Good luck following this chuckle fest, David.

Avatar 3:13pm David Dichelle:

Love the logo, Spodiodi!
Avatar 3:13pm David Dichelle:

And greetings Doctor J!
Avatar 3:15pm David Dichelle:

Carmichael: Thanks, that is another local public sculpture from here in the neighborhood.
  3:15pm spodiodi:

it's a little old, but nice and compact for a smooth multi-line delivery. (i can copy -and- paste with the best of 'em :D)
Avatar 3:16pm TDK60:

I must chime in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm redkayak:

This song is awesome, by the way....
Avatar 3:19pm TDK60:

Is this Indian music? Turkish? The stringed instrument sounds similar to a Turkish tanbur, maybe.
Avatar 3:20pm David Dichelle:

Hey there TDK60 - it is in fact Kurdish.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm Passaic River Blues:

@TDK60: the internet says Kurdish. The vocal range on the singer is astounding.
Avatar 3:24pm David Dichelle:

Hello Passaic River Blues, indeed it is - the singer is Donya Kamali.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Phillippe Bastille:

Hey David and fellow riders
Avatar 3:24pm TDK60:

Thanks David, Passaic R.B. Still may be a tanbur then, maybe? Love tanburs; if anyone has one gathering dust in the attic that they no longer want, please let me know...

RK: I will make sure to return to Nishtiman Project sometime soon...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm redkayak:

@david - thank you.....good stuff!
Avatar 3:31pm TDK60:

Thanks for the lineup, David. A search on Wikip. shows the tanbur and tambura to be the same thing, in this Kurdish case. en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar 3:32pm David Dichelle:

True, there are often many linguistic variants for the same instruments in the region (all regions?).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm redkayak:

@tdk - cool...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm Webhamster Henry:

A bendir is a frame drum with a kind of a snare in it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Mark Hurst:

Hi David! Hi Webham!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Webhamster Henry:

No expert - but my kids used to have one before the snare broke!
Avatar 3:41pm TDK60:

..it can get confusing as, for example, there's the Croatian-Serbian tambura (or tamburitza), the Turk-Kurd-etc. tanbur, and the Indian tambura, all different.
Avatar 3:44pm David Dichelle:

Hello Mark!
Avatar 3:44pm David Dichelle:

Henry: Well that can certainly make you an expert and fast!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm Webhamster Henry:

It's like citera, gitter, guitar, citar, and so forth, not to mention lutes and l'oud. People hear an instrument name and a description and then make up whatever they want!
  3:47pm Dean:

Then there's the stringed tar and the skinned tar.
Avatar 3:47pm David Dichelle:

That must be the origin of the expression "et citera".
Avatar 3:47pm Martinibomb:

Hullo David! and the rest of u I already know
Avatar 3:48pm David Dichelle:

Hey there Martinibomb - and Dean!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Webhamster Henry:

"Cetera" means "other things", probably used as "Whatchamacallits".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm chris:

et citera must be everything else you give up to master playing the damn things. hi, David and folks. enjoying the tunes!
Avatar 3:52pm TDK60:

David, I never heard of the Roud list of songs til your show. Aside from loads of fun listening to WFMU, I can get me some a-learning.
Avatar 3:53pm David Dichelle:

Hey Chris - yes, that would be citera criteria.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm redkayak:

75% of the reason I listen is for the Roud list....
The other 75% is for fun ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm redkayak:

.....quantum math!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm Webhamster Henry:

I was wondering if there are local (to you) folk groups that can fill in a few underpopulated Roud songs for you.
This German version goes well with the Scottish one!
Avatar 3:59pm Brian in UK:

Hello David and sound sightseers.
Avatar 4:02pm TDK60:

I must exit the building. Hope to check your archive in the glorious and shiny Future.
Avatar 4:03pm David Dichelle:

Thanks, TDK60!
Avatar 4:04pm David Dichelle:

Good evening, Brian!
Avatar 4:06pm David Dichelle:

WH: I may have to put together such a group myself.
  4:10pm Dean:

Peter Cetera sang and played bass with the band he founded, Chicago, with Terry Kath, etc.
Avatar 4:17pm David Dichelle:

Dean: We've been speaking about Cetera.

Had to tune out briefly. Re: cetera, I was punning! Perhaps you were, too?
Avatar 4:55pm David Dichelle:

Dean, I think we were all swinging for the pun fences there.

