Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Phillippe Bastille:

Hey David and everyone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Webhamster Henry:

The Lyrics for Tea For Two were dummy lyrics that never got rewritten!
Avatar 3:04pm Sem:

Hello, Conductor David, and all aboard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Webhamster Henry:

Let's stay in the '20s, shall we?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm doctorjazz:

Hi, David! Happy New Year!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm Carmichael:

My research tells me that the building is an old Austrian train station?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm Jan Turkenburg:

I like the show already!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm Phillippe Bastille:

Is that true WH?
Avatar 3:05pm David Dichelle:

Phillippe, Henry, Sem, Doctorjazz, Jan - happy new year!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm Cmurtha:

cyclic history is nonsense, but its disturbing how many parallels there are between the lead up to our 20s and the 1920s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Webhamster Henry:

I've never heard Joséphine sing in English!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Carmichael:

Will Trump become Archduke Ferdinand?
Avatar 3:08pm David Dichelle:

Carmichael that is the Bavarian Station (Bayerischer Bahnhof), just a short distance away from here in Leipzig, in fact.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm Carmichael:

Thanks David. I searched for the words on the building ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm Webhamster Henry:

@Phillippe Here's Wikipedia on the subject:
While in Chicago, Youmans developed the idea into "a song that the hero could sing to the heroine" for the musical No, No, Nanette. He soon after played his composition for Irving Caesar and insisted he write the lyrics then and there. Caesar quickly jotted down a mock-up lyric, fully intending to revise it later on. Youmans, though, loved the mock-up and convinced Caesar it was just right for the melody.

Irving Caesar lived for a long time and I think was interviewed by WFMU DJ Dave The Spazz.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm Webhamster Henry:

Lookin' forward to a good-sized Weimar set.
Avatar 3:21pm David Dichelle:

Henry: Not to worry -although I'm not sure if they will be in one particular set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm chresti:

Hi David and subway riders!
Avatar 3:25pm David Dichelle:

Hello Chresti!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm chresti:

Yay! The 20s!
Avatar 3:26pm David Dichelle:

Also Henry: I'd like to hear that interview, but it has to have been pre-archival.
Avatar 3:28pm Listening Out There:

My IQ's in the 20's, BTW...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Carmichael:

A different 20s, chresti ...
Avatar 3:29pm David Dichelle:

LOT, the 1920s?
Avatar 3:29pm Listening Out There:

...could be the positive 20's, maybe the negative 20's. Can't remember...
  3:32pm Dean:

Monica played a tiny excerpt of the Caesar interview in '04, archived here at ~1:03:30: https://wfmu.org/playlists/shows/13351
Avatar 3:37pm David Dichelle:

Hello and thanks, Dean!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm Jan Turkenburg:

Now THIS I didn't know... the original of 'those where the days'?
Avatar 3:39pm Listening Out There:

What Jan said. I've never heard this...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Carmichael:

Apparently the English version had re-written lyrics, but essentially the same song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm chris:

lots of meanings for doroga, since my russian is for crap, i'd armchair the sense of the song as longing for the days of travel or the days of the highroad. hi, David D and folks!
Avatar 3:45pm Sem:

Armchair as a verb. Chris, you're my kinda people!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm chris:

:)
Avatar 3:48pm David Dichelle:

Hello Chris, yes that's pretty much the sense of it, I think. And I also approve of your use of armchair!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm Jan Turkenburg:

and I hear a tiny spark of "Flinstones" in this :-)
Avatar 3:52pm David Dichelle:

Oops, now I'm not sure which song you meant, Jan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Jan Turkenburg:

Wings Fliegerlied, just the first part of the phrase
Avatar 3:54pm TDK60:

Hello David; it's been a while.
Avatar 3:54pm David Dichelle:

Hello TDK60, great to see you!
Avatar 3:55pm TDK60:

Oh, the Twenties. Both my parents were born in the '20s. My father is still alive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm chresti:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm chresti:

@WH @312 Thanks! I had to step away, I appreciate the background!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Cmurtha:

Whenever I hear this all I can think of Len Lye's little stop motion/puppet thing.
  4:47pm Dean:

I'm hearing a more rustic Conchita Supervia in Montaner.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm Webhamster Henry:

It's hard to believe how popular "The Peanut Vendor" was.It makes me think of those rococo Rapp & Rapp movie palaces.
Avatar 4:49pm βrian:

Gotta catch the bus. Thanks, David.
Avatar 4:51pm David Dichelle:

βrian: Hope the transfer goes smoothly.
Avatar 4:56pm David Dichelle:

I could use a few peanuts just about now, come to think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm Stanley:

Aint this sweet!
Avatar 6:29pm βrian:

In fact, I got on the short one, this time. Oh my!
Avatar 6:35pm βrian:

My house was built in 1927, so this music from this show resonates especially well. The cubicle acoustics, earlier, just weren't the same.
Avatar 6:36pm David Dichelle:

Glad the vibes are right!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm doctorjazz:

Also did love 20s jazz, great stuff!
Avatar 6:36pm βrian:

They are. They really wax my cylinders.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46pm doctorjazz:

Duke! Bubber!
Avatar 6:49pm northguineahills:

Sorry, had to take a nap. Back for the end (too many tamales after manual labor).
Avatar 6:51pm βrian:

@NGH: Your own tamales? Or do you have a good local source?
Avatar 6:53pm northguineahills:

βrian: Actually I was too lazy. but there is an actual authentic central Mexi restaurant/store a few blocks away.
Avatar 6:55pm βrian:

I used to get excellent Salvadoran tamales in A². The wrapper/container is plantain leaves, if I remember.
Avatar 6:56pm βrian:

BTW, I'm proud of six-year-old. She's reluctant to try spicy food, but last night she had some of an adult-level spiced biryani. It needed a little cottage cheese accommodation, but she really loved it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm Webhamster Henry:

Sophie Tucker always kept up with a fresh supply of (lightly off color) material and had lots of what would be called "friends" these days, sending out postcards before her appearances etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:59pm chresti:

Thanks David!
Brian, my son took to spicy food at a young age, too,
Avatar 6:59pm βrian:

Spice is the spice of life.
