Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm Carmichael:

Heya David and soon-to-be's. Have we made it up to the 1930s yet?
Avatar 3:00pm βrian:

Boo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm Jan Turkenburg:

wow a slavic Shocking Blue cover! Totally borrowing this one!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm Stanley:

Hi David.
The Continental Subway not on strike?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm Phillippe Bastille:

Hi David and everyone. Looks like the turnstiles took my Chuck E Cheese token for the fare!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm Jan Turkenburg:

Hi everyone by the way :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm David Dichelle:

Greetings and welcome to the 70s Carmichael, βrian, Jan, Stanley, Phillippe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm David Dichelle:

Jan: I thought you might like this one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm bɿɒiniɒc:

The 70s! Allright!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm Jan Turkenburg:

Is this Czech?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm Cmurtha:

Hello!
Avatar 3:03pm monkeyz:

hops onto the train, hello david et.al.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm David Dichelle:

Hey there monkeyz, Cmurtha, bɿɒiniɒc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm David Dichelle:

Jan, yes it was.
  3:05pm John from Florham park:

Hello fellow subway listeners
Avatar 3:06pm TDK60:

Hi David, Just here by chance, and can't stay long..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm David Dichelle:

Ahoy John and TDK60!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm Cmurtha:

ooh Azeri
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

almost missed the train! some crazy lady was yelling in sheena's jungle room
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm brainiac:

I think I recognized the riff from Journey's "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)" in the Iveria number
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm David Dichelle:

Brainiac: Do you think they took it from Iveria?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm David Dichelle:

I guess I need to tone down my planned crazy yelling then, Granny Spicy Tuna.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm brainiac:

@David: I wouldn't be surprised
Avatar 3:13pm βrian:

When I look at that photo I wonder, who lives in those apartments in the background?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm kuba:

god damn our wifi is so bad that i commented on the main stream playlist... (or maybe i had too much rum)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Granny I thought you were always the CRAZY YELLING PERSON!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm David Dichelle:

βrian: Perfectly normal people, I'm sure. The area is not as bad as the picture of the garages would have you think.
Avatar 3:15pm TDK60:

βrian: I'll venture a guess that Leipzig citizens live in those buildings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm Phillippe Bastille:

@kuba I do that at least once a month, and I do it without the benefit of rum
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm David Dichelle:

Hey Kuba, I hope they appreciated your comment nonetheless.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm kuba:

good evening everybody & dave
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm David Dichelle:

Good evening to you and your rum!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm kuba:

they ignored me, and, oh look, i have a ~1min comment delay. and my cache is underflowing, might be out in a sec...
Avatar 3:18pm βrian:

Oh, I'm sure that, soon enough, those gates will end up in a gallery. But the background interests me more. Ya know, like porn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm Phillippe Bastille:

Gets even more confusing if I switch message boards without switching streams.
Me: "This doesn't sound like Big Blood! Isn't this a big departure for them or am I missing something?"
Them: "No, this is Edith Piaf. You're absolutely missing something"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Phillippe Bastille: today i am too sleepy to yell, and not enough rum
Avatar 3:21pm βrian:

Big Sparrow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Brian that would be a great name for a metal Piaf cover band for sure
Avatar 3:24pm βrian:

Might get sued by Mighty Sparrow, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm David Dichelle:

Slightly Large Starling?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm doctorjazz:

Go Riders!
Avatar 3:27pm TDK60:

I remember the '70s, everything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm kuba:

hehe i just poured myself another rum. cheers to stream confusion!
Avatar 3:28pm βrian:

I even recall that ELO concert.
Avatar 3:30pm TDK60:

Those Bavarian hippies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm kuba:

i spent new year's eve at a bavarian hippies house. they had an alp in their backyard!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Mark Hurst:

Hi David! Happy to be on the subway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm chresti:

Hello David and passengers, jumping on..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm David Dichelle:

Welcome aboard Mark and Chresti!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm David Dichelle:

And Doctorjazz!
Avatar 3:34pm northguineahills:

So, the sign on the gate means don't go left or right, but just blow through the gate (or go in reverse)?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm David Dichelle:

Hey NGH - no parking or standing actually, which makes a lot of sense there.
Avatar 3:36pm northguineahills:

I still like my interpretation better....

I bet you have Pentangle's version cued up somewhere....
Avatar 3:37pm northguineahills:

Well, I must be a wizard!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm David Dichelle:

NGH: A step ahead!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

this one is younger
Avatar 3:39pm TDK60:

David are there bands in Germany of a similar folk-rock sound to Steeleye Span, Pentangle, etc? Maybe you've played some?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm David Dichelle:

Well spotted, GST, I can imagine Span opted for a less shocking version.
Avatar 3:40pm βrian:

I thought it had more to do with the efflorescence of ferrous oxide as commentary on the liminal perceptions of traffic, motile agency, and stasis in modern society.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm brainiac:

yeah, me too
Avatar 3:41pm northguineahills:

βrian: gets it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm David Dichelle:

TDK60: Sure, I've played a few Ougenweide tracks, for example. A lot of the bands here that play that type of music turn more to goth or metal vibes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

we sing the pentangle version at my summer camp. never heard this martin carthy version, very lovely
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm David Dichelle:

Wow, that must be some summer camp!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

@David: yes, i'd say so. It's been around 85 years and has an amazing music program, where i learned many very old ballads, broadsides and shanties!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Phillippe Bastille:

I wish I knew more shanties :(
Avatar 3:50pm βrian:

I could introduce you to a few, but it's been too warm here to form solid ice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

let's all get together with some rum and have a shanty singalong party!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm kuba:

you know what, gst, this rum *does* work really well with this shanty. i'm in
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Phillippe Bastille:

sounds like a plan!
Avatar 3:54pm TDK60:

Granny, I played bass in combos many years, always in the background. Recently I took up acoustic guitar and singing; folk and rock covers. I started attending open mikes, in there among those trying to get noticed, build careers. I'm just playing music for its own sake.
Avatar 3:55pm βrian:

I'll bring the auger.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm David Dichelle:

We can start with virtual rum and shanties and work our way toward a meet-up somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic someday...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm chresti:

On a ship!
Avatar 4:06pm TDK60:

I have to exit. Thanks for the music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm David Dichelle:

Thanks, TDK60
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm chresti:

TDK that's a good reason to make music, for it's own sake
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm kuba:

the (inter)continental subway listening party with rum on the, uh, azores?
Avatar 4:09pm TDK60:

Chresti, you caught just as I was about to click off. Remind me sometime and I'll tell ya the sort of songs I'm attempting...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm chresti:

Will do!
Avatar 4:12pm Sem:

Good evening, David, and all aboard.
Avatar 4:13pm βrian:

I just priced some saffron: $113.89 for ¼ ounce. Yikes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm David Dichelle:

Good (early) evening to you, Sem!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm David Dichelle:

Kuba: Azores works for me
Avatar 4:19pm fred:

Good evening David and passengers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm David Dichelle:

And a good evening to you, Fred - how's the situation in Paris?
Avatar 4:27pm fred:

Rumor has it that there might be a few subways on my line tomorrow morning. Probably too crowded though, but maybe the strike is winding down
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm David Dichelle:

That's good, I suppose - how long has this been going on?
Avatar 4:29pm fred:

It started on December 5th
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Michael 98145:

Greetings, Comrades.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm David Dichelle:

Salutations Michael!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm David Dichelle:

Fred: Has car traffic been as bad as one would imagine as a result?
Avatar 4:49pm fred:

I don't drive, so I don't really know. But I don't think so, I've seen much worse on that front (in that the car jams didn't go all the way back to where I live, 4km from the city)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm chresti:

I've got to jump off and visit a pharmacy, thanks David!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm Carmichael:

Hope they're good drugs, chresti.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm David Dichelle:

My pleasure as always, Chresti!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm chresti:

Nevermind, I'll do it tomorrow, I realized I'd get stuck in school traffic.
They are good drugs, Carmichael.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm chresti:

In the meantime, coffee, cannabis, and music, will do the trick!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm Phillippe Bastille:

@chresti what pharmaceuticals do you need? I have a mother lode scattered around the house (though "mother lode" and "scattered" probably shouldn't exist in the same sentence...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Stanley:

Hi fred. I'm sill holding off booking my trains until I know it's settled.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm chresti:

Ritalin @Phillipe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Carmichael:

Yay drugs!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm David Dichelle:

Stanley: Has the Eurostar been down during the strikes?
Avatar 5:29pm fred:

@Stanley: that sounds wise
  5:33pm melinda:

Hi everyone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm David Dichelle:

Hello Melinda!
Avatar 5:39pm fred:

@David: International traffic was a priority so hasn't been hit as much (a coworker went to Leipzig for the Chaos Computer Club conference and had no problem). But going beyond Paris to another place in France is less reliable (though the strike is mostly within Paris by now)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm David Dichelle:

Yes, that makes sense, I suppose. I hope your coworker had a good time here in Leipzig.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm doctorjazz:

Purty!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm Webhamster Henry:

Hi David, I've been listening, but my hands were not in the chat board! Nice cimbalom here1
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm David Dichelle:

Hey WH and DJ, yes indeed - and here's part 2, with a slightly different sound.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm Phillippe Bastille:

@chresti we used to have a cache of Adderal around here (my son and I both took it) but it just made us crazy (which is why we have a motherlode of other stuff lol)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Fred seeing any good dance stuff lately, or is the transportation strike keeping you from the good stuff?
Avatar 5:57pm Sem:

My stop. Thank you once again for this show. G'night, all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm chresti:

@Phillipe, yeah, adderal is nasty, (my son and I took it, when he was younger) I switched to Ritalin because it won't eat my brain like Adderal does.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm chresti:

'Night Sem
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm David Dichelle:

Thanks, Sem, have a good night as well!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:01pm Carmichael:

I gotta fly away, David. Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm David Dichelle:

Thanks, Carmichael, happy soaring!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm Phillippe Bastille:

@chresti our doc prescribed it along with Effexor -- talk about bad brain stuff...
  6:06pm Tamar:

Enjoying the sonic emanations this afternoon, David.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm Phillippe Bastille:

My night to cook, so I have to hop off here. Just slow down a little on the next curve and I'll jump and roll, David. Thanks for a great show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm David Dichelle:

Hey Tamar, glad you've been enjoying!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm David Dichelle:

And thanks PB!
Avatar 6:09pm fred:

@Phillippe: No dance shows lately, but just because of the holiday break. No mere strike is going to keep me away from dance shows
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Fred good to hear
Avatar 6:12pm fred:

Lcinda Childs is next in a couple of weeks
Avatar 6:15pm fred:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm David Dichelle:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm David Dichelle:

Michael: I suppose for a film on the Gezi Park protests.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm Michael 98145:

Ah, yes. Istanbul.
Avatar 6:42pm βrian:

Popping back down. I've got the biryani-esque dish in the oven. Splurged on some saffron, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm Michael 98145:

Wow - "Three and a half million people (out of Turkey's population of 80 million) are estimated to have taken an active part in almost 5,000 demonstrations across Turkey connected with the original Gezi Park protest."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:45pm David Dichelle:

βrian: Sounds delicious
Avatar 6:47pm βrian:

@David D: I sure hope so. Six-year-old is fairly discriminating.
Avatar 6:50pm βrian:
