Merry Christmas Grogan clan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Kris! Merry Christmas to you and Misa!
Avatar 10:02pm Erica:

Merry Christmas Day night Testifiers! I can't believe this day's gone by so fast.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03pm Funky16Corners:

Merry Christmas Erica! It has been a long-ass day. Just got home a little while ago from Pennsylvania.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03pm WR:

OKAY, I'm ready for a Christmas purge.
Avatar 10:04pm Jeff Ash:

Saw the video of Darlene Love singing this on "The View." There is no way she is 78. I'll have what she's having.
Avatar 10:05pm Jeff Ash:

+10 for the red Solo cup. DJ Santa might be nightmare fuel, though. ;-)
Avatar 10:05pm Erica:

Darlene can still sing for sure Jeff. She was a powerhouse vocalist, for early 60s standards.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm Funky16Corners:

Miles put that together for me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm Funky16Corners:

Hey WR!
Avatar 10:06pm Jeff Ash:

Attaboy, Miles!
Avatar 10:06pm Erica:

I see you played the stereo version of Little Saint Nick. The mono version has the ding dings in the track, which I'm more familiar with.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm Funky16Corners:

@Erica - yeah, the separation is wide open on that one
Avatar 10:08pm Jeff Ash:

Agreed, Erica. We saw Darlene Love on her holiday tour 3 years ago. Tremendous then, tremendous now.
Avatar 10:10pm Erica:

Yeah I heard the stereo version on WJBR a year or so back. Sounded odd since I'm used to the mono version.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm Funky16Corners:

I hope everyone has had an excellent holiday, whichever one (or none at all) you celebrate.
Avatar 10:17pm Erica:

I can honestly say that the Phil Spector Christmas album, in my opinion is the reason so many modern Christmas songs, both original and covers sounds like they're from the 50s and 60s. "Underneath the Tree" by Kelly Clarkson is a fine example.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm ParUbi:

Merry merry, everyone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm Funky16Corners:

Oooh, I got the Booker T autobiography from Santa!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm Funky16Corners:

Hey ParUbi!
Avatar 10:19pm Jeff Ash:

Sweet on the Booker T book! Hey, that Ike and Tina tune sounded like it borrowed from "Finger Poppin'."
Avatar 10:20pm Kris Holmes:

Been playing the Booker T LP all day
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm Funky16Corners:

@Jeff - From almost exactly the same time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm Funky16Corners:

@Kris - It's a great one
Avatar 10:21pm Kris Holmes:

I also just got the autobiography, looking forward to it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm Funky16Corners:

I got that one, a big bio of Peggy Lee and the new John Hodgman book
Avatar 10:27pm Erica:

Way to take us back to the 40s Larry.
Avatar 10:28pm Erica:

By the way I saw that picture of Miles wearing the bunny suit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm Funky16Corners:

That was from our visit to the Christmas Story house in Cleveland a few years ago
Avatar 10:29pm Erica:

It seems likes everyone is talking about that Christmas Story museum this year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30pm Funky16Corners:

It was fun. We enjoyed Cleveland a lot.
Avatar 10:34pm Kris Holmes:

Love this Nathaniel Mayer, actually all Nathaniel Mayer
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm Funky16Corners:

Thanks to the Norton folks for keeping that flame lit
Avatar 10:44pm Erica:

There needs to be more Hanukkah songs. There are some but the most memorable ones are "Oh Hanukkah Oh Hanukkah" and the "Hanukkah Song" by Adam Sandler.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49pm Funky16Corners:

I kind of can't stand Adam Sandler.
Avatar 10:50pm Mod Mokka Matti:

Howdy, all! Here's hoping the remainder of the show helps ease my nasty headache that I've had all day. Christmas got postponed a bit over here...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51pm Funky16Corners:

Hey MMM!
Avatar 10:52pm Erica:

You'll shoot your eye out, kid.
Avatar 10:54pm Franco Twinkie:

Larry, I am happy to report we met the Christmas challenge - My mom is on her way back to the facility, and there were no tears! Now, have you seen my hash pipe?
Avatar 10:54pm Mod Mokka Matti:

Wish I had been around, or at least old enough to hear Jean Shepherd on the radio...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm Funky16Corners:

While I didn't hear this specific broadcast, I used to listen to Shep when I was in junior high, nights at 9PM on WOR-AM n NYC
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm Funky16Corners:

Franco! Merry (hashpipe) Christmas!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm chresti:

Hello! Dinner guests on their way home, ready for the next dimension..
Avatar 10:55pm Erica:

This was recorded when Jean was a bit younger. He Narrated the movie in 1983.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm Funky16Corners:

Chresti!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm Funky16Corners:

@Erica - This is an actual aircheck. I used to have a studio-recorded version by Shepherd on cassette that came in a set of four stories.
Avatar 11:00pm Erica:

Cool Larry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm Funky16Corners:

There's a wealth of this kind of stuff on the internet. Someone was posting airchecks as a podcast you could get in iTunes.
Avatar 11:03pm Mod Mokka Matti:

I'll have to go look for that, for sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm Funky16Corners:

The sound quality varies widely, but if you dig Shep it's worth tracking down
Avatar 11:06pm Mod Mokka Matti:

@Funky16: Ha, I just realized that according to your playlist, this recording is roughly the same vintage as me - that was my first Xmas :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm Funky16Corners:

My 10th!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm Funky16Corners:

Circa 1974-1976 I used to come home from school and listen to Bob and Ray, then Mystery Theater, then wait until 9PM for Shepherd. My Pop was already a fan from the old days, so he dug it too
Avatar 11:11pm Erica:

Sandy Andy?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm Funky16Corners:

Wha?
Avatar 11:13pm Erica:

Or is it Sandy Annie? I'm used to hearing Ralphie saying he wanted Tinker Toys.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm Funky16Corners:

I'll have to ask my Pop if it was a toy of the era. He is child of the Depression
Avatar 11:15pm Erica:

Never mind it was Sandy Andy crane toy. Never heard of it. But I found a picture of it: images.search.yahoo.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm Funky16Corners:

Man, kids were so easy to entertain back then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm Funky16Corners:

It's funny, he keeps mentioning Goldblatts Department Store. The only other place I've heard of it is Billy Boy Arnold's 'I Ain't Got You' where he talks about having a charge account at Goldblatts'
Avatar 11:18pm Erica:

Life before the internet and even television Larry. And yet kids of the 60s and 70s say they 'survivied'. Try living in the 30s and 40s. Haha!
Avatar 11:19pm Mod Mokka Matti:

Being born and raised out in the Northwest, My parents likely didn't know all that much of Jean, prior to "A Christmas Story", but they really enjoyed that film. It reminded them a lot of their own growing up in the 40s (as they were both Depression babies, too).
  11:19pm Doug Schulkind:

Oh how I wished I’d grown up listening to Jean Shepherd.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Doug!
Avatar 11:22pm Erica:

Jester & Witch: "YOU'LL SHOOT YOUR EYE OUT (x2)! Ahhahaha!"
  11:23pm Doug Schulkind:

Cool fill-in show on the stream tomorrow. Diane’s Kamikaze Fun Machine will be on at noon for Julie and Dark Night of the Soul!
  11:27pm spodiodi:

DK!
  11:28pm spodiodi:

and Julie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39pm Funky16Corners:

Ahhhhhhh...Paul Desmond....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm Funky16Corners:

Anybody still up?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48pm chresti:

I like this dimension.
Avatar 11:50pm Erica:

Yes and the show is nearly over already. :(
Avatar 11:50pm Mod Mokka Matti:

I am - just drifting away on a cloud of tranquility. It's only going on 9 PM here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm Funky16Corners:

I have to go to bed! I've been up since 6:30AM and drove around 3 hours today. I'm too old for such shenanigans!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52pm Funky16Corners:

Plus I want to get up tomorrow and play with all my Christmas loot!
Avatar 11:53pm Mod Mokka Matti:

Even being a few years younger, I am definitely feeling my limits a lot more now. Driving in itself can really sap a lot of energy.
Avatar 11:53pm Erica:

I can't wait for New Year's Eve next week. Saying goodbye to the 2010s
Avatar 11:53pm Jeff Ash:

Still here, writing a blog post. I gotta hit the rack, too, but I can hang on until the end of the show.
Avatar 11:53pm Erica:

Hello 2020.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm chresti:

That's right, you're in the pst @Mod Mokka, same as us
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm WR:

Riding along to the end. Listened closely to the Jean shepherd. Digging the groove playing now. Are you doing the wed. night show on the 1st?
Avatar 11:57pm Jeff Ash:

Thanks, Larry!
Avatar 11:57pm Erica:

Set the date: Thursday, January 2, 2020 at 3 pm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm chresti:

Thanks Larry!
Avatar 11:58pm Mod Mokka Matti:

That was a great closing set - I'll have to go back and listen to the first half that I missed. Thank you, sir!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm Funky16Corners:

Thanks Everyone! Merry Jingles to you all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm Funky16Corners:

@WR - No, Sam will be here then, I start my new slot the following day
Avatar 11:59pm Erica:

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to you and your family Larry! I will try to tune in Thursday if I can.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00am Funky16Corners:

Thanks Erica!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01am WR:

Just noticed Miles gif matches the closing tune beat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01am Funky16Corners:

He did great job!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56pm Parq:

All right, I admit it; I didn't listen to FMU on Christmas night. So I caught up with the archive for what will probably be my last FMU Christmas show of 2019. Great stuff. Loved hearing Shep, whom I dug mostly for his books rather than his radio show. Nice Jingle Bell Jazz cuts and a fine show overall. Happy New Year, F16C .
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm Funky16Corners:

Thanks Parq!
