Hey Emily - thanks for regaling us with music on Xmas Eve/Day!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06am Emily L:

MERRY XMAS ALL!! Thnx thnx thnx for tuning in
Avatar 12:08am JakeGould:

Nice way to blast into Christmas.
  12:17am nachurall:

Merry Christmas Emily, enjoyed last weeks show on the holiday commute earlier.
Avatar 12:19am khd:

aww, i just missed depressed christmas. how depressing.
Avatar 12:20am coelacanth∅:

greetings Emily and others
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27am chresti:

Hi, holiday tidings!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36am Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, pals. I'm working on a catchy little ditty called "I Wanna Woof Moo Christmas!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38am mariano:

I had no idea there was an earlier Go Go's. This Max Eider just reminded me something I saw yesterday, a YouTube clip of Nirvana doing Teen Spirit on Top of the Pops. By that point he was so sick of that song that he started singing it like Morrissey, was hilarious! And a really good impression.
Avatar 12:46am JakeGould:

Ho! Ho! Ho! Look at how kids in were ripped off on the phone talking to “Santa” back in the day. Only 69 cents per minute? Nice. youtu.be...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46am Emily L:

Ha! Amazing.
Avatar 12:49am JakeGould:

I am hyperventilating from this other 1-900 Santa commercial; it’s even more amazing. “I’ll tell you how to hey a ‘Woopie’ from my Christmas collection!” youtu.be...
Avatar 12:50am JakeGould:

Pay like $3 to “talk” to Santa and then get a cotton ball with goggly eyes from his “collection.”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51am Emily L:

So dark!
  12:53am JakeGould:

Full confesh: I called those lines on like 1982 or so. Flipped my dad out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59am mariano:

What happened? Did you talk to Santa or was it a recording?
  1:06am pp:

Basement 5 = UK version of Flipper
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07am Emily L:

Woah, totally
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10am mariano:

So apparently Henry Rollins and Cyndi Lauper dueted "Rise Above" recently.
  1:14am JakeGould:

@mariano: Prerecorded message. Clearly on tape. With encouragement to press buttons on the phone to hear more stories. To this day I still regret doing it because there was a $4-5 extra charge on my dad’s bill.
Avatar 1:17am coelacanth∅:

chemicals has an early devo sound
Avatar 1:17am coelacanth∅:

(shoulda said that before it was over)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18am mariano:

Oh, that's a drag @Jake.
  1:25am matt:

doctor who sucks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29am Emily L:

Dr. Whom?
  1:30am nathaniel:

Love the Beatles x-mas recordings...try to listen to them every year. Thanks for playing Emily. Great show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31am mariano:

Yeah, @nathaniel, this is a treat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34am mariano:

I wonder if Nick's Psychedelic Breakfast was originally part of Pink Floyd's Christmas fanclub release.
Avatar 1:38am coelacanth∅:

pink floyd had a xmas fanclub record?
Avatar 1:39am Hubig Pie:

He ta'mie Francoise Hardy
Avatar 1:40am Hubig Pie:

Lou Reed moi aussi
Avatar 1:41am coelacanth∅:

(i can use "a xmas" because xmas is pronounced christmas right?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44am mariano:

@coela: No, was just musing. Would be a hoot if they did!
Avatar 1:52am coelacanth∅:

hey you never know! they were at emi when the beatles were and their label didn't understand what they were doing. out of the sheer ignorance of their label they could've been told to make one for promotional purposes.
  1:54am Mike Wolf:

Santa got my letter
i only wanted to hear
Bow Wow Wow
on the radio
Avatar 1:55am Hubig Pie:

A merry Can Christmas
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55am mariano:

Haha! I can see the execs doing that, @coela. I'm imagining a voice-over like in Spinal Tap's Christmas With the Devil: "This is Spinal Tap, wishing you and yours the very happiest of Holiday seasons."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56am Emily L:

And a happy Can-ukkah to all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58am Emily L:

Almost played Christmas With the Devil! Pairs will with King Diamond's No Presents for Christmas
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00am mariano:

That would be an excellent pairing, Emily!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03am mariano:

No presents for Christmas because the rats ate them, there's real narrative continuity between the two.
  2:04am nathaniel:

Cool version of I Won't Hurt You! I've only heard the West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band version.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05am chresti:

I think you pronounce xmas like cross-mass
  2:05am Colin in Durham, England:

I hate that The Take aren’t on Spotify and now I have to rip it off YouTube and steal it like in the olden days
  2:05am greatbarrington:

Holly holy to all! thanks for helming this slot Emily L!
  2:06am greatbarrington:

I had that Take on a Aus/NZ no wave comp... Ever so good
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07am Emily L:

Australia/NZ post punk always delivers in spades
Avatar 2:07am coelacanth∅:

haha i don't think so chresti!
  2:08am greatbarrington:

Indeed it's like cold water, never goes bad
  2:09am Colin in Durham, England:

This is all excellent
  2:10am greatbarrington:

@Colin Micah had me on mediafire earlier, it felt like I good way to end the decade :)
Avatar 2:10am coelacanth∅:

..."x" is just a shorthand version of "christ", or "christos" in the greek alphabet; pronounced as we say those words.
...i might not be completely accurate! but it's something like that.
...christ is still in xmas!
Avatar 2:11am Hubig Pie:

St Etienne is the patron saint of groovy music
  2:12am greatbarrington:

i think it has something to do with Kris Kross, the duo
Avatar 2:13am coelacanth∅:

and not Chris Cross, from ultravox!?
  2:14am greatbarrington:

I was trying to explain Kris Kross to some modern day youngsters and they thought the concept was not fully iterated, that one should only wear their jacket backward and the other wear his pants backward
  2:14am Colin in Durham, England:

I take back the last thing I said
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14am mariano:

When you get caught between the moon and New York City...
  2:15am greatbarrington:

Nor Christopher Cross coela! :)
  2:16am greatbarrington:

I owe you a Coke mariano!
  2:16am flashbazbo:

I need to turn it up to hear Alan. Hope it’s not an mistake
  2:16am greatbarrington:

X-Clan
Avatar 2:18am coelacanth∅:

now i wonder if either (or any?) of the bands named "x" did it as a reference to the x in xmas
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20am mariano:

We owe each other a Coke, greatbarrington! @coela: If so, then they'd be called Chi ;P
Avatar 2:21am coelacanth∅:

god damnit this is very inconvenient! can i at least smoke out back, by the propane tanks?
  2:22am greatbarrington:

i will just assume they all meant Christmas
Avatar 2:22am Hubig Pie:

It's smokers night here at the fabulous Kmart lounge
  2:23am greatbarrington:

XTC? Christmas
Avatar 2:23am coelacanth∅:

right mariano, i was just reading about that. so it's more like...if it was "shorthanded" in english terms, it'd be "cmas". (pronounced "christmas)
  2:24am kt:

Emily! We love u out here in Oakland CA. Thank you for fabulous tunes... Merry Christmas, happy holidays and all that rot. Your encyclopedic knowledge lays the algorithms to waste! xo
Avatar 2:24am coelacanth∅:

i thought every night was smokers night, and tonight was cherries jubilee night!
  2:25am greatbarrington:

corncob pipe vibes
Avatar 2:25am coelacanth∅:

...i'll never get it right.
-so when the hell is crack night?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26am mariano:

If you have to ask...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26am Emily L:

Thank you, KT! Very Merry Christmas!! :)
  2:28am greatbarrington:

now it's more like shatter night
  2:29am Bob from Toronto:

Your fill-in show has been great!
Avatar 2:29am coelacanth∅:

this is what i heard just before the ocean liner fell apart at the seams over atlantis
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30am mariano:

I'm in tatters (shadooby).
  2:30am greatbarrington:

Agreed. Hitting all the notes as usual
  2:44am greatbarrington:

Great document of the Everly Brothers morphing from a brief flirtation with psych (like everyone else) to a more country flow
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45am Emily L:

Absolutely. Love them at any speed
  2:46am greatbarrington:

Oh me too! Including a 45 at 33 rpm!
  2:53am ignatatus666:

Sorry I just tuned in
I’ll catch the show on the archives
Yuletide Greetings all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54am mariano:

Thanks so much, Emily, Merry Xmas!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55am Emily L:

MERRY XMAS TO ALL! Thank you so much for tuning in! <3
Avatar 2:59am coelacanth∅:
