"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

Hey TomDash, what happened to ZoeB's show, if thats something you can discuss?

Just saw Moor Mother last night, with Roscoe Mitchell at the Art Institute of Chicago. (Junius Paul on bass). It was dazzling & brilliant, really cleaned out my brain.

"passing of tim", though? who's tim? isn't it "time"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45am tim from champaign (now washington):

Hi JA and everybody! Yes, it is true. I'm dead. The good news is you can still stream FMU when you're dead.

Avatar 10:47am YETI BOB:

@Andrew_in_WI: I saw Ka with Spires a few tims, once with Michael Zerang as a guest. Did you notice that her old band was "Spires" and her new album is "Re-Spires"? I see what you did there Ka!

Avatar 11:10am YETI BOB:

"Bile Noire" makes me think of Iva Bittova's album "Bile Inferno". But actually "Bile" means "White" in Czech so she's not referring to an inferno of bile...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am Booz:

(Yeti Bob is methodically name-checking the contents of my "play again soon" list.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am Booz:

I dusted off my favorite old Bittovà tracks precisely inspired by hearing Baird play on Radio Ravioli.
Avatar 11:15am jt:

  11:15am ZeeBee:

Listened to this album earlier in the week. So eery and beautiful I think. Rip
Avatar 11:16am jt:

I have the record, too but need to find the tim/space to play it. so sad.
Avatar 11:17am YETI BOB:

Booz: If you ever get a chance to see Iva Bittovà, you should go. She's truly one of the best performers I've ever seen... she has an intense presence, and looks you right in the eye... and a brilliant musician. Just amazing. She's based in the USA now so her shows are a bit more accessible.
Avatar 11:19am YETI BOB:

by "accessible" i don't mean the music, just the location :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am Booz:

Saw Bittová a bunch of times, but not in a few years. She seems to be based in Rhinebeck NY now? Ka Baird, btw, seems to have that same total commitment to the moment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am Yes:

dang, i missed purple mountains
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am tim from champaign (now washington):

Alright! It's gamelan Friday again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am Barney Grubbs:

I really wanted Daniel Schmidt to be related to MC Schmidt from Matmos, but I couldn't find any connection.
