Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Rich in Washington:

Hi Linda Lee!
Hi worldsworstrecords!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hi Darryl! Hi LL! Hi Rich!

hi hi hi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Jan Turkenburg:

Hi everyone, listening to the first part and then quietly sneaking out here ;) Have a good show Georgy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Thank you, Jan - and thank you for yet another fabulous show :-)
Avatar 4:01pm Martinibomb:

Just what I wanted to hear today
Avatar 4:02pm worldsworstrecords:

Educate me: I detest so much about Prog, but I'm willing to learn
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I love prog so much :-)
  4:02pm Elizabeth:

Hi Georgy Girl! Home from work today- I am able to listen to your show!
Avatar 4:02pm Mr Fab:

Thanks to my big sister for buying "Brain Salad Surgery" as a yoof. Played the heck out of it. And my introduction to HR Giger, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hi MB!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hi Mr Fab!
Avatar 4:02pm Sem:

Oh, ELP! And...William Blake?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Brain Salad Surgery has such a great cover :-)
Avatar 4:02pm coelacanth∅))):

hey GeorgyGirl and all
  4:02pm Elizabeth:

I don't know much about prog either!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hi Sem! Yes indeed :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hi hi hi everyone!!! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Linda Lee:

all 70s teenagers had their ears dipped in it early.
Avatar 4:03pm Martinibomb:

They use lots of jazz techniques/chords in prog that's one aspect of it that I enjoy @WWR
  4:03pm Domenic:

Jerusalem is so wonderful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm chresti:

Hi again..
Avatar 4:03pm worldsworstrecords:

I had BSS, and a load of prog/hippy nonsense when I was 15/16 years old but then New Wave happened and I never looked back. Plus I got a job in a record shop and started listening to all the late 60s stuff I'd missed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

coelancantho! Elizabeth! Linda! Domenic! chresti! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Rich in Proganistan:

YAY! A Prog Rock special!
Avatar 4:04pm coelacanth∅))):

trilogy my first exposure to ELP. still my favorite, though i love tarkus
Avatar 4:04pm Martinibomb:

I'm a fan of Gentle Giant one of my fave prog bands
Avatar 4:05pm Mr Fab:

My background is just like Darryl's. Prog is kinda like country music. I hate so much of it, except for the stuff that I totally love. If you know what I mean.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I just did an air drum solo to ELP and bashed my elbow on the windowsill - that, my friends is dedication ;-)
Avatar 4:05pm Martinibomb:

Also with Prog it takes a more skilled musician that your usual pop/rock -- Musicianship is another thing I value about it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm Linda Lee:

seems like a good show for us all! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm Rich in Proganistan:

me too, Martinibomb! My favorite is Acquiring The Taste, their second LP.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm Linda Lee:

watch those air drum solos at the board, GG! :-)
Avatar 4:06pm coelacanth∅))):

MartiniBomb - 3 friends, great album (amongst others)
Avatar 4:06pm Martinibomb:

@Rich love that album so much yep highly recommended listening
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Prog is ridiculous, bombastic, overblown, and marvellous - lie back and enjoy it ;-) I've kept the tracks to a reasonable length ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Rich in Proganistan:

before they buggered the hell out of the algorithm, I used to have the best ever Prog playlist going on Pandora. Now it plays some of the most gawdawful crap.
Avatar 4:08pm coelacanth∅))):

it always gets that and justifiably, but i think some prog deserves to be taken as seriously as classical music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Here you go, MB ;-)
Avatar 4:09pm worldsworstrecords:

Funnily enough, I'm currently researching bands who played benefits for the Gay Liberation Front in the early 1970, and a lot of prog/hippy/rock acts were involved: Camel, Goblin, Monksilvar, Hawkwind, the Pink Fairies...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

It's that whole outsiders unite thing :-)
Avatar 4:09pm coelacanth∅))):

Rich yeah i noticed that
Avatar 4:10pm worldsworstrecords:

You're absolutely right GG
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Rich in Proganistan:

Re: Goblin: some of Claudio Simonetti's Italo Disco stuff is amazing and worth checking out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

When I was putting the playlist together (with headphones) I kept squeaking "OH YES!!!! THIS IS FABULOUS!!" and startling my daughter ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I do love Goblin :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

My teenage self is having a great time ;-)
Avatar 4:11pm Mr Fab:

I'm also not sure what is prog - I was always a huge fan of Roxy Music/Eno, Capt Beefheart, King Crimson/Fripp, Can, Hawkwind, Peter Gabriel solo. But you never hear Beefheart called "prog" like, say, ELP. I mean, is early Devo prog? Stuff like "Joko Hom" is in 7/8.
Avatar 4:12pm worldsworstrecords:

I'm not sure if that was the same Goblin, Rich. The Italian band seem to have only existed from 74 onward I think, but these UK shows were 72/73... sadly there's very little info out there so I'm pissing in the dark somewhat
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Prog tends to be "progressive" in the sense of moving music beyond traditional pop structures of time etc. Lots of jazz influences, lots of classical influences. Lots of experimentation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Rich in Proganistan:

I nearly submitted a proposal all Prog program on the college station I was on briefly. It was under naïve assumption that: A: the people listening to the station would like to be exposed to unfamiliar music; and B: that there were listeners of the station.
Avatar 4:13pm Franco Twinkie:

GeorgieGirl! I'd love to hang out and brush up on the lost world of prog, but I have to go learn how to pick up my mom from bed without killing either of us.
Avatar 4:13pm worldsworstrecords:

it's a conundrum, what's prog rock and what is art rock (Roxy), space rock (Hawkwind) and so on
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm Rich in Proganistan:

Oh, another Goblin. Got you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Franco Twinkie - huge hugs to you. We're all here for you. <3
  4:14pm Elizabeth:

I saw Goblin for the first time in September playing live to "Deep Red"! It was great!
Avatar 4:14pm worldsworstrecords:

I think so Rich, but I'm not entirely sure
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

The lines get blurred quite a bit - like you say, art rock, space rock, etc.
Avatar 4:15pm coelacanth∅))):

good luck Franco
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Rich in Proganistan:

I tend to think of all of it as 'art rock', even some Glam, RIO, Canterbury, et al. But Prog seems like it's distinguished by the musicianship of the artists, some classic music discipline (Jazz, Classical, Folk, etc.).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'll add a theory here that musical definitions can be better explained by drugs and social culture (or lack of) rather than the music itself most of the time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

So Mod tends to be sharp and short (speed), psychedelia very long and out there (LSD), and prog a bit wilder and dreamy and long (dope), etc. Very general definition, I know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Discuss ;-) lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I did read an interview with Rick Wakeman where he said that Radiohead needed to man up and admit they were a prog band, which made me laugh ;-)
Avatar 4:18pm coelacanth∅))):

well, like..."punk rock". what the hell is punk rock? wasn't rock & roll by definition all punk rock at one point?
by the time the term was a "genre" there were vague lines between punk rock, rock & roll, pop... what's "new wave"? pop music.
Avatar 4:19pm Mr Fab:

Your theory could be right, GG! i do think of my favorite wild 'n' crazy rock n roll, as "beer-soaked," and the best vocal/EZ as cocktail music.
Avatar 4:19pm coelacanth∅))):

radiohead is definitely a prog band
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mr Fab - there you go. Culture plays a huge part, I think :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Remember the name of the station, Georgy! lol!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

This starts off REALLY quiet, I do apologise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Mike Oldfield's guitar!!!!! HAPPYHAPPYHAPPYHAPPY!! :-)
Avatar 4:23pm Sem:

Mike the O! Last year visiting the wilds of Oxfordshire, came upon an antique store selling the Tubular Bells. Mind. Unhinged.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Sem: WOW. :-)
Avatar 4:25pm worldsworstrecords:

Mike Oldfield was one of the first live gigs I ever went to
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

My friend Gill is in a prog covers band called Progspawn :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Was that the Crises tour?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

There's no Canterbury Scene in this week's show - I'm saving that for the next one :-)
Avatar 4:28pm Martinibomb:

Progswawn!!! hell yeah that's great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Now Pink Floyd are an odd one, I know. I think they had a foot in psych and one in prog. Especially later when Syd left.
Avatar 4:28pm worldsworstrecords:

It may have been GG, unless he toured the year before for Five Miles Out. I saw him in Oxford
Avatar 4:29pm Martinibomb:

progswan whoops that kinda funny but Progspawn! Lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Five Miles Out is my favourite Mike Oldfield song :-)
Avatar 4:29pm Martinibomb:

I am the Progswan!
Avatar 4:29pm Mr Fab:

Floyd were not too technically fancy. Pretty simple songs. Tho some like "Echoes" were fairly ambitious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

It's a mighty Prog Swan! ;-)
Avatar 4:30pm Mr Fab:

Yeah, "Five Miles Out," love that one. Bagpipes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I think the Floyd get prog mention because of the whole length/experimentation thing :-)
Avatar 4:30pm worldsworstrecords:

Just looked it up GG: Five Miles Out, October 82
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Yep - that's when I tried to get tickets for Wembley :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

There's also a pastoral element to prog, I think. Not quite as pastoral as folk but on the same lines.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Chris: Gong have always struck me as "Sunday morning, I'm still mashed" music.
Me: I think there's a case for them being Godfathers of Ambient.
lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Otis Fodder:

Walking in the snow with bags filled with wine and whiskey and cheese and tomatoes, a flying teapot flew over my head and I followed. To my amazement, I was led to my very own home where the computer browsers magically brought up the one and very only Flange & Frigate to my delight. I am one, on the Oily Way!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Ooo. Cowbell. Marvellous :-)
Avatar 4:34pm worldsworstrecords:

Hey Otis!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hi Otis!! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm Otis Fodder:

Happy Friday. Home and at the desk proper now, checking email and listening intently to the prog. I love Gong as well, so very much!!
Avatar 4:35pm worldsworstrecords:

I was always running away from home
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

When I got home my mother screamed at me for half an hour solid and I was trying to concentrate, not laugh, not pass out, and attempt to understand reality. ;-)
Avatar 4:37pm Mr Fab:

"Benny The Bouncer" = ELP's Bonzos moment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm Otis Fodder:

Ha, so true... ELP goes Doo Dah! Now that would be a nice album to have!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Brain Salad Doo-Dah :-)
Avatar 4:40pm Mr Fab:

and "Corporal Klegg" was Pink Floyd getting Bonzo-esque.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Chris just bought a Jonny Trunk book about flexi-disc art and there was a promo flexi-disc with the NME about a week before Brain Salad Surgery came out with a perfect die-cut miniature replica of the album sleeve. WONDERFUL.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Corporal Clegg is the poshest the Floyd have ever sounded. ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I looooooooooooooooove Alucard :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Otis Fodder:

I saw the Flexi book online, drooling a bit, on my wantlist.

I did pick up the Truck Library Music book (both in 2005 and the new version last year). I have to keep both, coffee table gems.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

He found it in Foyles, in London today - great find! :-) Definitely worth getting. Lots of mid-century font face porn ;-)
Avatar 4:45pm V Priceless:

Hello all - enjoying this Prog set - wowza!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@V Priceless - hello and thank you! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Gentle Giant were from my native Portsmouth - the former Simon Dupree of "Kite" fame :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm Otis Fodder:

Will we, by chance, hear King Crimson play, this day? Or... oh gush, McDonald and Giles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

King Crimson, you say? Maybe ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm Otis Fodder:

Thank you, I am both Starless and oh my, Red!
Avatar 4:50pm V Priceless:

yeah, never a line for the ladies room at most prog gigs...LOL
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm Otis Fodder:

21st Century Sheena Man, here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

King Crimson get to be one of the longer tracks :-)
Avatar 4:51pm V Priceless:

oh this is freakin' great!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

How did you know, Otis? ;-)
Avatar 4:51pm Mr Fab:

My fave early Genesis song. The ending always kind of puts a lump in my throat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm Otis Fodder:

When I saw King Crimson a few weeks back, the line at the ladies room was not too shabby, a small line but nothing compared to (IF, and a big IF, I was to ever see Rush live). Ha.

BUT... at Magma 2 years back... the lines were very equal. Yessss!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Peter Gabriel is nothing short of a genius :-)
Avatar 4:53pm V Priceless:

kudos to Steve Hackett, still carrying the prog/Genesis torch with much excellence
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Otis Fodder:

Up to Lamb, Genesis have a very soft spot in my heart.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

My fave King Crimson song is Matte Kudasai but that's later era :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm Otis Fodder:

I need to listen to more later era Crimson (past Red), I like it, just have not fallen in yet. Another area to dig into.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

When we saw Phil Collins in Hyde Park a couple of years ago he did "Follow You" and showed a montage video of Genesis and I burst into tears :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Otis Fodder:

That reminds me, I need to get some 'Cat Food' at the grocery tomorrow.
Avatar 4:57pm Mr Fab:

Oh yeah, King Crimson's "Discipline" album is one of their best. 'twas my entry into 'em. Went backward from there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Peter Gabriel - a man who doesn't know how to name albums. Like Chicago as well ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm Otis Fodder:

Need to jump on Discipline, was the next proper studio album after Red. I just put a sticky on my desktop.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Bit of flute for Jan :-)
  5:00pm Domenic:

All very nice. Thanks for the Prog!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hi Dom! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Dear old Syd <3
  5:01pm Domenic:

Hi GG, listtening in at work, but off to the homestead. where the fam does not tolerate good music ;')
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Archives in secret, eh? :-)
Avatar 5:03pm Martinibomb:

Got a couple Gentle Giant tracks in today, nice work
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@MB - you've got three more coming ;-)
Avatar 5:03pm Martinibomb:

Nice!!!
Avatar 5:04pm Mr Fab:

GG, do you know "Two Dreadful Children" by Cruella DeVille? Best '70s prog song of the '80s. (And it's also a bit Bonzo-y).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I don't but now you've intrigued me. I shall check that out! :-)
Avatar 5:05pm Martinibomb:

I love that track @Fab yeah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Aha - Caravan are from Canterbury. Bit of the Scene there. :-)
Avatar 5:10pm coelacanth∅))):

i never would've considered 2 dreadful children to be prog!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm Progus Podder:

The teapots are flying, flying.
Avatar 5:12pm V Priceless:

yo fish!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I trust everyone's having fun? :-)
Avatar 5:14pm coelacanth∅))):

...then how about "we've got a bigger problem now" by dead kennedys?
multiple tempo changes; time signature changes; strong jazz influence; expert musicianship...
Avatar 5:14pm coelacanth∅))):

hey Veep what's up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Oh absolutely - prog just kept going in different guises. :-)
Avatar 5:15pm Mr Fab:

Maybe "Two Dreadful Children" is more glam? Whatever it is, it's very British and fancy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I like "British and fancy" :-)
Avatar 5:16pm Mr Fab:

apart from that DKs track, "I Am A Doctor" by Fear, and the afore-mentioned "Jock Homo" are totally punk-prog.
Avatar 5:16pm coelacanth∅))):

i was in the kitchen for a while (now eating) and i feel like (at some point) i'd like to check out all the comments i missed!
lots of opinion, lots of information, entertainment!
Avatar 5:17pm Mr Fab:

"JOCKO Homo"
Avatar 5:17pm coelacanth∅))):

...insight
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

:-)
Avatar 5:18pm Martinibomb:

oh yeah mmm now I know you like gentle giant as much as I since you probably played them the most today
Avatar 5:18pm V Priceless:

been on a GG 'in a glass house' binge lately
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm Linda Lee:

isn't this lovely!
& here I thought I was allergic to prog.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm ParUbi:

Konbanwa!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

ParUbi! Hi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm glad I haven't put any one off ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm Linda Lee:

seems i was just allergic to some arrogant fans..
Avatar 5:20pm Martinibomb:

@GG did you have much of an accent when you were a kid here in the NW?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm Linda Lee:

if anyone can make prog work for me, it's you, GG. :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Gentle Giant - 5
ELP - 3
Gong - 3
Barclay James Harvest - 3
Genesis - 3
Mike Oldfield - 2
Pink Floyd - 4
King Crimson - 1
;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm Progus Podder:

Only top shelf Prog here in Sheena's Proggy Room. Hi LL and MB!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@MB - I had a British accent in the PNW :-)
And then a weird hybrid British/Canadian when I got back here.
The Canadian comes back out when I'm super tired. :-)
Avatar 5:23pm Martinibomb:

I guess that we agree Gentle Giant is the best of the prog groups.. i suspect Rich feels the same heh
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Out of everyone I'm playing today, Pink Floyd are my favourite - but probably GG and Gong after that :-)
Avatar 5:24pm coelacanth∅))):

i confess; i've listened to all 7 of the relevant king crimson albums within the past week
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm Progus Podder:

I just threw my card in the hat for Gentle Giant. But don't look at me, I love early Yes and the first 2 ELO albums too. ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Linda Lee:

hi Progus!! love the mustache. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE BETWEEN MY CHILDREN!!! ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Progus Podder:

Gong is my fav today... only because I need to outplay them as much as I have with Floyd. However, Caravan's In the land LP is a huge fav.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Progus Podder:

Thanks, my moustache comes out when I switch from Otis to Progus. 70s stash!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Chris said that they should do a Rick Wakeman Funko Pop. I may have to do one of my custom ones ;-)
Avatar 5:27pm coelacanth∅))):

i love gentle giant, but my favorites are probably pink floyd; then king crimson; then maybe gentle giant, maybe yes.....
Avatar 5:27pm Martinibomb:

I know this sounds weird but I've never been grabbed by Pink Floyd in the way most people I know have. I never liked them when I was a kid and I've only warmed up to them a little over the years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Linda Lee:

right on. bitchin' stash, man.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Progus Podder:

All albums pre-dark side, I go back to on the regular. However, sometimes I just have a fix on a blue moon to hear Animals or Dark Side... but The Wall and Final Cut, my 13 year old self is like wow rad dude, and I am not listening, not one bit, sorry old me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm ParUbi:

I especially love the early Pink Floyd, just because it is so much more free spirited and charming
Avatar 5:30pm Martinibomb:

I think I just need to get some mushrooms or lsd and listen to nothing but Pink Floyd for 24hrs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I love Atom Heart Mother. Used to play that in my studio :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Progus Podder:

There's my fav Caravan album. Nice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Linda Lee:

honestly, what a fabulous show. brava, GG!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I mean Pink Floyd DO sound like architects ;-)
Avatar 5:31pm Mr Fab:

Well MB, the Floyd have had a very rocky existence, from blinding brilliance to utter crap. Syd Barret was an outsider genius of the highest order, some latter album like "Meddle" are brilliant...and then there's what Otis said. Some great stuff scattered throughout the unnecessary ones.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Progus Podder:

Atom Heart is, majestic!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Thank you Linda! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

My cut off point is The Wall. The rest after that is pretty dire for me.
Avatar 5:33pm Sem:

A splendid run of spins, DJ GG. Thank you. Hope to catch you next time. Now off to the Prog and Peach for a bite of dinner.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Thank you Sem :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm Progus Podder:

When I was in middle school, I loved solo Roger Waters. I was young and thought Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking was killer. Ummmm, sorry Roger, I have tried, really I have. Only one I keep on the shelf here is the album The Body (with another fav, Ron Geesin)!
Avatar 5:34pm coelacanth∅))):

it took some immersion, but when wish you were here was constantly on the radio it clicked in me just as they stopped playing it to death. then, exploring what came before i fell in love.
favorite albums: piper at the gates of dawn; meddle; saucerful of secrets.
i stopped paying attention to them when the wall came out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Linda Lee:

thank heaven we change, though. the same tastes as middle school Progus would indicate arrested develpment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm Linda Lee:

devilment?
Avatar 5:36pm Martinibomb:

@Linda well some people change :-) Others... not so much Hah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm Progus Podder:

Evolving Everlasting.
Avatar 5:38pm Martinibomb:

This track is cool okay maybe Pink Floyd is alright
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

LOL! ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm Linda Lee:

I think we *always* change, fundamentally, but some things about us change more slowly. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I have a YouTube video to post to the group that relates to the penultimate track :-)
Avatar 5:40pm coelacanth∅))):

Sydless but still very much under his influence
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm Linda Lee:

my gosh, not penultimate already!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

