Happy One Year Anniversary! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

That was pretty smooth ;-)
Avatar 4:01pm Martinibomb:

Thanks! Well that seemed to work well
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Were you trying to bypass the silence bump between shows?
Avatar 4:02pm Martinibomb:

yeh exactly
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

yay! smooth as silk, baby!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm ParUbi:

I didn't notice anything, which is a success story
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Interesting ... ! :-)
So you connected just slightly before you hit play?
I might try that on Friday.
Avatar 4:03pm Martinibomb:

yup and it didn't connect until you disconnected I clicked it about 30sec before
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

That's genius :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Love this track!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

You're a wee bit hot ...
Avatar 4:09pm Martinibomb:

yeh working on the level.. heh
Avatar 4:09pm Martinibomb:

Let me know how it is now? I think it's okay
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Will do - just made some more food but I'm back at my desk :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm Rich in Washington:

Happy one year, Martinibomb! You get a squish a whole cake in your highchair live on the air!
Avatar 4:11pm Martinibomb:

Thanks Rich! Wow one year can you believe it?? went by way to fast. Had a blast with all of you. Super fun times making radio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

What's been the highlight of your first year on Sheena? :-)
Or top three fave moments
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Frank Chickens! i have a record by him/them/WTF?!?!? yay! and this mashup is brilliant.
Avatar 4:14pm Martinibomb:

Going live over the the summer was pretty fantastic from pre-recording my shows.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

This is fantastic!
Avatar 4:18pm Mr Fab:

Was diggin your show on my headphones as i took my lunch break stroll, GG.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm ParUbi:

I like these people like these
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Thank you, Mr Fab! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm ParUbi:

Boosh!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Soup! Soup! A tasty soup!
Avatar 4:20pm Mr Fab:

This channel currently occupies what was the People Like Us/Radio Boredcast stream. Thanks again, Vicki!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I saw them live in 2008 - brilliant show! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mr Fab - have we done you proud here at Sheena? :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm ParUbi:

It is a marvel that she had a show on WFMU-- two things/people I love that I didn't know had anything to do with each other
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm Rich in Washington:

Here's hoping Vicki's Do or DIY has a 2020 season.
Avatar 4:23pm Mr Fab:

Another birthday boy! Tell you what, MB - today, you can play whatever you want, OK?

Oh right, we're freeform. But yeah, can't believe it's been a year already. We started with 4 shows, there are now 17 on the schedule. And you all - DJs and listeners - have done me so proud I can't even say. Really had no idea how this crazy contraption would take off. It's been amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm ParUbi:

I used to use Soleilmoon and Brainwashed to coordinate my off-mainstream music taste
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Rich in Washington:

I think this year, she had so many creative irons in the fire at once that she couldn't do her usual Summer show on WFMU.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm ParUbi:

It's nice to have this place as a resource now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm Rich in Washington:

That's cool ParUbi! I used to follow both pretty closely back in the day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Super proud to be part of the Sheena Family :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm ParUbi:

There was also this cool record store near my sister's place in Portland, right across from Powell's
Avatar 4:26pm Martinibomb:

I gotta start doing some art for sheena soon that's my new year resolution
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm ParUbi:

@Rich, yeah, I used to get their little catalog
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm Rich in Washington:

Thanks for all you do, Mr. Fab! I feel like we're part of a motley band of pirates, brigands, ne'er do wells.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm Rich in Washington:

Hmmm. I wonder what store that might've been, ParUbi. I recall there being a shop across from Powell's, but can't remember what it was. Soleilmoon used to have a shop in PDX as well. They're still in Portland, but no longer have a brick-and-mortar store.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mr Fab - you are OUR Fearless Leader! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Rich in Washington:

The recently stopped distributing Death In June merch, so I wonder how they're doing, businesswise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

YAY for Sheena's Jungle Room!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm ParUbi:

I think it was called the Ozone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

oh, i remember that store!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm Rich in Washington:

Oh yeah. The Ozone! The dude that ran that had a radio show on KBOO, too. Then the Ozone moved to Burnside and shortly thereafter closed up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm ParUbi:

It was great! Always had obscure things in stock. Hafler Trio, etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm Rich in the Lower Columbia Basin:

Hi Granny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm Rich in the Lower Columbia Basin:

yeah, the Ozone was great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Sorry I went quiet - just had a coughing fit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Rich in the Lower Columbia Basin:

Oh wow! This is great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm ParUbi:

I saw that Soleilmoon was listed as a hate group briefly for distributing DiJ
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Fantastic playlist today, MB!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm Rich in the Lower Columbia Basin:

Yeah. It was an unfortunate situation but I think they ultimately did the right thing.
Avatar 4:38pm Martinibomb:

Thanks Gerogy
Avatar 4:38pm solo mon:

Hi all! happy anniversary MB!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Rich in the Lower Columbia Basin:

I sort of dig some of DiJ's earlier stuff, but find Douglas P's nazi fetish and repeated dismissal/defenses of it untenable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm Rich Gump:

That's all I have to say about that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Mort Garson!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm ParUbi:

@Rich. I think so too. Knowing them from the other side, I was baffled and shocked that anyone would think that. But Douglas P has certainly been an irresponsible @#$% for playing around with that imagery
Avatar 4:40pm solo mon:

Spent a lot of money at the Ozone and it was called the ooze before that when it was in NW portland
Avatar 4:41pm solo mon:

I love MORT
Avatar 4:41pm Martinibomb:

hey Sol! Hope you're doing good
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm ParUbi:

This was in my 20s, when I had credit and no financial sense. Bring on those $20 import CDs!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm ParUbi:

Never quite took the plunge for that Zoviet France, Popular Soviet Songs and Youth Music felt release though. They had it under a glass case.
Avatar 4:43pm solo mon:

Hey hey doing just fine, just working on my film :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Rich Gump:

Yeah, The Ooze. Probably one of the last great Portland stores. I also really dug Singles Going Steady and Djangos.
Avatar 4:43pm solo mon:

OH now I remember this Song!
Avatar 4:44pm Martinibomb:

THis Song by Larue is Solo Mon's track
Avatar 4:44pm Martinibomb:

oops! my fault bad cue live aaaarg
Avatar 4:45pm solo mon:

hahaha
Avatar 4:45pm solo mon:

La Rue roc block!
Avatar 4:45pm Martinibomb:

oh well you all get two songs from LaRue!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm gonna hang on til the end of this track and then go get some steam and some medicine - my throat's seized up again. Ugh.
The music today is outstanding tho - and once again, happy one year! Here's to many, many more! :-)
Avatar 4:47pm Mr Fab:

LaRue, named after the John Candy character, i assume?
Avatar 4:47pm Martinibomb:

Yep! Thanks GG
Avatar 4:49pm solo mon:

@mr Fab - we named our band Larue after Divines mother in the movie polyester
4:49pm Dave In St Albans UK:

Hi MB and Sheena people. Happy times for you all and lucky old me became a listener and big fan of Sheena this year after saturating my listening days with tgeain WFMU stream. I am celebrating too :-)
Avatar 4:50pm solo mon:

Martinibomb played instruments on a few La Rue tracks!
Avatar 4:52pm Mr Fab:

Ah, Mrs Fishpaw?

Thanks, Dave, very happy to hear that. And glad you can stay up late just for li'l ol' us.
Avatar 4:57pm Martinibomb:

Hey Dave! Thanks for listeing.. if a tree falls in the woods. Well a u know what I mean!
Avatar 4:58pm Martinibomb:

The sound of one hand clapping is two turntables and a microphone.
Avatar 5:03pm solo mon:

LOL yes francine's mother! Obscure AF but her characters name is La Rue
Avatar 5:08pm Martinibomb:

Any requests today? I'm usually flying by the seat of my pants picking songs lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm Call me Richmael:

Have ye any whaling songs?
Avatar 5:11pm solo mon:

LOL rich
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Got any Fred Lane?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm Rich in (_______):

I'm sure diggin' the new Fred Lane record. It's tons o' fun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Rich in (_______): yeah! it seems a little slower and calmer than the other stuff, if that makes sense.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm Rich in (_______):

Oh, here you go!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm Stanley:

I've crossed over from the other side again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

It just feels different, like another side of FL. Hey, yeah! I'll never forget the one that cut me!!!!
Avatar 5:16pm Mr Fab:

Ooh, good call. Fred Lane. Gotta get that new album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Now if only there were a Fred Lane whaling song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

buuurrrrninggg!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

music to wave your charred antenna to
Avatar 5:19pm Mr Fab:

who WOULD be a believable singer of whaling songs? Shane McGowan, maybe? He could pass for an old salt. or Tom Waits.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm Rich in Warshington:

Baby Gramps
Avatar 5:20pm solo mon:

I think Celine Dion should do a whaling album
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

ok, i'm feeling this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm Rich in Warshington:

Kent Morrill for sure.
Avatar 5:22pm solo mon:

JESYS this is good
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm Rich in Warshington:

Is this you mixing, MB?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Joanna Newsom did a great song from the POV of a whale who somehow ends up in a human form
Avatar 5:25pm Martinibomb:

@rich yeh can't u tell from the mistakes lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Rich in Warshington:

There are no mistake in radio. Just listener misapprehensions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

yeah!
Avatar 5:30pm Mr Fab:

"Where's the Jungle Room?" Ha, gotta sample that if I make more i.d.s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

If you have to ask where is the Jungle Room, you're already IN IT!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

ok, my brain just broke
Avatar 5:33pm Martinibomb:

Hopefully we can resuscitate it!
Avatar 5:34pm Martinibomb:

Nuthin' a lil duct tape can't fix
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Rich in Warshington:

Tonight! Another mind-breaking episode of Medium Cool, with DJ Martinibomb!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

i dunno… a disco "Dolly House of the Rising Sun" is one of the signs of the end times!
Avatar 5:37pm solo mon:

we are living in our last days
Avatar 5:38pm solo mon:

House of the raisin in the sun
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm Rich in Warshington:

Today is the first day of the end of your life!
Avatar 5:39pm solo mon:

Im trying to start a cult... any suggestions?
Avatar 5:39pm Martinibomb:

House of the shriveled grape
Avatar 5:41pm Martinibomb:

IF you start a cult it should have crochet outfits
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Rich in Warshington:

The best cults have house bands.
Avatar 5:42pm Martinibomb:

And it should be an opensource cult where people can freely edit and distribute the *code*. hahah
Avatar 5:44pm Martinibomb:

Babies love stray dogs?
Avatar 5:44pm Mr Fab:

Every cult is headed by a man who preaches "free love." They always seem to get this harem of female devotees. Which is probably why they started their cult in the first place.
Avatar 5:45pm solo mon:

Im thinking the source family meets amway
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm Rich in Warshington:

The best cults also have some kind of business angle. Look at Scientology and Apple.
Avatar 5:46pm solo mon:

Im really into the Unarians
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm Rich in Warshington:

Whatever happened to the cult that was selling candles and cutout records out of vans in the 70s? Maybe that wasn't a cult, but they seemed like it.
Avatar 5:47pm solo mon:

Hey MB do you have bullfrog by bobby darin?
Avatar 5:48pm solo mon:

I wanna be in a scented candle cult!
Avatar 5:51pm solo mon:

ahahah i looove this song! thank youuu
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm Rich in Warshington:

I remember walking around outside of a mall as a preteen and some van pulled up with a young guy and girl and they asked if I wanted to buy a groovy, psychedelic looking candle. I said no. They then asked if I liked music and handed me a handful of new records with cutouts on them. One of them was Bluejeans & Moonbeams by Captain Beefheart. They asked how much money I had, which was about a buck fifty. The girl grabbed the records back from me and the van peeled out and disappeared.
Avatar 5:51pm solo mon:

@rich i think that was just my parents
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm Rich in Warshington:

But a week or so later, my older brother came home with one of the candles and a small stack of new cutout records, one of which was the Beefheart record. I thought it stunk, cuz I was like eleven.
Avatar 5:54pm MrCrispy:

Looks like I've been missing a great show but I got here just in time for Gal Costa!
Avatar 5:54pm Mr Fab:

Nah, you were right. Beefheart is a god to me, but "Bluejeans & Moonbeams" was pretty wack.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

WHOOT!!!
Avatar 5:56pm MrCrispy:

Happy anniversary Bomber!
Avatar 5:57pm Martinibomb:

Thanks MrCrispy! Whaaawhoooo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm Rich in Warshington:

I distinctly remember the other records, a Bill Wyman solo record, a Dr. John record, just cutout fodder. I think that's when I learned that cutout records were a thing. I didn't really get into buying my own records for a few years.
Avatar 5:58pm MrCrispy:

Can you play something from the Bullitt soundtrack? I just watched the commentary while working and am in that kinda Lalo Schiffrin zone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:02pm Linda Lee:

monkey grip, monkey grip. hi Rich! hi everyone!
Avatar 6:02pm solo mon:

Ive been listening to Lalo's Marquis de sade concept album alot lately!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm Rich in Warshington:

Oh yeah! We done been Schifrin'd!
Avatar 6:03pm solo mon:

hi Linda lee!
Avatar 6:03pm MrCrispy:

Sooooo good! FLUTE!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm Rich in Warshington:

That's it, LL! It was Monkey Grip. I remember it being unmemorable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm Linda Lee:

hi! I'm right on time for this Labi Siffre. just what's needed at this point in time.
thanks, MB!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm Linda Lee:

it was shite.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm Linda Lee:

the kind of record that reminds you of the joke about the dog's balls.
Avatar 6:04pm MrCrispy:

@solo mon I will be checking out that Marquis De Sade immediately after - thanks for the heads up!
Avatar 6:06pm solo mon:

AW HERE IT IS thanks MB
Avatar 6:06pm Martinibomb:

Avatar 6:06pm Martinibomb:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm Linda Lee:

mine too baby. :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm Rich in Warshington:

I was just talking with my wife about that there are people making these 10 hour long youtube videos of the Enterprise bridge ambient background sounds, the Next Generation bridge sounds, etc. so they can sleep to them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm Linda Lee:

wow. commitment!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm Linda Lee:

this is nice though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm Linda Lee:

not 50 minutes worth of nice, however. good call MB!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

oooh, sleeping to the bridge sounds. i usually listen to wikipedia for a soothing slumber (or shrunken planet)
Avatar 6:15pm Mr Fab:

GeorgyGirl just played a mess o' KLF recently. But she did not play a certain fluffy little song that samples this Reich recording.
Avatar 6:16pm solo mon:

can you play "cat casanova" by Reveberi ???
Avatar 6:19pm solo mon:

Oh i just realised who ya were granny spicy tuna!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm Rich in Warshington:

I used to like to sleep to the streaming channel Sleepbot, but for some reason, they'd have ambient artists who'd suddenly put some super disturbing sound and/or repetitive noises on. I still like Soma FM's Drone Zone. I sometimes like sleeping to Over The Edge episodes if I can't seem to disengage my brain. It sort of nullifies my logic circuit so I can drift off to sleep.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm Linda Lee:

I liked drone zone for a while. haven't been there lately.
Avatar 6:26pm solo mon:

Thanks MB goes great w your conspiracy interviews
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm Linda Lee:

I liked done zone for ambient sounds for daytime, though. not sleeping.
Avatar 6:29pm Martinibomb:

I have lived the conspiracy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm Rich in Warshington:

I think I burned out on DZ for a while and then discovered Sleepbot, which is supposedly purpose-built for sleeping. Which is weird, because so much of the ambient tracks on there are just really unsettling. I just got kind of tired of waking up in the middle of the night thinking a pipe had burst, or giant armadillos are chewing my roof tiles off or something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm Linda Lee:

that sounds aggravating, really.
nothing needed for sleep here, especially. i live in the country. dead quiet aside of ambient natural sounds. very nice. if needed I can take a little red-vein kratom. done.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm Rich in Warshington:

I like to drift off to really bad 70s UFO documentaries. I am not sure why.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm Linda Lee:

hahaha! boring narration?
Avatar 6:32pm Martinibomb:

^same here
Avatar 6:33pm solo mon:

Avatar 6:37pm Mr Fab:

Well, The Orb and KLF were side-projects of each other. (Don't remember who came first)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm Rich in Warshington:

I want to drift off to That's Incredible, Real People, Ripley's Believe It Or Not.
Avatar 6:38pm solo mon:

"what were the skies like when you were young..."
Avatar 6:39pm solo mon:

@rich you just named my 3 fav tv shows when i was 8 years old!
Avatar 6:41pm Martinibomb:

@Fab about Orb/KLF I wasn't sure if maybe KLF had sampled it? I know Orb did for sure which yeh is his other project but it's such a great sample I wondered if it had been used before that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:45pm Rich in Warshington:

Somewhere I have the actual audio from which the sample comes from 'what was the sky like when you were young'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46pm Rich in Warshington:

The Orb was KLF's Jim Cauty and Alex Patterson. It was post KLF, maybe also existing alongside KLF.
Avatar 6:46pm Mr Fab:

Don't know, but those guys operated under so many names, i was never sure who did what: KLF, Orb, Timelords, JAMMS, probly more...
Avatar 6:47pm huomenta:

a dronezone sleeper here! but yes, sudden changes in volume, surprisingly unsettling atmospheres etc. can be rather counterproductive. aphex twin's th1 is a good example of this: sometimes you will asleep with it, sometimes you will stay up and worry everything.
Avatar 6:48pm solo mon:

its a great interview w ricki lee jones, i have it some where too!
Avatar 6:50pm solo mon:

i really love sleeping to this album "balsams" by chuck johnson. its like really spacey slide guitars. also, anything by bing and ruth, or stars of the lid
Avatar 6:51pm Mr Fab:

You gotta stop drinking, Thomas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm Rich in Warshington:

huomenta: It's weird what I'll sleep to. I sort of need a barrage of noise around me, probably from when we had lots of kids living in the house, people with different sleep patterns, etc.
Avatar 6:52pm solo mon:
