Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08pm Scraps:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm doctorjazz:

Sorry to hear that, Scraps. Cold and flu season has hit (hopefully nothing worse than that.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm Bronwyn Bishop:

hi WR, doctorjazz and scraps!!! hope you feel better soon scraps!!!
  7:13pm CC:

Well... I can only pray that the other $0.41 is spent on something responsible like social programs that help the poor and disadvantaged...(:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm sugarwolf the doughnut witch:

Nooo, Feed the Birds should not be a power ballad!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm Webhamster Henry:

Hi Bronwyn! Tom Kines put out a book of Shakespeare tunes on Oak Publications - the books closely associated with Folkways.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm Scraps:

worse, lung ick, but i’ll make it by christmas (i hope)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm Webhamster Henry:

Also Folkways has Brecht's A MAN'S A MAN by Bentley and Joe Raposo !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm Webhamster Henry:

ELEPHANT CALF was like a play within a play / intermission piece from A MAN'S A MAN
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21pm Webhamster Henry:

Joe Raposo of Sesame Street fame.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm Scraps:

59 cents reminds me of “7 1/2 cents” from The Pajama Game, another labor musical
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm diciassette:

Hello guys! I am avoiding public transportation today for obvious reasons.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm diciassette:

"working" from home!
  7:26pm Doug Schulkind:

Hey hey, Bronwyn!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm Bronwyn Bishop:

hi webhamster henry!! thanks for the info, i have never heard of oak publications and im excited to check out some folkways related books!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm Bronwyn Bishop:

hi diciassette :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm Bronwyn Bishop:

hey doug :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm diciassette:

Loved the Folkways selections! I am really a fan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm Bronwyn Bishop:

yay!! my favorite label <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm WR:

One comment (while waiting for computer to reboot) the music is much lower than the stream was and when you were talking on the break. When you were talking the level was good. Now had to bring volume from 4 to 7 to hear the music at a moderate level.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm diciassette:

Don't turn it up TOO much! I don't mind adjusting my volume if there's no distortion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm Scraps:

true
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm Bronwyn Bishop:

better?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm Scraps:

(to wr) (i guess to diciassette also)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm Webhamster Henry:

Lots of Oaks in the Archive: openlibrary.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm doctorjazz:

That's just really weird (thus Marion Williams)...she does have an amazing voice, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm WR:

A little bit louder, yes. Not big deal, I just want to be able to crank it up to window rattling level when finished with work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm WR:

That's funny, Ben Folds was definitely involved. Amanda Palmer is streaming her concert live from London tomorrow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm Scraps:

Sounds like Selma Diamond in a musical
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41pm diciassette:

I wonder if Ellen Foley was/is in musicals..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm Bronwyn Bishop:

@WHenry: all those books look just like folkways album covers, i love them!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm Bronwyn Bishop:

@diciassette: ellen foley was the original witch in into the woods in the out of town tryouts but then bernadette peters (whom we are about to hear from) replaced her! but not before betty buckley also took a crack at it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45pm Webhamster Henry:

My she was yare.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50pm Scraps:

She was in Me and My Girl.

diciassette, did you mention Foley because I mentioned Diamond? They were both in Night Court
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm diciassette:

Well, yes of course!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm Scraps:

Well okay then!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm Scraps:

Apparently Diamond was in Follies
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm Scraps:

Working! It’s very up and down, but “Millwork” and “It’s an Art” are great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:04pm Scraps:

Working was based on a Studs Turkel non-fiction book.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:11pm Bronwyn Bishop:

it is! for some reason there was a copy of that book in my homeroom in 9th grade and i used to open it to a random page sometimes and i ALWAYS opened to the prostitute without fail
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm Scraps:

!
  8:15pm WebHamster Henry:

Working: a friend of mine was the ASM.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:15pm Scraps:

k, i have to lie down & listen. cheers
Avatar 8:17pm northguineahills:

daggnabbit, I missed a Folkways Rec I've never seen before!

(the volume level is somewhat low, FYI)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21pm Bronwyn Bishop:

better?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22pm Bronwyn Bishop:

@WHenry: that is so cool!! they must have some great stories!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22pm Bronwyn Bishop:

cheers scraps!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22pm Bronwyn Bishop:

also hi ngh!!!
Avatar 8:31pm northguineahills:

a wee big better (I was comparing it to the main stream).
Avatar 8:34pm northguineahills:

I love this show, as even though I'm not into most musical's music since I was been born (w/ some very notable exceptions), I often absent mindedly whistle old show tunes, and you've shown me some recent ones that cook it right, and introduce me some old ones I was ignorant.
Avatar 8:35pm northguineahills:

que chinga…. a wee bit better (weird typo)
Avatar 8:36pm northguineahills:

ack, musicals, not musical's ( no can spell or grammar)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:37pm Bronwyn Bishop:

aw thanks ngh!!! so glad you're enjoying the show, i do like to showcase interesting modern musicals since sometimes it can seem like they're not making them anymore if you go by the most popular ones
Avatar 8:39pm northguineahills:

My normie bros, are infatuated w/ Hamilton, and play the sndtrk all the time. It's rather decent. I'm just happy they're listening to music (they rarely do so), and learning history.
Avatar 8:46pm northguineahills:

ok, this one is adorbs....
Avatar 8:47pm northguineahills:

(Tinderella)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm diciassette:

tanks Bronwyn!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm Bronwyn Bishop:

oh no we're going into OT
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm Bronwyn Bishop:

i <3 the drummer stream bc i can do that (and other reasons)
Avatar 9:02pm northguineahills:

I believe Mary played this almost two months ago. Oh, and thanks! will have my ear open until you decide you don't have to go until Mayuko at noon!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03pm Bronwyn Bishop:

haha i would love that but i might run out of showtunes