When Marillion came out a friend of a friend wanted a cassette of "this new band" so my mate did him a tape. The next day he was all full of praise and that's the greatest thing ever, which album is it? And my friend said "It's The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway by Genesis!! Listen to the original!!!" ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Couple more tracks, don't worry :-)
Avatar 5:41pm coelacanth∅))):

oh i just looked and Syd did play acoustic guitar on that one
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Yep - Syd was around for some of Saucerful :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Linda Lee:

*very* jazzy here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Linda Lee:

there's a show for you ~ the jazz/prog connection & all the stops along the way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Lol! Chris just said that ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm ParUbi:

They are so *bubbly* in this period. I love it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm Linda Lee:

well sure! we're listening together!
Avatar 5:43pm Martinibomb:

@linda wuz reading a study show our *ego* changes from one moment to the next and is not fixed. In the article I read there was a Buddhist involved somehow and he had to update his belief system about ego. Thought that was interesting and cool. How many religious orders can update a belief?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm Linda Lee:

well, if Buddhism can't, it can't be done :-D
Avatar 5:45pm coelacanth∅))):

there is a lot of not-so-great prog though. more than really good prog i'll say.
bands like kansas, that were very good, and technically excellent, but don't seem to stick to -at least my- bones.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

The intelligent man changes his mind, as the saying goes :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm Linda Lee:

my smile's fractured! must be an illusion!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Another one that starts super quiet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm ParUbi:

Can you link the study, MB? Curious about that one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Looooooooooooooooooooooooooooove this track :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm Progus Podder:

MB - Here's a Floyd Bassline for ya!
Avatar 5:46pm coelacanth∅))):

one of these days i'm going to cut you into little pieces!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm Linda Lee:

for me it really was the kinds of kids (guys, generally) who liked prog and let us know we were lesser beings if we didn't. to that I said, o bondage, up yours!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm ParUbi:

Though I certainly agree that the ego is constantly changing; it typically moves between pretending it isn't changing, fighting that change, or growth, in my experience.
Avatar 5:47pm Martinibomb:

@Parubi I wish I could.. I'd have to just try and google .. twas awhile ago. I wrote a little short story around it that's why I happen to remember
Avatar 5:48pm Martinibomb:

@Progus! Oh yesss lovely I like the delay? or the FX on that bassline
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm Progus Podder:

One of these (misread lyrics). Had to look this up because when I was young I thought it was something like the ebbie jebbies.

My fav here, "One of these days I'm gonna dance with a king of sweden"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm ParUbi:

In early highschool, I listened to a fragment of Yes (Anderson, Bruford, etc.), Rush, and Trevor Rabin. Still didn't know what Prog was.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

But yes - I have a video that goes with this :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Linda Lee:

now this here leaves me cold as day old fish. a bridge too far! :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Progus Podder:

Oh this one I like too, "One of these days, I'm going to cook you a little pizza."
Avatar 5:50pm coelacanth∅))):

Ubi for sure i was listening to prog before i knew it was called prog
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Get ready Otis! ;-)
Avatar 5:51pm geezerette:

Avatar 5:57pm Martinibomb:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Was there a break about 40 minutes ago?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm Linda Lee:

why is prog so boysie, though? that's my question.very, very few girls liked prog at school & the girls who did were agreeing with their boyfriends.
Avatar 5:58pm Martinibomb:

^ True
Avatar 5:58pm Mr Fab:

Someone say GIRLS?
www.wfmu.org...
Avatar 5:59pm Martinibomb:

Next week will be the female prog groups?
Avatar 5:59pm Don-O:

UT! I'm here. Long story fer later......
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm Linda Lee:

ho! :-)
Avatar 5:59pm coelacanth∅))):

i 've known a few females who liked prog. in fact it was girls in high school who turned me on to yes (beyond fragile) and genesis
Avatar 5:59pm geezerette:

Linda Lee, not prog but we've got Joan Jett & Chrissie Hynde.
Avatar 6:00pm Mr Fab:

My sister had ELP, Yes, and Peter Gabriel albums (not m to mention Sabbath and Zep). So we should ask her.
Avatar 6:00pm coelacanth∅))):

Thanks GeorgyGirl! great program!
