I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Avatar 12:03pm Mayuko:

Happy new year, fred and james! Thanks for joining me!!
  12:05pm rw:

Avatar 12:05pm Mayuko:

Good morning and happy new year, rw!!!
Avatar 12:08pm Sem:

Hello, Mayuko, and all.
Avatar 12:11pm JosephB:

Happy New Year everyone! あけましておめでとう!
Avatar 12:13pm Mayuko:

Thanks for tuning in, my radio family Sem!
Joe B! あけましておめでとー!
  12:14pm rw:

Welcome back Mayuko and Happy 2020 everyone!

Joe! I have no idea what this means, but I'll reiterate あけましておめでとー !!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Rich in Washington:

Hi there, Mayuko!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm Rich in Washington:

Hi everybody!
Avatar 12:17pm Mayuko:

@rw Joe B spelled it correctly, mine is wrong, just FYI.
Avatar 12:18pm Mayuko:

Thank you for tuning in, Rich with a new broccoli head! I like that it looks like your head is exploded at first glance but it's actually a pretty healthy thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm listener james from westwood:

I am glad they're still putting out good industrial-dance-type tracks such as this! The LFO was a lovely time (W)arp, too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm fred:

@Mayuko: A dance show reminded me of the name of your show: dancers first walking in tightening circles, then spinning around, often very fast. They kept spinning for 20+ minutes then stopped on a dime, without even stumbling (that's why they're pros). It was called "Turning_motion sickness version", by Alessandro Sciarroni
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Dropof Goldensun:

Happy New Year all you Listenerds!
  12:19pm chresti ->SF->San Gabriel:

Hi Mayuko! Happy new year!
Getting ready to go home, sounds are helping me pack!

  12:21pm melinda:

Hello friends
  12:22pm Dave B.:

Greetings Mayuko. Happy New Year
  12:22pm rw:

Haha! In that case, あけましておめでとう!!!
Avatar 12:24pm Mayuko:

@james oh yes! 90's warp<3!!! except I just got introduced to Jimi Tenor's music in Finland! Not sure how I missed him in the 90's, I must have been abducted by a UFO and was absent or something then.
  12:25pm rw:

'90s UFO abductions were rampant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Rich in Washington:

This is lovely.
  12:26pm Robert Tables:

HNY! あけおめ!
Avatar 12:27pm Mayuko:

@fred the name Play Vertigo was referring to dancing indeed, so it makes me happy to hear you remembered this show there. except it sounds like those particular dancers never get disoriented, unlike this radio program!
  12:27pm rw:

We're going to hear about the trip to Finland, right? No need to ask about it here?
Avatar 12:27pm Mayuko:

Happy happy new year to you too, Dropof! Glad to have you here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm fred:

Well, I got disoriented at times, especially when the dancers were backlit, my perception of which way they were spinning kept changing
Avatar 12:35pm Mayuko:

Happy new year and thank you for tuning in, chresti, coel, melinda, and Dave B! Glad to have you all here with me!
Avatar 12:35pm Mayuko:

Robert, あけおめー!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Mayuko and listenerds. I trust your trip went well. Back to increasing daylight.
Avatar 12:40pm Mayuko:

@rw I was thinking of playing music from Finland and Japan that have particular type of shitty quality in common, but decided not to start my 2020 with THAT, haha! So maybe more Finland talk next week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm fred:

Sounds like next week's show will be appointment radio
Avatar 12:43pm Mayuko:

Hi Ken, happy new year! Yes! Now back to supposedly more sunlight but it's been kinda rainy and cloudy and foggy here in Brooklyn too, doesn't feel much of an improvement in that department so far.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Michael 98145:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Michael 98145:

forty years ago ?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Dropof Goldensun:

Great words Mayuko, thanks for being here. I've been going through lots of rough patches lately but on 12/12 I was involved in a very bad car accident. It really helped me see a new perspective on my life. I know it sounds corny but it's the truth. Btw, this is one of my favorite Cure songs.
  1:09pm rw:

Have a good one Joe! It's nice out there!
  1:10pm spodiodi:

holy crap, i'm old
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm fred:

I remember listening to this track on my walkman while walking to high school
  1:10pm rbrt:

lol 40 years ago is crazy!
  1:10pm spodiodi:

to your recovery, Drop
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm Dropof Goldensun:

@fred - right with you on this song and high school! lol Hard to believe. It feels like a lifetime ago.
Avatar 1:12pm ParUbi:

I practically burned a hole through this song on the CD
  1:14pm rw:

DG, Sorry to hear it. Sounds like you're handling it well. Here's to a happy and healthy decade!
  1:16pm rw:

Novocain! I had a couple wisdom teeth pulled a few weeks ago. Shit wiped me out more than I had anticipated. Good luck with the dental work Mayuko!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm Doug Schulkind:

So sorry to hear this, Dropof Goldensun. I wish you swift healing, inside and out.

Great to be back and sailing this ship on the drummer stream again, Doug!! Happy New Year to you too!!!!!!!!!

Hii Web-ham-Henry! Thank you! I really enjoyed making art over there...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm Rich in Washington:

Why would someone need a computer in their house? What are they doing - plotting rocket trajectories of something?
Avatar 1:19pm Mayuko:

Happy new year, rbrt!! Thanks for tuning in!!
Avatar 1:20pm ParUbi:

Y Pants is new to me, and that song! I need more!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Michael 98145:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Dave in Vermont:

also listened to that Cure album on cassette on my way to high school, with a walkman that tuned in through the radio somehow, don't remember the details
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm Rich in Washington:

I recall reading about a patent application by Frank Zappa and an inventor friend where people would buy recorded music over their phone lines in real time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm Michael 98145:

music thru a dial-up modem!
  1:22pm rbrt:

pavement! man this seems so long ago too lol :((
Avatar 1:22pm Mayuko:

You are a saint! You ARE saving the world, Rickwaukee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm Rich in Washington:

I remember 20+ years ago and Saturdays spent downloading individual songs on my dialup. It was like ice-fishing; set your pole in the hole and go about your business - and VOILA! In six hours or so, you'd have your two or three songs!
  1:24pm Rickwaukee:

@Mayuko - yeah, it feels like that every time.
  1:25pm rbrt:

ice fishing for songs..I love that :D
  1:25pm spodiodi:

love the analogy, Rich
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Rich in Washington:

and then I discovered the wonderful world of open dex surfing. I think that's where my mp3 hoarding really took off. P2P was rather obnoxious for me.
  1:26pm Rickwaukee:

I had a portable cassette player that had a FM tuner "cassette" module that went in the cassette bay. The whole device weighed around 4 pounds. (TEAC ?)
Avatar 1:27pm Mayuko:

Hi Dave in Vermont! It DOES feel like it was so much longer! Thanks for being here with me on the radio again!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm Rich in Washington:

Martinibomb just informed me that Soulseek is still a thing. I hadn't a clue!
Avatar 1:27pm Mayuko:

Happy new year to you too, P-90!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm Michael 98145:

since cassettes are returning, are walkman devices still being sold?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Rich in Washington:

I remember those, Rickwaukee! I recall that I had one for my Walkman knockoff (Knockman?) as well.
  1:28pm Rickwaukee:

not to fixate, but Shitkatapult label! HAW
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Rich in Washington:

@Michael 98145: I think so. There's a really, really cheap looking portable cassette player with built in USB capabilities that I see advertised everywhere.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm Michael 98145:

loving this set
  1:30pm Rickwaukee:

If anyone wants to know what 1981 sounds like in my head - this Honeymoon Killers track is pretty much IT
Avatar 1:31pm Mayuko:

@fred @1:07 at the end of 2019 I was crowned in Oslo with a crown made of pink tissue paper, so I figured now I am a KING.
  1:32pm JakeGould:

Hey Mayuko! How’s this fog treating you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm fred:

I didn't know Crammed Discs had been around for so long
Avatar 1:33pm Mayuko:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm Michael 98145:

All Hail Mayuko
Avatar 1:34pm Mayuko:

Have a great weekend, Joe B, who left already 20 minutes ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar 1:34pm ParUbi:

Do people have a tape deck recommendation?
  1:35pm JakeGould:

If you are looking for decent old school gear, Retrospekt in Wisconsin is really good. Excellent refurbishers. https://retrospekt.com/
  1:37pm JakeGould:

ParUbi, if you want a tape deck I recommend not getting one thrifted unless it’s refurbished. The reason being the belts on those things dry up, melt away or disintegrate. Get one that definitely works.
  1:37pm Martinibomb:

@ParUbi one that you can open up and work on/replace rubber bands easy / get parts. I don't have a specific model I can personally recommend but that's what I'd look for. Many record shops now refurbish them
Avatar 1:38pm Mayuko:

Oh my god Dropof! I am so glad you survived the accident. I am so sorry to hear such scary thing happened to you. Having a new perspective definitely truly matters, it's no corny business! Because SO many things are really depending on how we set our mind on to them, maybe much more than we think.
  1:39pm Ike:

Soulseek, yep, still useful now and then esp. for out-of-print things that cost $10 katrillion on Discogs or whatever....
Avatar 1:40pm Mayuko:

Belated welcome on board greetings, ParUbi! Happy new year !!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm fred:

That Machida Machizo track was fun

this number girl track is charging me up
Avatar 1:45pm Mayuko:

Hey happy new year, JakeGould! This fog is making me feeling like I'm still in Finland!
  1:46pm rw:

Okay, I can't stand answering emails anymore this morning. Moving to the garage for the remainder and some bicycle maintenance. Happy weekend / decade everyone!! Pick up that poop!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm Dropof Goldensun:

Thanks spodiodi, rw and Doug.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Dropof Goldensun:

Mayuko, I'm glad I survived the accident too! If you had asked me a few days prior the accident I may not have cared. In a split second it was like a realized nothing really matters.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm fred:

I once declined a backstage pass to a Pixies show because I hadn't heard about them. Maybe that factors into why I'm now so eager to see bands I've never heard about
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks, Mayuko. Excellent recovery music today!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm WR:

Listening while squeezed in a bus because all queens bound trains are canceled due to track & signal problems. At least aboveground can stream PV and it is new PV because we are back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm WR:

Monday, listening as preparing soup. Had listened to hlf of show on the bus trip. The rock half is very interesting. Several new to me Japanese performers. Thank you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm WR:

And the Finnish band Apulanta! One request, in your effort to "be more coherent in the mic breaks" please don't stop speaking of what is on you mind, driving your mood and thoughts that shape your music choices. Your mic breaks have been equal to the music played that keeps your show on my must listen short list.
