Today a "Group Mixtape" -- Featuring requests from the Exotica - Cool, Strange and Unusual Music Group on Facebook.
Avatar 3:31pm Martinibomb:

The Request Line is open for the next 3hrs! I'll do my best to play anything that shows up in the chat room. In celebration of Abstract Sound Artist, Daniel Menche's birthday today I'll be playing a selection from his latest release toward the end of my show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm ducking out early tonight - been running a temperature all day so I'm going to go and dose up. Have a fabulous show and I'll catch up in the archives! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Jan Turkenburg:

Hi MB, have a good show!
Avatar 4:01pm Martinibomb:

Hope you feel better DJ Georgy! Probably a good idea. Cya Jan!
Avatar 4:01pm Ursula1000:

Avatar 4:02pm Martinibomb:

oh hey @Jan was going to see if you wanted to co-host christmas with me?
Avatar 4:03pm Martinibomb:

Hey Alex!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm Webhamster Henry:

I like Mixtapes.
Avatar 4:08pm Martinibomb:

Hey Webmaster! Takin' requests today so feel free to shout something out
Avatar 4:08pm Mr Fab:

Exotica requests? I request a mai-tai, pleeze!
Avatar 4:09pm Martinibomb:

I could go for a Mai-Tai -- The Alibi Tiki bar is only 2blocks from my house ... maybe I have time to get there and back if I call it in
Avatar 4:12pm Mr Fab:

am looking at pics of the Alibi - really nice! So it's escaped gentrification so far?
Avatar 4:13pm Ursula1000:

Herb played here in NY a few days ago and I totally missed it--grrr
Avatar 4:15pm Martinibomb:

Whaaa Oh my gawd I would so love to see him live. @Fab yeah they fixed the Alibi up it's a little nicer than it's been in quite some time. Karaoke makes it super popular
Avatar 4:15pm Martinibomb:

@Fab the drinks SUCK at the Alibi tho :-( Hale Pale here in town is like SUPER GOOD
Avatar 4:18pm Mr Fab:

a tiki bar with bad drinks? Oh, that's just wrong. There's some good spots, but I tend to make my own cocktails, so hard to find anyone who knows what they're doing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm ParUbi:

Of yeah, this is the stuff.
Avatar 4:19pm Martinibomb:

@Fab well mediocre.. passable -- Hale Pale blows em away
Avatar 4:19pm Martinibomb:

@ParUbi ever heard of Gruff Rhys before I wasn't familiar with him.. pretty good tho this track is great
Avatar 4:21pm Mr Fab:

so far as requests go, got any of that Thai pop a go-go type stuff?
Avatar 4:23pm Ursula1000:

Gruff is the Super Furry Animals dude yeah?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

finally checking in, listening to these fine tunes while plotting a getaway with my girlfriend. hey, this is the Matty Warwick melody!
  4:25pm JR Claiborn:

Here via Cool & Strange Facebook. Dig the Herb Alpert redo.
Avatar 4:26pm Mr Fab:

Hi JR! I would imagine anyone from such a Facebook group would like this entire channel in general.
Avatar 4:27pm Martinibomb:

Hey JR! Thanks fer stopping by
Avatar 4:29pm Mr Fab:

"Gruff is the Super Furry Animals dude yeah?" At first, I thought you were referring to McGruff, the crime dog. After all, he is a super furry animal.
Avatar 4:29pm Ursula1000:

haha McGruff's got nothing on me!
Avatar 4:32pm Martinibomb:

Ah okay I am not super familiar with Super Furry Animals. I know the band but not specific members
Avatar 4:34pm Ursula1000:

cool Welsh psyche brit pop band
Avatar 4:35pm Martinibomb:

I know who they are but I've never really *listened* to them if you know what I mean
Avatar 4:35pm Mr Fab:

FANGS very much for this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm ParUbi:

This is what the inside of my skull sounds like
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Otis Fodder:

Running in, dang missed Claudine.
Avatar 4:39pm Ursula1000:

these guys must have been laughing their asses off while making these tracks
  4:39pm JR Claiborn:

Hello Otis. We worked together on porn music for the masses 2.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm ParUbi:

This track is *fine*. Everything is fine.
Avatar 4:41pm Martinibomb:

@Jr cool! I did some music and I think some of the art or a cover of vol.1 or 2
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Otis Fodder:

Hi JR. Wakka Chikka to one and all.

At first I was like, who's requesting Merzbow?!
Avatar 4:42pm Martinibomb:

IT does sound like Merzbow doing country wow
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm Otis Fodder:

I would buy that album.
  4:43pm JR Claiborn:

You Martini are for true the bomb!! Your work on on is the best. Love Bomb stuff and Miller.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Otis Fodder:

Big shout for playing Cocteau Twins!
Avatar 4:44pm Martinibomb:

The Cocteau Twins got me interested in Synths true story! @JR thanks appreciate that
Avatar 4:45pm Mr Fab:

There was a vol. 2 of "Wakka Chikka"? Now you tell me! Will thro that on the listen-to pile.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

when i hear this Cocteau Twins i am transported to a late-80's teen-aged me coming down from a trip in the early hours of the morning
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Otis Fodder:

Cocteau Twins got me (futher) interested in fashion, candles, late nights and lovely girls.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm Otis Fodder:

Fab - Marco released vol 2 on WM, www.wmrecordings.com...
  4:47pm Domenic:

Eric, Thanks for featuring the Exotica Cool Strange and Unusual Page Facebook page. It’s a great interactive workout amongst friends having fun!
  4:48pm JR Claiborn:

The track "The Love God" on V1 Wakka Chikka is the only reason I sent in for Vol. 2. Excellent production work. Had a home studio ever since.
Avatar 4:48pm Mr Fab:

Huh, i never knew anyone who liked the Cocteau Twins. Me and my friends used to make fun of them for being so silly and affected. Oh so precious. (Tho we loved Kate Bush, who was at LEAST as fruity, if not more so, heh heh.)
Avatar 4:48pm Martinibomb:

oh shit I did the cover hah kinda forgot
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm Otis Fodder:

I space stuff like that all the time too. Ha.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm Otis Fodder:

Nice Ennio! Still have this on Easy Tempo Vol 5!
Avatar 4:50pm Martinibomb:

@Dom yeah this is fun! Really cool mix your group put together.
Avatar 4:50pm Ursula1000:

Alpha Flight #12---good issue
Avatar 4:51pm Martinibomb:

@Ursula I knew you'd say something about that title - couldn't agree more
  4:51pm JR Claiborn:

Kind of pre B52's
Avatar 4:52pm Ursula1000:

haha it IS Wednesday---new comics yo!
  4:52pm Domenic:

Well its your group too! Doing well because "Exotica Nation" is fabulous. As everyone might know it started off 25 years ago as the "Exotica Mailing List" I hunted down "Lazlo" and got admin right and brought it to Facebook in 2011
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm ParUbi:

Merzbow country music. It works!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm ParUbi:

Play :zoviet*france:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

Hey, MB & All! Listening here at my desk and it's amazing so far :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm ParUbi:

{please :) }
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm Rich in Washington:

Just watched a fairly interesting episode of a making of series about Ghostbusters. It was pretty good. It's called Movies That Made Us and it's on Netflix (US).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm Otis Fodder:

I watched that too Rich, was good!
  4:57pm Domenic:

Rich, I watched the Die Hard episode on Netflix.
Avatar 4:58pm Martinibomb:

Gaaa I love Eden Ahbez
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm Rich in Washington:

a bit hard to get into at first due to its rapid pace and constant zingers, etc, but every episode was pretty interesting, even if the movies weren't ones I was particularly gaga over.
  4:58pm JR Claiborn:

Caught that too. Good program. Netflix and Disney+ have my vote.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm ParUbi:

This guy sounds a little like Jon Lovitz to me. Does that ruin it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm Rich in Washington:

Eden Ahbez was the Ur hippie.
  4:59pm Domenic:

Eden Abhez is great. And there's a new effort coming out soon by the Swedish group..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm Rich in Washington:

I remember hearing someone's phone interview with him (or something) several years ago and it was fascinating. What an original.
Avatar 5:01pm Mr Fab:

In some ways tho, Eden Ahbez and the other Nature Boys were anti-hippie: they were all about health and discipline, so no drugs, booze, loose living, etc.
  5:01pm Domenic:

So the Exotica - Cool, Strange and Unusual Music Group on Facebook is there to cheer on all "passion projects" ! And Sheena is definitely one! Gotta go, and keep growing! Feel free to always reach out.
Avatar 5:02pm Mr Fab:

Well thanks Dominic, super cool of you, sir!
Avatar 5:03pm Mr Fab:

(and sorry for misspelling your name)
  5:04pm JR Claiborn:

Mancini is taking over my south wall. :)
  5:07pm JR Claiborn:

Got any Walter Carlos over there?
Avatar 5:07pm Martinibomb:

probably can dig something up? anything specific?
  5:08pm JR Claiborn:

La Gazza Ladra (The Thieving Magpie, Abridged)
  5:14pm JR Claiborn:

Got a track or 2 you're welcome to play if you're so inclined.
  5:15pm JR Claiborn:

That U1000 is killer!
  5:29pm JR Claiborn:

Going for some grub. Thanks for playing. Ill be back in a few.
Avatar 5:29pm Martinibomb:

Thanks for listening JR!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm Otis Fodder:

Over at the desk here working listening and I say zaavier, but x-aaaa-vier works too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm Otis Fodder:

We can always just go with Maestro Cugat too!
Avatar 5:40pm Mr Fab:

I have "Gesundheit" on a comp called The Lavender Jungle, but it's credited to 'Luchese Liebhaber' for some reason. Maybe Cugat was too big a name for a grey-label release, so they released it under a phony name hoping to sneak it thru?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm ParUbi:

This is really inspiring!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

For some reason I am craving peanut butter. . .
Avatar 5:48pm Martinibomb:

ParUbi & HOpey got anything u want me to throw into the mix today?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm ParUbi:

I have Carlos's Four Seasons on LP.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm ParUbi:

Oh, right. Well, if zoviet france isn't lying around, why not some... Ruins?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm ParUbi:

(the Japanese Ruins, not the other Ruins)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm ParUbi:

although the Italian new wave Ruins could also work
Avatar 5:57pm Martinibomb:

I just got Walter Carlos Winter cued up for ya
Avatar 5:57pm Martinibomb:

It's going to work well with this Daniel Menche track I want to play they are both about 20min --- why not play some longer stuff for the final hour?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm ParUbi:

Daniel Menche works! Such a nice guy, too!
Avatar 5:59pm Martinibomb:

It's his birthday today
Avatar 5:59pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I just played a peanut butter sample on mine.
Avatar 6:00pm Mr Fab:

i also have Carlos' "Sonic Seasonings" LP on vinyl - interesting that it's not only pre-Eno ambient music, but I noticed that it actually uses the word 'ambience' in it's liner notes. Wonder if this was all on influence on Brian E., or just coincidence?
Avatar 6:00pm Martinibomb:

For reeeeeeelz Kenzo??? for really reals??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:01pm ParUbi:

You could also play Rush's "Temples of Syrinx," from 2112, but that might destroy WFMU with opposite energy
Avatar 6:04pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@Martinibomb Yes, a very silly peanut butter sample, part of a weird debate between a mother and son about the arguable superiority of organic food. wfmu.org... , come check it out later! One of my top-favorite episodes ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm ParUbi:

Oh shit, your show's on too, Ken!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm ParUbi:

Easy solution: play both at the same time
Avatar 6:07pm Mr Fab:

Ha, martinbomb has done that very thing. And played ken & Andy at the same time, too. Can we have all 3?
Avatar 6:08pm Domenic:

Love Carlos, Started years ago when I found "Switched on Bach" at the library. I have her Water Music as the ring on my cell phone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm ParUbi:

Things are getting really ... low ph... over here
Avatar 6:09pm Domenic:

One more request then. pop that on! Water music by Handel ala Carlos
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm Otis Fodder:

Great show, thanks for the tunes. Off to fix dinner, see ya!
Avatar 6:12pm Domenic:

Water Music makes a great ringtone. My Ex boss hated it! LOL He was an ass.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm ParUbi:

Oh, so now I'm mixing his stream with your stream that's mixing his stream in with it.
Avatar 6:13pm Mr Fab:

Yep, here we go, crossing the streams. This...THIS...is what makes Martinibomb a Grandmaster of inventive programming.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm chresti:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm chresti:

Great, I'm also listening to Kenzo's show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm ParUbi:

The Menche is working pretty well with this.
Avatar 6:17pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

More peanut butter for all
Avatar 6:19pm Mr Fab:

Speaking of your album cover art MB, have you ever drawn any comic books?
Avatar 6:22pm Martinibomb:

@Fab Yup done a few comics in my life for sure
Avatar 6:22pm Martinibomb:

Did a million storyboards for the advertising folks
Avatar 6:25pm Mr Fab:

Any of your own writing, like the comix/'zines of Sheena's own Don-O, or just commercial stuff for hire?
Avatar 6:26pm Martinibomb:

used to do a comic called zombie hitman half blaxploitation/zombie/crime
Avatar 6:27pm Martinibomb:

I also just have a bunch of weird experimental comics I did in the 80s/90s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm ParUbi:

Of course you do, Martinibomb! <3
Avatar 6:29pm Mr Fab:

ha, gotta put 'em on line, would love to see 'em. Or better yet, we'll re-package them as a Marathon premium - Sheena's Comix!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm chresti:

That's a great idea!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

I would totally pledge for Sheena's Comix!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm ParUbi:

That would be *very* cool
Avatar 6:43pm Domenic:

How about Quincy Jones doing Exodus? For a request? Heard it recently.
Avatar 6:44pm Mr Fab:

Well, MB, the people have spoken. Others could contribute, (Maybe some listeners out there..?)
Avatar 6:45pm Martinibomb:

I'll resurrect my "Ranger Bud & Salmon comicx for yall
Avatar 6:46pm Martinibomb:

I did a whole bunch of "happy meal" comic books for local burger chain Burgerville heh he
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm ParUbi:

Are the "nature boys" all related? Was that one guy's (Jon Lovitz sounding) "nature boy" the first, or was that in reference to a prior nature boy?
Avatar 6:51pm Mr Fab:

The Nature Boys were a loosely-affiliated counter-culture group, before the term 'counter-culture' was used. Kerouac mentions them (in On The Road, i think?) They started in Germany (hence, all the DISCIPLINE!)
Avatar 6:51pm Mr Fab:

Wavy Gravy, the MC at Woodstock who warned everyone about the brown acid, was also one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm ParUbi:

Of course!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:53pm ParUbi:

Avatar 6:53pm Domenic:

On the Exotica facebook page I started a thread on artists to pitch there passions. Were going to hit 9000 people next year. Feel free to look for volunteers for this cool subset of WMFU Mr Fab.
  6:57pm JR Claiborn:

Cool stuff. C U later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:58pm ParUbi:

Korla Pandit!
Avatar 6:59pm Martinibomb:

Thanks everyone! That was a fun mix today Gee Wizzzz
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:00pm ParUbi:

Thanks, MB!
Avatar 7:00pm Martinibomb:

Time for Mai Tai -- I'm heading to Alibi see you there!
Avatar 7:00pm Mr Fab:

Love it! Much thx, MB. See y'all tomorrow for "Cannibal Stew" and ursula1000.
