Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

UM, feed sounds fine. I'd prefer a bit more bass myself, maybe that's just me though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Uncle Michael:

Appreciating the feedback.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Rich in Washington:

i would say it's definitely brighter than most shows on the stream, but not tinny by any means. It definitely is more apparent on my Sony MDR-7056s than my speakers here at work, which are really bass heavy usually. It's actually a bookshelf stereo system which I've plugged my computer into.
Avatar 12:25pm Brian in UK:

Uncle, would not fancy cleaning out that Space coop.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Uncle Michael:

Maybe my 7506s need breaking in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm pacific standard simon:

All right, bit the bullet and climbed out of bed. Well worth it for The Dan.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Rich in Washington:

I was just reading about the burn-in factor somewhere this week. Some people say it's a thing and others not. I've had this pair for at least five years and I tend to crank it up. I imagine they're past burnt in and maybe burnt OUT.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Asheville Jon:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm pacific standard simon:

If you got no dissonance, you're not playing fast enuff.
Avatar 1:03pm Listening Out There:

@Asheville Jon - Ah. Well, thanks. Maybe you're just doing a wired connection, eh? I use Chromecast devices to send video from computer to a TV, and Google is supposed to have a similar device to send sound to loudspeakers in a stereo. I'd like to try the latter sometime and frighten the neighbors with FMU, HDT, etc. :)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm melinda:

@UM I was in transit from coffee shop to home for the last hour so sorry if I missed any info but are you taking requests for the new year all-request show?
  1:24pm dan:

@still b/p
MORE COWBELL!!!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm melinda:

I love good-time music.
Avatar 1:25pm Listening Out There:

@Brian - Funny, I was just reading something recently about the Bonzos, and that some of 'em worked with Arthur Brown and his crazy world...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Uncle Michael:

Not yet, melinda.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm Rich in Washington:

@Granny Spicy Tuna @1:19: She's doing great AND bored silly. Our joint binge immediately following her return home was the TV series M*A*S*H, from the very first episode, if that tells you how bored she was/is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm pacific standard simon:

I've been binging M*A*S*H too! It's invalid comfort food.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Uncle Michael:

How' the sound now? Is it nice?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Rich in Wash.: ah, yes, what we resort to! But a friend of mine always wishes folx a boring recovery, and i thought that was probably a good idea. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

sounding wonderful from this angle, UM!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

this entire set is pleasing me plenty!
Avatar 1:33pm Brian in UK:

@LOT it was a bit like a club around that time. Everyone knew each other and reality was somewhere out there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks! I'm tweaking the mix a bit too, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm melinda:

@Rich at least we have a plethora of electronic media options in current times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm Rich in Washington:

@pacific standard simon: M*A*S*H works great since we both watched it growing up but it's also deals with patching people up. During a previous surgery, my wife had this really funny (in retrospect) painkiller induced delusion where she was in the 4077 and the doctors were ignoring her needs while playing cards in the other room, so watching it all again was weirdly healing for her.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm pacific standard simon:

Honestly, I can't tell the diff in the sound, between the massive speakers I had in the '70s, and the ears I had in the '70s. Wouldn't even try.
Avatar 1:37pm Listening Out There:

@Brian: Your description's pretty consistent with the piece I read...
Avatar 1:38pm βrian:

"Well, this is rich," said Charlie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm Rich in Washington:

@melinda: we did have one point where a storm had knocked out not only our internet, but our landline for a couple of days, which made my poor Coco's anxiety spike, since we live out in the boonies.
Avatar 1:39pm burke:

Thank G_d for Stax records!
Avatar 1:40pm βrian:

I miss the boonies, but at least we have owls around to serenade us.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm Uncle Michael:

burke!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm pacific standard simon:

@Rich in Washington -- Yeah, I had some really interesting hallucinations about my ICU nurse. Also grossed out my boss by casually talking about "chest cracking." :-)
Avatar 1:44pm βrian:

I had a chiropractor like that ...
Avatar 1:44pm Brian in UK:

@pss I love the smell of diathermy in the morning.
Avatar 1:46pm Martinibomb:

I grew up in the boonies I believe Bugs Bunny was from there as well
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm chresti:

Good sound
  1:58pm dan:

The Shape I'm In, also covered by Jeremy Spencer of Fleetwood Mac, before he joined the Children of God cult.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm chresti:

I'm a believer on the moon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Uncle Michael:

right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm melinda:

