Crepuscularity? At noon?

and that's enough math for one day

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm ParUbi:

Yay, and this Pooka is quite good.
Avatar 12:16pm spodiodi:

whoops. was accidentally listening to ichiban (not a bad thing at all), when commenting that what i thought was the Daniel Land song "cooks" by mistake :) just listened to it for the first time on youtube. pleasurable but maybe not "cooking" :-B
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Julie:

hahahaha
Avatar 12:17pm spodiodi:

actually here now, and loving it :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Julie:

welcome, spodiodi!
Avatar 12:22pm spodiodi:

when i was about 10 or 11 years old, i sneaked out of mass after communion (standard trick), and sat in my mom's car to wait for her. it was freezing cold, so i hunted around for some gloves or anything to keep my hands warm, and was pleasantly surprised to find a nice large pair of unfamiliar leather gloves with fur inside. i was a few minutes into enjoying the magic gloves, when my neighbor and his son opened the doors to their car and found me inside, wearing Mr. R's gloves.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm Phillippe Bastille:

@spodiodi been there, done that. More than once, actually...
Avatar 12:23pm spodiodi:

thank you, Julie! great to be here. how embarrassing :D

have come close before, but that was my first *blush*
Avatar 12:23pm spodiodi:

glad i'm not alone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Phillippe Bastille:

@spodiodi. responded to the "listened to the wrong stream". the Mr. R's glove thing is a little too specific for me to repeat
Avatar 12:24pm spodiodi:

lol, thanks, Phillippe Bastille :) i guessed as much
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm ParUbi:

Yay! Kate!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

sometimes it's challenging to know when you're on a different stream around here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

and, yes, YAY KATE!!
  12:26pm talvi tulee:

Hi again, thanks for Lush! Did you ever catch them live? I found them around the time they (unbeknowst to me) announced their inevitable split (1998). But I saw the reunion with a good friend of mine. At the roundhouse London. And also Kate Bush at the Apollo in Hammersmith. With a lot of luck I managed 1 ticket (rear stalls, standing) and saw almost nothing as I had not gotten my new glasses. But, once in a lifetime......
Avatar 12:26pm spodiodi:

yeah, GSP -- and my media players all skip to the next song when my network takes a poo
Avatar 12:26pm spodiodi:

the next song or stream, that is
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Rich in Washington:

I once walked out of a tobacconist shop and went to my car, only to discover to my horror that the entire left side of my car was riddled with huge dents, as if someone had gone back and forth with a ball peen hammer on it. I was in a panic, then a rage. I then noticed the back seats were filled to the top of the front seats with garbage. I stepped back and then saw that it was an identical model and color of my car, parked a few spaces over. You can imagine my relief.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Phillippe Bastille:

I had a couple going at once a few times...
Avatar 12:28pm spodiodi:

so much for not talking too much (esp about myself today)
Avatar 12:28pm spodiodi:

lol Rich in Washington. nice
  12:29pm Mr Nobody:

I kind of feel like I'm missing out with no technical difficulties. It is almost becoming a tradition. lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Rich in Washington:

The wrong stream thing used to happen to me all the time, especially when using either iTunes or VLC to contain whole lists of streaming stations. Made worse when I've commented on songs that the DJ isn't actually playing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Phillippe Bastille:

Has Stashe been cracking down on the high-volume chatterers? I've been missing seeing a few friends lately
Avatar 12:30pm spodiodi:

my s.o. is away and i'm a lonely boy this week. please wish me luck
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Rich in Washington:

This is also a joke that Portlanders will get: Ever lose your green Subaru in Lower Southeast?
Avatar 12:30pm spodiodi:

no idea, Phillippe. but doesn't sound like her style
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Phillippe Bastille:

luck
Avatar 12:31pm spodiodi:

even in the city here, there are more than a few green subarus sporting Oregon plates. nice joke
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm Phillippe Bastille:

Stashe as in Station Manager Ken. His nickname is confusing
Avatar 12:32pm spodiodi:

oh i thought you meant Stashu and it was a typo
Avatar 12:32pm spodiodi:

i call station manager ken "StaMaKa" in my head
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm Rich in Washington:

Somewhere I have a picture of a green Subaru with both NJ plates and WFMU stickers that I sighted in SE PDX.
Avatar 12:33pm spodiodi:

sounds like it could be stamaka's style
Avatar 12:33pm Hubig Pie:

My subaru is white with the steering wheel on the right hand side and a WFMU bumper sticker on the tailgate
Avatar 12:33pm spodiodi:

haha nice, Rich
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Phillippe Bastille:

Yeah, cracking down on anything is not Stashu's style. World's craziest Friday drivetime program
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Rich in Washington:

When I first started listening to this station, I was confused that there was a Ken, a Ken (of Ken's Last Ever) and Kenneth Goldsmith.
Avatar 12:35pm spodiodi:

i was surpirsed to see stamaka run out of patience with two chatters who were flirting one day... BANT (at least temp?) he said they'd been warned before that this was not a dating site. SO, i implore you all to stop flirting with me. gracias
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Rich in Washington:

Oh. there was a fleet of righthand driver Subaru's owned by our local daily paper which they liquidated when they got out of the delivery business. I wanted to buy one. I still occasionally see one tooling around.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Rich in Washington:

@spodiodi: They were flirting with disaster. I remember that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Julie:

X-Ray was a Ken also! I saw Lush in NYC a couple years ago and Kate in London in 2014 woohoo!
Avatar 12:37pm Hubig Pie:

Yeah, I used to deliver the daily mullet wrapper

What is this , psychic radio ? I was just thinking about Nick !
Avatar 12:37pm spodiodi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Phillippe Bastille:

I drive the antithesis of the typical WFMU listener transportation: a big mid-ougts black Chevy Suburban, fully equipped with the big blue cloud whenever I start it. Waiting to get it fixed before affixing the bumper sticker.
Avatar 12:38pm spodiodi:

rip, X-Ray Burns. hope you're enjoying a Taylor's pork roll right now
Avatar 12:42pm spodiodi:

pretty sure I've seen Lush in the early 90's but it's all a Blur
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Julie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Phillippe Bastille:

So wait, in heaven there is no beer OR pork roll?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Julie. I hope your trip back went well. Back to the snow.
Satan would keep the food tantalizingly near, yet just out of reach.
Avatar 12:55pm spodiodi:

but satan's always willing to make a deal
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm listener james from westwood:

Wow, very different Rick Springfield from what I grew up w/ in the 80s!
Avatar 12:56pm Hubig Pie:

I don't know about heaven or hell, but have seen Taylor pork roll for sale at the Fred Meyer's in Tumwater, WA
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Phillippe Bastille:

This tune is far more thoughtful than anything I remember the Rick Springfield of my youth recording
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Phillippe Bastille:

Beat me to it James
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Julie:

his first album I look forward to exploring more of it!
Avatar 12:57pm spodiodi:

speaking of Rick Springfield -- i wonder what the children would think of listener Barkevious (sp?) 's avatar -- reminds me of Working Class Dog album cover every time i see it
  12:57pm Mr Nobody:

All this talk of pork rolls is making me hungry

i haven't almost gotten in the wrong car in decades, probably because i always drove >20-year-old volvos that weren't that common anymore; but just a few weeks ago, now that i have a more typical-looking vehicle, i opened the passenger door to my upstairs neighbor's car to put something in and for a moment thought my car had been robbed. (which happened once before, many years ago)
yes embarrassed and hoping they/she didn't happen to look out the window as i closed the door.

and Yay paintbox!

