piece I've never seen, and dance comes first for me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm ParUbi:

Waiting to join an online seminar :\

Avatar 3:31pm northguineahills:

damn, fred, I've seen Ikue, Nate, and Susan, but even though I'm good friends w/ one of Mary's music partners, somehow, I've never seen her live....
Avatar 3:34pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Alcorn = always a lovely set if one can...
Avatar 3:35pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

also: hello.
Avatar 3:35pm fred:

@ngh: I only saw her once, missing that show is very annoying, but as I said dance comes first
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm bɿɒiniɒc:

Do you want to know a secret? Do you promise not to tell?
Avatar 3:42pm fred:

Also, Lucinda Childs! I'm not Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker level fan, but in that ballpark

hey mariano!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm bɿɒiniɒc:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm steveo:

Do you want to know a secret? Do you promise not to tell? Then here it is, quite in the wind. A family with six children, with five men, one woman and a tiny goose. Two wolves, two sheep. One tortoise, and one lion. Now, listen to me very carefully, as I tell you this before you mention it to anybody. Now they're all alive, in fact. They're all alive, except the goose, that's dead. And I am the world's best camel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Webhamster Henry:

The Ravioli is out of the Radio, drained, and ready to serve with a nice puttanesca sauce.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm chresti:

Hello raviolis and camels!
Avatar 3:55pm northguineahills:

That was a curious piece by ex-Tortoise guitarist, Jeff Parker.... me gusta!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm chris:

@ngh: I've never heard Susan Alcorn live, damn. But Lucinda Childs remains wonderful, I can't miss her (music by David Lang too, played live by Maya Beiser)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm tim from champaign (now washington):

Are the fake Texas duo Hank & Slim related to the fake Texas combo Jon Wayne?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm olivia:

Hank and Slim is Robin Storey and Nigel Ayers of Nocturnal Emissions. there's a bunch of mutated, mix'd n flipp'd 'n stretched country
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm olivia:

On the CD, it describes them as a a duo from the 50s / 60s, who collaborrated and then had a falling out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm olivia:

they also tell you how to make Slim's "Dream Catcher", which is made by manipulating a Sony DAT machine with rubber bands
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm tim from champaign (now washington):

Very intriguing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Guido from Cologne:

Stringtronics!
Finally got the LP! 8of cause not the original)
Can it become more beautiful?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm steveo:

I've been putting Hank and Slim into the neural net text completion engine, but what you wrote above, Olivia, is better than anything it could come up with
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm Joe D.:

MADLIB SAMPLED THIS!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm Guido from Cologne:

Stringtronics is BBC arranger Barry Forgie (in this case) on library album "Mindbender".
"the holy grail of library" as they say.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Guido from Cologne:

I used to have the vinyl version of Barry 7's Connectors with the title printed so small you can hardly read the. the cover art is beautiful though, but what does it help?
Avatar 4:19pm fred:

I think I just ordered a book. Hopefully only the site was in German. Hard to tell, the site was about as skilled in foreign language as a French one, which is terrible
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm coelacanth∅:

heh, Guido i thought you'd just invented the word "stringtronics" as a reference to a dream catcher involving electronic devices
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm olivia:

It also says in the liner notes to Hank and Slim that "Hank made a brief comeback playing local gigs with a country/punk crossover band ... The band opened for better known acts such as k.d. lang, ZZ top, ... Hank especially liked the Thompson Twins and befriended lead singer Tom Bailey. .... However, Hank's brief comeback was not to last, as the interest for novelty punk bands died out. ... He left the music industry to return to his beloved Slim in Obscurity, Texas ... Hank and Slim remained recluses for another two decades before these recordings emerged. "(left out a lot that's on the CD case!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm steveo:

more good stuff; hank & slim are definitely my favorite fake texas duo
Avatar 4:24pm fred:

I got a second box of Jandek records from Texas this week. I got lucky and it avoided tariffs this time (somehow France sometimes deems Jandek a strategic threat)
  4:25pm yes:

Is this emdr therapy?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm Aitch:

Shame Hank and Slim never did anything with the Legendary Stardust Cowboy for a fake Texan 3 piece. Nice lilting show @Olivia, hi all (howdy even).

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm mariano:

"Is That All There Is?" reminds me of that Simpsons episode where Homer's running a daycare, and the kids say "Uncle Homer, sing that funny song you always sing!" and he starts singing it.
Avatar 4:33pm fred:

@mariano: did you get to ask Earth Walker about duck recipes?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Rich in Washington:

This is lovely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm Rich in Washington:

I hear Christine!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm mariano:

No, @fred, matter of fact it slipped my mind, thanks for the reminder! I think I passed out minutes after that exchange ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Aitch:

As long as you can't hear Christeene, that's quite scary
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Rich in Washington:

Hi Aitch!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Ike:

The addition of "a disco" doesn't make a heck of a lot of sense, come to think of it. If you're going to keep dancing as a substitute for being jaded about everything else, but you're jaded about the disco, where are you going to dance?
Avatar 4:37pm βrian:

Speaking of recipes, I've been dabbling with saffron: It makes kheer especially pretty, and yes, one can add too much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm Rich in Washington:

Oh. Cristina, I meant.
Avatar 4:38pm fred:

@mariano: come to think of it, I might have done the same thing

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Webhamster Henry:

Is That All There is makes a kind of a cameo in John August's movie "The Nines".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm olivia:

I like its use in Mad Men too, I think it starts an episode and then does it reappear later in?
Avatar 4:43pm fred:

Wasn't there a Shatner version of "Is that all there is"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm bɿɒiniɒc:

"let's bring out the ludes and have a ball"
A version with altered lyrics, by No wave singer Cristina, was available briefly in 1980. However, it offended songwriters Leiber and Stoller, who sued and were able to get it suppressed for some time. Produced by August Darnell (Kid Creole), this version was eventually re-issued in 2004, with the songwriters' blessing, as a bonus track on a Cristina compilation album - Wiki
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm Joe D.:

they played it over the end credits of the Britney Spears/Kevin Federline UPN reality show from 2005. That's the first time I ever heard it. No joke.