I sometimes miss the boonies but when I lived there I missed town life more.
  2:04pm dan:

Doug Yule doesn't get enough credit for his work with The Velvet Underground. This song is proof.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm Uncle Michael:

Fuzzy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm melinda:

@Dan I agree. There was an interesting interview-by-proxy on Todd's show a few years ago, questions were sent to his daughter and she interviewed him while visiting for a holiday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm pacific standard simon:

Lou didn't care too much for for Doug's vocals, either -- he just didn't have much choice, since he'd pretty much blown out his own voice that summer.
Avatar 2:12pm Franco Twinkie:

The Del Pricks or The Del Prees, what is the consensus?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm Webhamster Henry:

Hi Hinky Dinks! I've been lurking but not commenting.

Lawrence Welk: proof that there are no guilty pleasures.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Uncle Michael:

Henry! Guy Lombardo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm melinda:

@Franco Pricks is funnier though probably not the intention
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm Rich in Washington:

@dan, melinda: I remember Yule getting fairly trashed again in the music press upon the release of VU in the late 80s, sort of deriding him as a Reed clone. I quite enjoyed Loaded, myself.
Avatar 2:21pm spodiodi:

Guava Jelly sounds fun
Avatar 2:22pm Franco Twinkie:

The Del Pricks should have covered Gauva Jelly.
Avatar 2:24pm Listening Out There:

UM, you is correct. Hank Roberts is playing these days in Bill Frisell's Harmony band...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm chresti:

Voodray troovay
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Allo Alles, Heard some early 60s tracks of Lou singing. Pretty damn good!
Avatar 2:30pm Listening Out There:

This Russians is a *great* pick. Haven't heard it in ages...

Avatar 2:31pm spodiodi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Best wishes to our recovering WestCoasters.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm chresti:

I remember having nightmares after seeing The Russians are Coming..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm pacific standard simon:

I make no pronouncements upon Doug Yule's interpretations -- just saying that Lou didn't like them. Then again, Lou could be an asshole.
  2:32pm dan:

Made For TV is Lou Reed if he didn't sing period.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm KevinfromBayRidge:

@Chresti, that movie actually humanized, through comedy, the monolithic Ironmen. My first exposure to Alan Arkin too.
  2:36pm Dean:

A song about Richard Johnson and nobody picks up the pricks thread?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm pacific standard simon:

I happen to like Lou Reed's "singing", though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm Uncle Michael:

Me too. I'm glad you're doing well, Simon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm Uncle Michael:

Dean is ashamed of us.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm chresti:

@Kevin, I know, it was a comedy but I still had invasion dreams after seeing it, when I was about 10 or 11
Avatar 2:45pm βrian:

Clearly, we didn't rise to the occasion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Problem is, Chresti, the present day Russians give me bigger nightmares!
Avatar 2:48pm Brian in UK:

Thanks Uncle. Hope the weekend is good for non-workers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm Pedro in Arlington:

Feel better, Uncle Michael. You need to be in shape for the winter meetings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm pacific standard simon:

The other thing I have been binging on is The Dick Van Dyke show. Everything that Carl Reiner ever did, including minor acting projects like The Russians Are Coming, is worth watching.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm Uncle Michael:

Pedro! Thank you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm pacific standard simon:

I like The Gants's version of "Roadrunner".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm chresti:

@Kevin- right?
Avatar 2:56pm Franco Twinkie:

I like episode where Dick Van Dyke asked Carl Reiner if he wants a glass of water, and Carl replies: "No, I want a glass of dust."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm pacific standard simon:

Ha, I don't even remember this Patti Smith track! Who's playing the sax?
Avatar 2:57pm burke:

Three hours went by too fast...thanks friend!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

A glorious return, UM. Thanks for the show!
  2:58pm dan:

Great show UM.
Avatar 2:59pm spodiodi:

thanks, UM!
Avatar 2:59pm Franco Twinkie:

Time for your hot soup infusion, Michael.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm chresti:

Thanks Uncle! Zand elderberry-zinc lozenges, I recommend, sometimes I throw one in a thermos with hot tea
Avatar 3:00pm Franco Twinkie:

The Pretty Things were to ugly to be popular with the teens.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

One of my favorite Dick Van Dyke Show episodes is where Laura accidentally outs Alan Brady as a toupee wearer.
Avatar 3:01pm coelacanth∅:
