I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Early hellos on this chilly bright Saturday! Hope everyone in the NYC area has got supplies ahead of the snow to sweep through tomorrow and Monday!

Hi Sem and Fred and James and ParUbi!
Avatar 12:06pm Mayuko:

uh oh! is it gonna snow?!?! boo!!!
Avatar 12:06pm Mayuko:

Thanks for tuning in, james, chresti, ParUbi, my radio family fred and Sem!
  12:09pm rw:

Snow! Oh, not here. Good morning!
Avatar 12:09pm Mayuko:

Good morning, rw!!
  12:10pm rw:

Mayuko!! I know you know this but you have the best listeners.
  12:10pm ParUbi:

Listening on the fly...
Avatar 12:11pm Mayuko:

@rw haha! yeah, I do.
Avatar 12:12pm Mayuko:

@ParUbi Literally flying? Where to?
Avatar 12:13pm fred:

I sure hope it doesn't snow here. A big transit strike will be enough of a pain on its own
Avatar 12:14pm Mayuko:

@fred you have to walk everywhere this weekend?
  12:15pm ParUbi:

Well, driving to our friend’s bookstore for small business Saturday
Avatar 12:17pm fred:

Not yet, But starting on Thursday, that's the plan. 9km to/from work, and I have a few shows planned that will add to that
Avatar 12:18pm Mayuko:

@ParUbi aw nice! today's playlist is relatively driving-friendly! (by PV standard)
Avatar 12:20pm northguineahills:

Sabado es tiempo por Mayuko!
  12:20pm rw:

No Fatal Errors while driving please.
Avatar 12:21pm fred:

That means I will probably not be back in time for next week's show: it's about 10km away, but I can't miss it. A show from Okinawa, featuring traditional dances and a kumi odori play called Shushin Kaneiri (or something like that)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm chresti:

That sounds like a great show @fred
Avatar 12:24pm Mayuko:

Welcome on board, ngh!!
Avatar 12:25pm Mayuko:

Yes, it's fine for holidays to fail but not for driving!!
  12:33pm rw:

I'm still not sure I'm holding this cowbell correctly.

Need to head out but hope everyone's enjoying the holiday weekend (whether you're in the US or not!)

Thanks as always for the Vertigo Mayuko! Take care all!
Avatar 12:34pm Mayuko:

@rw me neither! but as long as we are having fun we're doin' it right! Happy holiday weekend to you too!!
Avatar 12:39pm Mayuko:

@fred that does sound like a pretty interesting stuff!!! I've never seen Kumi woodui, haven't explored that part of Okinawa culture at all.

Stay inside the house in your pajamas is a good strategy for dealing with the holidays.

Haha coel!
Avatar 1:06pm Jeff Moore:

Thanks as always for sharing the music and your perspectives. And it is indeed excellent that the streets aren't filled with black plague bearing corpses and corpses to be. And I haven't even been bitten by a cat recently, so I'm doubly fortunate!
Avatar 1:07pm Mayuko:

Glad to have you all with us, Rickwaukee, Franco, and Ken!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm WR:

I was listening to something else when I realized the time and that I could be listening to play vertigo.
Avatar 1:07pm northguineahills:

I step out to help clean for a gathering, and I miss Otomo!

I thought I was the only one who played 'dj tool' recs as if they were LPs.!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm Webhamster Henry:

Hi Mayuko! I have been bitten by a cat recently, but it was not very deep. He's otherwise a nice guy, but kind of bitey/scratchy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm redkayak:

The holidays can be difficult. Bittersweet feelings can visit almost everyone.... I guess this is the human condition?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm coelacanth∅))):

ass ponys "live until i die":
It's morning and I'm awake
My soul's been chosen not to take
I feel like I've been asleep for years
Rolling out of bed

And then I see the colors
Pressing up on my eyes
And I want to live until I die

It's midday, it's afternoon
Seems like it's gotten here too soon
I'm still in my underwear
Listening to "The Weight"

It's evening and I'm alive
No bruises or abrasions outside
No bones protruding through my skin
What a wonderful way for the day to end
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm chresti:

Squirrels and bats, good thing that you were not bitten by them..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm coelacanth∅))):

-or vipers
Avatar 1:16pm Mayuko:

Aw, thanks for listening Jeff! I know some people still do indeed suffer from plague-like situation - but it's still a little more survivable in the 21st century than 17th, or I want to think so.
Avatar 1:17pm Mayuko:

Glad to have you join us, WR!!!!
  1:17pm Rickwaukee:

Compound fractures do make sleeping difficult
Avatar 1:17pm northguineahills:

I need to be bitten by a soft bed......
  1:18pm Rickwaukee:

@northguineahills I'm going to steal that - poetic
Avatar 1:21pm Mayuko:

Sorry, Henry! Rego's bite was not serious, more like a warning bite. Not very thankful attitude on the thanksgiving day!
Avatar 1:22pm Mayuko:

@coel maybe I should do a "live until i die" themed comp for my next marathon premium, haha! Ends with the Monty Python song.
Avatar 1:23pm Mayuko:

But the comp title needs to sound more positive. Maybe just go with "always look on the bright side of life".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm coelacanth∅))):

Mayuko i used to tell people that it didn't matter to me how long i lived as long as i felt good and was happy while i was here. i even named my business "Alive for Life"; and that's what i take that song by the ass ponys to mean.
Avatar 1:28pm Mayuko:

@redkayak yeah, I think it is easy to feel left out during holidays. Cos you can't just get on the same wavelength of this festivities just because the calendar tells you to do so!
Avatar 1:31pm Mayuko:

@coel Yes, I think I actually know exactly that feeling sung in that song, even though I never heard it. I will listen on Youtube after my show!
Avatar 1:32pm fred:

I wasn't bit by a cat, but got hit in the eye by a laser beam during a show yesterday. Partially blinded for a few minutes, which was scary, but it passed. Visually compelling show, by the way, with neon-like threads on the dancers, in darkness most of the time. The dance was good but not great, but I think the gear hindered them some. A Japanese company called El Squad (there was even some tsugaru jamisen in the soundtrack)
Avatar 1:33pm Sem:

Enjoying a wintry day, reading and listening to your show. Thank you for today's playlist, Mayuko!
Avatar 1:34pm fred:

@Sem: What are you reading? And did you like The Nickel Boys?
  1:35pm JakeGould:

Hey Mayuko! Maybe a good title would be “Making the Best of this Junk.” I mean that is my philosophy!
Avatar 1:36pm Mayuko:

@fred that's really dangerous!! glad it didn't get any more serious!!!!!
  1:37pm JakeGould:

Also — not to bring anyone down — but today is the date of my dad’s death. The holidays hurt without him and even more so in the middle of Thanksgiving.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm coelacanth∅))):

Mayuko (not to belabor the subject!) it's the last verse that what you said reminded me of.
it represents the band's subtle sense of humour but also says hey things could be much worse!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm coelacanth∅))):

stay strong Jake
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm WR:

Thank you for sharing with us @JakeGould. Having a fateful anniversary be associated with a holiday for families must bring extra dissonances to them both.
  1:41pm JakeGould:

Thanks coelacanth! The utterly soul crushing depression was on Thursday. Better now!
  1:45pm JakeGould:

And I say this with no irony: Baby Yoda from “The Mandalorian” has really made me feel good. Heck, that whole show made me feel good because it doesn’t sugar coat the way peasants were treated during the wars that encompass “Star Wars.” Finally a very relatable and real story in “Star Wars” thanks to a guy constantly in a helmet and a very cute (and smart) puppet.
Avatar 1:47pm Mayuko:

@Jake we'd been talking about black plague in the 17th century, the party'd been ruined and people already brought down so whatever you have in your mind is perfectly fine to comment. Thanks for telling us how you're doing. Glad to hear you are feeling a little better now.
1:47pm Yorkshire Tea: How Tea Didn't Used To Be:

a nice song
  1:47pm Rickwaukee:

Sure plays a mean Swarmandal!
1:50pm Yorkshire Tea: How Tea Didn't Used To Be:

lot of grown men like to talk about baby yoda they do
Avatar 1:50pm northguineahills:

I have Peklar dubby tschno rekkid, and and experimental one like this. he's rather versatile.
Avatar 1:52pm Mayuko:

@Sem @1:33 Thank YOU!!! Glad sounds like you're having a lovely weekend!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm coelacanth∅))):

Mayuko i like when a party gets real! up, down, up again...
  1:53pm JakeGould:

Well, if you want to know about war and trauma, my dad really liked “The Empire Strikes Back” because it was dark and bleak for a supposed kids film. I was the one who dragged him to see it, but he liked the realness of it. Also, the latest episode of “The Mandalorian” is basically a retelling of “Seven Samurai” in the world of “Star Wars.” And it includes the brutality of villagers being attacked and killed. Pretty sure my mom and dad would be able to relate to that. Also Baby Yoda.
  1:56pm JakeGould:

Look up “Barren Island” in Brooklyn for som sad perspective on poverty in Brooklyn in about 100 years ago. Not the Black Plague, but wow! Such squalor. Read it up here! http://hatchingcatnyc.com/2015/04/10/1909-the-hogs-that-were-hunted-by-the-health-squad-on-brooklyns-barren-island/
1:57pm Yorkshire Tea: How Tea Didn't Used To Be:

not a big fan of disney am i; lot of trash do they make
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Webhamster Henry:
