With billows and blasts from choirs and orchesters
Buskers and talkers
Big bands and squawkers,
the Stork Club has retained its qualities of decaying elegance and dwindling significance since the late 1950s.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm Uncle Michael:

This set won't be complete without some Kinks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Uncle Michael:

You're doing a beautiful thing, Stork.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm fred:

Some Monty Python could be appropriate too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm fleep:

I taught an entire summer camp how to sing the Hippopotamus song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm fleep:

And greetings you classy people and DJ Grand Entry
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I Must Be Saved remind me of Learning the Game by. Buddy Holly....small world I wonder...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

and poof! thou hast summoned the Granny! Hi, Stork and all!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

i need to know the hippopotamus song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm fleep:

As a remark, it was a complete non sequitur, and I blame Dr. Norm's infused cookies. The hippo song is on YouTube, it's from their first album, At The Drop of A Hat
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm fred:

I'll be missing The Ex today (they're playing in Montreuil, but I'm not walking to there and back). But I'm glad I got to see them with Getatchew Mekuria a few times
Avatar 1:11pm Wolfgang:

PLESSE STAND BY!! WILL TRY TO GET BACK!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

ah, Dr. Norm strikes again!
Avatar 1:12pm northguineahills:

went to a fabulous gay xmas party last night (it was labelled as such). It was the John Waters xmas party I always wanted (kitsch and all), and told the host such, and was impressed I was a huge fan of Waters. I noticed that outside NYC, the gay scenes in smaller cities are way much more insular. My bros (who were friends of the host), myself and a friend were the only straight lads there. It was the closest to feeling like I was at a NYC party I've been since I left NYC.

STREAMING COMPUTER IS OFF-LINE - TRYING TO FIX! PLEASE HANG IN THERE!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Jeff Golick:

Might be back?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm Jeff Golick:

What are you playing?
Avatar 1:15pm Wolfgang:

CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHERE IT WENT OUT? NO JEFF NOT BACK YET
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm Jeff Golick:

Went out during Bratsch...
  1:16pm Dean:

The national professional organization to which I belong has an annual conference which I attend every other year or so. Keynote addresses are predictably bland and stupid. But two years ago the keynote was John Waters, and he was worth the price of admission. The newly elected president of the organization won my vote when she announced that her hero is Iggy Pop. Here's hoping Iggy is the next keynote...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm fred:

You're back!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

hello! we receive you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

please hold…
Avatar 1:21pm monkeyz:

one of these monkeys just leaving a note: thank you for the beautiful music :) and we can here you!
Avatar 1:22pm northguineahills:

@Dean: I might need to change professions. Although, I went to an academic conference and they had a sessions on the geography of music in America, and got some good stories on the early flaming lips and woody Guthrie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm fred:

The silver lining is that the stream played Jun Togawa while you were out
1:23pm Dave in St Albans UK:

Enjoying tonight's show. Excellent despite the tech issues.
Avatar 1:24pm northguineahills:

Thanks, Stork and friends, I'm off to work!chirrrups!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm Doug Schulkind:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm fred:

Is listener monkeyz in England? There's another one who's in Germany
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Yay Gittar Bop.
1:48pm Dave in St Albans UK:

Got a beer and listening to the great music and trying to forget our general election in the UK earlier this week. We have a buffoon in charge and we have now lost any chance of staying in the EU! I may need more beer.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm fleep:

Our buffoon outbuffoons your buffooon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm WR:

1:57pm Dave in St Albans UK:

@fleep I can't argue with that. The guys "in charge" worry me. Another beer please....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm fred:

@Dave in St Albans: And we in the EU lose having you in. I may need to stockpile whisky before the tariffs kick in
2:04pm Dave in St Albans UK:

@fred I can only apologise for this outcome. If I was in charge I would legislate for Whisky on tap in every home.... Next to the cold water tap!
Avatar 2:05pm holland oats:

mcgasko?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm fred:

@Dave: Disappointment is on tap instead. French health care was supposed to get more open to "natural" medicine, and it turned out stuff like acupuncture and sophrology will get reimbursed some. But Guinness is still not recognized as a legitimate medicine
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Doug Schulkind:

"A great obligation to the beat."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Whut a fun track.
Avatar 2:16pm Wolfgang:

It really is a blast, Rev. I've been waiting for his b-day to play it. They don't make em this over-the-top no more!
Avatar 2:17pm Wolfgang:

Playlist note: I will add some lineup infos after the shew tonite, if ya wanna check back. Also, check out the archive - the make up show - from Monday 12/9. 3 fuck-up-free hours!
Avatar 2:21pm coelacanth∅:

damnit. diggin' the tunes but i can't remember the password to get in to the club.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Gaylord Fields was saying Jazz is like wine - but gets better as you get older. I noted I had an older sibling schooled me early on that African Americans had done most everything earlier & I should pay attention! This track reminds me there was Jazz in cartoons & movies too....20th Century jive...Stan Freberg's Three Little Pigs for example was a standout....
Avatar 2:23pm coelacanth∅:

(guess i'll just stand here and listen outside this boarded-up window)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm WR:

For a brief time I was a uni music student. The dept. hero was Stan Kenton. I was not a fan. Look back not in anger.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm fred:

@coel: The actual door is in the alley to the left. Come right in, it's wide open
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Honestly - not being informed ya unnerstan - associate the name with talk of the honky squares of Jazz. But love that track. Third Stream maybe ??
Avatar 2:28pm coelacanth∅:

hey thanks fred!
dumb me i would've found it if i'd followed the smell of reefer.
Avatar 2:29pm Jeff Moore:

That fellow was a right bounder!
Avatar 2:33pm coelacanth∅:

WR eh...Kenton wasn't always great. but he IS great.
i think i liked him at first, when i was little; then decided he was too mainstream or something; then one day realised he was Great, regardless of how popular he was with a ("white") "mainstream" audience.
so it took a few years.
Avatar 2:33pm Jeff Moore:

(the subject of And the Tears Flowed Like Wine, not Stan Kenton. I have no information pro or con about any potential bounderiness associated with Mr. Kenton)
Avatar 2:38pm coelacanth∅:

before i knew who Stan Kenton was i was heavily into Chuck Berry and a line in a song ("go go go"?) was "now they tell me Stan Kenton's cuttin' maybelline" which was to be taken as a dis - like shit they're ruining my song by playing it jazz style.
so i disliked him before i'd ever heard him!
Avatar 2:39pm coelacanth∅:

(but a few years later i heard him and liked him)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm fred:

We're nowhere near the end, you promised overtime!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm Doug Schulkind:

Bonus Stork!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm fred:

Who said I had to be honest to get more of a good thing?
Avatar 3:19pm coelacanth∅:

ohhh, i thought he promised *ovaltine*.
this is much better.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm fred:

@coel: There was something called ovomaltine that I liked as a child (a few eons ago). Might be the same thing
Avatar 3:25pm Wolfgang:

mmmmm, that's good ovaltine!
Avatar 3:28pm coelacanth∅:

i liked ovaltine as a child because it was sweet and we seldom had sweets in the house, but i tried it once when i was older and it's pretty weird! not chocolate; just vaguely chocolate-ish.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm fred:

Thanks Stork, feel free to go on as long as you want, there's no show on this stream for a day or so
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm Doug Schulkind:

Keep your ears to the ground as the Drummer Stream is about to add a new program. More news coming quite soon...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm fred:

@Doug: Will it be another Dave?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Doug Schulkind:

@fred
You can never have enough Daves. But, no.
3:35pm Jeff g. via app, having arrived in Poughkeepsie:

Thanks for the wonderful soundtrack to my drive, @Stork! Catch you later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Dave in Vermont:

looking for more Daves here?
Avatar 3:42pm Wolfgang:

Wow, that's a long haul, Jeff! Glad you were entertained.
Avatar 3:44pm Wolfgang:

Daves in all fifty states, please.
Avatar 3:53pm coelacanth∅:

Thanks Stork
Avatar 5:02pm Wolfgang:

Thanks, coelacanthh∅, thanks everybody. It was a pure pleasure. I wish I could go even longer.
Avatar 5:59pm Wolfgang:

Old Wolfgang Fingelheimer Stork here - replying as ever after everyone's gone home:

Thanks to al - und herzliche Grüße aus Münster an Guido in Köln!! Dave in the UK! And the Vermontian Dave. And hey, UK: fleep is right - our asshole is way bigger than yours. We're number one in "Asshole," so don't mess!!