@coelacanth that's not what the song says. And if it's on YouTube it has to be true. youtu.be...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Phillippe Bastille:

@spodiodi I LOVE that Ministry album! One of my desert island discs
Avatar 1:04pm coelacanth∅))):

is that the polka song Stashu sometimes plays?
Avatar 1:05pm Hubig Pie:

As a veteran of countless polish weddings, I can attest that in heaven there is indeed no beer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm ParUbi:

Isn't the point of a profile to peep at it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm Phillippe Bastille:

@coelacanth Yep.
Avatar 1:06pm spodiodi:

Phillippe -- that's very interesting. I always liked making fun of it to myself (comparing it to later work), but I never sold it either
  1:06pm Mr Nobody:

Define "behave"
  1:06pm talvi tulee:

Julie, so nice you saw Kate too! since you played syd floyd now, i will repeat my nerdy question I made 1 week ago: since you play a lot of syd-era floyd, what is your opinion on the recent box set? I don't have it, but have heard it of course, and my opinion is it could have been so much better. I mean the Syd-era BBC tracks are mostly awful in terms of sound quality, even though good quality sources exist.
Avatar 1:07pm spodiodi:

Phillippe, I think you're the first person I've heard mention any love for that album. cheers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Hubig seriously true. Everyone's a distant relative of Frank Yankoic by hour 3 of a Polish wedding
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm Julie:

I don't really have any interest in the new box set. I do have the massive early years one. I have all the later albums but they don't grab me enough to get the set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Phillippe Bastille:

@spodiodi I really didn't pay much attention to their other stuff, quite honestly. It was like two different bands.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm ParUbi:

I like Pink Floyd up until Atom Heart Mother.
Avatar 1:10pm Hubig Pie:

Frank played at the polka days in Sheridan , Wyo about 20 years ago and he picked my name out of the tumbler and so I won @ $100
Avatar 1:11pm spodiodi:

Phillippe, that sounds like a reasonable choice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm listener james from westwood:

hoo boy was the Depeche strong with that first Ministry. Not necessarily a bad thing but def. not the "Stigmata" I'd eventually first encounter on the soundtrack of a shitty Bush 41–era sci-fi film.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Julie:

I have played stuff from that first Ministry album if it's the one i think it is
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Rich in Washington:

Hardware? I kind of liked that movie.
Avatar 1:12pm Hubig Pie:

Oops , that was 30 years ago, my how time flies
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Julie:

has a darkwave sound to it
Avatar 1:12pm spodiodi:

was just going to say, I wonder how many times I've made a fool of myself "dancing" to Stigmata. ah, life
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Phillippe Bastille:

I bet polka money spends better
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm CHUCK ROAST:

Best cover band ever!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Julie:

hmm they changed "done" to "gone"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Rich in Washington:

I was just dimly aware of early Ministry, but was blown away by Stigmata-era Ministry, to the point that I assumed they were two separate bands at first.
Avatar 1:13pm spodiodi:

i'm up for trading monopoly money for other alts (white and pink only)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Rich in Washington:

Digging back through their discography, I got to somewhat like their mid-transition album Twitch, even if it did wear its post-peak Cabaret Voltaire influence on its sleeve.
Avatar 1:14pm spodiodi:

Taylor ham is based on Polka Money, i think
Avatar 1:16pm C.S.:

Hey, Julie. Your show's keeping me company in a doctor's waiting room. So much better than their outdated magazines. ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm Rich in Washington:

Taylor Ham sounds like the name of a 70s actor who worked exclusively on made-for-TV movies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm Julie:

is polka money edible?
Avatar 1:16pm spodiodi:

Starring Vic Tayback and Taylor Ham
Avatar 1:17pm spodiodi:

C.S. any Highlights?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm Rich in Washington:

Say what you will about Taylor Ham, but he's no Clu Gulager.

which, JamesfWW?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Rich in Washington:

I remember recently being in a panic after Daniel Johnston passed away and I'd misplaced my copy of Dead Dog's Eyeball. I ended up having to rip a copy from the station's (KBOO) library. I still haven't found my copy. I suspect I left it in the air room years ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm Julie:

CS yes I did!
Avatar 1:28pm C.S.:

@ Julie I was surprised to learn that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Julie:

dead dog's eyeball is up there with Jennifer Warnes's Famous Blue Raincoat as great one-artist tribute albums. and I guess now Juliana's Olivia.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm listener james from westwood:

Might've been just a game system vs. a particular game.

That one "Mad World" cover was used perfectly in a Gears of War ad, I do recall.

A bit more off-topic that usual for me: My office is in a converted storage shed, so when I need to reload/empty fluids I have to go in the house. I just walked in the house and found my son's Doberman mix licking a cast iron skillet it pulled off the stove.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Michael 98145:

Hiya, Julie
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Julie:

well that must have been a sight. hiya michael!
Avatar 1:31pm spodiodi:

to your dobie, Phillippe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Ken From Hyde Park:

At least Gallant would pledge to WFMU. Not so sure about Goofus.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm WR:

Julie! Is this truly you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Julie:

oh weird this is some very bowie sounding moodies (to me anyway)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Phillippe Bastille:

I have to use both hands to handle that thing. Weighs a ton
Avatar 1:33pm coelacanth∅))):

yeah i just looked up goofus and gallant and goofus is a dick!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Rich in Washington:

No, you're not alone. I actually thought this was Bowie too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Julie:

It's me! The real me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm Julie:

Mike Pinder on vocals
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm Michael 98145:

weird, indeed. this.
Avatar 1:34pm coelacanth∅))):

Phillippe that must've made some crazy noise when it hit the floor!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Julie:

I think it was the Pinder that FXO was very fond of.
Avatar 1:35pm C.S.:

Goofus would pledge to WMFU using a stolen credit card.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Julie:

LOL
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Phillippe Bastille:

If Goofus and Gallant both pledged to WFMU, I can almost guarantee the Tape Rat shirt on the floor belongs to Goofus.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm Rich in Washington:

Moody Blues, esp. their 'classic era' are rather underrated in my opinion. I think the radio overexposure of Days of Future Passed sort of banished them from the halls of rock snobbery.
Avatar 1:36pm spodiodi:

goofus also knows a guy with "fresh" cash, but it's hard to internet he said
Avatar 1:36pm coelacanth∅))):

it does sound like Bowie. i may have never noticed before because i heard the moodys album before i'd ever heard much Bowie
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm Phillippe Bastille:

@coelacanth. Seriously. I looked for dents in the floor but didn't see any. Her head probably broke the fall
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm Rich in Washington:

Goofus is really into crypto I hear.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm Rich in Washington:

Goofus vapes in the entryways of nightclubs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm RomanDogBird:

wish i were a goofus, but i'm also not much of a gallant
Avatar 1:37pm spodiodi:

sucker
Avatar 1:38pm spodiodi:

Goofus is a lot more laid-back and less judgmental
Avatar 1:39pm coelacanth∅))):

(my only exposure to goofus and gallant is the one comic on the wikipedia page)
Avatar 1:40pm spodiodi:

"Goofus vapes" will be with me a while. thank you, Rich
Avatar 1:41pm βrian:

I used to not like the Beach Boys. And now ...

I still don't care for the Beach Boys.
Avatar 1:42pm coelacanth∅))):

from what i'm reading here i'd say goofus does not partake in any cannabis. seems more like a cokehead to me.
gallant might smoke though
Avatar 1:43pm coelacanth∅))):

(or vape)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm Rich in Washington:

Goofus talks to people on speakerphone in restaurants.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Off Topic:

Fun fact: Gallant is not anatomically correct
Avatar 1:44pm coelacanth∅))):

haha
Avatar 1:44pm spodiodi:

Gallant is a lot like Endicott. I'll never be like Endicott www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Phillippe Bastille:

Hard to believe the organic songwriting talent in TDN and Josie and the Pussycats was on the same level
Avatar 1:44pm spodiodi:

*get off my lawn* damn smartkids
Avatar 1:47pm coelacanth∅))):

OT is he "smooth"? (like ken)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm Off Topic:

heh...just like Ken
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Off Topic:

@spodiodi: Thanks for reminding me of Endicott. Completely forgot about that one.
Avatar 1:52pm spodiodi:

my pleasure, Off Topic. to your clamps
Avatar 1:52pm coelacanth∅))):

now i'm getting the impression gallant doesn't smoke herb either!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Phillippe Bastille:

I saw Kid Creole and the Coconuts live once. Pretty great stage show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Julie:

don't knock Josie and the pussycats though
Avatar 1:53pm spodiodi:

nice, Phillippe. I'm jealous
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Julie In Gordon Gableman's treatise "Josie and the Pussycats and the Advent of Nuclear Weapon Proliferation", J&TP did not get treated kindly
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Michael 98145:

i was just thinking. i don't think i have -ever- listened to a WFMU show and not heard something i'd never heard before. i like that very much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm Phillippe Bastille:

@spodiodi It was a pretty large assemblage on stage, probably a dozen or so folks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Michael 98145 100% agree on both statements
Avatar 2:00pm coelacanth∅))):

i broke down and looked at some other goofus and gallant comics and it just looks like third-person comparisons. is there ever any dialogue? or is it just "do this, don't do that"; "this is bad, this is good"...and do they even know each-other?
- seems very boring to me! what kid would want to read that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Michael 98145:

and now LPD!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Phillippe Bastille:

@coelecanth sounds like a topic for your first Ted Talk. I'd listen to it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm Julie:

I really try to do both, the strange and the familiar
Avatar 2:05pm coelacanth∅))):

haha Phillippe
  2:07pm spodioidi:

"Don't do what Donny Don't does"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm Rich in Washington:

In a lot of ways, Goofus and Gallant seem like some kind of Iron Curtain propaganda, with Goofus as the straw man for someone who's not doctrinally correct.
  2:08pm spodioidi:

hear, hear, Rich
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm Off Topic:

Right on, Rich. Fight the power, smash the state! (no Endicott in me)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm Rich in Washington:

I want to hear a long diatribe about Goofus and Gallant by Slavoj Žižek.
Avatar 2:29pm spodiodi:

hAIL Žižek
Avatar 2:29pm spodiodi:

he cracks me right up
Avatar 2:29pm spodiodi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm off topic:

He's tendentious!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm Michael 98145:

btw julie, i did mean the early years box set. otherwise cool, but syd-era bbc tracks..... just awful! bootlegs are better for that.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm Julie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Phillippe Bastille:

Thank you Julie! You just about made it all 3 hours!

BBC Archives 1967-1969 - 40th Anniversary Edition is what it is called. also have you got it yet bootleg series is good.... if somehow obsolete on some areas

i have got SO Many of the have you got it yet stuff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm Stanley:

Dug that!
  2:56pm talvi tulee:

perfect day that you played earlier always reminds me of ian curtis' interpretation: you're going to read just what you saw. he seemed to use a technique with joy division where he replaced some of his lyrics with similar sounding words in a live situation...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm Phillippe Bastille:

We're just trying to avoid traffic ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm off topic:

welp, it's off to the re-education camp for me.
Thanks Julie!

  2:59pm spodiodi:

Thanks again Julie
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm Julie:

thanks everyone!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Gallant politely bids everyone goodbye.
Goofus slams the door and runs out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm Stanley:

Thank you, Julie.

Ken I love the dancing kitty
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I read an article that made reference to people who don't like Joni Mitchell. It's something I couldn't conceive of.

Still can't.
  3:26pm talvi tulee:

even the 80s stuff does it for me with joni.... on another note, hope the show is archived soon, will listen the hour or so that i missed... until next time.
