Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm fred:

@Michael: it's mainly a transit strike
Avatar 3:41pm David Dichelle:

Fred: It looks like the strike may be over in a week or so, at least according to the German news.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm dutchtheo:

A nickel for the train, de Kift i could understand, the Brandals was bahasa Indonesia?
Avatar 4:04pm David Dichelle:

Hello Dutchtheo, I believe that is correct.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm doctorjazz:

Been spending my time ripping CD's and sending them to a friend (my buddy moved from a house to an apartment in Manhattan. He had worked in the music biz, and was a collector, and had about 10,000 CD's collected that wouldn't fit in smaller digs, so he ripped them to a unit that was "foolproof", "redundant", guaranteed to be secure and save his music in case of mishap. Of course, it failed, and he recovered some music, but lost much. He had donated the collection to WFMU. I'm trying to replace what I have, limited to digital, not my LP's). Anyway, ripped much Richard/Linda Thompson (separate and together), The Stones Mono box, The Microscopic Septet, a Reggae Beatles tribute box from Trojan, and Randy Newman's box collection, and Mosaic's complete Early Henry Threadgill box. Any interest in any of this, David (or any other poster out there?). My holiday present if anyone would like it.
Avatar 4:10pm Brian in UK:

Hey dutchtheo. really enjoyed Indonesian food when we were in Amsterdam, a while back, cannot find any over here, surprisingly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm Webhamster Henry:

You have a little less than 2 hours in Leipzig
Avatar 4:12pm Brian in UK:

Santa has now left the building.
Avatar 4:14pm David Dichelle:

Henry, is something happening in two hours?
Avatar 4:14pm David Dichelle:

Doctorjazz: Wow, sounds like a great project!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Michael 98145:

@DD, Xmas, of course!
Avatar 4:16pm David Dichelle:

Doctorjazz: And a terrible shame, of course, now that I read your entire post.
Avatar 4:17pm David Dichelle:

Ah yes, well Germany tends to celebrate Christmas on the 24th, so no fireworks until next week at that time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm doctorjazz:

Heading into Manhattan in a short while, take the show in the car (some Christmas for the Jews entertainment...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm dutchtheo:

I should of course have written a (silver) dime for the train. Yes BrianinUK, indonesian is one of my favs, but in the UK you have great Indian food, even better!
Avatar 4:18pm David Dichelle:

Thanks, Doctorjazz, looking forward to the ride.
Avatar 4:29pm Brian in UK:

dutchtheo, most Indian restaurants over here make a gloopy sauce then either chicken, beef or prawns are added. Really like Sri Lankan and South Indian. Masala Dosas do the job.
Avatar 4:34pm Brian in UK:

Got to hang up my stocking and prepare myself for the coming. Happy days everyone.
Avatar 4:34pm David Dichelle:

No Indonesian restaurants locally here, at least that I know of.
Avatar 4:35pm David Dichelle:

Thanks Brian, you too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm dutchtheo:

Happy days Brian

Avatar 5:15pm David Dichelle:

Virtual welcome - what do you have on board?
Avatar 5:15pm David Dichelle:

Speaking of which, we may all be vicariously in Manhattan by now. I keep imagining heading for the tunnel...
  5:17pm spodiodi:

oh it was some kind of industrial tank, i think... (have a flatbed trailer, so it's mostly big industrial sruff so far)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm Phillippe Bastille:

Hi David, doing a fly-by to wish you a Merry Christmas!
Avatar 5:19pm David Dichelle:

Thanks Phillippe - a happy and merry one to you as well!
Avatar 5:20pm David Dichelle:

spodiodi: Sounds fun - which direction are you coming from?
  5:21pm spodiodi:

Rostok -> Leipzig -> Ehrfurt -> Kassel (on my way)
  5:22pm spodiodi:

it's fun, but sure eats time
Avatar 5:23pm David Dichelle:

Eisenach is worth a look as well, if you're headed that way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm doctorjazz:

Funny you should say that, David, that's exactly what we're doing, waiting to get into the Holland Tunnel...
Avatar 5:25pm David Dichelle:

So many virtual voyages tonight - and your real one, Doctorjazz. Hope the traffic isn't too terrible.
  5:29pm spodiodi:

thanks, David... the map is pretty limited, but I'll keep an eye out. put a pic of (recent partial map picture temporarily on my profile, here wfmu.org... )
  5:30pm spodiodi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm chresti:

Bright and blustery in SoCal
Avatar 5:38pm David Dichelle:

Thanks, Spodiodi - that is quite a simulation!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm Michael 98145:

Ah, technology, and here we are on the other side of the world ... almost
Avatar 5:40pm David Dichelle:

Chresti - if I think of SoCal I think of bright!
  5:40pm spodiodi:

my pleasure, David! it's not bad for how inexpensive it is. and has a huge community
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm fred:

I think I'll call it a day soon. As for the strike, it's not just transit, the Paris opera ballet dancers are also on strike. Today they retire at 42, the government's plan is to push that back to 64. No way no how in ballet, 42 is already a big stretch (plus, they start the opera dance school at 8 or so)
Avatar 5:43pm David Dichelle:

Fred - that is crazy - they showed the ballet dancers on the news here today but didn't really mention why.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm chresti:

David, blindingly so!
Avatar 5:44pm David Dichelle:

Spodiodi: Does the program show things inside the cities as well?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm fred:

Yeah, I read that they performed part of Swan Lake in front of the old opera house
Avatar 5:47pm David Dichelle:

I guess they'll have 1-to-1 teachers and dancers in the future.
  5:48pm spodiodi:

not very much detail -- some things like bridges and some gerneric-ish buildings. the occasional castle or whatever (i doubt there's much accuracy beyond things like rivers and major roads -- and you can't really explore off the map roads.)
Avatar 5:48pm David Dichelle:

Fred: or at least one would hope that is at least an option if it happens.
  5:50pm spodiodi:

the scale overall scale is much smaller overall, for space and time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm fred:

Ha! As if increasing teacher positions (or pay) was in Macron's plans.
Avatar 5:52pm David Dichelle:

Fred: I suppose that was crazy optimism.
  5:54pm spodiodi:

i was wondering where i put my overalls
  5:55pm spodiodi:

this sounds great
Avatar 5:55pm David Dichelle:

You left your overalls under the scale of your rig.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm fred:

Mary Halvorson! I hope Doctorjazz is out of that tunnel
Avatar 5:57pm David Dichelle:

Oh yeah, I don't suppose there is WiFi in the tunnel (yet?)
  5:58pm spodiodi:

yes! that's it! :) many thanks, herr conductor
Avatar 5:59pm David Dichelle:

Virtual searches of a virtual rig from a virtual train.
  5:59pm spodiodi:

i suspect it's powering the thing
Avatar 6:00pm David Dichelle:

I believe this is all powered by no tea.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm doctorjazz:

Made it! Great car company, thanks! Happy Merry all (if anyone is interested in my earlier post, send a message through FMU).
Bye!
Avatar 6:07pm David Dichelle:

Thanks, Doctorjazz, enjoy the rest of the day!
  6:07pm spodiodi:

see ya doctorjazz!
Avatar 6:18pm David Dichelle:

Wait if I remember correctly you need both tea and no tea to power that improbability drive. Or something along those lines...
  6:20pm spodiodi:

haha - thanks for not making me have to ask - didn't make the connection
Avatar 6:21pm David Dichelle:

Yeah, time to revisit that old stuff - well it never gets old actually.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm Doug Schulkind:
