Harrily, harrily. Good afternoon.

  3:03pm Listener Robert:

At least it was just his request, not the record he but of himself, nor a composition he demanded you perform. You're getting off cheaply if these are the only nuts you have to deal with.
Avatar 3:06pm Listening Out There:

I might be insecure, but at least I have my blanket.
  3:06pm Beetlemuse:

Hey kids!
  3:07pm Laura L:

Google Chrome reveals Irwin's insecurity complex.
Avatar 3:08pm βrian:

What? Irwin is using a surveillance browser?
  3:10pm BH:

don't gotta worry about a surveillance browser if your internet history confuses the robots keeping tabs on you
Avatar 3:13pm Hubig Pie:

The secure playlist is nowhere near as interesting
  3:17pm Listener Robert:

As to hostages, you're all expendable except for Kelly Jones. Not coincidentally, she's also the only one who can tell you how much ransom each is worth.
Avatar 3:18pm Irwin:

You obviously know Kelly. She has the goods on us all.

Avatar 3:21pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Sadly, insecure playlists are on their way out (step 1 is the Dynamic Playlists 202020 debuting today at 5pm...)
Needs lots of testers! Mobile browsers, different OS's...thanks for helping! Will launch widely on WFMU once it's debugged here. wfmu.org... )

I would like to think i could get 3hrs of programming if i took the Assistant General Manager's dog hostage, hypothetically speaking.
Avatar 3:25pm ReverendJon:

This is my first time tuning in and damn! I'm really bouncing around in my Aeron!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm MD:

Is this Lola from 5,700 Years ago?
You know...the gum chewer...
Avatar 3:26pm βrian:

I'm a member of the Aeron Confederacy, as well.

did something happen to the signal or is it just me?
  3:33pm Manana:

Good tune, a bit lacking without Ms. Grogan.

She's here.

Howdy, Irwin. Man...I just got in a few minutes ago, and it there is a whiteout going on outside...this Nolan Potter's Nightmare Band is the perfect complement to the snow squall!

The NWS offers the following statement on severe weather -

"Severe weather is bad, try to avoid it"

  3:53pm Beetlemuse:

I HATE Bad weather! Stay safe up there! 50deg. F down here in GA :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm Mr. Pumpy:

NOAA has issued the following severe, weather statement: No more weather - weather sucks - weather should go to hell and die!!!

Avatar 4:06pm Listening Out There:

Well, this is a fun program today. If I had a choice of listening to this or listening to impeachment arguments, I'd be...I'd be...
  4:07pm BH:

I like the idea that "It's 40 degrees and I feel like I'm dying" can make sense in different ways in celsius and fahrenheit
Avatar 4:07pm ReverendJon:

@BH and Kelvin!
  4:08pm Manana:

Courtney Barnett for president. Of the world.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm mariano:

Oh wow, Duster! If it's the same duster, a guy named Mouse who was their drummer (at least for a while), almost wound up in the "band" I was in... I think he chose wisely, lol.
Avatar 4:10pm Irwin:

Same Duster. I think years between albums. Correct me if.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm Mr. Pumpy:

It's zero Kelvin and I'm absolutely frozen!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm mariano:

I'm actually not that familiar with Duster's music, I just knew them as a band that had their act together, unlike ours. But it checks out: Bay Area, mid-90s. Don't even know if the guy stayed with them for long.
  4:19pm johnzo:

lololol you funny braa... literally laughing out loud grinning like an idiot biking down the street
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm Phillippe Bastille:

  4:44pm the Canterbury forest monk:

Oh David, what were you thinking?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Mike East:

Somebody randomly gave me this Labyrinth vinyl single a few years ago. I think the b side is an extended remix
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm mariano:

Hey, that was the most epic bulge in cinema history Bowie had in Labyrinth!
  4:46pm Beetlemuse:

agreed! @Mariano
  4:48pm BH:

I guess it'd sound less committal if the National Weather Service issued a Severe Weather Acknowledgement.

"Yeah, it's snowing, what do you expect us to do about it?"
Avatar 4:50pm Listening Out There:

Wowzers. Sounds like a heckuva great box set, t'me...
Avatar 4:54pm mb:

"Severe Weather Observation"

I thought you said '60 CD Box Set" at first which is possible for all the studio hours FZ put in. Also probable that fans would buy that.
Avatar 4:55pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Rat half century
...hold up purty well don't it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm Mr. Pumpy:

Killer version of this Zappa tune. Perhaps my favorite Zappa album. That's a hard thing to pinpoint, but it's been a go-to for decades.
Avatar 4:56pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Crap man - loogit this playlist I miss...
Avatar 4:58pm Irwin:

Pumpy: Agreed. I kinda lost interest in Frank's music after Rats. Always admired him as a person, bandleader, thinker, commentator. He's a singular artist.
Avatar 5:00pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Word. GittarPlayer even...
Avatar 5:00pm Listening Out There:

Mft. suggested retail for the box set is only $125. Only...
Avatar 5:01pm Irwin:

The digital is under $50. Then you can delete all the "Willie the Pimp" outtakes.
Avatar 5:03pm Listening Out There:

Can only imagine what The Captain sounds like in outtakes...probably not pretty...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm Yes:

can someone please recommend me a couple beefheart albums besides trout mask?
Avatar 5:09pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Feb. 09, 1940 - Jan. 26, 1941

Avatar 5:19pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Mr. Pumpy:

Chris Lightcap...nice! I was lucky to see him perform with Nels Cline in an apartment on the upper east side last year. It was a great experience...replete with a view of the GWB right behind them. I've chatted with Nels before, but it was a whole new level just chilling over a potluck and talking about Jim Hall and such! Chris is a quite afable bloke as well. Glad you played this.
  5:21pm fredr:

Willie the Pimp every Saturday night 8pm. Johns show was great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Little Danny:

Great choice of a Manic Pop Thrill track. It's held up better than a lotta '80s college rock
  5:26pm jan:

Irwin: Just back from walking in the snow squall while listening to the program. Your mention of Hot Rats 50th struck a melancholy chord- I was 17 when I bought the album. As much as I appreciated the cover art from the Mothers of invention and some of those zany lyrics, Hot Rats was much more satisfying musically. I'd have to look at the remote stack of LPs- I don't think I kept that record, but I wouldn't mind at all hearing it again.
Avatar 5:28pm Irwin:

Jan: agreed. Hot Rats stands out. I'm sure there's other great instrumental tracks in the Zappa catalog, but the arrangements on Rats are stunning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm coelacanth∅:

hmm Irwin getting back to your rootlets?
Avatar 5:38pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Nick Cave observed people miss how funny Cohen is.
Avatar 5:39pm Irwin:

Cohen is VERY funny, in a dry way. BTW, he didn't write this song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm Handy Haversack:

Came home to "Passing Through," which feels right.
  5:41pm mr jessop crane:

Avatar 5:42pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Ha. Kinda thinking Passing was more typical Folkie than his usual...
Avatar 5:42pm huomenta:

My liver does not appreciate the fact I have become more responsive to songs like that. Passing through being too apt an example.
Avatar 5:44pm huomenta:

Thing is, I did not like folk music as much until my drinking increased...
  5:44pm mr jessop crane:

This Little Wis ealbum is called Want It All, not Devil Off My Back, I think.
Avatar 5:46pm Irwin:

Jessop: I got the digital single, and you might be right about the album title.
  5:47pm Laura L:

Thanks, Irwin!
Avatar 5:47pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I gravitate towards grim stuff - was actually afraid of discovering Nick Drake - staring into abyss & all that...I'm Grunge age group &tc. ...
Avatar 5:48pm huomenta:

btw, ta for the Courtney Barnett, her Helsinki gig this summer was very good.
Avatar 5:48pm ironybread:

Weeeeeeeeellll then Revolution Rabbit you won't want to miss "All Bitches Die" by Lingua Ignota.
Avatar 5:49pm Irwin:

Avatar 5:50pm huomenta:

Nick Drake is rather soothing stuff even at the most grim moments; but then again this how I feel about Joy Division
Avatar 5:50pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

  5:50pm Laura L:

That is astonishing. Got to get him to come back another time in the next 10 years!
Avatar 5:53pm huomenta:

joined the party rather late (nicole dollanganger was the first track for me) but thanks all the same for another enjoyable selection Irwin!
Avatar 5:54pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Echols of Love Zappa/Beefheart anecdote :
Avatar 5:54pm βrian:

Checking back in, as dinner for the family is safely underway.

Based on the first part of this program, I think I'll be dipping into the archive, which I *never* do.
(I mean, who has the time?)

But really, I think I aged my Aeron by 3 years in the first hour of this show.
  5:55pm spodiodi:

thanks Irwin
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Listener Howard & the Cats:

My god, I think that Innocence Mission song is my favorite song of the year. That's something I never thought I would ever hear myself say.
Avatar 5:56pm huomenta:

a good reminder I should get to know Kleenex/Liliput better. A cool track!
Avatar 5:56pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Bonfires track crazy good - & spare. No idea of that talent if not here.
  5:58pm mr jessop crane:
