Poor Thurston's friend's crazy sister.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07pm steveo:

The best theme song in the universe. Those double snare hits get me every time. And the opera bit coming out of Bethany's show, too perfect. There, I said it.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44pm ultradamno:

Patti! Penetration does a great cover of this too.
Avatar 9:44pm slugluv1313:

yes, very pretty!
oh so cool segue, into Patti's "Free Money" <3
Avatar 9:49pm JakeGould:

Hey Nate! Congrats on the interview.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm Aitch:

I've never seen Patti Smith playing Sydney, but $US100+ tickets. Seems a lot, but will be the only chance. Looking forwards to TMIII. Iggy Pop Sonic Youth headlined a summer festival here 1993. They all ended up the night doing I wanna be your dog, Iggy waving his dick at the audience, quite something. I seen SY a few times, always amazing, is a little hard on the ears.

Hi Nate
Avatar 9:52pm DonJuanTijuana:

Best song Sonic Youth ever did...period
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53pm ultradamno:

Hard to beat a Crime song, though I am partial to I'm Insane, Brother James and Making The Nature Scene.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57pm ultradamno:

Cincinnati band Manwich had a song called Thurston, Kim & Me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59pm ultradamno:

...or Kim, Thurston & Me, rather william-gilmore-weber.bandvista.com...
Avatar 10:00pm slugluv1313:

@ DonJuanTijuana -- right??? although gotta love a buncha others too -- Death Valley 69 still rips me open, even after 30+ years
@ Aitch -- do go see Patti if you have the chance! been following her since the 70s -- she truly never ever disappoints
loved seeing Sonic Youth way back in the early days too -- recalling a fantastic gig at Folk City (was on West Third Street, i think) -- they had a series called "Music For Dozens," three bands for three bucks (or something equally insane sounding nowadays!) -- Sonic Youth were so f*cking powerful and LOUD
Avatar 10:02pm khd:

is this live

James McCartney as in Paul's son.
  10:21pm Leather Tuscadero:

Nothing says pompous like loving Milwaukee.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm WR:

Hi howdy hello all.
  10:35pm yippie:

was there something about making a record with Yoko Ono that caused sonic youth to break up?
  10:36pm App ParUbi:

Loved that bit about the Ramones that took a tour through Indian Ragas and La Monte Young

Seems you got good rapport going with Thurston and got him talking. But this is first time hearing interview with him, maybe he just spills it anywhere anytime. Tune selections look good for context will go back for it all from the archive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm Nate K.:

@App, one of my fave moments.
@Yippie, I can assure you I did not ask.
  10:42pm sufferwords:

ha- i’m listening thinking i take it back dude’s not such a blow hard - intense jam.... oh it’s Branca no wonder it was actually listenable
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm ultradamno:

In fairness to Lydia, there is evidence supporting the Patti was a barefoot hippie chick claim i.pinimg.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm Nate K.:

@Ultra, Hahaha. I would imagine Patti may even take it as a positive comment. I get his point, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm ultradamno:

Hey, the first time I ever heard of Sonic Youth was a positive review of the first ep by Tesco Vee in Touch & Go.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm ultradamno:

Would John Belushi been interested in dancing to DNA (as he reportedly was for Fear...until he saw the punks in action)?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm Nate K.:

The "f" stand for "fucks."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm Nate K.:

That SNL performance has surprisingly clear audio of Brannon yelling "Negative Approach is gonna fuck you up."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm ultradamno:

I've got that cassette. I don't know that the Doc Dart/police phone conversation recordings on that have been released since. They are priceless!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm ultradamno:

Yeah, I remember a friend of mine had an LA zine with Gira contributions in it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm Mister Dobalina:

Random drop in to this class but I've definitely been school'd....Thanks!
  11:12pm modern blaze:

super clean version of jealous again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm Aitch:

I got turned onto the west coast punks via a compilation LP Let Them Eat Jellybeans at high school 1981 or so. A lot of big names on that one and some funny songs
  11:15pm Ignore Function:

Cool interview.
  11:16pm modern blaze:

Let Them Eat Wood!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm ultradamno:

Yeah, that one was huge. If I nickel for every person who said to me, yeah that Feederz song rocks, but I don't know maaaaaan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm ultradamno:

I'm trying to remember who it was I read left the band over this song (feeling it was stupid to sing about single cell organisms) Mike Ness maybe?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm Nate K.:

@Ignore, thanks!
  11:20pm rw:

Don't turn your back you stupid science world.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm ultradamno:

It's a matter of intelligence.
  11:21pm steveL:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm curtis_chaos_la_la:

I always had a suspicion, but after 13 months here it's confirmed* LA punk is alive. It lives in the air, the ground, the water, the blood, the energy. I've witnessed it firsthand.
(* confirmed thru living in a warehouse, hosting shows from trap, hiphop, experimental art, rock and punk.)
  11:27pm modern blaze:

What's about the border? i mean deep south of LA and Cali. camps?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm ultradamno:

Reminds me of one of the great lost HC feuds Big Boy & MDC vs. Bad Brains
  11:31pm modern blaze:

I'm enjoying it for sure
  11:32pm rw:

I want to hear the Void side!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm curtis_chaos_la_la:

@modern blaze
you talking to me? idk about that but here in the city Latino punk is hard af. Long Beach has a great variety of punk and hiphop, and happily and creatively collab..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39pm Nate K.:

@rw, me too. Next time.
  11:45pm modern blaze:

Yeah! Thanks for your reply!)
  11:46pm rw:

NK, Cool. I don't know it. Faith side sounded perfectly respectable to me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52pm Aitch:

Great show Nate DK
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm curtis_chaos_la_la:

ur welcome mod blaze! Tons of ripping all ages shows too. Gives my old af heart some bits of hope! A good number of the punk and trap stuff are teenagers or early 20's. And a fair number of the older crews are holding tite, too. Still learning this city, but feel v fortunate to have landed in this warehouse, able to provide a safe platform for them all.

Good nite y'all, thanks for another great show and interview, NK!
  11:54pm App ParUbi:

Gotta dig into that “potion for bad dreams” void bootleg
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm ultradamno:

Cool hang as always, Nate.
  11:56pm rw:

Thank you Nate K! Cool to hear the interview. Nice punk set too!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm Nate K.:

Thanks, folks. Have a great Thanksgiving, if you're celebrating.
Avatar 11:59pm coelacanth∅))):
