I say 80% of the time it’s the driver’s fault

I mean really the only law I’ll break is running red lights when there’s no one coming.

Ok spondoli... and how many people get killed by cars all the time. They’re not comparable at all.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm coelacanth∅:

doesn't matter what laws you break. bicycle mishaps that injure anyone besides the cyclist are infinitely rare compared to motor vehicle mishaps that injure others.
one freak accident in san francisco is practically negligible in the overall scheme of things.

i'm all for bicyclists rights, and bicycling in general... and have lent much support in that realm. i love bikes. cars are dumb. but i'se seen way too many knuckleheads pullin shennanigans on pedals and then screaming about airybody else

well yeah, of course there are asshole cyclists.

yeah, way way way too many "Cavelier" cyclists
  5:26pm spodiodi:

and even those in the bike coalition run lights and stop signs... regularly... and in groups... with chips on shoulders, etc.
  5:26pm johnzo:

Spondoofus I’m talking about running a red when it’s the middle of the night and there’s nobody around on a flat... not speeding down a sf hill on a fixed gear and blowing through without stopping. As I said I’ve been hit by a bike before I understand that it can be dangerous but still way more people are killed by cars, and there are tons of drivers out there who are not at all prepared to share the road. Unless you’re on an interstate you should be prepared to share the road with bikes period.
  5:27pm spodiodi:

i'm a law and order hippie. obey the laws you want others to obey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm coelacanth∅:

i ride a motorcycle too and i always hate to see the bikers (usually harleys) that act like they're more important than everyone else. makes me look bad.
...but car/"suv" drivers still need to be more conscious and considerate of them, regardless.
  5:28pm spodiodi:

bohnzo, i'm sure you're way smarter than the killer. to your world, bro
Avatar 5:28pm modern blaze:

  5:28pm spodiodi:

you want to take issue with my call that bicyclists need to obey more laws, so be it.
  5:29pm spodiodi:

i ride a motorcycle like king of the squids, but i still see more bikes pulling crap.

And going the wrong way on one-way streets, then complaining about the behavior of the drivers on those same streets. It's a bit like being drunk behind the wheel then calling the cops on another driver for reckless driving.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm coelacanth∅:

i've been riding a bicycle for 50-something years -since before there were bike lanes, helmet laws...i don't stop for intersections unless i have to -for safety's sake and courtesy. i ride on the left side sometimes, because it's sometimes the smart thing to do. i practically never wear a helmet on the streets (i wear one mountain biking) i hop up to the sidewalk when asshole drivers have left me no room to get by on the street, but i get back on the street after i've gotten past them.
and i do not have a chip on my shoulder! not even slightly. i've driven almost a million &1/2 miles in my life. cars, trucks, buses, motorcycles. i see it from many perspectives.i'm just efficient, and i have fun.
i've never hit a person, bike, car, animal...
  5:37pm spodiodi:

well said, mariano

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm coelacanth∅:

never been hit on my bike.(either bike. not sure if you mean bicycle or motorcycle)
very close, many times, but i've been lucky.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm coelacanth∅:

damn. sorry to hear that.
  5:46pm Beetlemuse:

heya coel, did you have a good thanksgiving?
  5:47pm spodiodi:

hit on a motorcycle just once, but been down plenty (and hit other things)... hit on a bicycle, not really anything of consequence... but i've clocked a fraction of a percent of your time
  5:49pm spodiodi:

the times i've crashed my bike were more severe than any hits taken on it
