Favoriting January 2, 2020: Part VII & VIII : The Rings of Saturn by W.G. Sebald
Memories of pre-war Berlin with Michael Hamburger, a beetle swimming shore to shore in a darkened well, Irish country houses and a eerie trip to Orfond Ness. I find myself trapped in the Munich airport thinking of Sebald's connection with the animals throughout The Rings of Saturn.

Finally, a general question: It seems that Sebald's writings hover between fiction and nonfiction. Which elements are fictional? That ambiguity, I guess, is part of the work of the text.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm
ParUbi:

Haha, he had to drink that Cherry Coke at that small town store. Hilarious scene.

It's worth it! Doesn't have a conventional plot at all, though. Sustained meditations on place, free association, and dreams.

@ParUbi Sebald talks about forging some of the pictures in the book and using fictions within the non-fiction in this short segment, you might find it interesting: www.youtube.com...

@GST: Either chorizo/refried beans/seranos//eggs (spices) tacos or tamales....,but my brothers want me to join them for drinks, so, that may curtail that. Tomorrow, I'm making udon soup (w/ tofu and seaweed, etc)

Thanks, @Adriene. Memory is such a huge part of this, I wonder if the forgery is meant to reflect the shifting unreliability of memory...

In putting the show together I've been able to variety a few fictions, but they really blend in with everything else!

"I think that fiction writing which does not acknowledge the uncertainty of the narrator himself is a form of imposture which I find very, very difficult to take. Any form of authorial writing where the narrator sets himself up as stagehand and director and judge and executor in a text, I find somehow unacceptable. I cannot bear to read books of this kind."