Avatar 5:09pm David Dichelle:

Salutations, coelacanth∅!
Avatar 5:10pm coelacanth∅:

that statue is bizarre and hilarious!
Avatar 5:13pm David Dichelle:

Coel: Yes, it is one of my favorites from the neighborhood.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm chris:

i notice the sign says clean drinking water, not beer. that's too bad.
Avatar 5:18pm David Dichelle:

The sign actually says "No Drinking Water", so even worse! On the other hand there are any number of pubs and shops all around there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm chris:

oh, haha! i guess my eyes lied to me. maybe too much beer :)
Avatar 5:21pm David Dichelle:

I did once have beer from a statuesque fountain, made to look like a miracle of water into beer, at a Czech brewery.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm ParUbi:

Kein Trinkwasser!
Avatar 5:23pm David Dichelle:

Hallo ParUbi!
  5:28pm spodiodi:

love the song, it's name, and ablum title
Avatar 5:30pm David Dichelle:

Yes, Spodiodi, it is irresistible.
Avatar 5:31pm βrian:

Ok, I'm back and dinner for the posse is underway.
Avatar 5:33pm David Dichelle:

βrian: Dinner always sounds good to me around this time of show.
Avatar 5:34pm βrian:

And I have a nice vinho português to aid the listening experience.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm doctorjazz:

I feel like dancing!
Avatar 5:34pm coelacanth∅:

yeh this is gorgeous
Avatar 5:36pm David Dichelle:

Now this is starting to sound like a party!
Avatar 5:38pm βrian:

Oh, well it's a simple tomato-based stew with cannelini beans, mahi-mahi, and just a bit of quinoa. Served with chewy croutons of locally made whole-grain bread.

(Not to go all food bloggy ...)
Avatar 5:41pm David Dichelle:

Sounds perfect with the vinho and the beer (not) from the fountain.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:00pm Webhamster Henry:

It's Fellini's 100th today. Jan 20, 1920, Rimini, Italy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:01pm Michael 98145:

Hello, David D and riders
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:01pm chris:

thanks tons, David. i'll take care to read all fountain placards carefully, at least until next week.
Avatar 6:03pm David Dichelle:

Thanks, Chris, have a good week!
Avatar 6:03pm David Dichelle:

And hello Michael!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm Michael 98145:

That is Quite a sculpture
Avatar 6:08pm David Dichelle:

Michael: Yes, lots of odd late-GDR artwork in the area.
Avatar 6:11pm βrian:

I don't want it to, but even here the impeachment news casts a shadow ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm Michael 98145:

This is enjoyably dramatic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm Michael 98145:

"Step over the threshold"
Avatar 6:21pm David Dichelle:

Indeed, and now the third movement "angoscioso".
Avatar 6:23pm David Dichelle:

βrian: Sorry to hear that, it can be quite distressing, I know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm Jeff Golick:

Hello. I'll have what she's pouring.
Avatar 6:29pm David Dichelle:

Hey Jeff, it looks almost like beer.
Avatar 6:32pm coelacanth∅:

David do know the name of that statue? i'd like to see it from other angles (particularly the woman's face) but i cannot find any pictures of it. i've tried about 8-10 different combinations of words
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32pm doctorjazz:

Home time, thanks, David!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm Michael 98145:

I'd say she hasn't missed many meals ...

Avatar 6:39pm βrian:

@Doug: I hope you're not implying you're an InContinentalist!
Avatar 6:39pm coelacanth∅:

Thanks David ...still i see no straight shots of her face but she's clearly a feisty one!
i think the shot you've got up is the best one -for several reasons
  6:42pm Dean:

Nice, a Tuckwell tribute!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm chresti:

She doesn't look very happy.
Avatar 6:46pm coelacanth∅:

no...what do you think she's pissed about?
-or is she just complaining about the tourists
  6:47pm Dean:

I'd be upset about all that "bier" landing anywhere but in my stein.
Avatar 6:47pm David Dichelle:

Dean, yes, just a brief tribute.
Avatar 6:47pm βrian:

"Damn that tanning lotion! I wanted to be bronzed, not bronze!"
Avatar 6:48pm David Dichelle:

Thanks, Coel!
  6:48pm Dean:
