destination: OUT, part of your complete breakfast.
Avatar 9:00am Mayuko:

Goood morning.
Avatar 9:01am hyde:

hello!
Avatar 9:01am holland oats:

yo d:o! peeps!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02am Jeff Golick:

Wow hey! @Listener Gregory ("it's not small, no no no")! @Mayuko! @hyde! @holland oats! S'up?
Avatar 9:04am duke:

Hello d:o
  9:05am Doug Schulkind:

See you in an hour or so, post yogify!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06am Jeff Golick:

Great to see ya, @duke!
Get down with the down dog, @Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15am fred:

Good morning Jeff and all. I took tomorrow off, kinda second guessing that now, but I'll have to walk a lot on Tuesday, so I'll be glad I did then (If that makes sense, which is unlikely)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am Jeff Golick:

Bonjour, @fred! Is there a strike planned or something similar for Tuesday?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19am fred:

@Jeff; that strike started Thursday and nobody knows when it will end. Definitely not before Tuessay
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am Jeff Golick:

Aha, @fred; got it. Is your walking on Tuesday unrelated, then?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am fred:

Bummer is that $75 bill are playing next weekend in Montreuil, and I'll probably have to miss that show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am ParUbi:

Good morning Jeff and everyone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am Jeff Golick:

Hi there, @ParUbi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am WR:

I was about to hit snooze again on the alarm and then realizing D:O is on, I instead opened the stream on the app. Good morning to those in the Americas and hello to others around the globe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am Stanley:

What's this?
Here I am in my brown sports jacket and beige polo neck sweater expecting some jazz music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29am Jeff Golick:

@WR! If you're snoozy, this set might send you right back to sleep. I welcome you, sleeping or not.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29am Jeff Golick:

@Stanley! Looking sharp, as usual. I'm not sure what this is, but I'm glad you're here for it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am doctorjazz:

Hello, D. O. Very vibe-alicious way to start the day!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am fred:

Walking is totally related. I'll miss Audrey Chen on Wednesday too. Dance comes first, and I'm just too old to walk that much
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32am Jeff Golick:

@doctorjazz! Vibing hard this morning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am Brian in UK:

Hello Jeff and snazzy dressed jazzers.

Oh Stanley, I did not ignore your comment on Doug's show, more like a recalcitrant computer playing up. I saw Nora Mint at Cafe Oto a few years back, very good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am Jeff Golick:

Hullo, @Brian in UK! One of these days I'll get to Cafe Oto. Seems like a wonderful place.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38am Stanley:

if you do, Jeff, give us the heads up and we'll all fly in like homeing pigeons.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39am Jeff Golick:

I would like that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

did i hear the signal to flock?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39am Stanley:

Nice one, Brian. I think she's great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am Brian in UK:

Jeff, it is as basic as necessary, virtually no raised dias. Like someones large living area complete with bar. It is a cafe during the day, one of those things that started as a short term project and escalated. Where else would say, Lonnie Holley play when he comes to town.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am Jeff Golick:

@Granny Spicy Tuna! Birds of a feather...! Hi, there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Howdy Jeff and all. Enjoying this Celestial Vibration…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am Jeff Golick:

It's really remarkable what they've done, @Brian.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am fred:

Instants Chavirés in Montreuil (near Paris) is a great place. Of course they're struggling, so don't take it for granted
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am Jeff Golick:

Would love to get there, too, one day, @fred. I told Jeff Jackson (other half of D:O) to go there when he was in Paris earlier this year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am fleep:

Good morning to Jeffs and non-Jeffs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am Jeff Golick:

@fleep! Thanks for swimming by!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am fred:

@Jeff: Did he do so?
The Party's Over reminds me of when I met Peter Missing and had no idea who he was. Very embarrassing moment
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am Jeff Golick:

Well, as someone who just had to look up who Peter Missing is, color me embarrassed, too. He didn't go, @fred, as I don't this his schedule allowed/there wasn't anything super-enticing happening. He was there when Notre-Dame burned. This is just a coincidence.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

I'm glad i didn't recognize Robert Moog when i met him, or i would have embarassed myself and everyone else!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am doctorjazz:

Cecil...pretty Melodious sounding (for him...or my way of hearing his stuff gas really changed)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02am fred:

I'll always be grateful to Scott McDowell for introducing me to Cecil Taylor's music through the Hey Cecil section of his show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am doctorjazz:

Im missing Missing knowledge myself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am WR:

doctorjazz I was about to comment on CT seemingly being in a melodious mood. Particularly since this seems to somewhat recent, ie, not 50s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am Stanley:

Apparently, Christmas has come to D:O Radio, along with my local supermarket
Avatar 10:11am Listener Gregory:

Thinking of changing my name to Listener Gregoji.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am Stanley:

........which was also playing Winter Wonderworm
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am Jeff Golick:

@fred: yeah, I borrowed from Scott plenty, in the spirit of his Cecil spotlight. He'd be great on the Drummer stream, don'tcha think?

And sorry about that, @Stanley. Too soon?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

it's always too soon for me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15am Stanley:

Anytime is too soon for me, Jeff.
(bah humbug etc.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am Brian in UK:

Just read today that Mickey Dolenz had the third Moog off the production line, after Walter Carlos (as was) and Buck Owens!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am doctorjazz:

Scott did a long stint of Subbing in the stream, think it was Wednesday nights in the summer. I'd sure love for him to have a regular slot.
Avatar 10:18am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...put a Cecil & Desist Order on the X-Mass
...if we could get an Opt In / Out on Holiday Culture I'd sure vote for it
....but if a DJ doesn't frontload a playlist - & - if a track stands on merit - I guess I can't say much...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am Jeff Golick:

Hey, @Revolution Rabbit Nov63! Welcome!
Avatar 10:21am Listener Gregory:

The Zorn Christmas album (which Jeff played a cut from) is successful as easy listening, but I really can't fathom why Zorn was interested in doing it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22am doctorjazz:

Eskelin does Jelly Roll! Cool!
Avatar 10:22am Listener Gregory:

"The Pearls" is one of the great compositions. IMHO
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22am doctorjazz:

Great arrangement!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am doctorjazz:

Reminds a but of way back when, Air covering Jelly Roll Morton.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

there are officially only three hollerdaze-related muziks allowed in my home; Vince Guaraldi, Karl Blau's Coconut-Cracker Suite, and "The Twelve Days of Twin Peaks"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am doctorjazz:

LG, abloluteamente!
  10:28am Dean:

I generally play tons of Christmas, and I do mean, Christmas music. Started yesterday with Bach's so-named Oratorio, followed by Boston Camerata's recital of early English and American carols, then Jessye Norman singing spirituals. Mostly I play medieval and Renaissance stuff. And yes, Guaraldi, as well as Jimmy Smith.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31am Jeff Golick:

Hi, @Dean!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32am doctorjazz:

I like to tune to WKCR, they have a Bach festival the last 10 days of the year or so. Then I put on Steven Bernstein and similar Tzadik records.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am Stanley:

Don't forget Jackson 5, Granny
Avatar 10:36am Listener Gregory:

Most years I buy one or two new Christmas albums, if they look intriguing, but then I forget to play them. This year I brought up the box of Xmas music and will get to work on it soon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

ok, this is pleasing me
Avatar 10:37am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...i.e. - Artistes who stand on merit any damn time...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Stanley: did you see my post before about that? I was just going to add that J5 was on the list for many decades, but now i still get too depressed whenever i hear MJ. :(
Avatar 10:39am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

The Walrus was Paul
'Paul' is Walrusy...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am doctorjazz:

Saw this Perowsky bands at Barbes some time back, that 3 wee great (not with Medeski, though)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40am Jeff Golick:

I hear that, too, @RRN63!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40am Stanley:

I did GST. No harm in getting a bit teary when it comes to artists you love/once loved.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41am Jeff Golick:

Though this Paul is in reference to drummer Paul Motian.
Avatar 10:41am Listener Gregory:

This is sweet. Reminds me of Alasnoaxis.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Stanley: no one breaks my heart like MJ
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am Jeff Golick:

@LG: yeah, same horn player, too.
Avatar 10:44am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Walrus / Silent Way...something else...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

i like these sorta sleepy stumbling sounds
Avatar 10:45am Listener Gregory:

Chris Speed on tenor is inimitable. Yes, I said inimitable!
Avatar 10:45am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

MJ was a Tragedy. Abusers most often the Abused they say.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am doctorjazz:

Have to get this Douglas album (I'm actually a subscriber to Greenleaf, should be able to just download it)
Avatar 10:46am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...how that goes with being a Great Performer is where it gets - complicated...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Revolution Rabbit Nov63: yeah, MJ is the tragedy that keeps on giving. i'm just glad to be in a time and place where we can actually speak about such things more openly, that's the way to healing, in my opinion
Avatar 10:50am Listener Gregory:

That was a superb set, Jeff. Am trying not to open my wallet for all this new music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Listener Gregory: right with you there! excellent set, Jeff!
Avatar 10:52am Listener Gregory:

Webber and Gentile both have very good albums as leaders. Interesting that Douglas has surrounded himself with such younger musicians.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am doctorjazz:

When I saw Perowsky, he played the Beatles things Flying, so I'd guess the Beatles reference is deliberate...but don't knows for sure, if course.
Avatar 10:59am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Flying - same album.
There's what Goodall says about Walrus & its chords :
youtu.be...
...& the acknowledged Hendrix & Pepper influences on Silent Way sessions...
Avatar 10:59am Sem:

Late, along for the last hour.
Hello, Jeff, and all jazz hands aboard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00am WR:

Truth, when the feedback over the xmasy music on the previous talk break I thought about joking that I'm only interested in holiday music played by Pat Thomas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00am Jeff Golick:

@Sem! Any time's a good time to see you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am Jeff Golick:

@WR: heh. Does he have holiday music available?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

WR: just so long as it ain't Pat Robertson!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am ParUbi:

Is it skipping or is it minimalism?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am ParUbi:

Minimalism! Got it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am Jeff Golick:

Somewhere, Terry Riley smiles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

ParUbi:how many times have i been stumped by that one!!!
  11:04am Doug Schulkind:

There’s no place like om.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Jeff Golick: and what a smile. I guess i didn't report on my recent experience of getting to see Terry Riley and his son Gyan performing the 50th anniversary of "A Rainbow In Curved Air." It was a transcendental evening, for sure. My first time seeing Terry Riley live. WOW.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am Jeff Golick:

@Doug: om, sweet om. Welcome back.

@GST: geez, jealous. Where was that?
  11:09am Doug Schulkind:

Good lord this track is amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am Jeff Golick:

You're probably predisposed to like it, Doug, as the group takes inspiration (& name) from Ahmed Abdul-Malik.
  11:15am chresti phone:

Hello Jeff and D:outs
Avatar 11:15am hyde:

i feel like this is the soundtrack from my morning commute
  11:17am Doug Schulkind:

Who knew not breathing would feel so good?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Jeff Golick: i was super lucky there, it was at The Chapel in SF. There were some formidable cameras documenting it for a film about Terry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am Jeff Golick:

Hi, @chresti!
@hyde: hoo boy that can't be good.

@Doug: I'm trying to imagine where they put the cut for the other side of this LP. (The digital track fortunately runs straight thru!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am fleep:

Downward Facing Doug
  11:21am Dean:

The Chapel is a tiny venue. Saw Brotzmann there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am Doug Schulkind:

This Ahmed number is the most exciting piece of new-to-me music I've heard in years. Blown away I am.
Avatar 11:23am hyde:

it's winter orgy season at WHRB, tho the jazz pickings are slightly slim this year. there was a pretty good Black Saint orgy this week. the Ahmad Jamal and African jazz orgies are coming up, seem promising.

there was a Surfin Bird orgy this week where all they played for four hours was Surfin' Bird.

guess what song i had stuck in my head all day that day?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am Jeff Golick:

Bennie and the Jets?

That's a lot of orgy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Dean: yeah, the Chapel is my favorite size venue for a show, don't like much bigger. And i got to sit in the second row, i like to be close to the stage
  11:27am chresti phone:

This is fantastic
Avatar 11:27am hyde:

i agree with everyone that this is a great record
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am WR:

Wow, GST, that close to stage, small venue. A few years ago I went to an In C performance from the nose bleed section of Carnegie Hall.
Avatar 11:29am northguineahills:

ahmed, new to me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am Doug Schulkind:

This must be what heaven is like.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

WR: i hope you had a magnificent time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am Jeff Golick:

Hi there, @northguineahills!
Avatar 11:32am Sem:

Changing your name to Upward Facing Doug, Doug.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am Doug Schulkind:

Concurrent with the molten delight of experiencing this music as it happens is the simultaneously anticipated pleasure of the silence that will follow it. Both things together are in play. Wow wow wow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

yes, this is jumbo value!
  11:40am chresti phone:

Now for 4 hours!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am fred:

@chresti: Sounds good to me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am Doug Schulkind:

I get to live in a world where a radio show plays a piece of music made to sound like that. As Kevin Costner would say, pretty neat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am WR:

@GST, it was interesting. My how time flies. it was in 2009, Kronos Quartet was curating performances that year & 74 + performers were assembled. It seemed to be over so fast. Wonder if a recording is available.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am Jeff Golick:

Hiya Jeff! Hi all! Been tuned in while walking kiddos around the neighborhood, in a nice balmy 38 degree day. Enjoyed the program!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50am Jeff Golick:

So glad, @JtotheK! Thanks for checking in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50am Stanley:

Great show, Jeff, many thanks.
Time to make the soup.
Take care all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am Jeff Golick:

Mind the blazer during soup-making, @Stanley. Great to see you, as always.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am doctorjazz:

Great stuff, Jeff, thanks!
Avatar 11:51am Sem:

Nice, this. Obliged, Jeff. Next time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am fred:

@Doug: You made that world, it's indeed pretty neat that you enjoy it
Avatar 11:55am Mayuko:

Thanks for the music, Jeff!!
  11:56am chresti : phone:

Thanks Jeff, glad to be able to listen live for a smidge of time..
Avatar 11:57am Listener Gregory:

This album title always confuses me. If there is only one heart, then of course it beats as one. What else could it beat as?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am Jeff Golick:

Thanks so much, @doc, @Sem, @fred, @Mayuko, @chresti, @LG, and all who could share this time together!
