Sorry about the show cross-talk but I though "Gunther" sounded suspiciously like Scott Williams. Hmmm?

Oh, WFMU radion show miscegenation is to be encouraged. Cross-talk helps pollination.

Nice nature sounds, dig it!

When the bed music started I thought someone was ringing my doorbell.
My hearing has been impeached.
Avatar 3:29pm

what IS the bed music?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm

i just saw beverly glenn-copeland in leipzig, germany, two weeks ago, or so... and it was so beautiful. cried a bunch
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm

Sounds like a gamelan music box
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm

...and then there was silly stage banter, which i didn't expect. made it even better.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm

I've seen many Merce Cunningham pieces lately, there was a centenary thing here. A bit too much tilt maybe, but I know I'll miss it in the coming years
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm

too much tilt?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm

@ParUbi: The "tilt" is a signature Cunnigham move, bending to the side basically, with the back straight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm

Dance geek talk, I guess. Should I apologize?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm

@fred-- thanks! Not terribly familiar with his work

David Tudor also provided music for Cunningham performances, though the music and dance were usually kept separate until the premiere

I just walked into the other room where NPR was on. Sighed, turned it off, and said Olivia we need you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm

Alison Knowles had a cool installation at the Carnegie Art Museum here in Pittsburgh a few years ago. And yes, I remember beans.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm
Rich in Washington:

This IS much better than NPR.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm
tim from champaign (now washington):

I support Rich in Washington! I'm glad NPR exists. I appreciate and respect their news reporting but I can't handle their entertainment and music. Also, at the risk of getting punched out by podcast listening types, I can't handle this American life.
Avatar 4:22pm
Itzall ClearD'me Nåu:

Occasionally (OK, a LOT of the time) when I'm listening to WFMU while working I get the sneaking suspicion that I must have a hidden browser window open with OTHER sounds eminating... then I remember. It's WFMU.

One of my undergraduate students presented her Capstone research today. She discussed Yoko Ono and Fluxus for a part of it-- I was so proud!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm

@tim: when it comes to being punched out, picking NPR listening types as enemies sounds like a sensible choice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm
Rich in Washington:

I will occasionally put on PR GNUS, by Mr. F. Lemur, at my workplace. They're hilarious cutups of NPR news segments. In the background, it sounds just like you're listening to NPR, but if someone were to listen for any length of time, it's really calculatedly messed up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm
tim from champaign (now washington):

@fred - hahahaha! Yeah, I definitely wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of some AM hate radio listening clown.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm

@ParUbi: Amazing! Your pride is warranted, if you had anything to do with her work
Avatar 🍝 Swag For Life Member 4:27pm
Handy Haversack:

Very cool, ParUbi.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm
tim from champaign (now washington):

@ParUbi - that's great! The other day I was telling someone that while I'm not too fond of the song Merry Xmas War is Over due to overfamiliarity, I'm really glad that millions of people hear Yoko Ono this time of year.
Avatar 4:30pm

RadioFlab is what really bugs me.
Avatar 4:33pm

Get in the Souterrain line and shake your moneymaker.

I spent the term trying to nurture the weird and experimental shoots
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm

Cool beans.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm

This is amazing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm

I think I hear Nico buried in there.
Avatar 4:43pm

Not many radio stations can claim the number of summonings that 'FMU can.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm

this reminds me of a couple weeks ago when i watched "christian mingle" the movie

I have a super-neat idea for wfmu . . Maybe. But . . I'm going to send it in an email soon to Ken Friedman and Olivia for potential considerations. Heads up!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm

I'm remembering more about the Alison Knowles installation. There was a big layer of beans covering microphones. You could take your shoes off and wade in the beans, and the sounds would play on these big speakers attached to the assemblage.
Avatar 4:54pm

Heya Olivia and ravioli crew. Got my bean waders on.
